Spring Cafe - Review - Aspen - The Infatuation

"When you walk into Spring Cafe Aspen you’ll be hit with the sound of Vitamixes blasting fruits and vegetables for juice and smoothies as an athleisure-clad crowd waits at the counter. The vegetarian menu featuring plenty of vegan and gluten-free options is a rarity in the area, and great for those with dietary restrictions. We love warming up in the winter with the sweet potato gnocchi tossed with roasted vegetables, romesco sauce, and goat cheese, or the pad thai with marinated tofu and sesame sauce. photo credit: Craig Turpin" - Katie Shapiro

The 15 Best Restaurants In Aspen

"Spring Cafe Aspen is a buzzy breakfast, brunch, and late lunch spot and is also the best (and only) vegan- and gluten-free-friendly option in town. You’re hit with the sound of Vitamixes blasting fruits and vegetables as soon as you walk in, and the line to order at the counter is basically an athleisure fashion show. We’ve recently been loving the comforting ginger tofu phở bowl and sweet potato gnocchi with roasted vegetables, romesco sauce, and goat cheese." - katie shapiro

The 21 Essential Aspen Restaurants

"Sabrina Rudin, whose passion for the plant-based lifestyle is infectious, was ahead of her time in opening Spring Cafe Aspen in 2013. Since then, clean eaters have flocked to this sunny, social spot for juice, coffee, breakfast, and lunch. Highlights on the winter menu include pumpkin oatmeal with house-made nut mylk, sourdough French toast with caramelized bananas and cashew vanilla drizzle, stuffed roasted sweet potato with sauteed greens and cashew coconut cream, and a smoky tempeh gyro." - Katie Shapiro

Google
Spring Café is a gem in the heart of Aspen for anyone looking for fresh, wholesome food. With a huge vegetarian and vegan menu, it’s hands down one of the best spots in town for plant-based options. Everything tastes incredibly fresh, and the atmosphere is clean, bright, and welcoming. Whether you’re fully vegan or just looking for a healthy meal, this place delivers. A must-visit if you’re in Aspen!

Google
This is a good place for vegans and vegetarians in terms of the menu. I love the food - it is fresh, organic, and healthy. Very expensive as well (like everything in Aspen). I’m giving this restaurant 3 stars because the acoustics are so amazingly bad!!! It’s the loudest place you can imagine if you eat inside - even with the big glass doors wide open. You’ll have to yell during a conversation. I got a headache eating my lunch. Next time I’m ordering to go. Sit outside amongst the beautiful flower arrangements if there is availability. The staff does not really care about providing good service, the priority is to keep the orders over the counter coming without any involvement with the customer. It is a fast paced eatery. Something like a Wendy’s for vegetarians but super pricey :)

Google
Great place to grab a quick bite. Came here as part of a walking tour. Food was fresh and clean, open patio seating. Chai Latte was spicy and delicious! Himalayan Pink Salt available.

Ben Blue

Google
Best place in aspen for vegan plant based healthy foods. On this trip I got the side of tempeh added to my salad. It was delicious. I have frequented this restaurant a number of times. They are consistently good. The waiting time for takeout is not long either. And you can call ahead/order online. They also serve wine and beer. Ideal spot for lunch. Smoothies. Wraps. Salads. Juices. Dairy free options. Also morning they work like a coffee shop with Coffee, burritos and Pastries. Lots of gluten free options very GF friendly. I love the Caesar dressing. Best place for healthy lunch. A bit pricey - but hey it’s Aspen! Friendly and efficient staff.

Google
Delicious spot to grab a nice lunch. Great selection of vegan items with a few non vegan (egg) things to choose from. The Reuben was fantastic. The Southwest salad met expectations, but honestly, it’s just a salad. A good few deserts to pick from as well. Full coffee and tea bar as well.

Google
I came in here with my wife for lunch and it was a solid choice. I had a burrito, which was definitely tasty and very filling with the potatoes and eggs in it. The showstoppers were the smoothies. Definitely worth a stop, but only drawback was the price was a bit steep.

Nikolai Mannsfeld

Google
Nice coffee shop in Aspen. Decided to get a quick drink and snack real quick. It was great. Staff friendly and quick, plenty of seating, and great food and drinks. The pumpkin bread I got was delicious. Overall, great place to stop for a quick drink or bite.

