The 10 Best Breweries In Nashville 2024

"You can’t talk about Southern Grist without first giving Lauter, the restaurant inside the East Nashville taproom, its flowers. The food is delicious and worth a trip on its own for a BLT as big as your face with the option to add burrata (do it), and a burger that rivals your pint glass in height (and it tastes pretty good, too). When it comes to beer, get whatever version of Mixed Greens IPA is on rotation—we lost count after version 64 or “LX” since they use Roman numerals. They have a wealth of sour beers, too, including a fruited gose that is undeniably the best in town." - adam sloan

Where to Eat in The Nations | Eater Nashville

"Three friends’ homebrewing hobby turned into a bustling brewery with two taprooms in the Nashville area. The Nations outpost of Southern Grist Brewing not only serves up the IPAs, sours, and ales locals have grown to love but also boasts an onsite food concept, L by Lauter. The limited menu of bites like green chili queso, hushpuppies with crab butter, and a charcuterie board pair perfectly with a cold pint." - Kellie Walton

The Best Breweries and Taprooms in Nashville | Eater Nashville

"Smack in the heart of East Nashville, Southern Grist is known for its ambitiously creative beer selection — one glance at its menu and you’ll realize that it doesn’t put any traditional beer constraints on its creations, adding personality through ingredients to every style of beer it produces. From exotic fruits to pickles and marshmallows, Southern Grist fearlessly brews with anything you can think of. If you’re on the move, Southern Grist sells to-go beers in cans and crowlers, but it also has a super comfy, family-friendly lounge and a pet-friendly porch if you’d rather sit and sip through its beer list. Southern Grist opened its second location in the Nations with more seating, a larger bar and patio, plus a fast-casual version of the original’s signature restaurant, Lauter." - Kellie Walton

7 Best Nashville Breweries to Visit for Craft Beer in 2021 - AFAR

"A local favorite since about 2016, this brewery specializes in hearty barrel-aged stouts, New England–style IPAs, and fruited sours, with a constantly rotating lineup of very small-batch beers (often under five gallons) rather than a single flagship. The original taproom in East Nashville offers a warm, cozy vibe with plush couches and bar-stool seating, and the operation recently expanded to a much larger production facility with a second taproom located directly in front of it." - Mae Hamilton

Stopped by Southern Grist Brewery and had a great time. I tried the Concrete Flowers (an IPA) and the Martinez (a cocktail)—both were really good! I’m not usually big on IPAs, but I still enjoyed the flavors. And the Martinez was smooth and well-balanced—definitely a nice surprise at a brewery. One thing I really appreciated was how easy it was to order—you can sit down, order, and pay right from your table. Super convenient and makes for a laid-back, no-pressure experience. The place has a cool industrial vibe, though I couldn’t help but notice the spray-painted garage door springs—which, for the record, isn’t a great idea since it can actually be a safety risk. All in all, it’s a relaxed spot with good drinks and a great system for chilling out without waiting in lines.

This place is well Organized. Usually you are the one who has to go to front desk and request what you want , they have all the menus in front desk ( which is inside the restaurant in the center) so, they have places for you to stay and enjoy rather you want outside or inside. People is nice and polite and if you have any question they will help you without a problem. Restrooms were clean which for me is something very important and all place is neat 👌 and btw beers were delicious 😋

Visited here while in Nashville with family. Popped later on a Sunday evening and taproom had a cool chill vibe. Enjoyed multiple flights, their IPAs are world class! Beertenders were amazing. Was able to take some cans to go, though they only had a couple IPAs canned that day. Kid friendly and easy parking. Best craft beer in Nashville for my tastes by far.

Google
Wyatt was our bartender and he was great! All of the bartenders checked in on us. We ordered the Americana and got a side of their house made pickles and grilled onions. The burger was freshly made and came quickly. It literally melted in my mouth! We ordered Apricot Keep About Your Wits and, Black Currant Boysenberry Hill, Black Currant Mango Hill, and the Key Lime Pie Sour Ale. They have a beer for everyone. I love that they offer 5oz drafts. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a cool environment and a variety of beer options!

Google
Great find!!! Was in town for an event, and got to the venue way too early. Decided to stop for an early dinner. So glad we stopped. Some really great brews. Love that you can mix and match your flights. Burger was phenomenal. Mostly shared plate menu. The cannoli dessert, deconstructed, is amazing.

