"Far from the trendy restaurants of San Antonio’s Downtown scene, this unassuming Michelin-recommended barbecue joint is filled with tokens of its former use, including oil advertisements and service logs of an Exxon station. The culinary vibe is just as nostalgic, offering traditionally seasoned smoked meats and sides like potato salad, creamed corn, and pinto beans." - Brandon Watson

Visited this place while we were in town from California. We really wanted a Texas BBQ experience. The restaurant vibe is just that. The smell of BBQ smoke smacked us in the face as soon as we walked in.. The staff slices the fresh meat upon receiving the order. I had a 3 meat plate with brisket, pork ribs and beef ribs. All were perfectly cooked, tender and perfectly seasoned. The BBQ sauces at the table were fantastic. 5/5 stars, as the staff, food, and restaurant were just what we were looking for.

Google
Had the beef ribs and brisket off of a recommendation from a friend. Drove out here and was instantly glad i did after i took my first bite. Great food great price. Will be back again in the future.

Google
25 cent pickled jalapeños wrapped in a baggy. F that. The guy running the scale shorted me .10 of a pound of brisket... portions here were small for larger prices....meh. hometown feel made us pay for it by charging for everything now. Bummer.

Google
I chose the Two meat combo with two sides with drink for about $20. I elected the brisket & pork ribs. Meat comes dry (no sauce) which is what I prefer, sauce (1) is available on the tables but IMO, no sauce needed for either. Brisket had really good flavor and medium moist. Ribs were small back ribs and the rib rub was just slightly too salty for my taste but very still good. The ribs were mostly fall off the bone goodness. Depends on what you like. The sauce appears to be house made with a tomato sauce base with spices. Overall pretty good but again, just slighty too vinegary for my taste. I chose the pinto beans and potato salad. Beans are all you can eat. They are in a hot pot by the sodas and we're good. The potato salad was pretty bland. I would definitely go back and would like to try some of their other smoked meats.

Google
It's about as Texas BBQ as you can get. From the moment you walk in the BBQ smoke smell hits your nose. I had the Brisket and Ribs combo. Comes with 2 sides. I had Coleslaw and Green Beans. The Brisket was tender and moist with a nice smoke flavor. The ribs had a good bite through. Again great flavor.

Google
Amazing bbq. Brisket moist, fatty, cooked to perfection. Creamed corn and green beans also great. The folks here are very nice. Small hole in the wall.

Google
Been passing this place for almost 20 years now- Not anymore. Brisket was so juicy. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. The atmosphere was nice. It was a very enjoyable lunch. Service was quick despite the line of customers. For sure I will stop again. Everything looks so delicious but I was only able to taste what I ordered. 🙁

Google
I've been coming here for years, and when I feel like eating great brisket and chicken, this is where I go. It's a small mom and pop kind of place that sits by the airport if you're new in town. They are known to run out of chicken and close at 6, which should be a crime. It's best to come before 5 or even 4 so as not to miss out! The brisket and chicken combo is a must!

Yelp
Well damn where have I been !! Got the brisket bbq baked potato and WOW ! Great taste Great polite service Cool rustic feel to the place Come and get it !!

Yelp
I loved that the BBQ sauce was smoky and spicy rather than too sweet. The turkey and sausage were delicious. I just wish there were a little more bigger portions. The potato salad was good; the green beans were just okay. You order at the counter and the food comes out fast. Service is good. The ambiance is clean and has an open Texas warehouse type of vibe. It was a great lunch spot before headed to the airport nearby.

