The 16 Best Restaurants In Hayes Valley - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"There’s no shortage of fried chicken sandwiches in SF, but the ones from The Bird are simple perfection that we’ll never say no to. Here, you choose between classic or spicy, and each one comes loaded with pickles, mayo, and a sweet, refreshing apple slaw. Unlike the original location in SoMa, this Hayes Valley spot has beer on tap and cocktails, if you’re in the mood for something boozy." - Julia Chen 1

Turn Up the Heat With These Hot and Spicy San Francisco Dishes

"The fried chicken sandwich at this Hayes Valley and downtown restaurant is what put the Bird on the map. The spicy version of the sandwich comes with celery, slaw, and plenty of mouth-watering heat. There are also other ways to have your spicy bird, including a version served on a buttermilk biscuit, served with a side of tater tots." - Paolo Bicchieri

Google
I was in the area and decided to try theirs out based on the review. I got a spicy chicken sandwich, a mini burger and curly fries for 24$. Over all the mini burger had to be my favorite, it had a good taste and was pretty well priced. The chicken sandwich also had a fairly decent taste and a spice level that didn’t feel too extreme. The ingredients tastes fresh and I enjoyed the slaw and pickles on the sandwich. However I felt as the sauce was a bit too salty and oily as well as some of the pieces of chicken came out rubbery and stretchy but that’s just meat texture . The fries were nothing to rave about, could use more seasoning but they were just good. Customer service was great, I got to order quickly and the menu wasn’t too scary to approach. I think I’ll go again and try a different kind of chicken sandwich and will also return for just the mini burger. Recommend trying it out!

Google
It’s a good place to try some good burgers and sandwiches. The price is also reasonable. I ordered a super burger with loaded fries and coleslaw. The loaded fries were little salty the burger had good flavour and coleslaw is not my favourite.

Google
I really liked this place. Food was good and several beer options. Decent pricing and tucked away around the corner. Nice place to stop and get a bite and a pint. Indoor and outdoor seating. We both had Buffalo Chicken. I added curly fries. Very good.

Google
Great lil spot to grab bar food. Stopped by here after visiting the Painted Ladies and then headed to the airport. This spot was perfect. Great seating area outside to take in great weather and atmosphere. I ordered the double cheeseburger with curly fries, a burger for the kids, side of wings and apple fritters. Everything was 'bussin' as the kids say. Loved the flavor on the burgers fries and wings.

Google
This spot has one of the best fried chicken sandwiches in San Francisco. You definitely need to try both the original and the spicy versions. The heat on the spicy one is pretty intense, even with just a sprinkle of Sriracha powder. They’ve got plenty of outdoor seating, and the service is super fast and efficient. Plus, they’ve got happy hour for drinks! If you're looking for a fast-casual place that really delivers, I can’t recommend this place enough. It’s a solid choice all around!

Google
Security in my building recommend this place. What a disappointment, burger was OK, tater tots were missing salt, place wasn't very clean, and the people working there didn't seem to really like their job. Needless to say, i won't go back. Not recommended, go somewhere else.

Google
The chicken sandwich was amazing and I can see why there was so much buzz around it. Little bit pricey but similar to all other restaurants/ similar joints around. Salad could have been much better and a bigger portion chicken included. Curly fries were awesome, hash browns were great plus loved all the sauces.

*11/21/2023 The crispy chicken, house-made apple slaw, mayo, and pickles on a freshly toasted bun deliver a perfect balance of flavors. The spice level is spot-on, and the portion size is satisfying. The cozy ambiance and friendly service enhance the dining experience. 10/20/2023 I ordered the Naked Bird, which is essentially just the chicken without the bun, and it came with a side of their house-made apple slaw. I also got their Curly Fries. Both items were absolutely delicious. The chicken was well-seasoned and had the perfect level of spiciness. 7/28/2023 I tried The Bird and opted for their Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwich, which includes their House-made apple slaw, mayo, and pickles on a freshly toasted bun, and ordered a side of curly fries. While the food arrived after a reasonable 15-minute wait, I must admit that the overall experience left much to be desired. The Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwich was decent, but it failed to leave a lasting impression. The level of spiciness was underwhelming, which was a disappointment for someone like me who enjoys a little kick in their meal. Additionally, one of the drawbacks was that the staff forgot to include the chipotle aioli condiment that I paid extra for, which further impacted my enjoyment of the sandwich.

