The History of the Fresno Chile Pepper | Eater

"A restaurant carved out of a family banquet-hall space still retains the original diner counter but now centers on a pizza oven and a large wood grill; the chef sources local produce and almond wood for the grill and occasionally features Fresno chiles on salads and pizzas, reflecting a commitment to regional ingredients and highlighting an underappreciated local pepper." - Ryan Bradley

Okay guys now, I’m not going to lie…. I’m a picky eater. But this is one restaurant that I will happily visit to dine out! I desire an uplifting yet serene and genuine atmosphere, and this restaurant offers just that! Great people, great food, great drinks and gorgeous establishment, all in all would recommend! Kendall will welcome you graciously, she is so very kind! Micheal is a fantastic waiter, as is Shelby (waitress) and Noah (the manager) will always be sure you are having the desired experience 😌 last but certainly not least.. Trevor will do you up a delicious pizza, just how you want it! (If you wish to take one to go, he will par-bake it for you and leave instructions on the box!)☺️ My recommendation: Margarita Pizza, salad of your choice (they are all superb can’t go wrong!) with a glass of Prosecco 👌🏼

Google
So so so good. Everything we had was phenomenal, they do have some things that rotate on the menu so if there’s something you want to try, I recommend going for it. Had no reservations, walked in around 5pm on a Saturday, were very lucky to get seated at the bar (3 of us). Service was outstanding, one of the dishes was delayed and they gave us complimentary meatballs. I had the lamb Ragu - amazing. Others had the seafood pasta that was also very good, and the bucatini.

Google
Great service and food. The arancini was good but the meat sauce was better. I had the Diavola Pizza, it was a perfect balance of flavors and heat. My wife had the Fresno State corn pasta. She enjoyed the creamy, sweet taste. However, I enjoyed the service which was exceptional.

Google
We love coming to the Annex kitchen for appetizers and pizza. The meatballs are amazing and the kale salad is incredible....and I never thought I would ever say that! Everything we have ever ordered here is enjoyable to the palate. Highly recommend!

Anechia Marina

Google
It’s one of my favorite restaurants in Fresno. The appetizers are top tier. My favorites are the arancini, burrito and stone fruit, meatballs , and the bone marrow. The bone marrow is not on the menu all the time. My all time favorite dish in the Fresno State Corn agnolotti. It’s literally perfect and seasonal. Restaurant is rustic and beautiful but can be a little loud when it’s full which is all the time. I would like to see the regular drink menu include a few more cocktails. The firecracker cocktail is my go to there and it never disappoints but it does get spicy!

The layout of this restaurant was odd. One rectangle dining room, a long bar adjacent to the dining area that took up the whole wall. The dining area consisted of tables, round booths in the center. I had a reservation and I was sat at a table that is right next to their POS system. Almost was bonked in the head by a server and every time I stood up to head to the restroom there was staff at the POS system. They were focusing on entering orders and not paying attention to you waiting for them so you could get by. The server did not attend my table until 20 minutes after being sat, it is also very loud in that dining room hard to have a conversation with someone. I ordered a steak cooked correct but was under seasoned. The salad was okay. I just don't find this place worth the amount of money you pay.

Google
I really wanted to love this place, but I just don’t. If I’m going to spend this kind of money on a meal, I want it to knock my socks off, and this place does not do that. It is nice inside and the people are friendly, so there’s that. We ordered the Arancini for an hors d’oeuvre and it was pretty tasty, but a few of them were cold in the middle. When I told the waiter this, he just responded that he would tell the chef. I expect more from a restaurant like this. We then ordered the braised, short rib and the Tagliolini. They were both fine, but not incredible. And they did not even bring me bread until I asked. I have now been there twice, and I’ve come to the same conclusion both times. I’m done.

Google
Hands down probably the best Italian restaurant in Fresno. The food is always on point, tasty and never left me disappointed. Service is also good, the only thing i dont really like is the noise. People are extremely loud and make the environment less enjoyable. A little advice, lights are too dim, a bit more brighter will help to read the menu because not all the tables are well illuminated.