Google
I love it here! Haven't had a beer I didn't like thanks to the staff always helping me pick something that fits my taste that day. Also, their Caesar salad fries are amazing and their BLT Is fantastic. Great place to meet up with friends or get an afternoon of work done on my laptop.

Google
Been going to Southern Grist for years, and every time we are in town, we have to come by. Loved so many of their sours over the years. Big coconut fan here so it’s one of my favorite breweries. This was our first time at the newer location and I have to say I liked the old one better. Also a tad disappointed at the lack of variety of sours this time. We walked in about 45 minutes before closing time and it was already last call, so we quickly ordered a few 5 oz to taste what they had available in cans. We were just looking for some four packs to bring home. It’s wasn’t busy so we drank our beers as the staff started cleaning and got out as soon as possible so we weren’t in their way. They did have one sour in the case that wasn’t on tap. Happy to stock up a little on some good beer. Hoping to see more coconut on our way back through Nashville.

Amazing service, phenomenal sours and IPAs, very comfortable atmosphere. They also have plenty of to go can options. One of my favorites breweries we visited in Nashville.

Yelp
My husband and I love a good brewery, especially those that are dog friendly. Came here while on the waitlist to be seated for a nearby restaurant. We opted for a few sample pours (at 5oz you can try more than one while still drinking responsibly) and small bites. We ordered 6 different beers and the fries with truffle and Parmesan. The batter on the fries is extra crispy and served super warm. When paired with the dill aioli and a cold beer it's just... mmm chefs kiss! We enjoyed all of the beers, but our favorites were peach blueberry cobbler, and coconut stacks on stacks. They sell 16 oz cans in 4 packs or singles to mix and match. We ended up bringing a few for home, but they didn't last long! Will be back on another day off.

Yelp
I stopped by Southern Grist Brewing for a Sunday lunch, and it did not disappoint! While I don't drink alcohol, I had the HOP water, which was refreshing and unique. My husband and his friend all had beers and said they were delicious while they watched sports. I went with a gluten-free option and had the burger without the bun--it was fantastic, juicy, and packed with flavor. The Caesar salad was another highlight; it's gluten-free and comes with Parmesan croutons that are absolutely to die for. Their merch selection is amazing--I ended up buying all the stickers, two shirts, and a hat. If I'm ever back in town, I'll definitely be returning. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Stopped here on a whim when we arrived to Nashville. There is lots of seating inside and outside as well as bar seats. You walk up and order any drinks/food you may want and then find a table. The bar tender was nice and let us try a few beers. I ordered a sour beer, blueberry peach cobbler, it was great! And I also ordered the Cesar salad fries- the ultimate girl dinner. They had a tad too much dressing but I would 100% order them again and will be trying to make them at home as well. Swing by, grab a beer, and some food.

Yelp
1. Andrew is the MAN. We love him. He is very attentive, fast, and funny. All ya could ask for. 2. The caesar salad fries were good but tasted nothing like a caesar salad. It tasted like a Taco Bell potato taco. 3. We probably won't eat here again but it's the best place to drink and play games. CAVEAT BEING if they brought back the chicken sandwich. 4. The vibe is spectacular especially a little later in the night. When the brew bus tourists are there it's too rowdy for my liking, but it's the best once it mellows out later on. :) 10/10 would recommend... or I guess 5/5.

Yelp
Southern Grist Brewing in East Nashville is a gem tucked just off Ellington Parkway on Douglas Avenue. If East Nashville isn't your thing, you can find their other location in The Nations. Southern Grist is your quintessential "small batch" brewery that offers up an ever-evolving lineup of beers, which is fantastic if you love variety. While they don't have a flagship brew, they do maintain a few staples that are consistently on tap. Just be prepared that your favorite brew might be a seasonal, here today and gone tomorrow *sad face* The brewery's kitchen, now rebranded as By Lauter, is another highlight. Though I haven't explored the full menu, the burger is easily one of my favorites in the city! Grab a crisp beer and pair it with this burger - you won't be disappointed! Parking can be a tad tricky at times. They have limited spots on the side and a lot behind the building, but during peak times you may have to find a spot in a nearby neighborhood. The space itself is cozy but accommodating. With a dining room area, a square bar with stools, and scattered tables, there's plenty of seating. Plus, there are two outdoor spaces that blend seamlessly with the indoor area, making for a pleasant atmosphere year-round. Service is always solid, the food is delicious, and the beer is always interesting and well-crafted. Southern Grist has definitely earned its spot as one of our favorite spots in East Nashville!