Yelp
Walked up to order on a computer. Ordered the spicy fried chicken biscuit sandwich, mango habanero fried chicken sandwich and loaded tots. The only downfall of not having someone at the counter was the ability to ask how spicy the Chicken biscuit was going to be....holy cow it was like level 10000 spicy for me! It was levels spicy above the mango habanero. I couldn't really enjoy my chicken biscuit but the rest of the food was delicious! The actual biscuit was soft and delicious. The apple fritters were absolutely delicious and a reason to come back. They also have a good selection of fountain drinks and beers which is also a plus There wasn't too many people in there so it was accommodating to our stroller!

Yelp
Ordered the classic hot chicken sandwich and it hit the spot!! I liked this place more than Dave's hot chicken since I feel like the chicken is a lot more flavorful/well seasoned. Would come back again if I'm craving a hot chicken sandwich!

Yelp
Wow. These geniuses turned a dive bar into a super popular chicken sandwich restaurant. The food is so good they didn't even have to pay to redecorate the place. The fry on the chicken and tots and fries were excellent. The chicken sandwich was the star for me. They use the tried and true formula for a fried chicken sandwich and execute it to perfection. They use pickle and a slaw. Normally I hate the slaw they use at other restaurants and it conflicts with the taste of the chicken. When I saw the slaw on the birds sandwich, I was worried. But I found the slaw used at the bird to be perfectly complimentary. The sandwich was perfectly toasted and fried making it an excellent sandwich. The fries and the tots were also excellent. Also, since this is a dive bar, the selection of drinks were great

Yelp
This hit the spot!! Satisfied my chicken sandwich craving with The Bird. The batter wasn't too thick, chicken wasn't dry, and I really appreciated the toasty bun. Presentation was nice and pretty but the only thing was the contents were shoved towards the front of the sandwich. Lost a lot of slaw.. Nonetheless this was a great standard fried chicken sandwich. Next time I'm going to order tater tots on the side. Service was great, servers were patient and kind. They also have a self-serve water station and plenty of seating inside to eat.

Yelp
Walked in and got my food within 10 minutes. The prices were very reasonable. Enjoyed the portion and chicken for the fried chicken sandwich but wish I got the spicy version instead for some more heat. Obsessed with the loaded tots. They were perfectly crispy and flavorful. I was a bit disappointed with the chicken biscuit. It was more biscuit than chicken and the sauce used was too overpowering. Good for a quick bite!

Yelp
I was really pleased with my visit to The Bird. I went on a weekend during lunchtime, and the place was quite busy. Despite that, the service was super quick. I loved the self-ordering kiosk, which allowed me to browse the menu in more detail. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich with curly fries, while my boyfriend got the same but with loaded fries. The portion sizes are very generous. I was extremely full after just a few bites and could barely finish my meal. The spice is also pretty good as well! Had my nose running a little haha. The only thing I would change for next time is to order extra toppings, like slaw and pickles. I found that I couldn't taste them enough, and the chicken-to-bun ratio was off (the chicken was much bigger than the bun, making it a bit difficult to eat.) The fries were tasty and crunchy just how I like it! The loaded fries tasted just like a baked potato. There is also plenty of seating available. Overall, I would highly recommend it!

Yelp
The apple fritters here are super delicious! I ordered via postmates and these are a MUST when eating here!