Yelp
Our high school group chat finally made it out of iMessage to visit one of the members in the great city of San Antonio. We were initially all getting together for the McGregor fight, but he pulled out with a broken toe which stung pretty bad. Quality time with the homies was the real purpose of the trip tho... All this to say, after a quick google search fresh off the plane, our first meal in SA was here at BBQ Station. We arrived in Big Bros Honda Element into the most Texas restaurant I could ever imagine: Worn out red metal panel walls that had the text "B-B-Q" painted in white, a huge banner that said "31 yrs and still SMOKIN!", and the unmistakable smell of smoked meats BLASTING your nostrils when you get within 20 yards of the door. One of the few smells that wakes your stomach up right when you inhale it. The interior matched the exterior, as the walls are littered with old signs from Texas Oil & Gas companies, highway signage, a worn in brick smoker, and the most charming little seating area you've ever seen. It felt like a little Movie/TV set to me... I watched A LOT of Friday Night Lights back in the day. I ordered the two meat plate with Brisket and pulled pork, and asked the sweet older dude taking my order what his favorite was. Without any hesitation he responded "The Jalapeno Mac and Cheese" in the most confident tone you've ever heard. I don't even like mac and cheese like that, but when someone is that confident you gotta buy in. Sometimes, I just want to be led. He wasn't lying either, that mac went CRAZY! It wasn't DOUSED in cheese either. I get annoyed when the mac is just drowning in the cheese smh. I got my tray of freshly cut brisket, pulled pork, refillable beans, god tier jalapeno mac and cheese, and a couple slices of white bread and met the homies in the no frills dining area that is flooded with natural light. I loved brisket growing up, but when I went to Texas for the first time a few years ago I realized I had never had REAL brisket. That melt in your mouth, orgasmic brisket. BBQ Station continued with that theme, as the brisket here was just otherworldly. We schemed for about 5 minutes about how we need to open an authentic BBQ shop like this in the Northeast, "it would crush..." "there is nothing like it up there..." but then remembered we don't know the first thing about making good BBQ or running a restaurant lol. Also this plate that cost us $18 would cost probably $60 there. We went to 2M later in our trip, which seems to be the general consensus for best BBQ in San Antonio. I'd have to say it's 1a and 1b with 2M getting a slight nod, but it's closer than they want to talk about... IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov_reviews

Yelp
Picked up dinner from here and these guys are amazing!! Definitely recommend!! Got to go so can't say about ambience except the signs are awesome!!

Yelp
Looked to bbq in the road with a friend and this place popped up back in September. They was a little line but moved fast. We picked meat and sides. Thought I would get more meat... anyway the food was tasty. The brisket was great! The peach cobbler was on point!

Nate J.

Yelp
Went to the BAR-B-Q Station Monday, December 2 about 1:00. Plenty of cars in the parking lot. We ordered right away. Staff was friendly. I got a brisket plate with fries and coleslaw. My meat was a little fatty, but I didn't mind. My friend had the brisket and sausage plate with green beans and mac & cheese. Atmospheres was rustic. Would definitely go again.

Justine L.

Yelp
The older ice was very quick and there was no wait to get our food. The brisket and chicken were amazing but the pork ribs were dry in my opinion. The portions are also a little smaller than most other bbq spots. The sides were great, thought. There was plenty of seating mid-day Thursday. I would recommend if you're on the go and next to the airport, but I've had better bbq in Texas before

Marie Merfalen B.

Yelp
A MUST TRY!! Looking for good Texas bbq, THIS is the place. Although it was packed, it was efficient and quick. Food was delicious!

Alexis R.

Yelp
I'll keep it short and sweet, rids falling off the bone, brisket tender as heck! Mac n cheese and the cream corn is delicious! It was our first time, me and my bestie are south Texas natives, we love our damn bbq and the bbq station is so damn good! Love the ambience, good customer service and I love me an outside patio, so peaceful! Don't hesitate y'all! Must try while you are in San Antonio!

Yelp
First stop & priority in San Antonio is to eat (of course) before setting up for the conference. This place was recommended by the Enterprise rental booth attendant. It was not a disappointment. I ordered the two meat entree with 2 sides. The beef brisket was lean and tender it melted in my mouth and cut it with a plastic knife. The bark has a perfect char to it and the house made sauce is a nice complement. Then the smoked turkey was a treat as well. Tender and not too dry. My two dishes were the jalapeño macaroni and cheese and creamy coleslaw. Just the right heat for the Mac & cheese. Slaw was nice and tart. Fresh brewed tea of course. They have a free refill on seasoned pinto beans, they hit the spot as well. When you're in San Antonio stop here right off 410 East not too far from the airport. Reasonable prices not a wallet buster. It is self service and fine in or carry out. Great staff very friendly and helpful for first time guest.