Yelp
My sister recommended this brewery whilst I was in Nashville. Wide selection of beers on tap and to go. Food was pretty good as well, I missed brunch that day but I've heard good things so I'll definitely be back to try brunch. The staff was fun & friendly which made for an overall good experience!

Yelp
Perfect spot for a Friday night happy hour. Brought my dog and sat on the very spacious patio. As this was my first time here, the cashier helped answering my questions on which beer to choose from. She knew all the "beer terminology" and her advise helped me pick a lager I really enjoyed!

Yelp
SGB is well on its way to becoming my favorite spot in East Nashville to grab a brew. I love everything from the modern vibes to the taplist ... not to mention the delicious and innovative menu at Lauter. I recently visited Southern Grist with a group of friends on a Tuesday night, and I appreciate that there was a wide variety of brews available, with something for everyone to enjoy. I'm in my "Sour Era," and Southern Grist has quite a few fun ones on tap right now. My favorite is the 'Mosa, which is not too sour, but still packs a bunch of citrusy flavor. If you're unsure whether you want to commit to a full pint of something, I love that SGB offers 5 oz. taster pours for $3-4. I tried both the Passion Fruit Guava Hill and the Perpetual Composition, both of which were tasty and very fruit forward, but strong if you're not typically a sour person. My husband ordered the Masa Crisp, which may be our new favorite lager. It's light and sippable, while still full of a corn-like flavor. We also ordered a taster of the White Chocolate Pistachio Stacks on Stacks, which was a fun dark beer to end the evening on. Although the patio can get busy on weekends, SGB is the perfect spot for locals to stop during the week for a few brews and a tasty bite. I have no doubt that we'll be back again soon!

Yelp
Okay, so I last reviewed Southern Grist in 2017. And I'm sure I went a few more times after that since I didn't leave Nashville until 2021. But a few weekends ago, I wanted to grab a few beers with some family after a wedding. We said, "Let's go to Southern Grist; it's nearby!" And it's a good thing that I left Nashville so long ago that I forgot how to get there and had to put into Google Maps, because THEY MOVED! It's larger and cooler and they have great food now. So - yes - they still have great beers, including the ones I referred to as "BOMB sours" in 2017. But now they have the same great beers but are ever better. That's all. Just had to update my review to say that.

Yelp
Holy crap. I want to eat this burger every day for the rest of my life. Discovering Lauter inside Southern Grist Brewing in East Nashville was like stumbling upon a hidden culinary gem right in my own backyard. The welcoming vibe at Southern Grist provided the perfect ambiance for an unforgettable dining and beer tasting experience. Let's dive into the details of what made the meal so special. The burger from Lauter was an exquisite creation featuring a dry-aged patty, melted Monterey Jack cheese, tangy half & half pickles, a rich burger sauce, crisp onion, and a hint of smoked Worcestershire. This combination of flavors and textures made each bite memorable, setting a new standard for what I consider to be an exceptional burger. But the culinary delights didn't stop there. The roasted sweet potatoes topped with sweet curry sauce, mimolette cheese, pickled golden raisins, and candied pecans were a revelation. Each element added a layer of complexity and flavor that was simply amazing. It was a side dish that could easily stand as a highlight on its own. Pairing this meal with the variety of beers from Southern Grist was the icing on the cake. Each beer I sampled was a showcase of craftsmanship, making it clear why Southern Grist is celebrated for their brews. Their beers are some of the best I've ever had, with each sip confirming my appreciation for their quality. The staff's friendliness and expertise across both Lauter and Southern Grist added to the experience, making me feel right at home with their recommendations and knowledge. In summary, my visit to Lauter at Southern Grist Brewing was a remarkable journey through culinary excellence paired with unmatched craft beer. For locals and visitors alike, this is a must-visit spot in East Nashville. The exceptional burger and side dishes, combined with top-notch beers, have made me a fan for life. I'm already planning my next visit.

Yelp
Nice spot. The one brewery I chose over all others in Nashville area. They had off street parking which was nice. The have a section that has food, what I saw people getting looked good. I however went for the beer. I ordered two hazy IPA's and was pleased. Then I saw the BA stout and loved it. I would highly recommend this place.