Yelp
Juicy, juicy fried chicken sandwich delight. This location is very central in Hayes Valley, and one of my savior spots when it I'm in a pinch for dinner. I've only gotten the original fried chicken sandwich, but it's also the only thing I need-- great pickle crunch inside, and the meat is thick and tender. (My friends also like the spicy one but I'm weak). You order at the counter and there's a few tall skinny tables inside to eat - casual spot. The salad is mid but that's fine.
google avatar

Yelp
A very middle of the road chicken sandwich. Nothing that would really put it above, say, a Popeyes, but it gets job done. The fries were decent too.

Yelp
The Bird is a great spot for American chicken sandwiches/fried/tots/burgers. There is more than ample seating and they are connected to a great bar- Afterwork Bar (great happy hour lotería Monday's). The Bird has quality food for a great price! I got a spicy chicken biscuit and tots for ~$6.5ish. 10/10, the chicken was juicy, spicy. I like their biscuit, falling apart delicious! The tots were got that crunchy outside, soft inside. I was served everything hot/fresh! The service was good, I waited a bit for the food, but it was worth it for sure! A great place to meet up with friends, have good food/drinks and not breaking the bank!

Yelp
The chicken sandwich is really good, but they get a full 5 stars because, on top of that, the cost was shockingly reasonable for SF. Please keep it up!! The guy at the counter was really friendly and happy to describe things on the menu. The place looks new and immaculately clean. I didn't even notice the outdoor seating in the back at first, but it seems like there's plenty of space throughout. Beware of all the spice and deep fried goodness! Fried Chicken Sandwich and Curly Fries: I'm not a fried chicken sandwich or hot chicken expert, but this was delicious. The coating is crunchy, the chicken is juicy thigh meat (maybe controvertial, but I think it's more flavorful and tender in this application), ridge-cut pickles, and I think some kind of slaw. The chicken is coated with a full-bodied (actually spicy) sauce; that part gets a little drippy as you go, but that's to be expected. It's a winner. The curly fries were a good side! The Buffalo Bird and Tots: Similar to their classic sandwich, but with "spicy bird seasoning, kickin' ranch, celery, buffalo bird sauce" and a side of housemade sriracha. It was a fun, crunchy twist. The tots were tots. Nicely crisp with a side of ranch dressing. Apple Fritters: These are like maple (?) glazed donut holes with little chunks of tender apple inside. They were crisp and seemed made to order. You only get 3, but when was the last time you had a fresh dessert for $2.25?

Yelp
One word: SPICY! This was my first time trying the Bird, and I was disappointed. I ordered their original spicy chicken sandwich. They were quick to pump out the sandwiches, and there was a good amount of traffic on a Thursday night, so I thought this place might be worth it. However, when I took my first bite, all I could taste was spice--there was no other flavor, just heat on my lips. The chicken lacked seasoning and flavor to enhance its taste, making it bland in my opinion. It was slightly dry, too; it needed more sauce. I wouldn't come back again, there are better options around the area.

Yelp
TLDR: Craving a fried chicken sandwich or burger? Maybe add some tots or curly fries? In/near the neighborhood? Need to grab something quick to eat? Looking for a spot good for groups who want to pay individually and don't want/need liquor? Want to take your time and watch the world pass by on the sidealk outside? Pull up here! *partying face emoji* Longer: This is a fast casual, fried chicken sandwiches and tangential types of food spot with a second location in FiDi. I wouldn't have walked in here if it weren't for my boyfriend, but because of him, I've been here ~a dozen times over the last year as we live nearby, and what man doesn't want a fried chicken sandwich every so often? Order at the counter, grab whatever seats are open (when Hayes St is closed, there are often tables available in the middle of the street), and food comes out quickly, even when it's packed. If in a rush, order ahead via their online ordering form (https://order.toasttab.com/online/bird-hayes-valley). The food keeps fairly well, just don't let it sit for too long, as you may lose some crunch on your fried items. I'm not a fried chicken fan, but my boyfriend is, so on occasion, we find ourselves here -- I'll enjoy curly fries while he goes in on a sandwich or wings. Because we walk to the Bird, we often try a beer or two from the taps, and sometimes get a chance to try seasonal things we'd otherwise miss in grocery stores. Most recently (last week of Nov), we shared a Great White from Lost Coast Brewery -- nothing special/out of the ordinary, but a great pairing for a Buffalo Bird. Staff is always friendly, shared spaces are clean and sidewalk outside stays maintained after they close doors, which I appreciate as a neighbor.