Yelp
Seriously, it was over the top! We were able to get a last minute reservation on a Saturday night because someone else had cancelled. A stroke of luck. We arrived at 6:45pm - the dining room was packed and the bar was full. It was loud - probably the only hiccup in an otherwise delightful and delicious evening. Wish I'd hadn't been so distracted by the food - forgot to take photos. All of the staff was smiling and cordial. Our server, Nick, has worked at Annex since it opened. Although, I think he said he's taken some time away. The busperson, Miguel, was so friendly and accommodating - we thanked him again and again. We shared the Arugula salad with radicchio, shaved parmigiano, and lemon vinaigrette. It was absolutely perfect. And then a handcrafted house pizza - SPICY SOPPRESSATA , mozzarella, fontina, gorgonzola, red onion, and calabrian honey was outstanding. There were only crumbs left behind. I wish we'd had room for dessert - the ricotta donuts sounded divine. Next time. We enjoyed conversations with the 4-top sitting next to us. Obvioiusly locals and very much regulars at the Annex. It was a memorable evening on our Fresno stay.

Yelp
One of the few bars in town that can make a paperplane cocktail. Bartenders were super professional. I liked the selection of amanos (amani?). Wasn't too hungry, or else would have gotten food. Places like this make me vow never to go to a mediocre restaurant/bar again. I got an affogato, which is the greatest dessert of all time, imo. It starts out creamy and hot. The sweet creamy vanilla ice cream plays nicely against the intense bitterness of the espresso. Hot and cold. As you eat it, the espresso cools down and makes a kind of icy, slushy crust around the ice cream. It's like eating orange creamsicle but with espresso. I loved the whipped mascarpone they had on top which they call "whipped cream"- so rich and over the top. The biscotti that came on the side was anise and pistachio flavored. It was a divine dessert. My one complaint was that the cup it was served in made it a little hard to eat. The espresso was at the bottom of a rather narrow cup while the ice cream was on top, making it a little hard to eat them together. If I had to be really picky, I would say the dessert needed another shot of espresso. But it was a terrific dessert nonetheless. They use amperger's ice cream, which is another plus I'm looking forward to coming again to try the food. Corn agnolotti comes highly recommended by the staff, apparently.

Yelp
Great food. We have been going to Annex (either main dinning room or renting out their private dining room for recruitment events) since they first opened. This visit was in the main dining room as a group of 4. Started with a round of cocktails and Truffle Fries that are excellent. The simple mayonnaise based sauce is mild and perfect accompaniment to thin, crisp, perfectly cooked frites. Second was salads, we shared two small salads. The Kale Caesar is very good, simple and the kale is perfect, just the right tenderness of the leaves and very even. The baby Gem is I think the best salad I have ever eaten... Unfortunately I order it every time I go because I can't resist so I don't get to branch out to try their seasonal salads. For our main course we also shared. We had a pepperoni pizza, the bucatini pasta with prosciutto and spicy tomato sauce, and the chicken with broccolini. I do like their pizza cooked in that magnificent pizza oven was very good. The fresh bucatini, well the pasta was perfectly cooked and fresh. The sauce was ok but a bit mismatched for the pasta with the large pieces of prosciutto in it, I'll wait until their fresh sweet corn agnolotti becomes available next time. The chicken is delicious. Simple well cooked to perfection. I am going to guess this is a descendent from Zuni Cafe fame, while I don't typically order chicken in a restaurant, I'll continue to make an exception for this one. Service: very good, not great. The waiter was very good, he knew his stuff, understood the menu and made a great wine recommendation. Timing was perfect but that is because we directed when to put the order in for our mains. Of course it could have been perfect without doing that but our history has taught us otherwise... we will never know. Aside from our well mustached waiter, the rest of the staff were not particularly attentive, but in general he made up for it. The noise is always quite loud in Annex and can be difficult to have conversations. This time was not quite as bad as usual but if there were a way to add some acoustic tiles without changing the look, it would be a real plus. Overall I think Annex Kitchen lived up to their usual standards, it was a wonderful meal and a pleasant time. We will be back

