The Best Seafood Restaurants in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"Boiling Crab dominates Southern California. Since 2004, the local chain has opened 11 locations from Woodland Hills to Santa Ana. On any given day, a line forms outside any Boiling Crab of diners waiting for servers delivering hot plastic bags filled with boiled crawfish, lobster, king crab, or unpeeled shrimp with a side of corn cobs, smoked pork and beef sausage links, and red potato wedges. Boiling Crab is loud, busy, and one of the best stops to find casual Cajun-style boiled seafood." - Mona Holmes

The Boiling Crab - Review - Burbank - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"In an outdoor minimall off Magnolia, this Cajun seafood spot is big, loud, and extremely messy. The set-up is simple - choose your super-fresh seafood (we like the shrimp), your seasoning, spice level, and sides, and then about 15 minutes later someone will put a plastic bag full of seafood on your paper-topped table. There are no plates and no utensils (unless you order crab, which comes with a cracker), but you will get a plastic bib and plenty of napkins. It’s a fun place for a group dinner where everyone will end up with a red ring of sauce around their mouths." - Jess Basser Sanders

Boiling Crab was so good! The shrimp and crab were super tasty, especially with the Whole Sha-Bang sauce. It’s messy but fun! Loved the fries and potatoes too. Great place to eat with friends and get your hands dirty.

Google
There could be a better TV display. The food is actually amazing and they have a great price for fried food. The sea food is based on market price. This place can have a couple more options for seasoning. Then it would be even better. The secret sauces?

Google
The amazing service and such great food is both reasons why I keep coming back!

Google
The service was great. The food was not. Mussels were fine. Shrimp was slightly overcooked but good overall. The crawfish were awful. Normally we get the live crawfish but they didnt have them so we got the frozen ones. Literally inedible. The sausage is normally good but it tasted like it it had been cooked for a period of about 3 hours. Just mushy and texturally awful. The potatoes were probably the best bite of everything. The corn was mid. Eggs were just ok. The snow crab was ok.

Google
It was our first time here. I wish we had known about the wait times and possibly not getting a table. We signed up for the wait list and then, after 20 minutes, decided to get takeout. Great option for us since we just wanted to eat. The food was amazing 10/10. Everyone was nice, knowledgeable, and helpful. Their communication is great too, especially for a busy restaurant.

Google
My first time here and I actually liked it. The service was very good. Mary waited on our table. She walked us thru the process and helped with our order and we enjoyed our dinner very much. But the wait time was pretty long 45 minutes to।an। hour. So we chose to sit outside (a little bit cold temp) to save the wait time. The price was very reasonable. I was expecting to pay more, but to our surprise, it was under $45 for 3 people. I definitely look forward to going back there soon.

Google
Very good food, the sauce on the crabs I had was really good, very flavorful and rich. The staff were nice but the place is a little short-staffed so things were a little slow. It was also a little excessively noisy, I'm not sure why. But overall, definitely four stars, and maybe next time I'll upgrade to five. I'm still remembering that sauce!

Google
Elsie and her whole team made our dining experience so amazing. Best seafood boil location I've ever been to (and I'm from Louisiana. I've been to the LEGIT spots!). Also it's one of the only places in L.A. with good fried catfish! I LOVE this place!!!

Lissette

Yelp
This is one of my top favorite places to eat seafood. Staff is always friendly and Erwin always follows up with all tables to see if you need anything. They have an outside patio so you can enjoy eating in the patio. I love their lemon pepper fries and calamari it's definitely chefs kiss and obviously their shrimp I love all their food I can't complain about anything. I definitely recommend this spot to go with family and friends.

Yelp
The best service is amazing and the food excellent Son los mejores no importa el tiempo que tenga que esperar pero vale la pena la esperar porque la comida está deliciosa el servicio también es de primera muy amables los meseros

Yelp
Food was great. service was fantastic. everything was fresh and i will be returning soon! Irwin had excellent customer service.

