The 38 Best Restaurants in Milwaukee, Wisconsin | Eater

"There’s Chinese food in Milwaukee and then there’s Sze Chuan. Word has spread quickly about the West Allis cult favorite, inspiring spice-seekers to make the trek away from the lake to enjoy cumin pork knuckles, dry pot intestine, sauteed spare ribs, pork kidney, or any of the many things from the massive menu doused in tongue-numbing, mind-altering Sichuan peppercorns. Know before you go: If the menu seems daunting, take cues from neighboring tables. The regulars know what’s good." - Todd Lazarski

After living in Asia and reading reviews, I was eager to try Sze Chuan. This is one of very few places that has crispy squid with chili. It was excellent. I ordered the spicy dumplings that were tender and flavorful with garlic, though the broth was very soy forward. I was first delighted to see & order and then absolutely horrified attempting to eat the dry chili chicken. The flavor is exactly as it should be, but there is no chicken, except TINY TINY fingernail size BITS that are so rubberized you'll pick them out of your teeth for weeks. I advised that the ratio of pepper to tiny chicken was an unpleasant error and was advised, "That's how we make it." (And although I didn't eat, but 3 bits was charged full price). I watched nearly every other table eating orange or sesame chicken and cannot for the life of me figure out why they would not use the same NORMAL size chicken pieces. (And when you see the photo, ya gotta ask why they waste so much pepper.) Each main dish comes with white rice, but I was served only one and had to request the second.

Google
This is a 4.0-4.5 for me. The good is closer to authentic food than Americanized versions. The flavors might not fit what you typically expect from Midwest takeout… With that being said. Everything we had always good. The kung pao chicken was delightfully sweet and funky and slightly sour. The dry pot ribs were very well seasoned. The fried rice was good, but a little too moist for my preference. It was more of a hibachi moisture level rather than a traditional fried rice. The lo mein was decent, but not exceptional. The dumpling appetizers were quite good. The restaurant is a little on the small side and it smells of roasted garlic and sesame oil. The service was good.

Google
Cramped Chinese restaurant that flips tables pretty quick. Service is ok, they don't really have time to wait on you hand and foot, or to clean empty dishes off of your table before they bring more. Food is ok. We had the General Tso chicken, brazed pork belly, vegetable lomein, black bean noodles, some tofu dish my wife wanted, and pot stickers. General Tso and pork belly were ok, I didn't like anything else. My wife liked everything a little bit, but nothing really special about it. We did both agree on the pot stickers - they were handmade but the dough was really thick and off-putting. Rating 3-stars for my wife because she said she'd go back. I, however, would not.

Google
Without a doubt, the best Chinese restaurant in Milwaukee. Don't miss out on the regional specialties. I particularly enjoy the basil eggplant, and any of the Chow Fun noodle dishes. The Chow Fun noodles are cooked at a high heat which imparts a smoky and slightly charred flavor. The entrees have a good level of spice and all of the produce and meats are top quality. One of my favorite restaurants I've ever dined at. If any of you remember the old East Garden on Oakland, this is a worthy successor.

Google
This is my top-rated Asian restaurant, and I can't count how many times I've been here. I've recommended it to many friends, family members, and even people from out of town. Whenever we host or eat with groups, we always come here. I've tried so many of their dishes, and I've never been disappointed. If you want authentic Asian food, not the Americanized version, this is the place to go. If you want my dish recommendations, here are a few favorites I always order: * 013 Beef Tendon in Chili Sauce (麻辣牛筋) * 049 Braised Pork Belly (糯香红烧肉) * Kung Pao Chicken (宮保雞) * Salted Fried Fish * Mapo Tofu or Tofu Stone Pot Most of their appetizers are also delicious, and they serve the food very quickly. If you can't eat spicy food, I recommend asking before you order. Some dishes are spicier than what you might find at most American Asian food restaurants. For example, the Mongolian Beef is spicier than usual.