Yelp
While it does seem normal at many of the Nashville breweries, I appreciate the taster (5oz) glasses. It let me try all the variety of drinks. I tried six different beers, and variety of styles and all good. Typically I just go for hoppy and dark, but since I was trying variety I did try some of the different sours. The Perpetual composition and Chcolate covered chery melted sno-cone were both delicious and probably my favorite while I was here. IPAs were solid, stouts slightly better and really enjoyable. The food, the wings there were 3. Quite large, seasoned and fried it has good flavor. I'm not sure I like the 3 piece wing though. Kale salad, a nice dressing flavor but I think I need the kale chopped just a bit more. And lastly, the sweet and salty snack mix is plentiful and enjoyable.

Yelp
Great brewery. If you enjoy craft beer, then this is a must stop place in Nashville. Lots of interesting selections, especially if you're into off-the-beaten-path stuff, but a wide range of offerings that is sure to suit everyone. The bartender was very attentive and helpful. Pricing was excellent as well. Highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Yelp
Southern Grist makes some of the best beer anywhere, IMO. The Canela Oscuro stout (when you can find it), is the best Mexican chocolate stout I've had. Please make more! Insert Juicy Pun is the best NE IPA in its class. There's as much good going on here as any other brewery has, and then some. That said, we all make mistakes...Posh Palapa. Look it up. Overall, I love what these guys are doing. Please keep up the great work and come to Atlanta!

Yelp
Wow! Cant believe how amazing this bar food was! Sooo fresh and delish and creative! Plus fun place and spacious!

Yelp
This was our third time time here. The first time ordering food, and the second time sitting at the bar. Beer - 5/5. They offer many more sours than most around here, which is a win for the hubs. Highly recommend the Mosa, Broconut, Chop It Up and the collab with Chopper. Food - 3/5. And only bc the sourdough focaccia brought up the curve. That is an easy 6/5. The burger and fried chicken sandwich were both subpar. Both came drowning in their respective sauces. Service - 1/5. It's terrible. Sure, when you actually can get someone to pay attention to you, they're friendly enough. But all three times we've been here we've experienced no one seeming interested in actually acknowledging us or taking our order, and not one of those times has the place been more than 50% full. Ambiance - 4/5. It's cool, and the beer is good. So we'll def come back for that and some focaccia.

Yelp
Very cute and chic bar top with adjoining restaurant Lauter for food as well! Parking is all around the building and easy to get to. Service was attentive and had several bartenders check on me. Variety of different brews I had a nice summer blonde that was nice and refreshing. There is porch seating as well and inside bar top and tables and booths. There is also a small booth for purchasing items ( shirts, wall mounts, hats). Nice smaller place for a chill night out for a brew or two. For food from lauter: I tried the chicken sandwich and some potatoes. The chicken sandwich was delicious!! Very moist and would have me coming back. The potatoes were like air fried and crispy! Lots of seasonings if you are in for a mouthful, comes with a side dipping sauce that pairs well with the spice! Will come back with friends for a night out!

Yelp
Our FAVORITE in Nashville! We visited the one located on Douglas street, East Nashville. These guys are KILLING it. They have an absolutely amazing beer menu and they even have "milk pours". Milk Pours are pretty cool as they tell you that you typically have to shoot them in one drink. The Milk pour is a method of pouring that results in you drinking less beer but feeling far less heavy afterwards. The creaminess of the beer went down so smoothly! They also have regular pour of course. This location also has Lauter which is a fantastic place at the back where you can order the best of food. I still dream about that mushroom burger and their spicy chicken sandwich.
google avatar