Yelp
16 May 2023 We went to Barbecue Station on National BBQ Day. How cliche. Ha, ha. Our first time here. My sister has been recommending this place for years and we finally went. I mentioned this to the counterman and he said to thank her. We both had the two meat plate ($12.99). Brisket and sausage with sides of Cole slaw, Mac and cheese. Two sides are included. Also sliced bread. If you pick beans as a side, refills are free. There is a hot pot on the counter next to the soda fountain. Onions and pickles are also included and you can get as much as you want. The meats are placed on butcher paper which is on top of a tray. The sides are in small styrofoam containers. The brisket is pretty lean and the sausage is quite good, not overly fatty as some are. We also did dessert. Here's where I was a little disappointed. The peach cobbler is $2.75 and is served in the small side container. The pecan pie is $3 and is an approximate 2-inch round little thing. Not what I was expecting. Oh well. They weren't bad, just small. Counter service was fast and efficient. The tables are bussed quickly. The busser comes around a few times to ask if we need anything. Pretty good place. Go there.

Yelp
I was done with an appointment in the area right before 11 AM so I decided to pick up food at The Barbeque Station, located at 410 and Harry Wurzbach. It has been there forever and the character of the building shows it. You can smell the smoke of all these years permeate the walls. Not a fancy glass and stainless-steel kind of place. There was already a line at 11 AM and by the time I placed my order there were nearly 20 people queued up. I ordered a two-meat plate with lean brisket and turkey. I should add that the menu has different prices for the combo plate, depending on the two meats you choose. I like that. My combo plate came with two sides for $12.99 plus tax and tip. One of the more affordable places in the city. My two sides were potato salad and jalapeño Mac and Cheese. Portion sizes rival other places charging nearly $20 for a plate. You can see in the photo that both the brisket and turkey were moist and not dried out. Both had a nicely seasoned bark. One of the few places where I could honestly skip the sauce because the meat is so flavorful. But the sauce is so good. Runnier than most, served warm, with a nice balance of acidity from the vinegar and sweetness from brown sugar probably. The potato salad had good flavor, but was too much like mashed potatoes to be my favorite. The jalapeño mac and cheese was the star. The macaroni was perfectly cooked and not much like other places. The cheese sauce was creamy and had a little kick from the jalapeños.

Jenny Y.

Yelp
Meh. The brisket was dry with a peppery crust. Bbq sauce definitely improved on the taste but I don't think I'd make the trek back out.

Jeff B.

Yelp
I'm a native Texan - do t live here but return often to visit family- and most importantly, my mother. Was looking for a GOOD bbq joint, no frills, good food, yada yada yada. But most importantly- Good brisket. And , sure, good ribs. But if the brisket sucked- no deal for a second return I'm already planning my 2-3-4- and 5th-10th return to this place- The brisket was so ON POINT- it was crazy. And their baby backs were incredible- Do yourself a favor - add this place to your must visit list. It'll be better than any of your top 5, 10, whatever spots- this place is a Texas bbq gem

JD B.

Yelp
good choices for lunch! Three sizes with your custom sandwich. soups and salad choices too

Amber S.

Yelp
Excellent!! Just delicious. Wonderful, personable service. Looks just as a BBQ place should be. The meat was so tender and tasty. The sides were excellent. It's an old building but there's nothing better than that when it comes to great Texas BBQ!!! Just loved it and will be back when I head over to Ft. Sam again!

Robert W.

Yelp
We brought our new Air Force Airman here after graduation. We were not disappointed. Food was amazing and service was just as amazing. The whole family walked in and couldn't believe how great it smelled. Everyone finished their meals... which isn't typical for my picky eaters.

Alejandro A.