Yelp
One of the first places on my list to try when I landed here in Fresno. This place never disappoints. I had a dinner partner today and we ordered the steak fiorentine. Took a lil convincing to get them from ordering the ribeye but they were so happy they ventured out. We sat next to a ver nice couple the duplicated our almost exact order but they added the Fresno corn agnolotti dish. They were so nice in giving us a taste. It was incredible! I don't even know how to describe these tender lil pillows of flavor. Fresno state corn is good but whatever Annex does to it makes it even better. The corn is seasonal dish so get it while you can and enjoy! Stick me with a fork, I'm done.

Yelp
Always a great time here. One of my favorite restaurants in fresno. The fresno state corn agnolotti is my favorite but it's seasonal. Great date vibe or for hanging with friends

Yelp
The food was absolutely fabulous. My wife had the Summer Margarita pizza and I had the Tagliolini. Both were fantastic.

Yelp
Hangar steak was pretty good with the truffle fries. Kind of expensive overall but tasty food which is what really matters. Steak cooked properly, decent portion of fries. Take out order was on time, they forgot cutlery which was a bummer but easy. Very busy and a fun place inside, atmosphere wise

Yelp
We came here after the place across the streets kitchen was unexpectedly closed. They said the wait was long but they called us in 30 minutes to sit in the back alcove. It was a little dark back there but we didn't care. Our waitress was amazing and super knowledgeable. She helped us pick drinks and appetizers. The truffle fries were insane and the aioli was to die for. The risotto balls were incredible. The pizza was delicious and the drinks were so good. We would definitely come back here!

Yelp
One of the best restaurants in Fresno. The place is always packed so get reservations . The service is phenomenal. The employees always check on you and the food came out fast. The restaurant itself is clean, great atmosphere, and not loud. The food is top tier. Every thing looked tempting but we ended up with the steak and salmon. Side note get the truffle fries.

Yelp
The Corn Agnolotti is my favorite summer meal! Every bite melts in your mouth! We are also a big fan of the mushroom pizza and the short ribs! This is high quality, creative food!
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
Came here again with family. Great restaurant and atmosphere. Nice place for a date as well. Had the corn agnolotti as this is a seasonal dish but it's amazing! A must try!. Settled with the short rib for dinner which was delicious as well.

Yelp
This is a one of a kind experience! Whenever someone visits from out of town I bring them here. The bone marrow is one of my favorites! It is perfectly carmelized and the accompaniments are perfect! Their brick fired pizza is next level. They also have a great bar and bartenders! I am an old fashioned loving guy, when I asked for one, the bartender said, let me make you this craft cocktail, if you don't like it, I will make you an old fashioned. Tried it and it blew me away! They know from your tastes what you would like. Never had anything like it ever!

Yelp
Katie Katie Katie!!! Thank you for making mine and my boyfriend's 6 year anniversary special! I have been dying to eat here for a few years now, but never having a reservation had discouraged me. We came in around 6 expecting a long wait, but to our surprise the wait was fairly quick for a Friday night, I believe it was a rare occasion. The menu had great variety to it which means I'll have to keep coming again! and again! For our Appetizer we had a burrata cheese with egg plant mixture that was phenomenal. I didn't know I liked eggplant til today! for our drinks the lovely Katie brought us Prosecco on the house for our anniversary that ended up being my personal favorite. So thank you again Katie! We both enjoyed the Firecracker cocktail, we enjoy our vodka, and it was tasty and they even accommodated to my boyfriend's slight MINT allergy! (Our fault for not paying attention to our order) For our entrees my partner order the Hanger Steak with Potatoes and that was delicious! My partner ordered his medium so I'd say if you like it a bit more cooked lean towards medium well (Managed to snag a few bites) I had the Salmon and Potatoes which I also found delicious! (He snagged a few bites and agreed!) overrall I have to say we really enjoyed the Annex Kitchen. Probably my new favorite spot, and like I said Katie provided us with the best service on such a special day. Also the dark vibe inside the restaurant that they share with the red room next vibe sets such a mood that takes you back in time. The one thing I found okay was the dessert at the end! We got a chocolate mousse thing and it was subpar to everything else Other than that we will be back to try all the other menu items I promise!