Google
So amazing!!! We were in town for spring break and have also dined at the owners cafe in NYC. Everything is DELICIOUS!!! I am obsessed and hopeful they will ship their cookies to me! This is a must if visiting the area!!! Love, NOLA fans!!!!

Yelp
We have the Caesar salad as well as the chickpea tuna sandwich both which were absolutely delicious. Also, I had the Matcha latte with coconut milk and happy to say that it was unsweetened, which is where are these days. It was quite good! Very nice service. I wish the music was a bit lower volume, but overall, this was a lovely place to have lunch

Yelp
I used to love coming here. The menu has changed a lot over the years and I feel like in some aspects declined. The prices have significantly increased for what you receive. I know it's Aspen so prices are generally higher however it seems a little high for what they offer now. I will say my sandwich and juice was delicious and no complaints there however 23$ for a very small sandwich and chips from a bag doesn't seem worth it. My fiance loved the pho. The ingredients are fresh and tasty so I do appreciate that. The environment is open and airy and very modern. It has a Panera or noodles and company vibe where you order at the counter and sit with a number and they bring it to you and that's the extent of the service from staff. The staff was very friendly and the food arrived at the table quickly.
google avatar

Devi K.

Yelp
Great menu with lots of choices for vegans and vegetarians. Enjoyed the tempeh reuben but wished it was served with potato chips rather than tortilla chips. Vegan nachos were average.
google avatar

Rachael M.

Yelp
The superhero burrito (vegan) was incredible and made my morning. Stuffed with scrambled tofu, veggies, daiya cheese, and perfectly roasted potatoes - I will dream about this. The salsa tasted a bit more like marinara sauce than salsa but this was absolutely a 5-star burrito. The staff were very friendly especially during a busy morning.
google avatar

Stefany M.

Yelp
I am really disappointed that this was the restaurant we picked to have breakfast at in Aspen. There has to be a far better restaurants especially for the price! The staff was really unfriendly and not welcoming at all. They gave me a regular latte instead of a matcha latte, and they seemed irritated at me for pointing out the mistake. I got the farmers omelette and really enjoyed it but the sweet potatoes they served with it were something you feed a baby. They were boiled and that's it. No seasoning, no finishing just boiled. Gross. My kids didn't like the almond pancakes, but I liked them. We will not be back for another $70 breakfast.
google avatar

Chloe P.

Yelp
The food is good and very healthy it is definitely a great place for vegans and vegetarians, the service did take a little while and no one cleaned the table I was going to sit in. It is definitely a simple modern cafe and is nothing fancy. Although it has fancy prices, I would say it is a little to expensive for the type of service that it has

Yelp
One word. Disappointing. Ordered the Ruben. Terribly greasy. Enough for an auto oil change. Really not a great Ruben flavor either. Wife's Highlands bowl. Great steamed veggies but tofu tasted like fish. Not worth the $$. Keep movNothing to see here folks. Update. Made the same mistake of ordering the Rueben again. Still horrible. Doesn't taste remotely like a Rueben.

Yelp
Due to their many healthy choices we decided to try out Spring cafe for breakfast. The place is of a decent size and arriving at 7am made us the first customers that day. It's counter service so grab a menu when you step in and place your order. I went with both the farmers omelette and the blueberries pancake. Thought both were good but the pancakes were tastier mainly due to their crispy edges texture. The feta cheese went really well with the farmers omelette. My wife went with the superhero burrito and she enjoyed her dish. The portions are pretty generous. Here are my ratings: Farmers omelette: 8/10 Blueberries pancake: 8.5/10

Yelp
I was simply rendezvousing with friends here and didn't order anything myself. However, my friend wasn't able to finish her large order of quesadillas so I got to eat 1/4, it was very nice and tasty. The other orders: 2 veggie burgers and 1 tempeh Reuben looked fantastic. I never ventured inside so I can't speak to ambience, cleanliness, or decor, but, they have relatively nice outdoor seating.
google avatar

Ali D.

Yelp
Excellent menu, very vegan friendly, delicious food. We both had the vegan Reuben which was amazing. During warmer weather, the patio seating is the way to go. The day we went there was beyond lunch rush, it was unsettling. The seating area was like a tornado had gone through. When we called to order pick-up, they put me on hold for 18 minutes. I should have hung up and moved on with my life but after I'd invested that much time, I couldn't walk away. Boyfriend called them back and our order was placed and life was good again.
google avatar

Isabelle F.

