The 36 Best Restaurants In Chinatown - Chicago - The Infatuation

"This is the newest stall in the Richland Center food court. And like a magician’s sleeve stuffed with Szechuan food instead of scarves, the variety of dishes coming out of their tiny kitchen is breathtaking. The menu is incredibly long, with dishes ranging from dan dan noodles and kung pao chicken to spicy frog and sesame balls. Everything we’ve ordered has a wonderful amount of mouth-numbing spice, and if you eat there, your spicy shrimp will be plated on an actual metal serving platter instead of a plastic dish." - adrian kane, john ringor

The Best Restaurants in Chinatown Chicago | Eater Chicago

"Another standout in HeungSeng Square, this spice-forward stall serves up familiar dishes — dan dan noodles, chili chicken — along with more adventurous options like pork intestines and frog. Hidden gems in Chinatown are few and far between, but Szechuan Bistro is certainly among them." - Jeffy Mai

The 23 Best Chinese Restaurants In Chicago - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Richland Center's underground food court in Chinatown has plenty of outstanding stalls, but nowhere makes us more excited to eat in a basement than Szechuan Bistro. Everything from the long menu involving mouth-numbing peppers is pungent and a good reminder that we’re still capable of feeling something. Our favorite dish is the house special boiled fish. It's flaky and comes in a massive tray of bubbling scarlet broth, like a chili pepper jacuzzi. If you’re looking for more spice-induced endorphins, the frog, dan dan noodles, or the boneless chicken in chili sauce are also worth checking out." - john ringor, adrian kane

Where To Eat In Richland Center - Chicago - The Infatuation

"For lovers of spice, look no further than Szechuan Bistro. And though the menu is long, it’s impossible to screw up when everything involving mouth-numbing peppers is delicious. The house special boiled fish is flaky and comes in a massive metal tray full of broth, like a chili pepper jacuzzi. Dishes like the spicy frog, dan dan noodles, or the juicy boneless chicken in chili sauce are also fantastic." - john ringor, adrian kane

Mapo tofu and scallion pancakes have long been on my bucket list and I was happy to see both of them on the same menu. Both were absolutely delicious, the mapo tofu wasn't very spicy but definitely mouth numbing as you'd expect from Sichuan cuisine and the portion was MASSIVE. The scallion pancakes were very nice as well, although a bit tough. Came here starving and left full and with like a kilogram of food left, got it to go and the lady at the register was super nice and fun to talk to. Overall great place, would love to try the other dishes when I get to visit again next week. Until then I will be enjoying the leftovers for the next 2 days 🫃🫃

Mouth watering chicken was off the chain good. Noodles were mediocre. Service was a little slow even though it was lunch rush.

I’ve ordered from this place before and it was fine, but this time the food was extremely salty — to a level that’s impossible for a normal person to eat. I called the restaurant to let them know, but their attitude was very poor and they refused to offer a refund. Very disappointed.

Very recommend a Sichuan food, each kind of food taste is different, each has its own taste, the food is served quickly, the meal bowl is very delicate, send a bowl of rice. If you can't finish the meal, you can pack it. Ask the store for a free takeout box. Go ahead and try it. You'll want to eat it again

Had their 沸腾活鱼 and it was delicious! You can definitely taste the freshness of the fish filet plus the whole dish was spicy and flavorful. Do not let the location (basement of the mall) and the appearance of the store fool you, they make some delicious Szechuan dishes.

Long wait time!! Go early!! Weekdays Came on a Thursday afternoon around 4pm. We only ordered 2 entrees and it was over 30 min wait and this was before the dinner rush hour! After we got our food it became very packed around 5-7pm. We ordered spicy crawfish $20 you get a nice portion. It was semi spicy and semi sweet. We also ordered the chefs special stir fried pork $15 but I was disappointed it did not look like the picture featured at all. I couldn't tell if it was pieces of bacon or thinly sliced pork belly. It really tasted like bacon slices though. I asked for it to be very little spice but of course it came out spicy but all of their entrees are. I was able to tolerate it with the rice and lots of water. So if you cannot handle heat, I would not recommend!! I did notice that everyone was ordering their spicy fish which comes out on some kind of hot plate with open flame. It looked absolutely delicious with the fresh greens on top! Even though Im not a fan of spicy food, I wouldn't mind trying the fish cuz it looked good!! Just not sure I'll return bc there was a large rat we saw above the ceiling and the table near us saw it too and asked if we did as well. 🥴 But this is rat city isn't it? Anyways, I had to share so people are aware before dining at any food stand in the food court. Overall, I had to dock a star for the long wait time, and a star bc she made it spicy even though I asked for it too be very little spice and bc I couldn't tell if I was eating bacon or pork belly, strange. Come early or you'll be waiting a long time. 🙄

I got the kung pao chicken, scallion pancakes. Highly recommended - sauce was delicious!! Chicken was uniformly cut, and tender. Sauce again was really good - that makes the dish. Prepared quickly and perfectly. Nice and spicy. This is where the Asians go for a great quick meal in Chinatown.

This is the one of the BEST Szechuan food in Chinatown I have tried so far!! They just opened a month ago, and I have had their food four times already, three times dine-in and one time delivery. Last Saturday, I tried their peppercorn fish fillet, 藤椒活鱼. This is one of the most awesome fish dishes I ever tried!! I bet this restaurant would be popular even if it were located in China. I dreamed of the fish for an entire week. I tried to come over Wednesday night, but I heard they would be closed on Wednesdays. On Thursday, I didn’t have time to pick the bones out of the peppercorn fish fillet, so I ordered the Sichuan spicy boiled beef(Shui zhu niu水煮牛) delivered to me. I highly recommend this dish too. I needed to wrap up fast Friday night, so I ordered the house special kung pao chicken, 宫保鸡丁. It’s hard to describe how great it was. I nearly cried because of being homesick. I came back again quickly for my dream peppercorn fish and recommended my boyfriend the kung pao chicken. He liked it very much too. For someone who doesn’t know, peppercorn fish is a little spicy, Sichuan spicy boiled fish is spicy, and kung pao chicken is sweet. Plus: it’s a very fair price to have their food, especially considering how amazing their food quality is. The owner said their cook was trained in one of the most traditional and popular Szechuan restaurant in Beijing, e mei jiu jia, 峨眉酒家 for over ten years. I didn’t believe so until I tried these recipes. People from Beijing would definitely feel the hometown flavor. I deeply believe everyone will like their food.
