I finally made it here and it was outstanding! First, the basics. You must make reservations ahead of time for the Omakase Dinner (meaning chef's choice - the chef will decide what you eat). Second, the restaurant only seats 12 people, so they make the reservations staggered, and they are either serving 4 people at once, or 6 people at once. Third - be prepared to savor every bite. And fourth, you don't have to do the sake pairing with it; my friend and I just got 7 oz. sake on the side, and it was plenty.
We basically had 3 people waiting on us: the waiter; who took drink orders, Michael, I think an assistant chef, who presented all of our dishes to us, and explained in detail what we were eating, and finally, the Owner, who prepared most of our dishes, and answered questions. There was flawless teamwork, with removal and setting of courses, and the food descriptions were just as mouth-watering as the food itself was.
I lost track of how many courses we had, but they were split into appetizer, red fish, flavorful fish, and um... something else. Everything was plated uniquely and beautifully. I want to say we had about 17 little plates, with many of those plates being just one item. We had crab, tuna, benzina, cobia, salmon, Spanish mackerel, eel, beef wagyu, egg, and a scallop - just to name a few of the offerings.
A few dishes were made up of more than one item, for example quail egg, roe, root vegetable, and sea urchin, that we were instructed on how best to enjoy it. Very few of the items served were sourced locally; they got shipments from Japan two times a week.
A five out of five experience all the way around and even though it's expensive, you definitely deserve to treat yourself to this!