Yelp
Delicious food and amazing ambience. Was there during summer time and seating outside by the manicured flowers was a treat. Had the veg wrap and was amazing. Already went back for more ! must try :)
google avatar

Nora F.

Yelp
I can't believe I never knew this was here. I used to live in CA but I live in California now and this is the kind of restaurant that should be all over California but it's not. Fresh and organic and delicious. I had tuna pita and everything about it was great from the sprouts to the tuna and the seeded pita. Even the organic wine was delicious and I'm not usually a fan. New fave.

Peter R.

Yelp
Good and quick service, the avocado tempeh Reuben was very tasty. Will return if back in town.
google avatar

Alejandra R.

Yelp
Delicious restaurant with many gluten free and vegan options. My husband had the breakfast burrito with tofu and enjoyed it a lot. I had the refreshing berry tea and the very filling and delicious cauliflower salad. Since we stopped after a long hike we were ravenous and also shared an order of nachos. The nachos were SO GOOD! The consistency of the vegan cheese was just like that of nacho cheese and so good. These are my favorite vegan nachos out there. Now the reason my review is 4 stars and not 5 is because of our experience with my husband's dessert. After our meal he went back and ordered a slice of apple pie... the same pie that was in their display case already sliced and plated. It took them about 15 minutes to "heat up" the pie and even then the slice was just lukewarm. This was a disappointing end to an otherwise exceptional meal.

Yelp
It's been going down hill since covid. It's riding on its laurels of the only clean food place is town, yet it's all carelessly prepared. Three recent visits and watching others food show the lack of Managment and professional magic they opened up. It's like a conveyer belt. Nothing looks great. Please fix this former gem. We need it. Tell me you addressing these issues and I will remove the post.
google avatar

Amy Z.

Yelp
Beautiful modern interior design but the food is average for my taste. The staffs were very nice so I gave 3 stars for that. I had banana chocolate bread and it was gluten free, very dry and tasteless. It seems everything they have is gluten free which is wonderful if they add a bit taste. The vibe is ok, overall is really ok.

Jamie C.

Yelp
The owners should come out from NY and check on their Aspen location occasionally..... not what it once was at all. Super run down, food & service.
google avatar

D. W.

Yelp
Absolutely LOVED the tofu super hero breakfast burrito! Ate here two mornings in a row bc it is just that good. Also great gluten free banana and pumpkin bread and raw matcha balls! Lots of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options.

Alejandro I.

Yelp
Nice place, horrible service. Guy working the cash register could not be more indifferent with clients and rude. I would avoid
google avatar

Kim B.

Yelp
Definitely the spot to go if you are vegan/gluten free in Aspen. They have TONS of vegan/gf pastries, cake, menu items ect. Ordered the gluten free banana french toast and a gf breakfast burrito. Pleased with both of them. Juices are really good as well!
google avatar

Yulia B.

Yelp
I feel bad for leaving this review, but we had to throw away $60 worth of food because it was inedible. I've never done that before :( I really appreciate the concept of this place, healthy food is hard to come by, but the execution is just not there. Everything was so extremely over salted, we couldn't even bear with it. Egg white omelets and vegan sausage were especially sodium-galore. Sweet potatoes that came on the side were undercooked and fruit was far from being somewhat ripe. We also got blueberry pancakes, that was the most edible food item, though if you're not a fan of very dense dough - you will not like them either. And unfortunately, that's why we had to toss all the food. The coffee and matcha drinks were good

Rich G.

Yelp
Excellent.. everything was great .... Service ... and the smoothies , banana bread were terrific
google avatar

Shilpa C.

Yelp
We walked in here for breakfast this morning. Great place! We got blueberry pancakes GF, GF banana oatmeal, poached eggs, green juice and latte. Great service, pretty quick and pleasant staff. Food was really good, pancakes are a killer, I am going back again one time before we leave Aspen. Ton of gluten free options. Outdoor seating as well, weather was so pleasant and we could bring our dog. Will come here again.

Gin H.

Yelp
Vegetarian friendly, delicious food with both indoor and outdoor areas for seating. The food was delicious!
google avatar

Rini J.

Yelp
Horrible service , horrible sandwiches and wraps , coffee tasted more like hot chocolate

Melanie S.