Yelp
We came to Nashville for Easter weekend and southern grist popped up on one of this list I saw. It's really cool because it's much more like a restaurant than a brewery. They have a great beer selection my husband and I both got flights, the fried potatoes - Nashville hot style and the wings. Both came with their amazing fry sauce. Both of these were other worldly--I have never experienced anything like either of them. They have a ton of other really cool looking food. Service was awesome our server was amazing and had great suggestions on about the menu and beer knowledge. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
This is a tough one because I like everything about this Southern Grist location except for the prices. I'm not new to breweries and the prices of their food/beer. In fact, according to my wife, I spend too much time at breweries. I give the food, beer, and location/ambiance 5-stars. The prices get 1-star. We just ate/drank here last night and were shocked by the high prices. BEER We had four beers at $10 each. That is just too much. Let me explain why... most comparable breweries charge $8 (at the high end). Additionally, if you buy a 4-pack to-go, it costs $5ea ($20 for the 4-pack). Why double the price to pour the same beer into a glass? There certainly aren't any aluminum costs to put it into a glass. Forgettabout the tipping as well. You get the point. FOOD I ordered a smoked jaegerwurst which came with a TINY bit of shishito peppers that were pickled (not the grilled kind, more of the jarred kind), and three tiny bread rolls. It also came with a spot of mustard. Basically a bratwurst for $18. Ouch! MERCH Me and my buddies buy each other brewery shirts from all over the world. For my family that live abroad, I bought a couple of shirts. Another ouch! The t-shirt was $25 and the long sleeve t-shirt was $30. Damn! Aren't I advertising for you, Southern Grist, when I take these shirts out into the wild? All that to say, I will likely go to other breweries in the area going forward. The prices are just too high here. TLDR; $10 for beers, $18 for a jaegerwurst, $25 for a t-shirt. Just too expensive for my taste.

Yelp
Such a friendly neighborhood brewery. Fun IPAs, the smoothie sours are always worth a try and great stouts.

Yelp
Cute spot. Ended up here after trying two places across the street that weren't officially open yet, but this had been on my list. I actually didn't have any beers, but I'll be back to try some. I had the breakfast sandwich and our table split the potatoes. I felt the food was very overpriced for brunch. Yes it's good and apparently there's an executive chef, but $16 for a breakfast sandwich seems outrageous when others charge under $10 and it wasn't the best I've had. My biggest concern was I'm pretty sure it was slathered in mayo and that wasn't on the menu, or else I would have asked for none or picked something else. That made me take off half the croissant/biscuit. Potatoes were seasoned well, we all enjoyed them. The chicken and waffle looked good. I'd avoid getting brunch here again but maybe the bar food is more on par pricing wise. I'll try the beers again and come back to enjoy the taproom.
google avatar

Andrew H.

Yelp
On my unofficial ranking scale of the culture of their beer with a 1 being most traditional and a 10 being toasted coconut cherry cream pale stout: I would give this place an 8! They have some pretty wild creations here, while also having some Dad friendly lawnmower lagers, much appreciated! This review isn't going to be very detailed because this was my last stop at the end of a day of, uh, "brewery tourin'". Unlike some other breweries in Nashville: tasting, sampling, and flights are not only allowed here, they are encouraged! I got a flight of various lagers, after sampling a few different beers that looked interesting. All were good! I would say the beers on tap here are very diverse: hoppy beers, lagers, sour beers, dark beers...they definitely have a beer for every taste!
google avatar

Michael K.

Yelp
This spot has the ultimate neighborly brewery vibe. I like that's it on the outskirts of East, so parking is not an issue like 99% of Nashville is becoming. It's a laid back setup with the bar and hightops on one side and a seating for dine in on the other end. Beer menu is top notch. Their selection offers a wide variety from IPA's, sours, lagers, or stouts. There's something for everyone's taste. The food is elevated for bar food. I'm used to getting to greasy burger and soggy fries as the food is always secondary at the bar. Southern Grist matches their beer quality with their food. I got the potato wedges with Nashville hot, the burger, and hot chicken sandwich. All three turned out great. My favorite was the potato wedges. With the Nashville hot spice and the dipping sauce, I can't stop eating. Check this spot for a night out

Yelp
Been waiting to come here! Amazing food and love the beer, of course! Well worth the trip!

Yelp
We've been to Southern Grist a few times to pick up cans to have at home and always felt like it smelled great every time we've been inside so we decided to sit at the bar and try a few items from the food menu along with a few of their beers. We got a few 5 oz pours - we enjoyed everything we tried but the shining stars for us were the broconut and pineapple upside down cake. The later is a milkshake IPA and definitely more on the sweet side so I'm not sure we'd have a ton of this beer at one time but the flavor was great. For food we got: Bao buns, burnt sugar roast pork, tamarind chili sauce, fermented cabbage and carrot, lime aioli -Sourdough focaccia, garlic, sourdough butter, peach jam -Peach salad, sourdough croutons, smoked mozzarella, hibiscus leaves, lemon basil All were really delicious! Service was quick and friendly. Recommended!

