The Best New Bars in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"Taking over the long-vacant Lodge Sports Grille space, the Greenwood is a classy addition to its increasingly buzzworthy neighborhood of the same name. While this is a full-service white tablecloth sort of joint, the expansive bar is worth a shout. Helmed by beverage director Blake Micheletto — returning to Seattle after years in Las Vegas, Miami, and abroad — the wine list and cocktail program reflects his global industry experience. The current frontrunners are the King’s Ransom, a Manhattan-esque cocktail with a blend of amaros, and the house Perfect Martini with Japanese gin. And did we mention there’s an equally sophisticated mocktail menu?" - Brianna Gunter

The Best New Restaurants in the Seattle Area, March 2025

"In November, chef Grant Rico, the former exec chef at Seabird, has opened up the Greenwood American Bistro with his biz partner and (former culinary school roommate) Or’el Anbar. They’re doing new American dinner service, as well as a weekend brunch program. Standouts are the braised lamb in black garlic mole with Brussels and sunchokes, a huge and cheesy lion’s mane mushroom sandwich with red onion jam and sunflower herb sauce, and the bone marrow side with chimichurri and caramelized onion." - Harry Cheadle

The Greenwood American Bistro's only real hit is the table bread - Review - Seattle - The Infatuation

"The Greenwood American Bistro is a hotel restaurant that didn’t get the memo it isn’t actually in a hotel. It’s open all day, every day. The dining room design screams “Marriott Bonvoy.” And, for the most part, the food is the kind of blasé mediocrity you’d forgive only if you were attending some leadership conference on the company’s dime. Dinner at The Greenwood American Bistro is disappointing. Braised lamb with brussels sprouts is dry and bland, with meat pieces far too fatty to chew. Seared salmon and barely salted sweet potato rounds are a snooze. And the burger is a valiant but underwhelming effort. Brunch is a touch better, where the braised lamb finally gets relief by way of silky shakshuka, and the chorizo-overpowered breakfast burrito is totally fine. Then there’s the sugarkelp pita—a puffy round of bread that someone decided to stuff with chewy bits of oceanic organisms. We’ll admit, it's a good idea, especially when anointed with salsa macha-drizzled carrot “shmoo.” But when the entrees pale in comparison to the table bread, that’s when you’ve got a problem. Coincidentally, you can use this place the same as you would a hotel lobby, like popping by to grab a solo cocktail before going out or having a last-resort brunch with out-of-town friends if everywhere else is booked. Hell, rendezvous with your attorney for wine and pita to discuss litigation strategies. Otherwise, The Greenwood American Bistro feels like a small blip in a neighborhood with much better options. Food Rundown Sugarkelp Pita Whatever you do, be sure that anything involving the sugar kelp-studded pita hits the table. This mystical—and oddly sticky—bread is the best dish here, available no matter the time, and it’s an impressive case study of what marine algae are capable of. photo credit: Aimee Rizzo Burger The homemade bun is a meal unto itself, which weighs down the rest of the (ultimately forgettable) stuff in between. What’s the stuff? An underseasoned beef patty, melted gouda, and the burger’s two leading players: crispy onions and tart pickles. photo credit: Aimee Rizzo Braised Lamb Don’t do it. photo credit: Aimee Rizzo Shakshuka You’re in good hands with this crock of tomatoes and runny yolks, complete with the occasional salty-tangy pop from feta. photo credit: Aimee Rizzo Pumpkin Pecan Coffee Cake Order nine squares, shove them in a brownie pan, and pretend to have worked harder than everyone else at the brunch potluck. photo credit: Aimee Rizzo" - Aimee Rizzo