Yelp
As a local, I've tried to frequent this business, particularly during COVID to show support. I commend them for efforts to keep staff and customers safe. Plus, there are few places left in Aspen for quick bites, and breakfast. But Spring Cafe's service is so deficient, I'll not return. Try ordering what's on the menu at the door, and too often it's not available. Then you have to return to the door to look at daily menu, losing place in line. After another wait in line to order, and a wait for food, too often the incorrect food arrives. It's bizarre because their staff/customer ratio is higher, but consistently comes up short, alas. I hope the constructive feedback compels them to improve. We need a quality "quick bite" restaurant in Aspen!
google avatar

Darby P.

Yelp
I LOVE their nachos. But every time I come here I ask for nachos without sour cream and 9/10 times I get the sour cream. The guy at the counter is a dick too. I keep coming back because the food is great but the service is horrible
google avatar

Matt C.

Yelp
Overall Reese's good. I came here looking for a healthy light lunch. I went with the Caesar Salad, Soup Du Jour, Bubbly Water and a Mocha! All weree excelLent. The Mocha was exceptional. Lots of seating and a very friendly staff. My order arrived fairly quick and aLl items were prepped well. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a healthier lunch option while in Aspen. Enjoy!
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
Healthy, clean, fresh. This is a great place to get coffee, smoothies or a healthy breakfast!

G S.

Yelp
This restaurant is horrible !!!!! DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU ARE GLUTEN FREE OR HAVE CELIAC !!!!! Specifically came in and asked for a gluten free meal for my cousin who has Celiac, alerting them on how bad of an allergy this is and they stayed they could compensate. After almost eating all of the food that they brought her, an employee came with gluten free bread telling us that the bread she had been eating the entire time was multi grain and is full of gluten! She has now been sick for the past few days, and after alerting the employees on how horrible of an issue they have caused, they seemed to not care at all. This restaurant has horrible service and staff. Again DO NOT EAT HERE ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE AN ALLERGY TO GLUTEN !!!!

Leo G.

Yelp
Supposed to be a gluten friendly restaurant, served my sister who has celiac disease bread, we were very clear about the extreme severity of her allergy, complete negligence and the food was pretty bad too
google avatar

Jonathan S.

Yelp
Disappointed :( coffee wasn't that great. Not very friendly for Aspen and I just got approached by a staff member that asked me if my dog was a service animal. When I said yes they requested the ppw. Seriously guys?! See why you are not 4+ on here. This is Aspen, customer service should be epic.
google avatar

Caroline C.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my breakfast here at Spring Cafe. I am usually not the type of person to go to fully organic restaurants but I happened upon this restaurant when I was searching for a quick breakfast. I loved their avocado toast and their huevos rancheros. I think the burrito is a little dry, but it's not bad at all! I will definitely be ordering the avocado toast again next time I come. The location is conveniently located right in town. 10/10 would recommend
google avatar

Mark C.

Yelp
The Spring Cafe serves delicious vegan food. I had the avacado black bean quesadilla! Amazing. Also enjoyed the corn chowder. If you are looking for a great vegan option in Aspen, here's one !
google avatar

Natashia K.

Yelp
Charming vegan/vegetarian restaurant with plenty of seating and friendly service. I had the veggie meatloaf which was quite tasty and very filling.

Mikaela M.

Yelp
Dear Spring Cafe, Thank you for providing breakfast at 7AM. It's hard to find good nutritious food for breakfast in this town before having to be at work at 7:30AM. Your staff is amazing and always helpful. Your food never disappoints. Lastly, your VEGAN chocolate chip cookies are AMAZING. Please never change the recipe.
google avatar

Brittany F.

Yelp
Spring cafe is a welcome addition to Aspen, offering healthy fare in a modern, bright space. We stopped by this weekend for brunch and tried a couple of things. It's a casual place where you order at the counter and then sit down with a number. We ordered the Huevos rancheros, the blueberry bliss smoothie, a piece of the banana walnut bread and a green juice. The highlights were the smoothie and the Huevos. The Huevos dish was massive! It would easily feed two, maybe even three people! I loved the flavors. There were sweet potatoes, tomatoes, eggs and ranchero sauce. A fantastic breakfast dish that I'd want in my morning routine if this place were in LA. The smoothie was a little sweet and so refreshing. This would have been a great breakfast all on it's own. I'll come here every time I visit aspen for a healthy lunch or breakfast!