Yelp
If I could give out Michelin stars, I'd hand one to Annex Kitchen! On a weekday night, same day reservations were a breeze. My bf and I ordered the.... 1) Butternut Squash Agnolotti: wouldn't change a thing about it. I'd argue this was a Michelin deserving dish! The balsamic? The crispy sage? The sweet squash filling? YUMMY! It was the best thing we had tonight. 2) Creste Di Gallo: HEARTY, HEAVY & TRUFFLY! Pasta is a perfect al dente and the sausage was a nice protein addition. Between the two we liked the butternut pasta more. 3) Local figs and ricotta: yummy, but kinda... underwhelming?? It's a simple dish and it's good, but probably wouldn't order again. 4) Affogato: a classic! I love that they use local ice cream from Ampersand

Yelp
Man we messed up not making a reservation first for Saturday night. It was going to be close to 2 hour wait. Lucky for us, some diners ended up not showing up and we got their bar seats. The restaurant looks nice! I like their bar setup and how they use a wood fire oven. This made it easier for me to stick with my pizza order. The staff were all super friendly and made sure we were comfortable the whole time.
google avatar

Abigaile W.

Yelp
The ambiance is good. It's a woodfired, brick oven pizza place and I thought the way the space was decorated and somewhat dimly lit matched that well. The food was amazing. I'm an arancini junky and was not disappointed. These arancini had pesto inside and were delicious and complemented the gooey cheese well. I'm not a fan of burrata but even I have to say it was plated beautifully and my sister and her fiancé enjoyed it. The service was good overall but a bit rushed at times.

Yelp
Have been here a few times now. Always need a reservation especially on weekend. Not open on Sunday or Monday. Their consistently excellent dishes are the pastas which are homemade. Tagliatelle lamb ragu is always decadent and so good. Squid ink linguine when available is also delicious- clams, briney seafood pairs so well with the pasta. The sweet corn pasta in the summer is so unique and also rich yet light. Have tried their burrata appetizer which can never go wrong with- grilled bread is always a treat but can also ask for some regular bread, which is nice to sop up any juices or sauces. Recent mussel spicy tomato broth with sausage was nice and had a hint of heat. Desserts can be hit or miss. The polenta berry crumble when in season is excellent. Recent Apple crisp was good but not the most unique and not worth the price tag. Cocktails are usually excellent. Recent tropical Negroni was very very unique- Smokey and not too sweet but just sweet enough if regular Negronis are too strong. Ambiance- can get quite loud with the music and the acoustics in the restaurant. Seating can also be very cramped or tight depending on which table. Service usually very attentive and professional from all staff. Hostesses can be fairly polite though few can be a bit aloof.
google avatar

Jennifer G.

Yelp
This has become one of my favorite dinner spots. The food is always delicious, with the truffle fries, kale salad and bucatini and tagliolini pastas being my go to orders here. I recently tried the rigatoni and it was so rich in flavor! The service has vastly improved since I first started coming as well. Reservations are a must since this place is always bustling. It can be noisy at times but that's to be expected at a restaurant as busy as this one.