Google
Zero doubt this is a 5 star establishment. Sure, maybe you could argue the atmosphere isn’t 5 stars, but honestly, who cares? The food is out of this world. Their menu has literally a couple hundred options so going there for the first time can be overwhelming, but our server was extremely helpful and we even chatted with the people sitting next to us and got some excellent suggestions. Beef wraps, Beef Chow Fun, sliced beef and chili pepper soup (very spicy), and green beans. If you like hot, definitely try the soup, but honestly everything was incredible. Been thinking about going back all weekend and we were just there on Friday. Definitely going back within the week.

Google
Finally decided to try this place and was Not disappointed. Spicy pork dumplings were different.. maybe a subtle fish flavor? Quite oily - still very good! (Used the oil to spice my rice). Mongolian Beef was really great, although it had onions only (thought I saw Jalapenos in other photos). The beef quality was good, not chewy or fatty. Can't beat one dollar hot tea. Had enough left over to take a small box home. As Arnold said, "I'll be back!"

Google
Place is always packed when I go in for pick up, but food is never delayed. I've noticed they have different variations in how a certain dish is cooked based on who is in the kitchen, but it's always good. Portions are always good and it's always packed with flavor. If you want a dish at a different level of spice they will do it for you. Definitely one of my favorite places to eat in MKE.

Yelp
The service, food, and atmosphere of this restaurant are all great! We stopped in here yesterday to pick up some food to go. Every interaction we had with staff members was friendly. They were also patient while we tried to figure out what to order. The restaurant itself was clean and very nicely decorated with lovely canvas screen prints on the walls, hanging Chinese lanterns, and tasteful table cloths. I would love to dine in, next time! The food was really tasty and reminiscent of the year we spent teaching English in China. We tried the Dan Dan noodles based on previous reviews and we were not disappointed! I wish I would have gotten two orders of this dish. We also tried the sliced potatoes in vinegar, the string green beans, and the scallion pancake which are dishes we've searched for and rarely find around Milwaukee. Lastly, we got the General Tso's Chicken. I would not recommend the scallion pancake which was dried out (though the flavor was fantastic!). I would also not recommend the General Tso's chicken, as it was overly sweet. Everything else was very, very good. I can't wait to return to try more food!

Yelp
Came for Saturday lunch. Place was busy but we got seated immediately. Portions are great, very shareable. Green beans are the best in the city and have such good flavor. The pork chow was decent, but I would maybe try a different main dish next time. Crispy tofu was new, and it was cooked perfectly. Flavor was good but wish it had a light sauce to dip in. Overall very good and hits that craving.

Yelp
Amazing experience! Our service was fast and the servers were very nice. The restaurant is overall nice with nice tableware and real chopsticks (not the flimsy disposable wooden ones). We ordered the crab Rangoon and veggie rolls for an appetizer, which we loved! The dipping sauce is 10/10. My friend and I tried their stone pot, which was a fun experience but a tad spicer than the server explained it would be and had more of a Tabasco sauce heat to it. Their General Tso's chicken had some heat to it too and was so good. My favorite dish that our table shared was their chicken Lo Mein! A classic dish done super well with great flavor. Overall, we had a great experience and will come back!

Yelp
Don't know how this place has such good reviews. Service is mediocre. Food took forever. Eventually received our rice but not our main entree. No plates were cleared after appetizers so the table was a mess. Food we did receive was nothing special. After too long cancelled the order and left. They even screwed up the bill and that took too long. Amateur hour. Not impressed.

Carol V.

Yelp
The food and service were excellent. Ordered eggplant with garlic sauce and stone pot chicken. The sauces on each dish were so flavorful.

Yelp
Wasn't memorable. Just okay food. Service was fine and the place was clean and low-key at the time.

Yelp
A favorite place for "authentic" flavors/choices, with very fast service and reasonable prices. Today I thought I'd try the recommended by my dietician, Kung Pao (large pieces of chicken, low potassium veggies). Not so. Chicken was breaded crap, very small sinewy, stringy pieces. Flavor was good, but I assume that the lunch price (9.95) vs. the regular menu Kung Pao ($14.95) is the reason. In any case, don't bother with the Kung Pao lunch special. Crap.