Yelp
It took me a while to decide on where to eat dinner in San Fran, but this place was recommended by multiple people. If you're craving a killer chicken sandwich, The Bird is where it's at! The chicken sandwich was the star of the show. The fried chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, with just the right amount of spice to give it a kick. The bun was soft and the slaw and pickles added a nice crunch and tanginess. Definitely one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had in a while. I also got the tots, and they were everything you want in a side. They are perfect for sharing and goes great with the sandwich. I almost wish I ordered an extra one. The service was quick, even with the steady stream of customers. If you're in SF and love fried chicken, The Bird should absolutely be on your list!
google avatar

Susan B.

Yelp
Self order on a screen, take a number and find a seat and they'll bring out your order. The spicy chicken sandwich is surprisingly spicy so proceed with caution. The loaded fries are delicious.
google avatar

Samantha O.

Yelp
Chicken sandwiches that do not disappoint! I got the spicy fried chicken sandwich and the chicken was super crispy on the outside and juicy in the middle, paired with just the right amount of mayo. Great option for late night comfort food.
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
A fun chicken sandwich place with a simple menu, casual atmosphere, and affordable prices. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich with a side of fully loaded fries and apple fritters Pros - The chicken in the sandwich was juicy and a fair size - The fully loaded fries were great, if I come back I would order this again - The apple fritters were good. They're basically donut holes with apple flavored icing - The great value of the food makes this place easy to recommend - There's a small sit-down to enjoy the food Cons - Typically I like slaw but the slaw in the sandwich was a bit to too sweet for me due to the use of apples so I could not fully enjoy the sandwich however including slaw in the sandwich is optional - The portion size of the loaded fries were a bit small. If it were a little larger, even at a slightly higher cost, I'd be a lot happier

Yelp
The Bird used to be one of my favorite places to go get a meal. I feel like the quality of their food has decreased recently. One of the recent orders I made had hair in it as well. I ordered the buffalo wings during happy hour to give it a try. It was not good. It was just salty and did not have any flavor. I would recommend against it. Their usual wing that they always had was very small and was not good this time too. I usually really love their spicy wings but it was not great this time. Their sandwich and fries were fine. If you decide to eat in store, they have seats towards the back, and it is also connected to the bar next door so you can sit there too.
google avatar

Steph C.

Yelp
The Bird is consistently good for a quick meal. They also have Super Duper on the menu plus hh from 3-6. I think $1 off alcohol and a small discount on bites. My go to is always the spicy chicken with tator tots. I like that the meat is thick and bite sized on a biscuit. There is ample space - a small outdoor area, seating in the main area and a larger room in the back for large crowds filled with picnic tables. Staff are friendly and efficient.
google avatar

Janeesah H.

Yelp
I had the chicken biscuit and tots. Chicken was juicy, biscuit was a little dry, but the tots were nice and crispy. Paired it with a beer on draft. Server was kind and I got my food pretty fast. This is a great place to catch up with friends, watch a game, or participate in one of their activities like trivia night!
google avatar

Serena L.

Yelp
Came here for a quick bite before going to Bill Graham. Great place to get some filling food in you and to prepare your stomach for alcohol! Drinks here are also cheaper and tastier than those offered at BG, which is a huge plus if you plan on pregaming. Would definitely come back before an event or just to grab a chicken sandwich. Chicken sandwich - 5/5, the fried chicken looked like it was super fried and would be dry, but to my surprise it was really juicy and tender inside. Rum and coke - 4/5, not sure what the ratio of each is, but it was pretty good. Couldn't tell if what I was tasting was the rum or the coke at times haha.
google avatar

Samantha W.