Yelp
Fantastic Food & Service at the Bar! I had an amazing experience at The Kitchen Annex, sitting at the bar and enjoying top-notch service from Andrew and Tyler. These two bartenders were incredibly attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu and drinks. They made the experience feel personal and welcoming, which is exactly what you want when dining at the bar. The hanger steak was cooked to perfection--juicy, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Pairing it with an **Old Fashioned** was a fantastic choice--the cocktail was expertly crafted, perfectly balanced, and one of the best I've had in a long time. Great atmosphere, outstanding service, and incredible food & drinks. Whether you're grabbing a bite solo or with friends, I highly recommend sitting at the bar and letting Andrew and Tyler take care of you! Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Hadn't been here in quite sometime and now wish we had come back sooner. We made a last minute reservation that put us at a high top pizza station, which turned out to be incredible. These guys work like a well oiled machine and it was a lot of fun to watch. My go to appetizer is the Arancini, which is filled with a pesto risotto. My wife chose the bone barrow, which I have never ordered because of the gelatinous texture, BUT it was incredible! The depth of flavor was great. For entrees, she did a sweet pea agnolotti. She loved it. I don't like peas, so one taste and I was good. I had the tagliatelle with lamb ragu. Pasta was cooked perfectly. Lamb was good, but a little gamey. Can't wait to come back sooner than later.

Sue C.

Yelp
Courtney is literally the best! Such a great smile beautiful personality. The food here is awesome! Fast service. We got a reservation earlier today bc it can be busy if you don't. Absolutely love the vibe and Courtney

Yelp
The Annex Kitchen is a great restaurant that feels like it belongs in a big city. They do get pretty busy and tables are close together. Staff are generally friendly. I've been a longtime customer for years. Noah, the manager, is amazing and always provides excellent service and experience. Some of my favorites include the famous sweet corn agnolotti, the steak, prosciutto and goat cheese pizza and arugula salad. The butternut squash agnolotti in the fall is also delicious.
google avatar

Jaylyn R.

Yelp
Great atmosphere here, it's very beautiful! Servers were friendly and very accommodating! Food was really good!

Yelp
Love Fresno, because of their restaurants and people! The Annex Kitchen is an unbelievable restaurant with great creativity, e.g., grilled broccolini, wood-oven baked pizza's and their spin on chicken (literally the very best chicken I have ever had - throughout the world! All the staff are amazing, especially their professional barkeeps and mixologists. Try their Oleo Fashion or, even better, their Oleo Superiore (be careful, $40 per drink, but it's worth it!).

Yelp
What a great place this is Modern restaurant with open kitchen, great looking bar, amazing food and great service Bravo

Cynthia M.

Yelp
Amazing food. Best quality of ingredients. Deliciously mastered plates. Would definitely recommend this place.

Montavious P.

Yelp
Booked a reservation for my birthday was greeted very nicely and congratulated on my birthday. Service was actually pretty well. Very attentive waitress. As far as table. No the best. I'm a tall guy and didn't have much room. Menu was ok I believe they had one burger option. And one decently priced steak. I went with the steak. 8oz hanger steak. I give it a 6.4/10 Ordered it medium but I'm not sure but when it came out it seemed below medium. I was hoping the sear carried it. Not so much. But it was still bearable. Ambiance was nice. But dark. Kind of funny to see the older people use their flash lights on their phones to read the menu. Overall Annex I give you a good 6. Maybe I'll come back and try the pizza or pasta.
google avatar

Yelp
Leave your condiments at home as chef dishes are so tasty and fresh! Every plate we ordered delighted our taste buds. Perfect portions. Order family style so you can taste more options! Be sure to make reservations ( 15 minute grace period) as it's a Fresno hot spot! Friendly attentive service. Tables are cleared quickly and are kept clean.
google avatar

Yelp
Annex Kitchen is hands down one of my favorite restaurants in the Fresno area, as well as my parents! I would recommend making a reservation and do it at least a week in advance, because they run out of times very quickly! My family ordered the Meatball appetizer and then I ALWAYS order the Tagliatelle with Lamb Ragu. The meatballs were very moist and flavorful, and the crunchy bread on the side was perfect to dip into the tomato sauce. The Tagliatelle was also amazing! The meat is so tender and you can tell the noodles are fresh. The ambiance is perfect as well! Highly recommend this spot! *My one ding would be parking is sometimes difficult to find.