Yelp
Sze Chuan is an authentic restaurant, duly serving good dishes from the Southwest of China. Many of the diners were Chinese, a good sign in any restaurant serving food from the world's most populated country. Service was poor at first but improved as time went by. We ordered the House Special Dry Pot, Homestyle Tofu, Spicy Pork Dumpling, and Shrimp with vegetables. I loved the dumplings, shrimp and tofu. The Dry Pot was not enjoyed by my spouse. Asking for mild spiciness was the correct move. Sze Chuan Restaurant is located in a West Allis strip mall with several Asian businesses. You will dine on authentic food in a modest space. I loved it, and my bottle of sake was the perfect partner to every dish. No spirits are served at Sze Chuan, only beer and wine. There is no bar. I will return soon.

Yelp
If you're looking for an authentic Chinese restaurant experience this is your spot. The menu has a plethora of options from hot pot to noodles and all in between. We ordered a mix of dishes, the dumplings were delicious, we shared the garlic beef and kung pou. I'm already dreaming of coming back to try other dishes! There's traditional style tables and the service is quick!

Yelp
Came by for dinner. Ambiance is cozy, service was fair and food was memorable. Serving sizes were all family style and all of our dishes tasted distinctive. Very please, we will be back. Our highlights were the chicken soup, garlic eggplant and fried rice.

Yelp
I'm pleasantly surprised there's a really good Szechuan place. Takeout was super easy. The inside looks pretty spacey. I got the spicy pork dumplings and shrimp and broccoli and both were so good. My only regret is not asking for more spicy!
google avatar

Stephanie G.

Yelp
Maybe we ordered the wrong things but we ordered a pickup dinner for the family on Thanksgiving night after picking everyone up from the airport. We ordered wonton soup, broccoli beef, chicken with snow peas, and white rice. It was ALL mostly flavorless and simply not that good. I've heard such good things about this restaurant, I was surprised by this experience. The food was fresh and the portions were good, just the flavor was off. I won't be coming back.
google avatar

Yelp
I am surprised that I have yet written a review of Sze Chuan after visiting them shortly after they opened their doors and more often during the last few months. One of my first time here was with two of my friends, of one who is of Chinese descent. According to my friend, this may be the only place in the area that is authentic Chinese food. With the selection of food, perhaps its better to eat with a group of friends so you may be able to try out the plentitute of food optios offered here.
google avatar

Taylor D.

Yelp
Like any solid authentic spot this place isn't trendy or in a popping location. Located in a strip mall the outside is modest but it inside the atmosphere is busy and the fragrances are profound. We went on a Saturday night and waited probably 30-40min for a table. Service was no nonsense and no fuss. You got seated when you got seated. If you're someone who needs hand holding this isn't the place. After seating service was prompt. We order hot and sour soups, pork chile wantons, chicken lo mein, dry pepper chicken, mapo tofu, and general tso's chicken. Portions were excellent and flavors were great. Our total bill was around $90 and we have enough leftovers for dinner tomorrow. We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Jiyao H.

Yelp
Friends said it was one of the two actual authentic Chinese restaurants in town. The other being a northern style one. The food quality is consistently good, but the spiciness is not very consistent, so might want to clarify how spicy you want the dishes to be when ordering.
google avatar

Chay L.

Yelp
This restaurant really serves authentic Szechuan food. The dishes I ordered really didn't disappoint. Great taste and really spicy. It's not like the other restaurants where some tuned down the spice level to suit consumers that are not accustomed to real Szechuan spicy food. If you are looking for authentic Szechuan spicy food, I would strongly recommend this place.
google avatar

Justin L.

Yelp
I'd say Sze Chuan is hands down the best Chinese food in the greater Milwaukee area. Super authentic! Great flavors and even better spice. We got the egg rolls, spicy pork dumplings, cucumber salad, Mongolian beef, fried rice, and the crispy chicken in garlic sauce (not pictured). We left in a food coma with leftovers to eat later and remember just how great of a place it is.
google avatar

Aaron B.