Food: We ordered Gem Salad, Sugarkelpt Pita, Roasted Squash, and Pork Coppa. Overall, the food felt lazy and uninspired, especially given the prices. The Gem Salad we ordered didn't have any gem lettuce despite the name. It was romaine (which is fine; just call it a romaine salad). The apple garnish was all clumped together looked like it was hastily ran thru a mandolin and flung on top. The chef could have at least took the time and care to separate out the julienne pieces. Flavor was fine, but presentation just felt lazy. Sugarkelp Pita was actually interesting. Pita was soft, yet with a nice chew. Kelp added a subtle umami and pleasantly oceanic flavor. Carrot shoo was also unique and interesting. Squash dish was a bit under-seasoned, and otherwise blasé. But there is a twist - Romaine lettuce made a return in this dish! Inexplicably, this roasted squash and lentil dish included wilted, cooked romaine lettuce. Did the chef want to include braised Swiss chard and management said, "we're too cheap for that, so use the romaine lettuce from the 'gem' salad instead"?? Chef, blink twice if you are held against your will... Pork Coppa was okay. A bit on the dry side and also a bit under-seasoned, but otherwise not offensive. The sauce (maybe some kind of a pluot reduction) was tasty and paired nicely with the pork. Minor point - It was garnished with furikake. Not sure if this added anything to the dish and/or was necessary. I saw furikake on at least 4 of the 12 dishes on the menu. I guess the chef loves furikake on everything. Service: We arrived at the restaurant on a Sunday evening with a reservation. There were 2 other groups ahead of us, and no one even acknowledged our existence for at least 10 minutes (it sounded like the groups ahead of us waited even longer). Those groups eventually said they were able to get a table across the street at a different restaurant and left. We decided to stick it out and give Greenwood American Bistro a shot. We were eventually seated. The waitstaff for the remainder of the evening was perfectly nice, but service was slow. I understand restaurants are often understaffed and get slammed. And I understand service can be slow sometimes. Bu please, just acknowledge the crowd of people waiting at the door, and let them know that you'll be right with them instead of ignoring them until they leave... Atmosphere: Overall atmosphere was pleasant. However, it feels like Greenwood American Bistro has a bit of an existential crisis. The atmosphere and the clientele skews more neighborhood/casual. The food tastes casual but is presented like a home cook trying too hard to plate/garnish like fine dining. And the menu is priced like high-end dining (e.g., please don't put beverage and wine menus in sticky plastic sleeves like Applebees, unless you're trying to be a neighborhood bar and grill - if so, the menu and pricing should reflect that). Needless to say, I was disappointed by my experience. According to other reviews, lots of people seem to have had positive experiences. Maybe it was an off night.

What an amazing hidden gem in Seattle! Stumbled across this incredible restaurant and cannot wait to try out their other menus. Hands down, one of the best burgers and fries I've ever had, unique, incredible flavor and cooked perfectly. The staff and atmosphere absolutely align with the quality of the food at an elevated, elegant bistro feel. Everyone was helpful and I ended up loving the cider they recommend. This is my new go-to for amazing quality and seasonal menus with the freshest ingredients.

Came here for my partner’s birthday per a friend’s recommendation and it did not disappoint! Immediately loved the ambiance and the staff were very friendly, not just in formal “this is my job” kind of way but genuinely friendly and welcoming. We got the sugarkelp pita that comes with a DELICIOUS “shmoo”. They left it on the table after we finished the pita and I’m so glad they did because I kept eating it throughout the rest of the meal! I got the poached cod and my partner got the braised lamb, both very yummy as well! The presentation was beautiful! The cod was light and the pea puree had a lot of flavor for it being pea puree. Probably the best pea dish I’ve ever had! I also got the salted caramel espresso martini and it was the best espresso martini I’ve ever had. The staff were so kind and gave us a dessert on the house for my partner’s birthday. Chocolate mousse and homemade ice cream with some cherries and hazelnuts. It’s was a lovely way to end our meal. Overall we both had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend. I’ve been to other restaurants that cost the same or more per person and have felt disappointed, but not this restaurant! The dishes at the GAB are worth the price. I’m eager to come back and try their brunch menu!

Bottom line: come here for well-priced, high quality food with fantastic service. The rest of the lines: so many places in Seattle are astronomically priced yet don’t deliver when it comes to quality and quantity. Dining out feels like an investment now, so I’m careful about where the money is spent. I came to the Greenwood American Bistro on a friend’s recommendation, and it absolutely blew me away, checked all the boxes and then some. Just look at that cod dish - the presentation alone is Michelin quality! So hard to pick a favorite, but the Dungeness crab toast stood out as a perfectly balanced, beautifully plated meal. I feel like the meat of an entire crab was on that toast. And yes, that is a full-on bone in the background of the photo (steak tartare). I really couldn’t recommend this place enough for when you want a memorable, fancy meal at a fair price. I hope they stay in the neighborhood for years to come. It’s a pleasure to support a business with such high standards. (Oh, and the mocktails are actually good! Not just expensive juice!)

We had dinner at Greenwood American Bistro last Wednesday for dinner and had a 10/10 experience. The staff was friendly, attentive, and kept everything running smoothly without hovering. The menu had a nice mix of creative dishes. The sugar kelp pita was a standout — unique, fresh, and absolutely delicious. Everything we ordered was well-prepared and perfectly paced. Cocktails we ordered (Bella’s last word and a pisco del sol) were perfect. We had mentioned ahead of time when making our reservation that we were celebrating my birthday, and the head chef surprised us with an off-menu dessert. It was a thoughtful touch that made the night extra special. We’ll definitely be back.