Yelp
Great food, but you have to wait! Boiling Crab offers amazing seafood that is always fresh and flavorful. I love their Cajun and lemon pepper seasonings, and also the mussels, crab legs, corn and potatoes are my favorites. However, you can't make reservations, which can be frustrating. Every time I go, I have to give my phone number and wait quite a long time to be seated. The food is definitely worth the wait, but it would be so much better if they had a reservation system.

Yelp
I used to love this place. And this would be my go to. However after this past Saturday, Sept 16th, my husband had the worst food poisoning. He was in a lot of pain all day on Sunday and Monday. It seems like some of the shrimp was not cooked well. We ordered the 3lb shrimp full shabam xxx. This is something we always ordered. I would highly recommend they do a quality check to ensure that all the food is cooked. I understand it is a busy restaurant and Saturday happened to be busy but that didn't mean for the to go orders to be neglected.
google avatar

Yelp
Long Wait and Declining Quality I've been to this Cajun/seafood restaurant a few times, but after my last visit, I'm not sure I'll be returning. The wait time was ridiculously long--I waited two hours to be seated, which was incredibly frustrating. On top of that, the food has been declining in quality. What used to be a great dining experience just isn't the same anymore. The flavors and freshness have noticeably gone downhill, making the long wait even more disappointing. It's sad to see how much this place has changed, and I wouldn't recommend it given how much it's slipped.
google avatar

Yelp
We came opening time on Sunday and there's a few people waiting but plenty of seats available. Service was good, not going to name drop but service was just good. The garlic butter snow crab was the most underwhelming thing ever. We've gone to a few boiling crab locations before and it was delicious. This was so below average at least it was edible. Really no flavour crabs tasted like nothing super disappointing. We also got shrimp in a different sauce and that was better. I always get a pound of snow crab any Cajun boil and it's always been my fav. Super dissatisfied with this location probably won't be back! The wings were perfect. Only thing saving this review! Overall wasn't the worst experience just tasteless meh.

Yelp
Typically not a huge fan of coming to The Boiling Crab these days given that the menu is limited compared to other seafood boil restaurants and the line is always long. But my friend wanted to do her birthday here, so we came. Waited nearly two damn hours before sitting down, but what can you do. Anyways, got four pounds of shrimp, one pound of clam, some sausages, and some potatoes with The Whole Sha-Bang. Wasn't feeling like paying premium price for king crab. Shrimp was fine, plenty of flavor as expected. I'm not really a potato guy, but they were actually pretty good with the sauce. And of course I always love me some sausages. Service is great here. They made sure to keep filling up our waters and bring gloves over, which you will need many of since the oil actually seeps through the gloves. Definitely were taken care of. The food is always going to be good here, and you will never leave disappointed. It's just the wait always sucks.

Yelp
One of the staple places for shrimp boil, and I'm so glad I visited this location in LA. Located in a shopping plaza, there is plenty of parking in nearby lots and a lively ambiance to walk around. They started to fill up around 12:30pm on a Sunday, and my large party of 10 got seated in 15-20 min. They have both indoor and outdoor seating and a handwashing station (comes in super handy for a big party!) My go to order is a pound of shrimp, the whole shebang, mild (5/5), and this location delivered. Food was out for our party in about 20 min. We also got the Cajun fries (5/5), side orders of rice, and potatoes and corn on the inside of our bags. I love dipping my peeled shrimp back in the sauce, and in the lemon, salt, and pepper mixture. Overall, a great experience at this boiling crab location!

Yelp
I love this place! very friendly staff always following up to see if we need anything. fast service compere to other places. overall great food. I always come with family and friends.

Yelp
Be prepared to wait a lengthy period of time. Food was decent but not worth the hype or length of time to wait for a table. The server was attentive.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
I recently dined at The Boiling Crab, and unfortunately, it was a letdown. The food didn't live up to the long wait--most notably, the mussels were in poor condition and quite off-putting. Surprisingly inside one of the muscles was this really small gray crab looking thing. While the service was decent and the staff was friendly enough, it wasn't enough to make up for the lackluster meal. I expected much better quality for the price. I'm not sure I'd return or recommend it.