Yelp
When i want to get a quick fried chicken sandwich in SF this is the spot. ~ $11 / sandwich and super quick service! what a juicy bird! I savored every bite of balance between the spicy crispy chicken, the pickles to cut through, and a soft sweet bun. You can pick your spicy level, not super hot where you need to sign a waiver, but enough where you will need a glass of water near by.
google avatar

Tiena L.

Yelp
I was excited to come here after going to the other location but this place didn't have the same vibe and the food wasn't as good. Maybe I just came here on an off day. It is in a great location with a lot of bars and restaurants.
google avatar

Jamila L.

Yelp
I love the food here! I believe the chicken is antibiotic free, which is what keeps me coming. The service is good. I have never had to wait too long for food, and the staff has been helpful. It's a cool and casual place to check out after a gym day nearby or on a hot cocoa run at the chocolate shop nearby! My usual order is the chicken biscuit with tots! They also have a great happy hour with wings and drinks. Do check them out! I highly recommend!
google avatar

June W.

Yelp
Hmmm. We were underwhelmed by the sandwich. We got the original fried chicken sando, not spicy version. Mayo on the side but added ourselves. The chicken was crunchy and not dried up. But it didn't seem to have much taste to it. The chicken was salty enough but there just wasn't much flavor. Kinda disappointing. The place was bustling, and had a casual vibe to it. We had the mayo on the side and had to ask for something to spread it on with. And had to ask for straws. Service seemed a bit lax.
google avatar

Eric B.

Yelp
The chicken sandwich was combined very well. The chicken was big, flavorful, and juicy. The Cole slaw, pickles, and mayo was in perfect portions to complement each other. The loaded tots were a little bit too salty probably from the seasoning with the cheese but I did enjoy what they were trying to do with all the different ingredients.
google avatar

Tiffany T.

Yelp
Ordered online on Friday around 5:45 pm. The order confirmation form said that it would be ready by 6:05 and so I arrived around that time and actually had to wait around another 20 minutes before I got the food. I ordered 2 of the chicken biscuit and tots. The tater tots here are honestly my favorite in the city. The spicy chicken also actually a good kick, which I appreciate. Since I was waiting for the food, it did come out hot and tasted good. Would definitely recommend allocating more time than you anticipate spending here though.
google avatar

Annie L.

Yelp
Came to the Bird to do take out Friday night and it didn't disappoint! I noticed the price was decent $10/burger which is cheaper than a lot of other fast food burgers nowadays. The burgers were gigantic, filled to the brim with large gigantic chicken and stuffed with condiments. Quality of the meat was good. Curly fries were hot & crunchy. This is a great stop for your burger cravings!
google avatar

Nathan Y.

Yelp
Great place in the SF area to get your hot chicken sandwich! It's very tasty, and you can't go wrong with the curly fries as well. There's multiple locations in the city, and while it isn't the largest restaurant, there's plenty of seating if you're planning to just get a quick bite and go. You order at the counter, then pick up your food on your own, similar to how some fast food restaurants do. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Tiffany N.

Yelp
Most affordable chicken sandwich in the Bay! Service was quick and the food also came out quick. I got the Buffalo Bird (lol you can see the receipt in the pic) and personally thought there was way too much buffalo sauce. It got way too messy than I'd like. The fried chicken sandwich wasn't that memorable but the curly fries were yummy. To be honest, I just came here because I wanted to know what the hype is about and I do see myself coming back sometime in the future.
google avatar

Tanisha M.

