Casual BYOB restaurant featuring creative sushi rolls, bento boxes & other Japanese fare.
"This is the original Tanoshii Sushi Mike’s, not the one in the West Loop. And while both have quality sushi, the original is our favorite location when we want a quiet place that lets us bring our own liquor (the one on Randolph has a full bar). Try one of the chef’s choice rolls, which often come with a light truffle sauce that’s good without being overbearing." - josh barnett, adrian kane, john ringor
"This casual spot has been in Andersonville since 2004, and the secret to its two-decade reign is the great sushi. They have a wide variety of simpler nigiri and sashimi as well as some tasty-but-pricey loaded signature maki ($27 per roll) with special ingredients like truffle honey and togarashi chili oil. There’s a back dining area that’s perfect for a more relaxed meal, but on a busy night, the front space by the chef’s counter is ideal for dinner with some friends and your favorite six-pack (it’s BYOB)." - adrian kane, john ringor, veda kilaru
"This sushi restaurant is offering both delivery and takeout. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation
"Those in the know visit Mike Ham, affectionately referred to as Sushi Mike, for his masterful ability to manipulate maki. The signature chef’s choice rolls are popular and can be customized to diners’ tastes. They’re packed with tuna, shrimp tempura, soft-shell crab, truffle honey, and other exciting flavors. Ham has also created original dishes like “fish and chips” (spicy tuna, pico de gallo, avocado, tortilla chip) and a “tuna truffle flower” (seared tuna sashimi, chive sauce, truffle honey). Equally thrilling: The restaurant is BYOB." - Naomi Waxman, Eater Staff
"Before Sushi Mike opened in the West Loop, there was the original in Andersonville. This location has the same quality sushi, just in a more laid-back environment. So come here for sushi that’s good and reasonably priced. Tanoshii is perfect for a weekday dinner or low-key date night." - sam faye, adrian kane, john ringor
