While our experience at Roman Restaurant Supplì in Mexico City had some positive aspects, there were also notable shortcomings that impacted our overall satisfaction. Initially, we appreciated being accommodated as walk-ins and found the servers to be friendly and attentive. The menu offerings were intriguing, and we were eager to sample a variety of dishes. However, our excitement waned when our order arrived.
We opted for the Suppli appetizer, a salad, and two pasta dishes. Unfortunately, one of the pasta dishes we received was not what we had ordered; we had requested carbonara but were served Amatriciana instead. Despite our limited Spanish proficiency, we assumed this was a simple misunderstanding and chose not to make a fuss, as we are not particularly picky eaters.
The real disappointment came with the second pasta dish, the vongole. More than half of the clams in the dish were still closed, rendering them inedible. This oversight raised concerns about the quality control and attention to detail in the kitchen. Serving a clam dish with such a high proportion of unopened clams is unacceptable and reflects poorly on the restaurant's standards. Despite putting all the closed clams off to the side, the servers just cleared the plate without checking in.
Overall, while we appreciated the efforts of the staff and enjoyed certain aspects of our meal, the inaccuracies in our order and the subpar quality of the vongole detracted from our dining experience. With some improvements in consistency and quality control, Roman Restaurant Suppli
has the potential to earn higher ratings in the future.
