"After the success of Surbhi Sahni’s online sweets shop during the pandemic, she opened Tagmo as a full-service Indian restaurant and retail store in the Seaport District in 2021; I learned its restaurant side is closing on December 31. Sahni told Resy it’s been amazing to create new food and she’ll miss seeing her neighbors regularly, but she plans to keep serving the community by moving desserts like badam narangi, chocolate burfi, pistachio burfi, and besan ladoo back online. A spokesperson clarified that while the restaurant is shutting down, Sahni intends to keep the space to expand the sweets side of the business and will continue operating under the Tagmo name." - Emma Orlow
"After years of working behind the scenes in kitchens across the city, Chef Surbhi Sahni strikes out on her own with this cute FiDi nook within earshot of the South Street Seaport. The brick-and-mortar opening comes after operating as an online-only confections shop in 2019 and later pivoting to meal delivery. At the front, find her sweet, jewel-like mithai in colorful gift boxes alongside South Asian cookbooks and condiments. In the back, dinner is less like a night out and more like a warm invitation into her home. The plant-forward menu offers homey, comforting dishes from across all regions of India. Highlights include Maharashtrian crispy tapioca cakes; Delhi street salad; and pan-fried fish crusted in rice flour, whole red chilies and ginger." - Michelin Inspector
"From November 8 through 12, chef Surbhi Sahni will serve a five-course, prix fixe menu for Diwali with the flavors of Punjab, where she’s from, and Bengal, where her partner is from. “For this menu, I’ve picked a mix of Piali’s favorite Bengali dishes and some of my Punjabi childhood classics,” she says. It’s $85 per ticket and includes vegetarian and meat-based choices. Mithai is also available in various sizes and prices at the restaurant and online starting at $35." - Robert Sietsema, Melissa McCart
