As a wine club member who has visited multiple times, I was shocked by the rude and dismissive treatment I received during my most recent visit. I stopped by looking forward to enjoying a glass of Ruckus Syrah and brought along my certified service dog, a well-trained mini-Aussie. Upon entering, I presented her Service Animal card, only to be met with hostility and arrogance.
The staff member—who I assume was the concierge—immediately dismissed us, refusing to acknowledge my dog’s certification. Without any justification, she said, “No, that thing goes outside.” I calmly explained that I intended to sit outside anyway, but felt it was important to clarify that my dog is a service animal, regardless. As she walked away, she responded childishly with, “I heard you,” showing zero professionalism or courtesy.
My dog remained perfectly behaved throughout—no barking, no jumping, no issues whatsoever. In stark contrast, I visited Mark Ryan Winery just down the street afterward and was warmly welcomed, service animal and all.
If you’re looking for a wine venue that respects its guests, follows ADA guidelines, and treats visitors with basic decency, Sparkman is one to skip. The space was nearly empty, which in hindsight, makes sense. In an area full of top-tier wine tasting experiences, Sparkman stands out for all the wrong reasons—unprofessional staff, poor management, and an unwelcome atmosphere. A truly disappointing and avoidable experience.
