Sushi Bar - Review - East Quarter - Dallas - The Infatuation

"Heads up, this place feels a hell of a lot like Sushi By Scratch. (Both restaurants were started by the same chef.) Once you’re past that, settle into this cozy underground bunker and order a cold, effervescent Japanese highball or a sake flight. Then sit back as 17 more-fun-than-traditional courses appear before you, like bluefin tuna topped with everything bagel spice, and dessert-like A5 wagyu brushed with brown butter miso." - Kevin Gray

The 12 Hottest Restaurants in Dallas, January 2024

"Omakase anyone? This spot in the East Quarter offers a 17-course experience in a pair of subterranean rooms that hold only 12 guests. Its an intimate eating experience, obviously, with fish flown in daily from Japan, Australia, and California. A meal costs is $165 per person, with curated sake and wine pairings available at an additional cost. A $50 deposit per person is required with a reservation." - Courtney E. Smith

I absolutely love tasting menus and adventures, and Sushi Bar definitely delivered. The timing of the courses was perfect and I liked that each one was explained. I enjoyed it so much I made another reservation that night to take a friend I knew would love it. It’s more expensive than a typical dinner in Dallas, but you also get to watch the food be prepared and it’s really more of an experience. I saw another reviewer saying they were made to eat with their hands and weren’t even given chopsticks- I wanted to say that we were offered utensils, but told that the best way to eat it would be by hand since the rice could easily fall apart if subjected to chopsticks. We had towels and I thought it actually made the meal seem more homey and intimate.

Google
Sushi | Bar was a treat...and a bit of a trick. Typically, we like to give a very detailed review - but this one we will keep short. 1. Food - 5 2. Service - 5 3. Price - 2 (over $600 for two people in Dallas is absurd). 4. Location - 2 (parking is difficult, and it's kind of hard to find) 5. Chef Ben - 5 We would recommend only for a one-time event. They are way too expensive, have a limited beverage menu, and make you eat with your hands (no chopsticks). To be honest ... the food is the real reason to go (if you want an omakase-style dinner).

Google
I've experienced several omakase dinners before, and this was easily one of my favorites. The chefs were both entertaining and personable, making the evening even more enjoyable. The food was exceptional, and the entire experience was flawless from start to finish.

We recently had an exceptional dining experience at a sushi bar in Dallas. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the omakase menu, featuring 17 meticulously crafted courses. Each course was a single item, but the progression left me completely satisfied. The chefs truly showcased their expertise, with each piece being a work of art in both flavor and presentation. The quality and freshness of the ingredients were evident in every bite. The variety kept things exciting, with a delightful mix of traditional and innovative dishes. If you're looking for a memorable sushi experience in Dallas, this place should be at the top of your list. The combination of skilled chefs, an impressive menu, and a welcoming atmosphere makes it a must-visit for any sushi enthusiast.

Absolutely beautiful, upscale, fresh, exquisite experience. I had the pleasure of celebrating my birthday there and it was beyond what I expected. The moment you walk in you're greeted by a complimentary bellini and wait for everyone in that reservation to arrive. There are only 12 people allowed per reserve time which creates an intimate dining experience. The meal is pre-coursed and you can add on things like caviar, truffles, and foie gras. You can also pair your sushi with different saki, whiskey or wine flights. The staff and chef are so nice and knowledgeable. Each sushi is crafted in front of us and I can't express how delicious each piece was. They were so soft and each bite melted in your mouth. There's no chopsticks, soy sauce or wasabi as you're supposed to pick each piece up by hand and eat in a single bite. Additionally the chef will add fresh wasabi and soy sauce as needed to every sushi.

Google
Very awesome and curated experience. They take you through 17 courses and do a great job explaining the fish and its background. Sake pairing was really yummy as well. Chris (assistant mgr I believe) was super inviting. Afterwards they take you to the bar next door (which we made the mistake of going to first haha). The bar was also a great vibe and the GOAT CHEESE DRINK was to die for. Parking outside was easy ($10).

Yelp
We had our anniversary dinner here and it did not disappoint! The entrance wasn't hard to find because there was a sign next to the door. The waiting area is a bit rustic and small but we were greeted with a welcome champagne. The entire dinner party was not able to find seats. We were invited to the dining room right at our reservation time. Each bites of the 16 nigiris were truly amazing. We especially enjoyed the unique ways they were seasoned. The one nigiri that we weren't a fan of was a one that had strawberry jam. We were also sad with the amount of uni. Overall, a great experience and can see why people are hyped with sushi bar's omakase. Parking was easy to find and I was not able to find valet parking. May be it was at the front of the building. Nevertheless, we found meter parking which was perfect for our 2-hour dinner. The Ginger bar next door is your way out and looked very pretty to grab a quick drink!