Yelp
I love this place, visit at least once a week for take out or dine in, real authentic Chinese food. Best in the city, possible best in the whole state!
google avatar

Tell T.

Yelp
My husband and I were excited to taste the food given all the wonderful reviews. But, as he stated, it seems like they just use one sauce and one flavor. And it's hot and overwhelms the other tastes. I can't comment on whether that's authentic or not. I just know it is not very good
google avatar

Kushal D.

Yelp
It was amazing. We came for hot pot and it was delicious, spicy, and reminded me of being back in Chongqing. They had lotus root which is super hard to find and the food was quite flavorful. Portions were extremely generous and we loved the half and half option. We had no need to do the second ayce round. I can't wait to come back for other menu items, but I might always end up with hot pot. The only negative is that it gets super busy and you can't make a rezo so you kind of have to time it right or come later in the evening.
google avatar

Alex S.

Yelp
This place makes all of my dumpling dreams come true! Online ordering is simple and seamless. I placed an order at 5:15 and my order was hot and ready by 5:30. The restaurant is located in a small strip mall that has ample parking. The moment you walk in you are welcomed by the aroma of chilies. The staff were attentive even though the restaurant was already busy with their dinner crowd. I quickly glanced around & saw many tables had opted for the hot pot. The staple, must have item for me are the szechuan pork dumplings; the perfect amount of spice, texture, and umami. This time I tried the wonton noodle soup which was tasty on its own, but I added some chili oil to give it a little kick. The Shanghai greens were just an order of braised bok choy, which I love, but lacked any exciting flavor compared to the other items I've eaten. I can't wait to go back and try something new!

Lori Ann R.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere and good service. There was an extensive menu. Prices and serving sizes were okay - nothing too outrageous but nothing to write home about. My stone pot tofu was temperature HOT but fairly tasteless. We also had shrimp with garlic sauce. The color of the sauce was exceptionally bright. The taste was good with just a hint of kick. The crab rangoon were filled well, tasted good and had a nice sauce served with them. Not a great place but fits the bill if you want a quick Asian meal.
google avatar

Marjorie F.

Yelp
As a relatively recent transplant to MKE, I was so happy to finally find some decent Chinese food. My foodie cousins did not steer me wrong. Not only did they have "American" faves, but for those of us who also enjoy authentic flavors, there are plenty of options. So far I have tried the crab rangoon, egg rolls, potstickers, egg drop soup, beef with broccoli, mayo tofu, chicken fried rice, sautéed string beans, and Dan Dan noodles. No complaints on anything! Everything was delicious. My fave has to be the Dan Dan noodles and sautéed string beans. Service was fast and friendly. I was impressed that they were not overwhelmed by my big family. We didn't have to wait long to eat. This place is very casual. Great for families. I will definitely be back and will try other dishes - especially with a little spice to warm me up this winter!
google avatar

Davina R.

Yelp
My favorite place to go for HOT POT in milwaukee! The half & half flavored broths are so flavorful. The spicy side is my favorite but the regular side offers nice relief if it's too spicy. The thin sliced lamb is my favorite meat, but the fatty beef also has a ton of flavor. This is definitely a smaller restaurant with only a few tables so expect to wait if you want sit down service. But It's worth the wait! It starts getting really packed after 6-630pm. Casual vibe and no dress code, so no need to get too fancy. That's something that I really love about this place.
google avatar

Max S.

Yelp
This place is still outstanding everytime. I am updating the review because we received additional menu items that were outstanding. The spicy dumplings on the appetizer menu are by far the best I have eaten. Nothing comes close to the perfect spice level and sauce. I should have placed 10 orders of them. The shrimp lo mein was great along with the general Tao chicken.

Tattooed G.

Yelp
Exceptional authentic Szechuan dishes. Prompt service. Noisy during the dinner rush. Try the Fei Ting fish!