Yelp
So glad to have made it back to dine inside. Everything was delicious and perfectly cooked. Service was friendly and efficient. Upbeat open seating and great bar seating.
google avatar

Yelp
We came every year to Annex kitchen on my birthday because they have the best seafood linguine in town and their Manhattan is the best. Just got out it was not disappointed. The food was awesome and the service was the best. It is a long drive from Northeast closed to Woodward Lake area but it is worth the driving. We have Anneso and the pizza is good. But Annex Kitchen is still the best.
google avatar

Caitlin A.

Yelp
If you want to come to annex, you need to book a reservation in advance! Some of our favorites dishes include the arancini, meatballs, carbonara pizza, and the corn pasta (seasonal). The corn pasta is so unique and a must try! For cocktails, try a firecracker it has the perfect amount of spice!
google avatar

PeiJen C.

Yelp
Very popular place in Fresno (reservations are highly recommended). When walking to the restaurant, I can smell delicious wood-fire grilled food/pizza. Enjoy the variety of cocktails (old fashioned is strongly recommended). We ordered their Appetizer arancini with basil and tomatoes sauce (yes most order), corn homemade pasta. Carbonara pizza and grilled Salmon with broccoli onside (Salmon with perfect temperature)!!! Overall, we had a great memorable dining experience.

Yelp
I'm conflicted about my experience at The Annex Kitchen. Made a reservation for dinner for my girlfriend's birthday. My overall takeaway: service was amazing, ambiance was nice. Sadly the food left me underwhelmed so I'm not sure if I can really recommend this place. Service: Our server was awesome. Super friendly, helpful, and often checked up on our table. Would refill my water without me having to ask (I drink so much water so I find this to be a green flag haha). I think his name is Garrett? Anyways he was the highlight of our night. Food/Drinks: - Truffle Fries: the aioli could've used more flavor. Fries could've had more salt. - Fusilli Pasta: Great dish. No complaints. Pasta came with chicken, herbs and pancetta. - Margherita Pizza: Biggest disappointment. The cheese and toppings kept falling and sliding off the pizza. Pizza felt mushy, undercooked, and lackluster in flavor. - Red wine: tasty and generous pour. Ambiance: Definitely on the nosier side but that's not necessarily a bad thing (at least for me) because it shows how lively the place is. Overall I'm not sure if I would return. Annesso Pizzeria in Fresno also serves similar food and I enjoyed their food more than here tbh. Big s/o to Garrett though. He saved our dining experience here.

Yelp
Let's start off with the place is small, hot, and congested with people just waiting by the front door they don't have a space to hangout and wait for your table. Secondly it was my friend and I first time there so made a reservation at the pizza bar and let me tell you don't do it unless you're cold blooded inside. I really thought it was going to be a great experience that's why I picked it. Oh boy was I wrong, the pizza guy was getting yelled out for not dishing them out fast enough, I have no idea if he was new or what. The space the oven has the bbq area is cramped and they just kept hitting each other I honestly don't like the set up and was waiting for an accident to happen. The girl was so quiet I couldn't hear her but my friend did so she ordered for us, we got the meatballs and shared them, they came out slightly warm and not crispy at all, it was as if you room them out of a boiling pot of water and set them down on a plate. The sauce was really good though, the bread was too. We finished that and ordered each a pizza, mind you this pizza is $21 dollars. I'm a sucker for pizza by the way that's why I ordered it. It was honestly way over priced for what it was, I've had specialty pizza before and this was a 6 out of 10. I also had seen my pizza sitting in the window because my friends wasn't ready yet, and that's a big negative for me. I did order a glass of wine and it was really good, I just wish the service was better. She never checked in, never asked what the occasion was. The manager sat a water pitcher in front of us so we didn't have to get waited on. And we sure didn't, it's really unfortunate when you go to a fancy restaurant and get extremely poor service. I just felt like they didn't care that we were there. I don't think I'd be coming back anytime soon.