Yelp
This was one of the best fried chicken sandwiches I've ever had!! We were looking for a casual sit-down restaurant and The Bird hit the spot! The chicken was so juicy, crispy, and tender. For $10, this was a delicious and filling meal. The sandwich was huge and you really can't beat this price in SF. The curly fries were perfectly crispy and tasty too.
google avatar

Shan C.

Yelp
My spicy chicken "Sando" PROBABLY tasted amazing. I wouldn't know because my tongue got annihilated by the nuclear amount of spice on my chicken (refer to picture--the brown color on the chicken is all chili powder). I don't know if this was an assassination attempt or if it's usually this spicy. Despite me losing my ability to taste, I could still tell by texture this was a well made sandwich. The chicken is juicy and the apple coleslaw is bright. Probably recommend the regular chicken sandwich unless you like food SPICY--like sweating snotty drooling spicy. If you walk to the back there's another room with board games you can play.

Haris R.

Yelp
This is the most sorry sad salad I've ever paid for. I paid $18 ($8.75 for the salad + 8.00 for spicy chicken add on) and got 4 small slices of fried chicken in this very small bowl. I can pay 18 dollars for the same bowl, x2 the size, and more flavor/complexity at Souvla across the street with chicken or lamb included. I know starbird isn't any where nearby, but they charge the same amount for a salad and give WAY more. DO NOT buy the salad here and especially do not get an add on. Complete rip off...
google avatar

Denzel T.

Yelp
Recently checked out The Bird in Hayes Valley. I ended up going with the Spicy Chicken Sando and the tater tots while my friend got a Sando and the curly fries. First off, I think the sandwich was well seasoned and fried well. There was also a good sauce/topping ratio as well. I will say that the chicken portion isn't huge, BUT it is hard to beat a price of $10 for a fried chicken sandwich nowadays, especially in SF. I thought the tots were okay but they could've been crispier and seasoned better. Overall, I thought this was a good sandwich with excellent value. I'd also note that there was trivia going on in the back if that's something you're looking for!
google avatar

Marla B.

Yelp
Good service, though the extra mayo I asked for did not appear Fast - I blinked, less than 5 min. and I was eating Extremely reasonable - Chicken sand $10, Fries $4 Very generous portions and great bun on the sandwich Huge place - 3 separate rooms What I most appreciated was the price and the efficiency. But the Fried Chicken sandwich was nothing to write home about. Super bland. Curly fries, exactly what you would expect. "IF" I do go back, may go for the spicy chicken sandwich, in hopes it's better than the plain fried chicken sandwich.
google avatar

Mariam T.

Yelp
wowowowow. Both the classic and the spicy fried chicken sandwich are sooooo good, I can't decide which one I liked more! Every bite melts in your mouth, and the perfect pickle/slaw combo with juicy chicken and a soft bun is so well crafted. Hands down, this is one of the best fried chicken sammies I've had. I will DEFINITELY be coming back.
google avatar

Vivian H.

Yelp
A neighborhood staple! So satisfying, quick, consistent, affordable, and friendly. I usually get the spicy friend chicken sandwich but enjoy the option for naked or salad, or classic instead of spicy. The slaw is so good! Love trivia at AWB with an order from the bird - makings of a perfect night.
google avatar

Moises T.

Yelp
So good spicy and just a little bit of sweet It's open air and the service was nice I had to stop myself from getting a second one
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
The Bird has become one of our go to spots whenever we're in the neighborhood. The menu is pretty solid and the items are well priced. That's a winning combination right there! I usually like to order spicy chickens but I might actually like the regular sando a bit more. Bonus- tater tots, and who doesn't like those?
google avatar

Daniel D.

Yelp
Ordered ahead of time so pick up was really easy. Looks kinda rustic on the inside which is nice, but the back room for more seating really has a more welcoming energy and the shade really helps. Gets kinda busy during the lunch hour, understandable. The tots were honestly good! They still had held a crisp after like 15 minutes and tasted like potatoes. The sandwich was really good. Spicy breading but fairly juicy chicken. Pickles definitely help.
google avatar

Linda H.