Yelp
The food was ok. It wasn't great, it wasn't bad. I'd rate the food as 3-stars. However, there are two reasons I am giving a 2-star review. First, I asked the gentleman at the counter if the lemonade was fresh squeezed, he said "Yes, it's fresh squeezed". After I left the counter, I asked one of the employees where the fresh squeezed lemonade is; she said "we don't have fresh squeezed, just the powder mix". I would have just drank water if the gentleman at the counter was honest and told me it wasn't fresh squeezed. The second reason for the 2-star review is that the price of the meat on the menu board was not the price I was charged.

Mary P.

Yelp
Everything. I drive 30 minutes to eat here or pick up to go. Worth it. Wish drinks were bigger. Free refills if you eat there

Steph S.

Yelp
We used to love this place but the last two times there has been entirely too much big pepper kernels on the brisket and the ribs. We know our Q and this is a big no no. It is as if they are trying to cover up a bad cook. At any rate fool me twice rule is in effect. Their sides are delicious so if that is all you eat then you're golden.

Ian M.

Yelp
If i could rate it 6 stars i would I came here because i was tired of eating only bill millers and rudys. I wanted to try something new and it was, these guys got their own unique recipes it's obvious they aint copying off of nobody, at the same time it kinda taste like rudys and bill millers combined but with a twist. Here you will really get a bang for your buck, and the term "you get what you pay for" doesnt apply here because you get more for what you pay for. From their ribs to chicken to brisket it's arguably some of the best bbq i ever had, and on TOP of their humble prices, they dont cheap you out at all. You will be satisfied eating here and with they amount they give you for what you pay for. Definitely deserves more attention!

Katina J.

Yelp
Hopeful, but not impressed. I pass by the restaurant often on my route to work. Today I decided to give it a go because I have been truly craving some good BBQ. My experience was interesting, I wasn't really dressed for an outing so, I opted for curbside ordering based on their website. I ordered and paid - no problem. I parked in curbside and called the number, no answer...called again, no answer. I went inside and stood in a very long line and my order was incorrect so I had to wait for that to be fixed. Mediocre BBQ, I can't recommend unfortunately.

Laura J.

Yelp
Solid brisket Mac and Cheese Good Green Beans Good Coleslaw no flavor, dry Potato Salad worst I have had, just cold mashed potato with no seasoning. Beans amazing! Great atmosphere

Zombie O.

Yelp
Basic BBQ joint. Need to get new saw blades. Did a lot of bone chewing trying to eat the beef ribs. Brisket was average. A bit dry for my taste.

Susie G.

Yelp
Hubby and I tried it today. Sad sad . No flavor and way too much pepper on pork ribs beans and coleslaw was flavorless everything was flavorless. The fries were the only thing good and fresh. Not ever going back no recommendations from us.

Debra R.

Yelp
For$50+ I got the meal to feed 3 to 4 people. The briskets and ribs had dam too much black peppers for seasoning. The five piece of meat was tender but I didn't like the taste. And don't get me talking about that Potato salad and beans. No taste at all. Very disappointed will not be back again. This place is underrated!!!!

Teresa D.

Yelp
Holy hell, this is the best pulled pork, sausage, and brisket I've had in many, many years. Pork is not sauced which I love. I ordered to go on a Tuesday at 11:30am and everything was so fresh and delish. I also got a side of fries, but I would skip next time. 1/2 lb brisket 1/2 lb pulled pork 1 sausage link Fries ----- $21

Lexie R.

