This chill spot serves up delicious soul food classics and inventive vegan options, all made with fresh ingredients and a whole lot of love.
"Soul Food Vegan is an unassuming neighborhood spot across the street from Emancipation Park. Combining meatless comfort food with a dash of Creole flavor, this vegan restaurant serves Cajun pasta, burgers, jambalaya, and fresh-pressed moringa juice. Consistency can sometimes be an issue, and some of the flavor is substituted for random punches of cayenne pepper. But on the right days, you are ready to pledge your allegiance to oyster mushrooms. We'll take them deep-fried and pressed between toasted bread in their po’boy or straight up on a tray next to collard greens and deceptively cheesy macaroni. You don’t go to Soul Food Vegan for the scene but rather for a quick bite to finish off the day. photo credit: Vivian Leba photo credit: Vivian Leba video credit: Vivian Leba" - Gianni Greene
"An unassuming joint across the street from Emancipation Park, Soul Food Vegan is a neighborhood spot making vegan southern comfort food with a dash of Creole flavor. The menu has Cajun pasta, burgers, jambalaya, and fresh-pressed moringa juice, but the star of the show is anything that involves oyster mushrooms. You should try their po’boy with deep-fried oyster mushrooms that crackle when you bite into them, coated in spicy mayo and topped with crisp red onions. You don’t go to Soul Food Vegan for the ambiance, but rather for a quick bite of vegan comfort food to finish off the day." - gianni greene, chelsea thomas
"Soul Food Vegan is a Third Ward spot serving vegan Southern comfort food with Creole flavor. The menu is stacked—Cajun pasta, burgers, jambalaya, and fresh-pressed moringa juice—but you want to focus on anything that involves oyster mushrooms. Our favorite rendition of the mushrooms is in the po’boy, where they get deep-fried and dressed with spicy mayo and red onions. Soul Food Vegan isn’t exactly known for its ambiance (the dining room consists of one long black table and a counter) so come by when you need a quick lunch or something for a picnic at Emancipation Park." - gianni greene, chelsea thomas

Try their po’boy with deep-fried oyster mushrooms that crunch when you bite into them, coated in spicy mayo and topped with red onions that amplify the sandwich’s crunch. " - gianni greene
"At this established vegan restaurant, find hearty and comforting plant-based and meatless Southern comforts, like okra gumbo with vegan roux, mushroom po’ boys, a Cajun pasta melt with tomato sauce and cashew cheese over veggie rotini noodles, and a vegan burger with Cajun spices. The red beans and rice and vegan spaghetti are comforting options, too." - Kayla Stewart