Yelp
I found this restaurant several weeks ago when I did a google search. I then checked the reviews on Yelp and was excited to try it out. I have been here several times and also brought my sister, brother-in-law and mother here. My sister, brother-in-law and I came today for Christmas, of course, joking about how they went out for Chinese on Christmas in "A Christmas Story". I have tried several different dishes in the past and everything I have had has been very good. Kung Pao Chicken, Sesame Chicken, General Tso's Chicken to name a few. Tonight I had the Mongolian Beef and a small hot and sour soup. The Mongolian Beef was absolutely delicious! My favorite dish yet and the best Mongolian Beef that I have ever had anywhere! The flavor was incredible! I have never had anything here that wasn't very good! We all shared a little of our meals and the sweet and sour chicken and braised pork belly were both fantastic as well! They were absolutely slammed with people as all the tables were full and they had a line to the door with people waiting for takeout or for a table. I recommend trying to go early or later from the traditional meal times as they are very often a busy place! If you have never tried this restaurant, I highly recommend checking it out! Their fruit smoothies are VERY popular as well! The one pictured is a large watermelon. Sorry, I should have taken photo when it was full, but they are so good I couldn't wait!

Sara M.

Yelp
The very first time I went there, I chose to carryout my order. The crab rangoon was possibly the best I've ever had in my life! I thought the food was delicious. The woman who took my order (who I think was the manager) was very rude when I asked a simple question. She even walked away while I was ordering to go check on a table nearby. I will go back for the food but I would say the service was awful.
google avatar

Nava L.

Yelp
I've heard such great things and had to try it out myself! To start we for the green beans, crab rangoons, and spring rolls. They were all amazing!! Really great start. We then got noodles and orange chicken. The chow funn noodles were really good and it seemed like the noodles may have even been handmade. The orange chicken had a bit too much breading and came out kinda neon orange, which was a little weird. While we loved everything else the orange chicken wasn't quite worth it. After reading more reviews I think if I go back I'd get something else instead! The service was overall fast and the staff were kind and helpful.

Jason H.

Yelp
I stopped in for my birthday last night after reading rave reviews, and since my friends were unable to join me, I was by myself. Big mistake. I'm not the kind of person who typically takes the time to complain in reviews, but I'm sorry, that was the chilliest service I've ever received in a restaurant. I felt like a bother. This is one of those places that will do nothing to make you feel welcome and make it clear that you're wasting their time if you don't have anyone with you. Add in the "$8 extra for hot pot if you're alone", which made me feel so much better about an already sad and lonely birthday. Thanks for that. The food was alright (spicy pork dumplings are great), but it was certainly nothing to make a drive for, and they could greatly enhance the dining experience by dimming the light and adding some atmosphere, so that it doesn't feel like eating in a telemarketing office. As always, I would have tipped an appropriate amount, but that choice was made for me, as I was never even offered my change.
google avatar

Kaitlynn M.

Yelp
I have been dying to try this restaurant for YEARS! I have seen so many positive reviews about it and the sad truth is, I just don't go out to West Allis all that often (it's like 15 minutes and now that I have tried this place, I will be there more often!). We were able to order over the phone for pickup (you can also order online) and the whole thing was just very efficient. We were told 20 mins our food would be ready and it was. This was shocking to me because when we got in the restaurant, on a Wednesday night mind you, every single table was full! I could not believe it. But after trying the food, I get it. Based on the Yelp reviews and photos, we ordered the Mapo Tofu, the spicy pork dumplings and the eggplant in garlic sauce. ALL so good! Huge portions and the total was less than $40. My personal favorite was the eggplant, but I am a spice wimp and the other two had quite the kick. I really recommend giving it a try if you have not been yet.

Shelby G.

Yelp
Too pricey and not the best customer service Menus don't match what they actually charge you for.
google avatar

Zachary B.

Yelp
Best traditional Chinese food around! In fact my girlfriend's mom who is from China and lives in LA says this is one of her top 5 ever! Great spice some dishes have that nice spices flavor and some are just spicy! They do have some Americanized dishes for those you are less adventurous. No one is really going to check up on you to often so don't be afraid to ask for more rice or water it is just how it is.
google avatar

Sandy N.