Yelp
Tried to find some of the best barbecue in San Antonio to treat my husband for lunch and was utterly disappointed. The great thing is when you first walk in you get that smell of barbecue and you can see the meat in front of you in the pit and it just makes it start off great however, when we went to order the lady taking our order was extremely short route offered no kind or respectful attitude didn't help us at all, and was literally huffing as we were ordering, I ordered the ribs and sausage mac & cheese and beans. The ribs are competition level ribs. They're amazing Lee flavorful have depths of smoke and great off the bone texture when eating the sausage was good, but you can tell it's been sitting there all day because the casing lost its snap, but the inside texture was pleasurable, the mac & cheese was one of the many disappointments. For jalapeño mac & cheese, you might as well just eating macaroni and milk cause exactly what it taste like there's no cheese no jalapeños, no flavor nothing elevating the noodles were mushy. It was completely garbage. The beans were basic beans nothing elevated the flavor. taste like they came out of a can. The pork loin had some decent smoke flavor. Great texture and perfect cook . The brisket was a complete utter disappointment. There is hardly any flavor any smoke it wasn't tender wasn't juicy. Do you think for a barbecue joint? They would elevate their fries with some kind of barbecue flavor anything nope you get some plain old fries you can buy at a supermarket. The cream corn was honestly the best thing about this experience to cream corn with something I would only go back for that and the ribs, but as you can see in the photos paid roughly $20 per plate and got maybe a couple pieces of meat and small size is completely not worth the price. Extremely disappointed would never come back to this rip off.

Pedro P.

Yelp
Potato salad was tasteless Cream corn was just corn and country gravy The barbecue sauce was one of the worst sauces no sweetness no heat just salty and tangy. Staff was rude they don't greet you or make eye contact and talk dont to the customers. This place is a disgrace to Texas BBQ. The decor inside is so outdated and dusty

Patricia S.

Yelp
Amazing BBQ. My favorites are the pork ribs and brisket Friendly staff to boot. Highly recommend!

Mihir P.

Yelp
No frills great food. Great service. Like how they keep it simple. The free posoles were great. The smoky smell of the bbq was very appetizing.

Ace S.

Yelp
Service was friendly and efficient Ambiance was great bbq vibes and smells Food was excellently priced! Great fatty bbq but you have option for lean. Bbq sauce was dang good. Jalapeño mac and cheese was good. Green beans were good. Cole slaw was weak will not get that again. Bread was fresh. One of my fav bbq joints anywhere!

I Michael R.

Yelp
It was since they first opened many years ago since I visited...... WoW they have grown and the food is still delicious as ever !!! It was busy but the service was quick and the food tasty hot.....yum Look like they expanded the old "Station" and it feels warm n cozy.... Clean I will remember to visit again very soon and bring some friends

Deryk D.

Yelp
I tried this place for the first time the other day, and was met with a friendly gentlemen at the register and pitmaster. I got ribs and feel that they relied on seasoning more than smoke. Which to my taste I like to taste the actual barbecue smoke as opposed to a lot of seasoning on ribs. I would like to give this place another try to sample their brisket or sausage. The place was clean and seems to be a staple in the community. Food wasn't bad. I just wasn't sold on the dish that I chose. I will try again.

B J A.

Yelp
Awesome baby back ribs. Good cream corn and potato salad. Tried their green beans also and they're good just needed a bigger size portion of them.

Claudia C.

Yelp
FOOD was amazing and the PRICE was amazing! 100% coming back. BBQ sauce on the table, BOOM!

A S.

Yelp
Chicken was very dry. Brisket was ok. They really need to clean the walls, very dirty.

Nancy F.

Yelp
One of the things I love about Texas......BBQ!!! They know how to do BBQ. We were referred to BBQ Station from a woman at the airport and I'm glad she did. Lol.... I don't think Texans love Californians. We were so happy to be there but when we told them that we were from Cali they didn't seem too happy! They were nonetheless kind but their first reaction was funny. I asked them to tell us the proper way of ordering and what's included which is what started the convo of where we were from. We were visiting Lackland so BBQ Station was our first stop and worth it. I loved the meaty ribs but the brisket was the best and the jalapeno mac and cheese was so so delish..... Haven't had white bread in a while but with the brisket and BBQ sauce was so good. It's an old gas station and I love what they have done with it. It's not a dressy place in case you're wondering but the people are great, the food is great and the place is quaint. I loved it.

Josiah G.