Yelp
I absolutely love boiling crab, and always find myself coming back to satisfy my craving. I like that this boiling crab you're able to check in on Yelp, just because this place can get pretty packed especially on a Friday night. However, be mindful that they have a cutoff to check in on Yelp after a certain time. The food is always delicious. I normally get a pound of shrimp, the whole shabang (garlic and Cajuns seasoning) with rice and Cajun fries medium. To be honest, it seemed like the shrimp was not as spicy today but the fries were very spicy. The vibe of the restaurant is open, lots of tv to watch any sporting events that are taking place. I feel that this location does not do a good job of accommodating large parties, we went as a group of 7 and had to sit at this small table and pretty much bumping elbows the whole night. Our server was not the best either, had to clarify with him 3 times our order and somehow still got it wrong. However, we will still come back to eat at this boiling crab

Yelp
The food was so good and so fresh every time I come here it's soo amazing !!! I only waited 40 minutes and I was called to be seated. Super fast compared to other times . Everyone was super helpful and. Very understanding even the manager came to check up on us. Our server was extraordinary. Thank you so much for great service. This is my go to spot I love it. So worth coming here you get treated right, with respect and they are very patient.

Yelp
I was very Happy with a customer service and especially the FOOD was so amazing. I would definitely come back here again, the staff were very friendly and helpful. Even the manager came down to our table and asked us if everything is alright. Overall 10/10 Food, Customer service excellent.

Yelp
where do I start from? Let me start off with the service. It was great... the waitress was very attentive which was nice. She answered all our questions and brought us everything we needed. Next the food was so delicious. This was my first time eating Louisiana style seafood and I loved it. We ordered the Alaskan king crab, clams, shrimp, and Cajun fries. All were amazing. I do have to mention I wish they would take reservations because the wait time is actually insane. We waited 2 hrs to be seating ... YES it was worth it but I wish they could take reservations. Can't wait to come back ...

Yelp
The last time I was at Boiling Crab was at its original location in Alhambra. This one used to be in Burbank and so much bigger. We got there at 5:50pm on Friday and the wait was already 30-40 mins and within the hour, it went up to 75 mins. Be warned that they will not seat you unless your entire party is there. They will hold your table for a bit until everyone arrives. I personally was not thrilled with my meal. The seafood is great and jumbo shrimp was very jumbo, but I didn't like that they would cook our entire order together. Shrimp had to be cooked separately from the crab. Everything is ordered as a side, so corn, potatoes, sausages are all separate. The sauce was good, but needs much more garlic. I think our local crab boil here in SCV is much better. Make sure to ask for gloves or they won't offer it.

Griselda M.

Yelp
THANKS MARIO He was amazing with customer service and was very polite and professional. I will return to be treated like I was today

Yelp
I made a reservation for my group of 4 friends and I. Upon arrival we gave our info for the waiting list. We waited for over an hour and decided to go and see if we can be seated, they then gave us some lame excuse about not being able to take anymore customers for seating but offered us to take takeout. Not only did they seem super careless but there was no communication of any kind. They had our names, info, and even phone numbers and said nothing until we came in and asked. I'm never coming to this specific place again. Trash
google avatar

Caroline D.