Yelp
The food was excellent as usual. I got meatballs as a started , braised beef as the main course with some crispy potatoes. The service was Great and timely. The Ambiance was nice !

Yelp
We ordered takeout, as I couldn't wait for a late reservation. The restaurant was filled with patrons. I walked in and was immediately greeted by three nice ladies. It was mood lighting inside with music playing. The ac felt so cool and inviting. My food was ready exactly at the expected time. I brought silverware and napkins so we could eat in the car. Why did I go...to get the Fresno State Corn Agnolotti. It is a limited time offer and a must order! The pasta was perfectly cooked and filled with cheese and corn. It was smothered in a sweet buttery corn sauce and had shaved parm over it. So, so good! The Kale salad was fresh, crispy and had plenty of sliced almonds. We substituted the dressing for a lemon vinaigrette, which really amped the freshness! The polenta was smooth and tasty. The meatball was perfectly cooked and had a spicy sauce on it. The meatball itself was a bit lacking in flavor. Thank goodness for the sauce! Definitely a special place to eat. Takeout, with tip was $72, but well worth the splurge, just to have the main dish. The Fresno State Corn Agnolottiis is so good it was on the Food Network episode of The Best Thing I Ever Ate. I will be back for that before the season is over

Yelp
I had high expectations of this place because of all the reviews I seen, and I was excited to try it. I have to say I was a bit underwhelmed with the experience. We were celebrating a friend's birthday I informed the hostess when I made the reservation for nine people at 8pm. My party arrived in increments. I arrived about 10 minutes early and was seated promptly from there my party arrived in about every couple of minutes. The last two people of my party arrived at 8:07 . We were never asked what drinks we wanted until about 8:36 when our drink order and food order were taken at the same time. The server asked us if we were celebrating anything special. We let them know that it was our friends birthday. He said OK perfect. Our drinks took about 15 more minutes to come out and our food took about another 15 minutes from that so after taking our food and drink order, we received our food within 30 minutes. While some of our food was great, one of our friends food was not cooked properly and had to be taken back where he waited another 10 minutes for his food to come out for it to be almost burned. By the time our food came out, we had asked for another round of drinks, and only about five people received their drinks, the second time. The manager had came around and asked how everything was going. I let him know that everything was really slow, but other than that, the food was great for some of us. We didn't get out of the restaurant until about 10:30. What makes me upset is our friend's birthday was never acknowledged by the staff while the party behind us birthday was acknowledged with a dessert and singing , we weren't asked if we wanted to try any desserts and to top it off We were charged a 20% gratuity . The quality of service received does not justify the gratuity charge. I will say that I probably will not be back unfortunately and I would not recommend any of my friends to go if they had a party we let the manager know about our concerns and we're kind of brushed off and gaslit overall go at your own risk.

Yelp
Wasn't great I think they hyped up this place. Services was not great. To get a glass of water took 10 minutes. They charged us for some peppers didn't even mentioned that there were extra. We had some pasta and steak. I wouldn't go back for an overpriced dinner and not so great service. The ambiance is not great either super loud small space and they packed that place.

Yelp
We had reservations at the pizza oven. It was a warm day so we were worried it would be really hot. It was not bad.. definitely warmer than the rest of the restaurant but it was comfortable. Our server was friendly. We ordered blood orange margaritas (not on the menu) and they were very good. We both ordered the corn agnolotti (and that is what we came for) and it was so tasty as always. We look forward to corn season JUST FOR THIS. We got a side of mushrooms and they were a great addition to the agnolotti. We had the mixed berry cobbler and while the server told us it was made with polenta we weren't anticipating the gritty texture that is not at all like a cobbler (or even a crisp)... it was like cornmeal. Neither one of us were fans. We will definitely be back during corn season!