Yelp
Loved our experience at Sushi Bar! I loved the intimate dining experience and I was very pleasantly surprised at the freshness, quality and the flavor of each and every one of the nigiri pieces! Moving back to Dallas from Seattle, I've been craving good sushi and omakase experience and Sushi Bar definitely has been my favorite omakase in the DFW area! Service was so great as well, felt very intimate and the sushi chefs did such an amazing job of explaining every piece. It's also connected to a cute cocktail bar so you can grab some drinks before or after your meal! I highly recommend making your reservation here and trying this place out! Can't wait to go back again!

Yelp
Decided to treat myself for the Lunar New Year - because I'm a Dragon - and I had an amazing experience! There's parking and valet but I Uber'd to the location. Upon arrival, I was served a cocktail and chose add on for the sushi. The seating is very intimate and you'll have a close view of the Chefs preparing the sushi. It's 17-courses and I choose to add caviar with the wagyu. Additionally, I opted for the "Flower" Chardonnay and later the "Snow Shadow" sake. Each piece was made with care and delicious with every bite! The experience ended with a sweet cream desert and I enjoyed the lightness of it. I look forward to returning once they establish their Dallas menu and trying out the delicious flavors the Chef's come up with!

Yelp
Fantastic experience. You must dine here. This was more an event than a meal. Everything was well planned from the gin and cucumber welcome cocktail to the menu board and seating. The chef's were efficient and interactive. The somalier was knowledgeable. The fish was exceptional and the combination of flavors were well thought out. I will be back. My only criticism is that the uni was from a box and not live. The photos do not do the sushi justice as the light was low.

Yelp
Did $165 omakase (16 different sushi, dessert and free welcome drink) with $35 truffle add on and $200 champagne pairing and a bone marrow Japanese whiskey shot at end (don't know how much shot was). Sushi was excellent and presentations by the chefs were great. They had 3 add ons for $35 each to different sushi ( caviar, truffle, foie gras). I did truffle which was not worth it in my opinion. Ordered an extra bottle of the Laurent Perrier champagne after the pairing. Still had half bottle left when dinner was done but we could take it to the bar next door to finish it. Only knock is I didn't get a copy of my bill. Called a couple of times but still haven't gotten it.

Yelp
Having been to Sushi Bar ATX, this location had the exact same interior setup, except this location was located in a basement. In terms of service and quality of food, both locations are very similar but in the ATX location, I was offered the option of 2 pieces of newly created sushi for more money, and that was a great option. I would recommend skipping the extra toppings on the sushi as I felt that they don't add much to the experience for the price they charged. If you want to experience a predominantly sushi omakase, then this is the best place I've been to so far in DFW. I brought my 2 kids to this place and they really enjoyed it and it was a very memorable experience for them.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful omakase sushi style experience. We did the 16 course meal and they were absolutely delicious. All the fish were fresh and very tasty. It's an almost 2 hour omakase with a very detail explanation of each sushi by the chef. The service was wonderful and great atmosphere. We will definitely return with more friends.

Yelp
Absolutely loved my omakase experience here! I've been to a few omakase experiences in Dallas, and this has to be one of my favorites! I love the whole name placard for each guest. They had a nice sake menu and had some add ons for guest (we didn't get any). The fish was incredibly fresh and the way they seasoned each course was absolutely phenomenal. The chefs were the best! They tried to make it somewhat interactive, but not make it uncomfortable, for anyone. Honestly, I thankfully had a very good group of people there. Some didn't really want to talk, while some others made friends with people nearby. It was a very fun experience, and I would definitely recommend it for everyone!

Yelp
Came here with my fiancé for Christmas Eve dinner. Everything was perfect- ambiance, food, drinks, service. They also have a bar that is connected to the restaurant called Ginger Bar. Both the restaurant and bar are underground. Recommend!

Yelp
This is a can't miss omakase experience! We had reservations for the 9:30pm seating on a Wednesday night - they recommended arriving 20 minutes prior so that you can select your add-ons prior to the dinner. Paid parking is literally 5 steps away, around the corner, but there is also valet. There is a fun speakeasy atmosphere and the dim lighting makes it feel more cozy and intimate- perfect for a date night (but not really for pictures, at least for an amateur like me). The chefs were fun and talkative, even encouraged conversation between the other guests. The food was magnificent- very unique flavor combinations (Madai with peach and cardamom jam, amberjack with jalapeño jam and black garlic, unagi fried in bone marrow) and incredibly fresh fish. I cannot stop thinking about how delicious the food was. I am incredibly sad that I cannot have this dinner more often - it is pricey! They have a few add-ons to choose from - I personally would skip the white truffle and foi gras (it was grated, not a thick slice so I didn't think it was worth the price) but I would recommend the caviar for the wagyu course. The portions of each course were nice as well. The dessert course was probably my least favorite, as I have just had better elsewhere, but it was delicious! Again, I wish I could afford to make this a regular dinner place. If you can, you should definitely try this omakase!