Yelp
Second time having bird ...although i don't usually seek out fried chicken sandwiches. This one nails it! The pickled veggies is what makes it for me. Huge piece of chicken, flavored perfectly. So good.
google avatar

Sandy L.

Yelp
I had high hopes for this place as many of my friends raved about it. My sandwich was a bit tasteless and I had to use ketchup to enhance flavors. Service was good, the cashier was staring intently as my friend & I were making our decision as to what we'd like to order. I appreciate her for telling us the spicy level when we asked (6 or 7 out of 10 on the spice level). My friend ordered it expecting a kick but she wasn't phased by it. Ambiance was okay -- spacious with seating against the walls. I noticed while waiting for food was that there was a mix up with food pick up; and another guest was double charged for their meal. Im sure The Bird is amazjng but I wouldn't come back to this facility.

Okay folks, it's chicken sammy time. Or, as The Bird calls it - chicken sando! I'll keep this one quick. A friend of mine recommended this spot for a chicken sando at lunch. For $19.70 I dined-in with a chicken classic sando, tots, and a Diet Coke. The shop is nestled in Hayes Valley and has some casual barstool seating at 7-9 ish tables inside, and a couple tables on the sunny curb. There are fans inside as well which keeps a cool and fresh atmosphere. The first bite of the sando was delectable. It's not southern fried, but I think a corn flour variant- the crust is dark, seasoned well, and had crisp. The sando is topped with coleslaw, mayo, and a long pickle slice. Honestly, it was a delicious sandwich. As I review, I try to keep in mind what a 5/5 would be-- my socks would need to be in pieces (blown off). And I wasn't blown away. 4s abound and I feel like it's easy to give a 4. I'd say it's a 3.6. A solid work lunch no doubt about it. But I'm terms of the city at large (this is in Hayes valley) and chicken sammys as a whole... I think this is fair. Keep in mind the sauces you order at the counter are $0.50.

Yelp
This is my go-to for burgers! Their beef is top-tier, and even with my customizations, it's always delicious. The spicy chicken sandwich is great too, but I can't resist their burgers. Always delivered warm and quick and the value is awesome.

Yelp
This place used to be very good. Just after the pandemic the winds were big and juicy. The last 3 times I've come here the wings are smaller, dryer, and overcooked. I don't know if management changed or what but this def isn't worth the price. The apple fritter still slap tho.

Yelp
In my opinion The Bird has the best fried chicken sandwiches in San Francisco. I absolutely love the flavor. Simple menu, either classic or spicy, I always go for classic but their spicy sandwich is very good too just too spicy for my taste. Oh and if you are craving a burger, they service Super Duper burgers. You must get their curly fries. They are yummy. I love their Hayes Valley location and I have great memories from their New Montgomery location. The space is very casual and if you are off of work you grab a draft beer with your sandwich. Street parking only, which could be tricky in Hayes Valley so always try to park on Grove or Fulton and walk a block or two. Highly recommended. Seriously the best fried chicken sandwich you'll find in the city.

Yelp
There is something slightly foreboding about the prospect of an evening stopover in Hayes Valley before a concert or a show: you know that all the restaurants are going to be full, and there's going to be nowhere to eat. Luckily, that isn't strictly true. There will be a cozy space at The Bird, and they're going to serve a delicious chicken sandwich, and it's not going to cost a small fortune. What could be more community value oriented than good food served at a good price?

Yelp
I've ordered both takeout and dined in here, and every experience has been fantastic. The food quality is consistent whether you're eating at the restaurant or taking it home. The fried chicken sandwich is always crispy, flavorful, and made to perfection. The staff is friendly, and they keep the atmosphere lively and welcoming. Service is quick, so it's a solid choice whether you're in a rush or want to sit down and enjoy. I highly recommend The Bird for anyone craving a top-notch fried chicken sandwich!
