Succulent is one of Houston's newest farm-to-table additions, and with even just a month in, they're showing a lot of potential. Again, I'm hard to please so keep that at the forefront as you read this. The space is gorgeous, from the chic bar area to the well decorated dining room and the spacious upstairs patio. The ambiance alone is worth the visit. There were a few too many tables in the dining area which made it feel a bit cluttered but again, they are working through their first month.
We originally sat on the patio, but the Houston humidity (and incoming monsoon) quickly convinced us to wait for a high-top table at the bar. Even though we were about an hour past our reservation time at that point, the staff remained kind and accommodating, which we really appreciated.
The menu isn't overly extensive, true to its farm-to-table nature, but still had a few enticing options. I went with the shrimp and lobster tostadas, which was flavorful and well-balanced. My friend had the steak and eggs, and we shared a side of fries. We also tried to order the cinnamon roll, but unfortunately, our waiter forgot to put it in. By the time we reminded him, they were sold out, and no apology was offered, which was disappointing.
That said, once the bartenders took over our service, the experience really picked up. They were attentive, personable, and even offered my friend a complimentary drink because they had accidentally made an extra. That gesture stood out in a great way. To wrap things up, we shared the lemon cake with some green tea, the perfect ending to our meal. We ended up spending nearly 3 hours there, and it was time well spent.
Succulent is clearly still ironing out a few service hiccups, but the food, vibe, and overall experience make it worth a visit. I'll definitely be back once they hit their stride!
P.S: Street parking is available if you don't want to use the garage.