Yelp
Sze Chuan has yet to disappoint. It is my go to for take out and family style dine in. I try to order one new dish every time I eat here. My latest new finds are Cold Noodle in House Chili Sauce and Beef Stone Pot. I loved the cold noodles and it was the perfect starter for a group of 5. The beef stone pot was a fun surprise. It is served bubbling in a stone pot. The sauce is little sour but has a pleasant thickness. The beef was very tender. My must have order-- Sautéed String Beans - you need to order a vegetable and these green beans are blistered beautifully from the wok Mapo Tofu w Pork - my favorite mapo tofu comes from here, the fermented black beans are addicting Fish Filet Sautéed with Salted Egg Yolk Paste - you will not find this dish anywhere in Wisconsin. If you love salted egg yolk flavor you will love this crispy fish. It is a very unique and worth a try! This restaurant gets pretty busy on the weekend with dine in and take out and I was glad I made a reservation. Give this place a try if you haven't yet!

Tim R.

Yelp
After discovering South East Asian cuisine, Chinese took a backseat for the past 30 years. However, Sze Chuan is far better than I remember typical American Chinese food to be. They have a large menu and it is difficult to know what you are ordering, but it always turns out to be good if not interesting. Today, I had the Thai Basil Eggplant. It was fried eggplant with some basil and vegetable oil. Probably not Thai apart from the type of basil. The smoothie was delicious. The vegetable deep fried roll was a bit oily and had an odd taste in the oil. All in all, Sze Chuan isn't good to move the needle on my preference for Burmese, Thai, Cambodian or Indonesian cuisine. But, my father likes it and it works fairly good for me here in a town with really weak choices for quality Asian fare.
google avatar

Phil B.

Yelp
Great place and food! Exactly like the places I've beee. In China. Service was great and the atmosphere was legit.

Alan M.

Yelp
Most authentic Chinese food in the Milwaukee area, hands down. Spicy dumplings are a must.

Joyce H.

Yelp
We enjoy Asian food. This is the best we have found in the area since moving here 3 years ago. I highly recommend.

Enrique P.

Yelp
One of the best and most authentic Chinese restaurants I've been to in a long time. The food is fantastic and great quality. The menu has almost everything you want from a good Chinese place. Their spicy sze chuan dumplings are as real as it gets.
google avatar

Leonardo T.

Yelp
Service feels rushed and ambiance is bustling. I came from out of the country so I know this is a the usual authentic Chinese restaurant. The secret is out that this is the best Chinese restaurant in Milwaukee. Luckily I will be leaving town soon so I don't have to wait for authentic Chinese food. Per usual everything is incredible from mapo tofu, Dan Dan noodles, salted egg fish and if you are brave enough, get the sautéed intestine
google avatar

Yelp
We happened to be visiting the Milwaukee area and I was really craving some authentic Sichuan Chinese food. I'm so glad we decided to try this place out because everything we ordered was fantastic. I can't say there was a single dish we did not like. We were pleasantly surprised at how fast the food came out. For the appetizer, we ordered their Ox Tendon & Maw in Spicy Chili Sauce (savory and spicy), for mains we ordered their Mapo Tofu (delicious, spicy and numb-y), Pork Intestine & Blood Cake (rich and spicy), Dry Chili Chicken (fried and crispy with a kick), Sautéed String Beans (seasoned well and perfectly cooked), and Sliced Potatoes (tasty and comforting). All the spicy dishes were not too overwhelmingly spicy, which I appreciated because that meant we could still taste other flavors. However, the spicy dishes still had more than enough kick if you are a fan of and can handle spicy foods. This place was so good we actually went back for lunch a couple days later. We got their Eggplant in Garlic Sauce (flavorful and a bit tangy) and Dan Dan noodles (nutty and earthy with a kick). This place is located in a strip mall so parking is very convenient. Service was fast and casual. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Lilian X.

Yelp
As I talk in, the smell instantly reminds me of home. Glancing around the room, such diverse group of people with smiles. This is, in my opinion, THE most authentic Chinese restaurant in Greater Milwaukee area. I love taking my friends here to experience real Chinese food!!
google avatar

Sophie Y.