We had dinner here with family and loved it. The setting is very nice and cozy. Cocktails were excellent, and the Oven Roasted Chicken was amazing. Staff were super friendly and helpful. A paid parking lot is close by. Highly recommended!

We went here for a PNW wine tasting event. We showed up and the restaurant was all setup with 5 different wines ready for us to try, a tasting notes sheet, and their sommelier ready to talk us through each wine. We had a great time trying each wine and learning a few things. The restaurant also brought out a few snacks for us which were all very nice. I think my only recommendation would be to maybe get a mic for the sommelier or maybe group everyone a bit closer to make it easier to hear. We stayed after the event for their happy hour (goes from 5-7!!) and tried their animal style fries, the burger, the glizzy, the gem salad, and the house popcorn. We all enjoyed our food, especially the fries and popcorn. I’m a big texture person and didn’t love the grittiness of the salad dressing with the goat cheese but still liked the taste and how crunchy the apple pieces were and the mustard seeds. Overall we had a really fun experience, felt well taken care of by the friendly staff, and liked the ambiance of the place with the dried flower table settings and amazingly thin wine glasses!

Had an amazing meal here. The ambience is impeccable. Lighting is beautiful. Candles at every table. Everyone from host to waiter to chef was clearly invested in bringing an amazing dining experience to your table. The burgers and salad were fresh and delicious. The fries were crispy with a furrikake topping.

Yelp
First experience here was during their soft opening which was amazing! It was just their second night but it was very smooth with very attentive service and if our waiter didn't know something they were quick to check and circle back with us. Sugarkelp pita, bone marrow, griddled salmon, steak and braised lamb were all great. Which made us excited to return, however, sad to see that their dinner menu had now been condensed as some of the options on there for the soft opening we were hoping to return to try. Now why the 3 star review? Some in our party had had a great weekday lunch experience and after our soft opening dinner experience, we thought brunch would be excellent but brunch service was subpar and many of our party's dishes were served cold. We arrived on time with our table ready but it still took them some time to seat us, didn't bring enough menus for everyone in our party with no acknowledgment they didn't bring enough when it was clear they didn't put in at each table settling and then while our server came by with water once seated they then seemed to disappear and we waited a long time before they finally returned to take our order for both drinks and food. -Several in our party ordered the benedict which was delicious but cold - Would order the huevos rancheros, breakfast burrito and green skillet dishes again -The hot sauce made in house is excellent. We'd buy it if we could! Also, during the weekday lunch experience, ordered an Irish coffee which was a dream so ordered at brunch and got just a coffee with cream with whisky in it - not a true Irish coffee like last time. It was not on the drink menu during either visit but at brunch don't say you can make this if you actually can't. Returned the drink and whole they didn't charge us for it there was no apology nor offer or ask if we wanted something else instead. Server and host/manager were friendly enough but service during our previous two visits was top notch which made the brunch service feeling meh and underwhelming. Willing to try brunch again in the future and hope it's better as this place is in the neighborhood for us but more likely to return for dinner or weekday lunch now based on our better experiences during these times.

Yelp
So excited to try this place as the space has been empty for some time. We had a mixed experience. Good: - the pita was fantastic the "shmoo" amazing for sure worth coming back for. - the cocktails were solid - I don't remember the names but one with nettle vodka and the rum with apple cider. - the shoestring fries - perfect but the "fry sauce" is basically mayo and boring. Opportunities: - we were there at 4 pm on a Friday ...there were 2-3 other small groups and all the staff seemed stressed and a bit frantic -- it impacted the vibe a bit. - we ordered the chicken sando and asked if it was breast or thigh...told it was breast ...when it came it looked pretty pink...sent it back and was told that's how it was supposed to be (also turned out it was thigh) but by then we were turned off and asked for a burger instead. That came and was good --- the bun was a bit too thick but overall a decent burger. I hope they work out the links and also consider adding a happy hour in the future.

Yelp
This is just a rating of my first experience here, I'm hoping to come back soon to try other dishes. When we came in for a weekend brunch, I was immediately hit with the strange smell of mildew or water rot, it just was not an appetizing smell. I got the shakshuka which came with pita, but a disappointing amount of it for the amount of sauce I had to go through. Flavors were fine but nothing mindblowing, so hoping to order something different next time

Yelp
We made it in tonight! I feel so special making it in on the official first opening night. All of the staff were amazing, super personable. Really loved our server James M. Everything we had I'd order again. The pita with the beef tartare had amazing flavor but ended up a little soggy as the meal went on. Needed to be crispier. The potatoes with the bistro steak were a knock out. Everything was good but those were just a couple things I remember. Congrats and looking forward to watching the restaurant evolve! Bar menu as well!