Yelp
I never thought I was a lacto-sour beer bitch. And then I came here. I tried the açaí bowl here and the pineapple dole whip beer. My life has changed. I would destroy copious amounts of these brews. I was hungry, so I ordered the breakfast burger and holy. Smokes. It had a beautiful jiggly egg on top of a cheese pool with crispy meat and bacon and begged to be split with a knife. Get this...and about 1000 napkins. So beautiful. So rich. Just do it.
google avatar

Meredith S.

Yelp
The food here was really good. We ordered 6 dishes to share between 3 of us. All but one of them was great. I tried 3 different beers and didn't find my favorite but they had enough variety that with some more samples I'm sure I would find the ones I liked. The place itself was very nice looking and clean. Great service. I can't wait to come back.

Yelp
This is for the East Nashville taproom location. Nice brewery with both in-door and outside seating. We did a tasting flight. The stand out was the TEAL (5.8% ABV): a approachable New England IPA brewed with barley, wheat, flaked oats, and hopped with Citra, Mosaic, and Rakau. Plenty of juice flavor, but balanced. Sours are not our thing, but they have many of them. We were also impressed by the Canela Oscuro (6.7% ABV): a stout was made with real cinnamon, vanilla beans, cacao nibs, and dried chili peppers. The chili wasn't hot, but the combination of flavors was pretty amazing. Service was great. Tho I'm not sure why we were both carded. They have an impressive looking food menu too, which unfortunately we didn't have time to try, but next time we're in town we will for sure check that out.
google avatar

Sandy S.

Yelp
We arrived shortly after opening on a Friday afternoon. Not many people at all. The brewer was the person at the bar and gave great recommendations for a flight! The table split a charcuterie board, thousand layer potatoes, quest, and hush puppies. ALL the food was spectacular, but I think our favs were the charcuterie board and hush puppies. All around great place. I wish I lived in Nashville!

Yelp
Hubby and I were on our way to dinner when we got stuck waiting on the train. He looked left and saw Southern Grist Brewing. Next thing you know we were ordering a beer. I tried the marshmallow peanut butter blueberry jelly hill - amazing. All the flavors really came through nicely. Marshmallowy PB & J flavor, fruity without too much sweetness. Hubby ordered the mango upside down cake IPA. He enjoyed this one a lot. Fruity yet strong and hoppy. I love me a good brewery and this one was an unexpected surprise. Highly recommend!

Come for the sour beer and stay for the food. I always enjoy coming here and seeing what crazy sour concoctions they have come up with for the menu. The food here is also excellent. The portions are large are the flavor profiles are much more elevated than standard brewery fare. The interior setup is a little odd to me as the space is kinda divided between brewery and restaurant and seems unsure of which it wants to be.

Yelp
Great spot for a solid beer list & elevated bar food. The burger is one of the best around. I try to work my way through all the stouts, porters and brown ales and they're all sooo good. Got the Money Moves tonight which was a milk stout with real maple syrup & peanut butter. Similar to Tailgates Peanut Butter Milk Stout. Decent parking too around the brewery and across the street. TVs around the bar area always playing sports games too so not a bad spot to catch a game. Servers and bar staff are all friendly and check in often. Love this spot.

Yelp
Great selection of beers and in all different styles. They also have a cooler of canned beers you can purchase to take home. We didn't eat but the food smelled great so maybe next time we'll plan to eat too. Really clean inside and modern. Great spot

Yelp
Cool brewery with great food. The prices are a bit high, but you do get quality food so I guess that is the trade-off. Nice atmosphere and they do have outdoor seating when the weather is right. Service was excellent and our server was very knowledgeable about the food and beer menus. I would definitely go back if I was in the area.

Yelp
Such good beers! Nice variety. Everyone could find something they like. I really loved the passion fruit guava sour, it was so tasty. The brewery is so cute and comfortable. I loved all the decor using plants, around the bar and scattered around. Beer tenders were really cool. I think half of the brewery is a restaurant with servers and very fancy food. You could order this food at the bar too and they'll bring it for you. We actually didn't even know what some of the stuff of the menu was, wish there was a more simple menu of bar eats to nibble on with more simple ingredients for when your tasting the beers. They had Harry Potter playing on tv which was a nice change of pace of what breweries normally have playing. Small parking lot, outdoor patio seating for when the weather is nice. We went twice here on our short trip to nashville which shows how much we liked it!