Yelp
I came here for my birthday, and I couldn't think of a better place to go. The chefs were personable, the quality of sushi was amazing, and they accommodated dietary restrictions perfectly. This has been my favorite omakase experience in Dallas. It was the perfect amount of food, and every bite was quality.

Yelp
Stop! If you read one thing today, make it this. This was not a dinner. This wasn't casual drinks. This is an EXPERIENCE! From the moment you walk up you start to feel the mystique and energy of the place. You're greeted and treated with nothing but class as you walk into the speakeasy-esque building. Your entire time is curated to enhance the ambiance of the event. Once seated, Chris, Nick, and Ben did everything they could to make our time there feel special. The knowledge, the theatrical presentations, the supreme quality.... Practically breathtaking. To be honest, I'm not normally a seafood lover. I was luckily invited for a celebration with friends. I was actually nervous I wasn't going to enjoy a thing. When I tell you every single bite changed my outlook on food I mean it. I literally woke up hoping to find just one more bite of the sushi from my dreams. In short, Sushi Bar in Dallas is the epitome of quality. If you decide not to go, that just leaves room for me to go back. Don't be dumb. Go. Thank me later.

Yelp
This is the best omakase experience I've ever had. Came here with my fiancé and the service was exceptional and incredibly friendly and fun. Each of the 16 courses was delectable, unique, and well thought out. The vibe was very cool as well. We really liked the style, music, and attention to detail. There are very few places quite like this in Dallas. I would highly recommend this for anyone who is a sushi fan!

Yelp
This is my first Yelp review ever. The sushi experience was amazing. The chefs were entertaining. The fish was incredible BUT the experimental pastrami nigiri was the star.

Yelp
My husband and I reserved this omakase experience for our 3rd wedding anniversary. From the moment we walked in, all the way to the moment we walked out, there was nothing to complain about. Everyone was kind, polite, and helpful. The ambiance was dimly lit, classy, and decorated in a pleasant and clean way. We were greeted with a complimentary chai tea champagne (?); I also ordered an alcoholic cocktail that contained orange zest, and my husband ordered a beer; the cocktails were well balanced and yummy . The 3 chefs were detail-oriented and well spoken. They also had fun personalities and were great conversationalists as if they were companions sharing a meal with us. We were given a cucumber salad with a mixture of ginger and radish (?); I much prefer that to just regular ginger as a palate cleanser. I appreciated the fresh ingredients such as the imported fish and wasabi from Japan and caviar from Norway. They checked for food allergies multiples times before the meal started and we were always informed of the components of each sashimi piece before we dug in. Sashimi was fresh, delicious and well balance with the other combined ingredients. Each piece had multiples layers of flavor that elevated the overall experience. I cannot forget it mention the delicious dessert for the night: coconut milk shaved ice paired with ice cream from the parlor. We will definitely come back for another occasion!

Yelp
Wrote a review and was pleased to see that a representative from the restaurant wanted me to reach out to discuss my experience. Shockingly, they never returned an email. I'm appalled by the customer service here. This is the first restaurant I've given a 1 star too. Every other review I've done is 5. Disappointed.

Yelp
The freshest fish, bright and conversattional sushi chefs. Bar makes great sake cocktails.

Cynthia J.

Yelp
The most creative omakase meal I've had! Each bite tasted very unique with different flavor combinations that I haven't had before. This is def a more creative spot as opposed to the traditional omakase where the taste of fish is more prominent. Overall, really enjoyed it here and thought it was a fun experience as well! They're located next to a speakeasy so very convenient to grab a drink right after making a great spot for date night!

Beth G.

Yelp
We went to this with complete open minds, my husband is a raw fish sushi lover and I am not so much. There was no way to accommodate me so if raw food isn't your thing then...steer clear. What I did eat was fresh and pretty good, but that was only about three bites out of the 17 total, and I was charged for it all because of how they plate and operate in the show of it all. My husband just got seconds. They were very professional and kind and let me know what to expect when I got there but had I known first I wouldn't have booked this. After our two experiences, drinks, and extra bites our meal was over 1k for the two of us. That was a surprise to us both. Over all lovely but won't have a need to do it again. It's a great why not if you time, tongue, taste, and treasure!

Yelp
Excellent all around. Expensive, but still a good value. This sentence is filler to meet the 85 character requirement.