Yelp
Can't say enough good things about our experience at this new spot. The staff provided wonderfully attentive service. They really nailed the the vibes here too. And the food? Omnomnomnom! Will for sure be back. My highest compliments to the team!

Yelp
Yeah. Good. Welcomed addition to Greenwood. Short but good menu. Great fries. Some of the best rice I ever had.

Yelp
We had the chicken main dish and it was the best chicken I have had in years! I ate it before taking a picture, but it was so incredibly good. The pita was very unique and delicious. The bean dip was basically hummus and vegis. They are brand new and have a few kinks to work out, but that is to be expected! We will be back!

Yelp
Personal, attentive service, our server was there whenever we needed anything. The food was delicious and had a little mystery. The bean dip and sugar kelp pita were outstanding. The drinks were well made, generous and delicious.

Yelp
Love this new addition to the neighborhood! Beautiful space and nice variety of menu items. I have only been twice so far but will be back often to try everything on the menu. The kelp pita with the carrot shmoo and salsa matcha is wonderful, unique flavors that work together. The arugula and radicchio salad with albacore and dates was delicious and plentiful. The bean dip was gorgeous and fun to eat. All of the dishes were generous and well priced for the quality and flavor. Love the wine list and delicate stem ware! Can't wait to try the brunch menu and lunch menu. The Bistro just opened and are finding their feet but my experiences so far have been fantastic. Nice people and great food, love it!

Yelp
Incredible!! Got the burger fries and aperol spritz and it was really yummy! Will return

Yelp
Absolutely LOVE this place! Great, unique high quality food with a neighborhood vibe. Perfect for a special occasion or a simple night out.

Yelp
We tried The Greenwood American Bistro last night and I could not be happier to have this wonderful addition to the neighborhood. The cocktails were incredible, the food was amazing and the service was top notch. We got the pita with carrot shmoo, gem salad, chicken sandwich and burger. Everything was so good! We have had our fingers crossed for years that something good would go into this space and I am so happy it did. Worth the wait! The interior is simple yet elegant and the vibe immaculate. We can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Excellent food. The renovated space is very nice and warm. Service was very friendly but slow, which seemed odd given the abundance of servers present. There was a limited bar menu, but the drink I had was very good. The options available were creative.

Robin D.

Yelp
Disappointed with beer list. So much good beer in Seattle and no malty amber, scotch ale, dark lager. We asked if bone in chicken, and waiter confirmed no bone, and it arrived with a bone. Spices were off putting and it was like the chef was trying too hard to be weird.

Yelp
They had only been open a few days... So there was that. The service was terrific. The atmosphere was upscale and hip. The food was just the usual high end pub food that you can get anywhere. Right across the street is "Flint Creek Cattle Co" .. a much more interesting option, with a much better menu.
google avatar

Chris F.

Yelp
Phenomenal food. Highly recommend the pita and the kale salad. Green Garden cocktail is also off the chain. Off the chain? Is that a thing?

Yelp
Beautiful atmosphere. Just opened up and WOW, renovations look great. Nice staff and better food!

Yelp
Really sad about this. Review is only on the food. Went at 4pm on a Friday. Only had two small plates, the brassicas and the crudo. Both were not good. The kale, leeks and broccoli were charred to a crisp and had a fully cooked egg yolk in the middle. No idea where the egg white went. Sauce was good and so was the pita to soak it up with- but there is an up charge for the pita. Crudo was just bad. Fishy and salty. Had a look at my neighbor's beef tartare and it looked frightful! We are beer drinkers and were disappointed to see only 5 or so beers to choose from at $10 each. You can get a nice beer for half that price across the street at Flint Creek, during the amazing happy hour there. We will give it another try when they start serving breakfast... and will try again with the small plates. Maybe it was just an off night. But this place will have to do better to compete with the other fine dining options steps away. On a positive note- the service was great!

Michelle W.

Yelp
Kind people and attentive staff. You can tell they care about delivering a stellar experience. We loved the pita and our drinks especially. Recommend you give it a try!

Yelp
We were so excited to see this restaurant open finally! Had dinner here their 2nd night. The service was fabulous. The food ranged from excellent (salmon bowl, pita and carrot schmoo) to divine (oysters, brassicas, dessert -- in house coffee ice cream makes an amazing affogato). The decor is classy and it's not too loud. Excellent som and wine list. Can't wait to try brunch when they start serving it so!