Yelp
I had such a fun dinner at The Boiling Crab! It was really nice to be able to fully customize my meal - we ordered clams, shrimp, crawfish, crab, veggies, & gumbo. Everything was really flavorful & had the perfect amount of heat (we opted for medium). Our food came out quickly too. They even have great margaritas. It is insanely messy though - so be prepared to not wear white or touch your phone until your meal is complete. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
If you know, you know. This is literally my favorite place in the world lol. I've been to many a seafood boil restaurant and in my opinion, The Boiling Crab is the best. But hey...I definitely still have others to try. It's The Whole Shabang Sauce, honestly. I like it spicy...but medium spicy is just fine for me. At this point, I'm low key addicted to it. I admit it. But it truly brings me joy. Service is always exceptional, and I love the fact that I get a bib and table cloth. I also love the casual vibes. Best. Follow yanniceecee on the socials for more. Jokes and great food await. Hahaha

Yelp
Waited like 20 mins to get a bottle of beer and water and wing was terrible this time so salty.. and so dark brown overcooked and dry. I know manager or owner walked around but please focus on fried food too..

Yelp
LOVE BOILING CRAB would sell my kidney for this place! Service is always 10/10! Ambiance is fun you get a little messy but it's SOOOO worth it!! Love the food here
google avatar

Yelp
I've always loved the boiling crab, but I particularly love this location. The food is excellent and never disappoints. The staff is amazing, if not even better than the food and the food is pretty darn good. From the moment you walk in you feel welcomed. Can't say enough amazing things about everyone who works here. Irwin, the manager is especially accommodating to everyone who is dining at the restaurant. Set right in the heart of the AMC walkway in downtown Burbank, perfect location to go and grab something to eat and see a movie right after. Everything is always so clean and tidy as well! 10 out of 10 highly recommend anyone who is a seafood lover to come and give this place a try!

MAYRA S.

Yelp
I have been to several Boiling Crabs and this is my favorite location. The staff is attentive and I rarely have mistakes with our order. Thumbs up for the online waitlist. The only downside is that this establishment closes the online waitlist during holidays and weekends (Friday-Sunday) . Great Job Burbank Boiling Crab Team!
google avatar

Annie H.

Yelp
When I visited with a group, we all thought we just didn't like seafood boil. Since then, I visited a few other places and realized that the shrimp and crab legs here just taste abnormally "fishy". Don't get me wrong, the sauce, corn, potatoes, and fries were amazing. The actual seafood itself wasn't as much. The all 3 sauce is pretty amazing though!
google avatar

Lae W.

Yelp
Love this place. Get there early though. They get busy quick. Have been there a few times and service has been good!

Adriana V.

Yelp
THE BEST SHRIMP PLACE EVER !!!! the food is AMAZING. My kids can eat the chicken tenders and fries there too so it's super convenient. My shrimp is always on point and the sauce ‍ Never misses!! All the staff is super friendly and the managers are constantly checking to see if everything is ok with your order. I love the vibes and how comfortable they make you feel!!
google avatar

Mireille D.

Yelp
Such a fun experience coupled with good drinks, fresh sea food and the tastiest combinations. Plus you eat with your hands, what's better than that?

Henry C.

Yelp
Good service. The micheladas are bomb. Shrimp is always on point. Waitlist is not the best but the wait is worth.
google avatar

Yelp
The food is always delicious and the service is awesome. They are quick to take your order, and serve you. The staff works well and they take care of you from start to finish. Most times I order their Cajun Mild Shrimp and their amazing lemon pepper fries

Yelp
Delicious food as I requested and more,, but the rice need little more salt and thanks so much for great service

Yelp
Love The Boiling Crab! The shrimp is always cooked perfectly and the whole shabang sauce is cajun garlic butter heaven! There is usually a wait but they move fast to get you seated.