Yelp
The bbq prices are the lowest I've seen in the area for the portion size. Ordered the brisket/sausage, potato salad, Mac n cheese, chopped chicken, and peach cobbler. The lady at the counter wasn't very friendly and made it seem I was a burden. I asked about the kids' meal options, and that was a chore. What I gathered was I got chips and another side. So, I asked for beans and an additional side of mac and cheese. Somehow, things got lost in translation, and I didn't get beans, just a bag of chips. Honestly, when I read the order screen and knew it was wrong, I didn't care at that point. As far as Mears go I received a couple slices of point brisket, and it had nice flavor just dry. It was around noon when I came, so that was a bummer. The sausage was a little apicy but nothing to whine about. The sides were all ok, nothing outstanding. The cobbler was good, but it's possible they use peach compote and make the breading on top. Suggestions - Together up on customer service, I felt as a burden ordering food, and the attitude was expressed to the next customer behind me. Nothing was said that was unpleasant it was just poor communication skills in my opinion. Moose Out

Letty D.

Yelp
The Best BBQ in San Antonio Hands down Been there many times For Special occasions or just to get the best ever. From ribs, chicken, turkey The Sides on my MUST HAVE CREAM CORN. Take your family that is here for the holidays they will make it a tradition!

Melody M.

Yelp
They were out of pulled pork and wanted to charge extra for brisket. I opted for a combo of brisket and chicken. Both were very peppery and dry. Green beans were tasty and the peach cobbler was a nice finish. The servers were nice although I felt a bit rushed. Table and booth seating very relaxed atmosphere but kind of loud.

Nina B.

Yelp
We stopped here on the way to the airport. We are Cali folks and I feel like we stumbled upon some true authentic Texan BBQ. Your hands are going to get dirty but your stomach will thank you! We ordered the brisket, chicken leg, chopped beef with sauce, green beans, jalapeño Mac n cheese. It was all sooo good. And at a great price. It was pretty crowded for a Monday at 11am so you know it is popular with locals too. Wish we were checking a bag so I could bring some of their "spicy" hot mustard home with me. Everyone working was super friendly. Expect some laid back, plastic forks, no plates, kind of ambiance vibe.

Christina T.

Yelp
Most of the food is pretty good. Their hours are not convenient. Closes at 6? Really? Now they are closed for vacation, but said they would be back and open the 14th. Nope, they are closed and closed on Sundays. Not sure why, but that sucks because I've tried 3x to go and they aren't open.

Alan ..

Yelp
This place was pretty good. I love that you can see the giant pits and the cooks cooking. The customer service was very nice and it felt very vintage. The potato salad was really good, and pretty solid brisket and sausage. Maybe needs some renovations, like the seating, fountain drinks, and air conditioning. They give you sliced bread which is okay I guess. I don't know, I was just expecting more based on other reviews.

Doug H.

Yelp
If you love old-school barbecue, you are going to love the barbecue station! The meats are cooked to perfection, the sides are all great and the sauces are way better than most! Both the turkey and the brisket were moist and exploded with flavor! Literally my only complaint is, I wish the barbecue sauce was a little thicker... That is it... I love the old-school ambience, the super friendly staff and the fact that they sell bags of Fritos for those of us that can't resist opening a bag and filling it with chopped brisket!!!

Paymon G.

Yelp
Just arrived here from California. I was excited to taste some Texas BBQ. Unfortunately I was disappointed as the meat was so salty. Everything we had ordered was so salty keep in mind I like salty food but this guys here be doing too much.

Juliana B.

Yelp
Sweet and sakori barbecue meats. Well seasoned sides and tasty desserts. Good prices and quaint atmosphere.

C C.

Yelp
Don't go 1/2 hour before they close! Staff wasn't very friendly. I thought for sure we were about to get cussed out for making an honest mistake. Instead of being helpful we were given straight attitude. Ribs had a lot of pepper, pulled pork had a lot of salt and sausage was a sausage you could get anywhere. Potato salad was good. Ordered to go so can't say much about the ambiance. Definitely would not go back. I get enough attitude when I'm serving others at home and the food wasn't worth it even if the price was reasonable.