Yelp
Great beer and surprisingly great food for a brewery. The dark beers are fantastic. Will say the bar area ambiance is a bit off with the plants but that's just me. Will be back for some grub and pub time soon.

Yelp
I couldn't leave Nashville without bringing with us some awesome Hazyness. I have to thank a friend from the Atlanta Beer Community FB page, Mark C., who gave me a couple of tips on where I could find some good hazies. While I couldn't taste before I bought, the menu descriptions were sufficient to make a decision. This place definitely deserves high praises for their creatively juicy hazy IPAs. Man these were good! Well worth the trip. Glad we stopped in.

Yelp
My first trip to Nashville and we did it all - show at the Opry, Broadway bars, Country Music Hall of Fame, barbecue, etc... but the highlight of our trip? Visiting Southern Grist Brewing! I travel a lot and visit a lot of breweries. This was the first that I'd give a 10/10 for the beer, food, service AND swag. In total, I tried five sours - all were amazing. The Chocolate Covered Cherry Melted Sno Cone was one of the strangest, yet delicious, beers I've ever tried and I was grateful to bring a four pack home to Michigan with me. The poutine was the perfect fusion of traditional poutine with southern flavors - absolute perfection. The staff working the bar were all very professional, attentive and helpful. Finally, the swag selection was huge. Very large variety of T-shirts, hats, glassware and other miscellaneous items. If you get to visit one place in all of Nashville, this is it!

Yelp
We came here two nights in a row while staying just down the block on vacation. We loved their great selections of sours and especially the blue sno cone slushy beer-I mean, how could you possibly go wrong. The food selection was all really good and a great variety. A plus-they had soccer playing on the tvs in the bar area!

Yelp
I loved this place. I went in to get some work done and there were plenty of outlets for computers, phones, etc. The beer was fantastic and the service was excellent. The ambiance was casual, there was music playing but not too loud. I got there around 1 on a Friday and it was very chill with few people. It got more lively around 3. Definitely will be back!

Yelp
Great vibes and great beer! The decor is super cute, the service was fast, and it had a great laid back vibe! I didn't try any of the food, but it looked and smelled amazing! Perfect place to visit on a beautiful afternoon. I tried both an IPA and a sour and both were incredible! The IPA was very flavorful and smooth. I'm normally not into sours, but this one was very fruity and easy to drink. A must visit if you're in Nashville!

Yelp
I was okay with this brewery. I did not enjoy the sweet potato with curry. I did enjoy the vinegar potatoes with their house made fry sauce. The service was pretty good. The server was attentive. It is a little loud but the ambiance is your typical brewery.

Yelp
Southern Grist was a brewery I've had my eye on to try for a little while. I'm glad I got to try it as I felt like the beers provided a unique experience in craft beer drinking which is something I'm always on the look out for. The first beer that Steve and I had was the Double Dry Hopped Mixed Greens. This is a New England IPA that comes in many versions. Truth be told after investigating I couldn't quite figure which version it was I had but it was still a good New England IPA and had a good haziness to it that made it intriguing and of course I love anything dry hopped. The next beer was really where the uniqueness lied. We shared the Banana Colada Melted Sno Cone. Living up to it's namesake the beer did look like a sno cone melted in it. Categorized as a smoothie beer it lived up to that part as well. This beer definitely tastes like a banana colada but is probably best to share with someone else rather than have a whole pint of it because it is very sweet. If you are a honey bee and have a big sweet tooth then perhaps you can drink a pint with ease with this one.

