"A warm summer-evening vibe and generous portions of shaved ice set the scene for flavors that "toe the line between traditional Korean taste with modern sensibilities," with a clear attention to detail and texture. The taro bingsu is a mound of light, earthy tuber-flavored shaved ice paired with nutty, toasted coconut flakes; a gooey heap of sweetened red beans; and cubes of mochi — the shaved ice provides cold and melt, red beans offer a break from brain freeze, and mochi supplies a welcome chewiness, while toasted shreds of coconut add contrast. That kind of consideration is implemented across the menu: a coffee bingsu topped with slivered almonds and granola; a chocolate bingsu loaded with chocolate truffles, whipped cream, and a dusting of cocoa powder; a strawberry cheese bingsu with fresh strawberries and generous cubes of cheesecake. At the time of the visit there was also a seasonal corn flavor with pops of actual sweet corn kernels. "Whichever flavor you get..., whether you prefer fruity shaved ice or something more dessert-forward, you can’t make a wrong decision here." - Kat Thompson

"Located on the second floor of MaDang Courtyard, this spot specializes in bingsoo (Korean shaved ice) featuring snow-like ice layered with flavors such as taro, green tea, and injeolmi; the desserts are sweet enough to satisfy without becoming cloying, and the menu rotates special seasonal flavors like corn bingsoo." - Eater Staff

"A bingsu specialist on the second floor of a courtyard complex where machines shave blocks of ice into a fine, snowy texture piled into large, shareable bowls. Classics include the original bingsu topped with mochi and red bean and the injeolmi version dusted with nutty soybean powder; fruit-driven options like strawberry and mango arrive with fresh-cut fruit, and condensed milk and other traditional toppings are available." - Rebecca Roland
"Even after an all-out KBBQ feast, make space for a bingsoo from Sul & Beans. This milk ice at this chaotic sit-down dessert restaurant in Koreatown is fresh, light, and delicious, with plenty of options for toppings. It’s best to come with a group so you can try a few flavors—we tend to prioritize the mango (for something sweet and juicy) and the injeolmi (for something nutty and more savory). No matter what, consider adding housemade mochi to your refreshing mountain of bingsoo—the roasted flavor contrasted with the shaved ice has us in a chokehold." - garrett snyder, arden shore, sylvio martins
