As a pescatarian, I was delighted to find this cart in Hawthorne Asylum. There are multiple options for the fish & chips, of which I chose cod. I also ordered a cup of clam chowder.
The Tall Boy Slider looks really good, and one day I'll be back to try it, but it was off putting to me that the cook was touching his phone and then handling food without at least sanitizing first. I decided to go for foods that either didn't need to be directly touched or that would be fried in hot oil before being served to me.
The fish and chips was really good! I still haven't found any that compare to Luna Sea Fish House in Yachats (try it), but these really hit the spot! I got a two piece and thought I would likely still be hungry, which is why I ordered the chowder. Boy, was I wrong. The fish, though small pieces, were thick. I really felt like I was getting my money's worth of fish, but I also prefer a little more coating to fish ratio. The coating was tasty and crunchy, though, even when taken to go so I am overall satisfied! The fries are well coated in a salt and pepper seasoning that I thought was excellent, as I am a huge fan of highly-seasoned fries.
The chowder is flavorful and doesn't even have bacon! It's been a long time since I've come across a good restaurant chowder without it. Like I said, the fish was really filling so I didn't even end up eating much chowder and will eat it for lunch. If I hadn't anticipated needing more food, this would've been a very inexpensive meal that I am thoroughly satisfied with.
I'll be back for that slider and definitely have to try more items.