Yelp
This spot never disappoints! Definitely a 4.5/5!! I've been here at least a dozen times now and it's always a very decent experience. It's also always a little messy as you're mostly eating with your hands. I'd recommend not wearing a brand new white shirt although they do provide disposable plastic bibs to protect you from any splatters. It's located near the Burbank mall so it's very walkable from the various parking lots around the area. Our go to order is always the calamari, an order of the Cajun fries (mild), and 2lbs of the shrimp, whole shabang (medium) - lately we've added the sausage and corn. This is plenty of food for two people and after tip it's usually about $85. The food has consistently been good. The fries are always very crispy and the calamari are huge and seasoned well. The sausage has not disappointed - it's a little smoky and one link is a generous addition. The whole shebang has been a game changer. You definitely need to get this sauce as it's a mix of all their sauces. It's garlicky, it's lemony and spicy depending on the spice level you choose. The medium is a perfect middle ground for anyone who likes spiciness but doesn't want to sweat the whole meal. We once got the hot, and it was too much for us. However, my one complaint is that the spiciness is sometimes inconsistent. Sometimes the medium is perfect and other times it comes out either too spicy or too mild. The service here has been consistently OK. Sometimes it's much faster and a few times we've had issues flagging down a refill. Their service model is more team oriented so different people will be coming up to you and helping as needed. The main issue with the service comes from them being really busy. It'll take a little longer to get your food when they are super busy and we have often had the shrimp boil come before the fries and calamari. I am impressed with how quickly they buss down the tables and how stocked the wash station is. The restaurant itself is not very big on the inside but they do often accommodate large groups. I've seen parties of 20 seated in the middle of the restaurant with all the tables put together. The patio outside is also very nice when it's not too cold or hot. My biggest recommendation for this place is to be patient! They are very popular on the weekends and for dinner. My longest wait time was an hour and half at 7pm on a Friday but the average wait time is about ~30 mins. You can sometimes also add yourself to the wait list on Yelp but at peak times they tend to shut that option off. It's been worth the wait so far and with the shops around it's very easy to kill some time! I love coming here for a date night and it's also a great spot to meet with friends as it's super shareable. If you don't mind the mess this place is awesome!!

Yelp
I don't live in LA but anytime I'm down here I make some time to stop by , hubby and I love it. Food is always good , service is fast and friendly . It's always full of energy , great for any occasion ! I will return and recommend always . FYI they now have a time frame for how long you can occupy a table. It's reasonable considering the place is busy !

Glenys C.

Yelp
Food is delicious! Service is good as well! Always super happy when visiting. Environment is great as well. Everyone is just there to eat and have a good time!
google avatar

Roland C.

Yelp
Wonderful service and experience! This is our go to place when we crave for some seafoods, crabs and the like. This place maybe packed but it's fast and worth the wait!
google avatar

Sonnie S.

Yelp
The food is good here but don't come here at night in weekend if you just walk-in. They will put you in the waiting list with no guaranty. They will make you wait for nothing and hungry. Why just tell the truth that they are full for the night. Be honest to the customer and don't make them wait for nothing.
google avatar

Bob P.

Yelp
Rating is based on me - I am not a huge fan of this kind of restaurant generally, but if you like big portions of boiled seafood or fried seafood that creates a huge fun mess on the table, you would rate this a 5. I did not take photos as there was sauce all over my hands. I ordered the shrimp - solid portion. Shells stuck to the shrimp, which means it was over cooked. We got the oysters too - great tasting, but super small and $30 for a dozen!! Yikes! The crab legs were good. For 4 people the bill was $200 with food and 5 beers
google avatar

Yelp
Erwin, Mary and the entire staff at this location have amazing customer service and the foods amazing. Thank you so much!

Ambar L.

Yelp
Great service great food our fav place for shrimp great ambiance ...............................................
google avatar

McKenna S.

Yelp
Service was great--even with a full restaurant they constantly checked on us. I got the crawfish, whole shebang seasoning, which is always top notch. My only complaints is that they only had limes, not lemons. I've been to other boiling crab locations so I'm not sure why this one didn't have lemons, but it definitely was a bit of a let down. Outside of that, everything was great.
google avatar

Britania G.

Yelp
Worst service Give you dry ass shrimp and still expect you to pay 5$ dollars for extra sauce bc they're shrimp was sauce less LMAO
google avatar

Chuck D.

