"This Stoke Newington spot is from the people behind The Canton Arms and The Anchor and Hope. They’re now delivering family meals like chicken pie and duck cassoulet for three, as well as wine and beer. Order here before 6pm for next day delivery." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak
"The Clarence Tavern is another gastropub from a lineage of excellent London gastropubs. Older siblings the Anchor & Hope and the Canton Arms are two of the most consistently great pubs for food—that still maintain a feeling of comforting pub-ishness. The Clarence on Stoke Newington Church Street is somewhere that feels like it’s been making roast cod, slow-cooked lamb shoulder with dauphinoise, and other modern European-leaning dishes forever. It manages to make lots of effort seem effortless, and it’s as good inside as it is outside." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, sinead cranna
"The Clarence is the latest gastropub from the people behind the Canton Arms and The Anchor & Hope. It’s on Stoke Newington Church Street and, like those two, it serves excellent food - from rösti to roast hake - and it also has a roomy back terrace that’s completely protected from the elements." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak
"Sitting in The Clarence’s cheerful dining room is a lovely thing. Combine that with a portion of their gratin dauphinois and, well, you’re in heaven. You should know up front that you won’t find any yorkshires on the menu here, but the Stoke Newington gastropub is a family Sunday favourite with the kind of menu that guarantees a pop of the button and an enormous contented sigh. Expect to see some kind of large portion of beautifully cooked meat on the menu—a beef short rib, a shoulder of lamb—alongside an onion and girolle tart or other vegetarian options." - jake missing, sinead cranna, rianne shlebak, heidi lauth beasley
"The Clarence Tavern, a Stoke Newington gastropub, is best-known for its family-friendly atmosphere and tender slow-roasted lamb shoulder, but this summer, the football will be on in the bar area. Not every game will be shown (expect England and knockouts to be the priority), but tables are bookable and there will be a special bar menu too. If the chips and the guinea fowl terrine are anything to go by, then it bodes very well." - jake missing