Yelp
You can find this, the newest location of Southern Grist Brewing, at 754 Douglas Ave, Nashville, TN 37207 in East Nashville in the Lauter/Cleveland Park area. There's some parking next to the building but the lot is pretty tight - might be better to park nearby and walk to the brewery. Was able to visit this location on my most recent Nashville visit. Between this and Nations, this one would win due to the availability of food as it's a brewey-restaurant. For food I tried some snacky items: * Marcona style almonds, truffle, flaked salt - add chili crisp - these were delicious with a slightly spicy and savory texture that went well with most of the beer. * Crispy vinegar potatoes, adjika powder, fry sauce - these had the texture of twice-fried potatoes with a crunchy outside and fluffy inside - it went really well with the fry sauce. * Chicken wings, marinated in adjika and yogurt, bonito flakes, white bbq - these were pretty interesting with a lot of smokiness from the bonito flake making up a bit for the lack of smoke on the actual wings. The wings were crispy with burn-your-mouth heat on the inside (let them cool a bit) - the wings are really large and you get all three bits (shoulder to tip) - I do wish the portion was a bit bigger but it's still a pretty stout dish. The next time I'm trying the fried chicken. For beer we did the following: * Mangonada Hill Fruited Sour 4.1/5 - Pretty tasty somewhat bright sour with notes of mango, creamy body and a bit of peppery heat in the sweet finish. * Perpetual Composition: Pinot Noir & Balaton Cherry (Blend No. 1) Wild Ale 4.35 - Quite a nice wild with tart cherry notes in a vinous body with a touch of oak and a funky finish. * Mildly Lit Triple NEIPA 4/5 - Good Triple NEIPA with hazy juicy body, tropical notes mostly grapefruit, a strong somewhat boozy hoppy bitter finish. * Pushin P Fruited Sour 3.9/5 - Oddly flavored sour with nutty and tropical notes, hard to identify sweet almost guava flavor, finishes dry and sweet * Slab Series: Never More than a Whisper Fruited Sour - 4/5 - Margarita beer that honestly needs a shot of tequila, slightly smoky tart lime finishing sweet mango and a bit salty with nice mouthfeel. * The Real Contender NEIPA 4.1/5 - Crushable juicy NEIPA with sweet citrus and tropical notes, finishing juicy and hoppy. * Marshmallow Tropical Kiwi Hill Fruited Sour 4.2/5 - Pretty tasty thick bodied sour with juicy tropical notes of pineapple, passion fruit and kiwi finishing sticky sweet with vanilla marshmallow In general the service we pretty good although it did take some time for our various food items to come out - the drinks were speedy. I really like the feel of this location - it's really more a restaurant than a brewery in vibe.

Yelp
Southern Grist has grown up a lot since we started going to them in 2018 and it's been awesome to see the progress. The old brewery at Porter Rd got too small for them and they expanded to this current location. It's much more spacious, but most importantly, they now have an amazing kitchen here called Lauter. We came before Christmas last year soon after it opened and it's pretty amazing. They have a ton of taps here, so they have all of their rotating beers along with some fun guest beers. The food is fantastic overall and they're really knocking it out of the park with their dishes. We got a few things when we came so we could try things out and everything was absolutely delicious. The crispy potatoes were seasoned perfectly and were mouthwatering, the sourdough focaccia was amazingly chewy yet fluffy and sourdough butter is just a great idea. We also tried the dry aged burger (sooooo good) and the Japanese fried chicken, which was also very tasty. Bottom line, Southern Grist has always been a fantastic place because of their beer (our favorite brewery), but it's really upped its game with their new kitchen, which is absolutely amazing!

Yelp
I went into the new location with my expectations kind of low. Hear me out. I liked the Porter Road taproom. It was quirky, it had a vibe, and from what I had read, the new location was Scandinavian sterile/restaurant. The rumors were not wrong. It is more restaurant. The look is Scandinavian sterile but it's fine. It's more than fine. The beer was as good as it's always been. The food though, wow. We got the sourdough with apple butter and bao buns. Both kind of blew us away. I was not expecting it. The food really is that great. The bread had a really delightful crisp and the apple butter really brought it together with the drizzle of salt. The buns had the right amount of heat. Honestly, I want to go back and try more food, and drink beer, but more food. The place was packed Friday at 4pm so come prepared. There was a line around the bar to order drinks. We were in a section with a waiter and he was terrific: prompt, knowledgeable, and very kind. I wouldn't bring my kids here, maybe early in the day but it's just not that kind of brewery and I'm cool with that. However, I would bring a baby. My only wish and I know this goes against the concept of a brewery, but I wish it had wine or some other drink options. Even hard Kombucha would work. That's a small wish, very small. Overall I'm so glad they are over on my side of Gallatin.

Yelp
One of my favor breweries! There hasn't been a single bad experience going here. I love introducing my friends to this place. Beers are great, food is delicious.