Yelp
Classy interior, lots of seating, easy to find parking, and no wait time. We were already off to a great start! I think service was just okay--- our server didn't smile at all during our visit. We did, however, encounter a couple other staff members--and they were great! The food made up for it though. Here's what I got & here's what I thought: Margherita pizza (5/5): WHATTTT!? This definitely takes my spot for top pizza place. The crust was pretty thin, but the taste definitely made up for it. I'm not sure what they put in the sauce, but it was soo good. If it wasn't for the price, I would've ordered another one. Fusilli (4/5): Amazing pasta! The chicken and mushrooms were a solid combination, and the sauce was salty and full of flavor. Portion size was small, but I guess that's what you get with fine dining. Also, the menu mentions nothing about pork, but there were these really hard pieces of pork (or something that tasted like pork) mixed in with my pasta. I ended up taking them out and continued to enjoy my meal. Crispy potatoes (4/5): Great flavor, great crisp, and these were filling.

Yelp
I am sad to report that my experience at the Annex Kitchen was unfavorable. I had such high hopes since I had heard so many wonderful things about them. SO... where do I begin? 1. The wait time to be seated is atrociously long; especially after you had made a reservation a MONTH in advance. 2. The greeters are stand offish and aloof; they don't care if you stand there all night, they don't communicate with you about how much longer you have to wait to be seated. 3. We waited forever to have someone take our drink orders. 4. Our server was okay but extremely slow 5. Servers from other tables kept bumping into me when they walked by. At one point, someone bumped into me and I dropped pesto sauce on my blouse. 6. The food was "okay" but definitely nothing to write home about. I had their half chicken (which I ate only a small portion of and gave the rest away to a homeless person). The only reason I gave them two stars was because their asparagus appetizer was really tasty. I would say that was the only thing I enjoyed about the entire meal. Overall, I wouldn't waste money on this place. Its way overpriced and not worth the headache.

Yelp
Pizza, wine, steak, pasta, all of them well worth the $$$. We will be going back. Conor was a great server, made it all the better. Try this place!

Yelp
My fiancé and I had a great experience. It's her favorite Italian restaurant and I actually proposed to her there. The food was great and the staff was accommodating and it was just an overall great experience.

Yelp
Love The Annex Kitchen! If you're planning on going, make sure you book your reservation ahead of time as this place is always busy....and worth it! The first thing you'll notice when you walk in is the wood fired oven and the light smell of smoke wafting throughout the restaurant. And everything that comes out of it is delicious! Wood fired pizzas! Broccolini! Yes! The menu at The Annex changes seasonally and the house made pasta is not to be missed. Summer usually means Fresno State Corn, winter is butternut squash, spring is spring pea...and they are all delicious. The bar menu is innovative and well executed and includes an extensive wine and spirits menu including apertivi, digestivi and grappa. The Italian influence is readily apparent. This visit we tried the Southern Belle (a gin based cocktail) and the blood orange cosmo which had an amazing sweet tart taste. If you are looking for a starter, check out the salmon crudo. It melts in your mouth and is perfectly balanced with watermelon radish, dill and cucumber brodo--light and delicious! All the entrees we have tried over the last several years are well prepared, consistent and tasty. The pasta and the hanger steak are always a favorite. And don't pass on dessert! Service is the one area that needs some attention. Haughty hostesses with no warmth and minimal manners, waiting more than 5-10 minutes to be seated even with a reservation, servers with low energy and attitudes to match coupled with tables packed in tightly and poor acoustics puts a bit of a damper on the overall experience. Fortunately, the food makes up for front of the house short comings. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Service is top notch! For an Italian place, I feel like I expected more based off the high yelp rating. Everything we had was good, however I expected it all to be better. Tagliatelle- I feel like the portion was a little small. It was good but it could be a little more flavorful. Braised short rib- not bad, but have had better for cheaper Zepolle- not a fan Pizza- pretty good. Didn't get to try it but the kids were fans. Ribs special - was kind of bland. It needs like a side of sauce or something to add to it. Tried two different wines and both were very good! Overall the restaurant is beautiful and the service is amazing. The food just didn't hit as much as I'd like.