Yelp
I'm probably one of the last people to finally try The Boiling Crab. I know, I know.... How could I not? They were always so crowded, I thought, so I just stayed away. I don't mind eating with my hands, so it wasnt that. The crowds and waiting and being messy... all of that kept me away. Until now. Ha! We had an 18th birthday luncheon for my nephew so we went to the Burbank location of TBC. We were a party of about 18 people. We got there just as they opened so waiting was not an issue for us at all. Whew! We ordered sweet potato fries and lemon pepper wings. The fries were just ok but the lemon pepper wings were pretty good. Strong lemon flavor but I liked it. We also got shrimp, corn & sausage with the whole sha-bang. That was really tasty. I liked it. And I also like that there is a hand washing station for the dining room. In fact it was right by our table. Service was very good. They were very attentive, informative for a first-timer like me and we appreciated that. The entire party liked their meals, especially the youngsters. I shouldnt have waited so long. Free parking in the nearby structure near the movie theaters. Street parking is a tough score. Restaurant just opened for the day so it was spotless. This was a Saturday.

Yelp
Ahoy! There be savory seafood in downtown Burbank! A personal go-to before/after a movie date, after hiking the mall, or a night out with family/friends. There's no shortage of great dining options in downtown Burbank-the question is, which of them will have you dripping in tangy, sweet seafood juices? The Boiling Crab, tharrr be who! And YES, they give you a bib. * ALWAYS BUSY! Arrive early & reserve your spot on the Yelp waitlist! * There's an adjacent parking structure and plenty of (indoors/non-heated outdoor patio) but expect a wait. Food: The menu is simple. Choose your catch (Crab, crab legs, crawfish, shellfish, shrimp). Next pick your flavor and spice level. As a spice fan - "mild" is spicy, but manageable. Flavor wise, the whole sha-bang seasoning (a combo of Rajun Cajun, Lemon Pepper, and Garlic Sauce) is the winner. Fried options are also fun and filling, from wings (Cajun or Lemon Pepper) to oysters, chicken, calamari, and shrimp. Carb it up with Cajun fries, Crabber fries, and potatoes. Throw in some complimentary fresh squeezed lemon and salt/pepper and you're set for a tabletop seafood feast! Thirsty? Let's cheers to domestic beers, margaritas, and Micheladas - salud! My fave: (2) lbs. shrimp, no spice/mild, The Whole Sha-Bang sauce w/ corn (feeds two ppl.). I have yet to try this boiling crab but it's going to be drowned in golden delicious butter first! My recommendation: Nobody asked, but an extra that would compliment the menu and make this SF City boy hella happy, would be fresh sourdough garlic bread, or baskets of small, warm french baguettes. That would be a nice bonus for soaking up them seafood juices (and building DIY po' boys). Service: In all of my dining experiences I can say with full confidence, The Boiling Crab, Burbank has proven to uphold some of the best, most reliable service in town (and post-covid 2020, that says a LOT). Ambiance: Sports fans have their big screens, families have the TV's, hip tunes, and a friendly, casual atmosphere where they can feed everyone a relatively healthy meal at a reasonable, market price. A community hand washing station is very helpful after peeling a pound of shrimp. Not to mention the abundance of downtowns storefronts along San Fernando, including the movie theater, and the mall. Plus FREE parking! Why wouldn't you come back? If not to stop and take a selfie with Batman before handling some scrimps. Thank you Boiling Crab, Burbank!

Yelp
The Boiling Crab is a go-to spot for affordable and flavorful seafood, especially their Cajun sauce, which is perfect mixed in with rice. Don't be afraid to get messy--it's all part of the fun! The shrimp, corn, and potatoes are essentials, delivering a satisfying and spicy kick that makes the experience memorable. It's a great choice for those craving a casual, hands-on meal with bold flavors.

Giffram C.

Yelp
This was my first time having seafood boil and it was really good. I didn't really know how the menu worked or what to get but my waitress was very helpful. The shrimp and the crab legs were delicious with shabang sauce but funny enough, the fries were easily the best part of the meal. The lemon pepper fries were so crispy and flavorful. The restaurant has a nice old school/fisherman theme going on.