E L.

Yelp
THIS IS AN AWFUL PLACE!! what kind of restaurant gives someone who is ALLERGIC TO GLUTEN bread even after being told how severe the allergy is. Absolutely disgusting and to make things worse even after being told about the incident they didn't care WHATSOEVER! even though they put someone in danger. Horrible service. Tells you what kind of business it is. Save yourself some time and avoid this place at all costs :)

Hannah C.

Yelp
Was told they would not make me a matcha smoothie because they were not allowed to. I asked why saying I just got one there the other day. She said no they were not allowed to make me this smoothie... because it had bananas in it and they were running out of bananas too often............. (this is a healthy cafe that specializes in smoothies, juices and healthy food). She said she would have to call her manager to ask her if she could make me this smoothie.......... when I kept telling her how ridiculous this was she finally got frustrated enough and made me one. Not her fault but I hope someone reads this so you can fix this customer service, smoothie, and supply and demand issue... This sh*t is bananas!

Isa C.

Yelp
They served one of my friends bread who is deathly allergic to gluten. When we brought this up to them they didn't even care.

Jan M.

Yelp
Nice location and that's where it ends. Rude and disorganized. Lost meal. Salad came warm. Avoid.

Jessica D.

Yelp
Food is good, fresh, and healthy (the tofu and smoothies are both great). The service is horrible, unfriendly, and blamey. They constantly forget orders, are rude, and talk over you. Two stars because the food is good if you're looking for something fresh and light in town, otherwise I'd give this place a 1 star rating.
google avatar

Andrea C.

Yelp
When i am in Aspen I enjoy the Turmeric Latte at Customer service sucks here. The other day, i waited at the counter with 3 employees opposite me. Nobody acknowledged my presence. A man walked in behind me and the young guy behind the counter began to serve him. I spoke up and said that I had been waiting and would like a Turmeric Latte. The woman who ignored me the whole time told me the boy would be right with me. Appalled by the customer service, i walked away. Used the bathroom and left. I will never order anything from this cafe but I will use the restroom while in the neighborhood. I highly recommend using their restrooms if you are in the neighborhood.
google avatar

Evan A.

Yelp
No complaints here but over priced. I ordered the avocado smoothie and my friend ordered the beet watermelon juice. Great taste to both, although the beet juice was a pretty intense flavor.
google avatar

Rod G.

Yelp
Great spot to grab a healthy breakfast. They have many food and drink options. I tried a bagel egg sandwich and a matcha tea. They offer to substitute tofu for eggs. Milk alternative are almond, coconut or soy.
google avatar

Cloud V.

Yelp
Cappuccino. Will suffice. Omelette. A bit too salty. The side of tomatoes are too sour. The sweet potatoes. Meh. 3.5. Just say sure.

Loren S.

Yelp
I would not leave a negative review unless it was egregious. Well, this place deserves 1 star at best. The food was below average. I've eaten at many vegetarian and vegan places. The food was still bland. But it's the terrible, rude service that takes the cake here. One of us ordered the black bean soup, which was supposed to come with corn bread. They were out of corn bread and would not replace it with anything else. Which is socking for any price. To top it off, my curry bowl was bland so I asked for a little curry sauce on the side, which they wanted to charge me for. Finally, during these interactions, the staff was rude and dismissive. As rude as any service person I've encountered.
google avatar

Daniel L.

Yelp
It just depends on the staff of the day, but, the concept is great and the execution is mostly good. Just make certain the front counter person has put in the order as you've requested, so, if there are any special requirements, it is put in to machine so the kitchen know to prep it that way. Spring Café's menu is balanced and if you like a healthy meal this is a great spot. Also, don't be put off if the customers are mostly Prima Donna types...Aspen attracts many pretentious, self absorbed, and "special people" that left good manners at the round-a-bout. But that's not your fault, because you were raised to be a good person and those good manners are appreciated in Aspen by the local folks.

Lauren C.

Yelp
Staff is awful. Not a single care about customer satisfaction. Talked down on my family and I and treated me as if we were lucky if they chose to do anything for us. A coffee mishap led to us asking for a new iced coffee, where they proceeded to ramble to each other before saying they didn't have more. The next person in line walked out with one! Definitely avoiding this place in the future. Don't come if you are expect the bare minimum of food service.