Yelp
Our meal at Momo Mee was terrible where we decided to try out Szechuan. We had the seafood tofu in hot stone pot, scallion lamb, spareribs and garlic eggplants. I LOVE the tofu in the hot stone pot and the lambs were wonderful. Spareribs and eggplants were ok. This was our 1st time here and it's in the same shopping center as Mei Hua grocery store. The waitress was friendly and suggested those dishes. They also offer hot pot and perhaps we'll try it next time. We're new to WI from Houston, TX and are quite pleased at the quality of food from here. It's a shame that it takes more than 75 minutes to get here but we can do that once a month since it's worth it!
google avatar

Julianna D.

Yelp
Set in a strip mall with a great Asian store. I have heard about Sze Chuan from some lamb lovers but never had the time to go check it out. Since I was shopping for ingredients, decided to stop by and try the restaurant. Since then have gone back twice. The restaurant is not fancy and somewhat hectic, but the food is delicous. I have yet to try the hot pot, but tried the dry pot and they are delicious (chicken and some lamb). I am a fan of egg drop soup and it was silky as expected. The portions are hearty and the flavors abudant. The service is a bit hectic - sometimes you have to ask for things twice, but the intentions are good.

Carrie K.

Yelp
What a find! This restaurant looks unassuming in a small strip mall, but when I stepped inside I could already tell that this place is different from your typical hole-in-the-wall Chinese place. They have really nice photos on the walls and the space is pleasant. What really got me excited, though, was the menu. I saw dishes I hadn't had since living in China, like tu do si, shredded potatoes with vinegar and chiles. They had a hot chili fish soup that we used to order in China. The cold siquan noodles, dan dan mian and other dishes were delicious and authentic. They also have more classic "American" Chinese food dishes so there is something for everyone. And the staff was really nice!

Yelp
I don't get Chinese food as often as I would like to, but I like trying different places out when I do. This place looked small, so I called the day before to see if they could handle a table of 10. We got there just in time to get a table large enough for what ended up being 9 of us. It was already busy and quite loud, so extra points to the waiters for catching everything. There were a few complaints at our table- they couldn't substitute fried rice for the white rice that came with meals; the chicken and snap peas were bland; the chicken and broccoli needed extra seasoning- but this review is based solely on my personal opinion of the food. I ordered the crab rangoon as an appetizer, crispy chicken in garlic sauce, and a glass of riesling. My main dish and one other friend's came out later than everyone elses by a bit, but everything was really hot and as I said before they were busy with both dine in guests and carryout orders. I thought everything was delicious. It's too far from my home or I'd have them deliver to me on a regular basis.

Yelp
The food is great - especially if you love authentic Szechuan. The service could be better. The female servers are kind and competent, but some of the others are not. I've been taking my large family here every month or two and generally spending about $150, and always tipping 20%. Today we were in. After placing the order, I specified, "no water chestnuts in anything, please." The young male server nodded but didn't write it down, so, I repeated, trying to look him in the eye: "No water chestnuts in the dishes." Again, he did not write this down, and, frankly, could not have seemed less interested. The food came, with entrees arriving without the hot pepper sauce I'd asked for at ordering, without getting any silverware, and (as usual) with appetizers coming *last* rather than first (as appetizers are supposed to). And - water chestnuts. Lots. This is the kind of place that does not need to have exceptional service, because the food is great, and they do tons of business. That is why I do not expect exceptional service, only adequate service. We won't be back for some time, I think.

Yelp
Wow, this problem is the best meal to top our after-Christmas vacation. There is tiny Asian strip mall outside of Milwaukee which has several interesting stores from bakery, grocery, and this restaurant. This restaurant was packed when we picked up our take-out. We ordered off the menu based on what sounded good- mapo tofu with ground pork and sauteed lamb with scallions. We came home to enjoy a feast which we also enjoyed the next day for breakfast. This certainly beat hotel breakfast anyday:)
