Underground Chicago (15) is one of the most iconic nightclubs in the Midwest. High quality bottle service, hospitable staff as well as a stylish porter. The discotheque boasts a state-of-the-art sound system with pyrotechnics and digital screens everywhere. On the day we visited, Lil Jon made an appearance as the night's DJ alongside of Emmy award-winning TV host/crooner Billy Dec. If you're ready to get crunk after a long 15 month lockdow, then this is your place!

Absolute waste of time and effort here; don’t waste your precious evening considering this venue. 1st, I will say it’s nice that they give priority to the the lovely women out there, however, no gents allowed after 12 except for table groups so, even if you come to spend money and meet the ladies….no entry fellas, they’ll only allow “tables”! BIG BIG 2nd….. there’s a scam of fraudulent valets “Extreme parking”…they’ll literally come to your window and ask for money to park on a city block that’s not affiliated with the club “Underground”. They have magnet stickers on legal street signs to fool folks urgently on route to enjoy their nightlife so be on the look out. Blessings ppl, have fun and know the scammers!

Patrick was an absolute delight! Made me and my friends feel welcome! However Heather the bartender was the absolute worst, refuse to serve me because I asked the price of a drink - did not provide customer service at all and was very rude. Will not be excited about spending money and visiting soon

Please don’t go to this place and I’m definitely going to pull the race card because it was a race issue. Myself and my two other black friends came to this place to celebrate my friend’s birthday and was told that we needed to be on the guest list. Of course we weren’t and they proceeded to tell us if we could buy a table and spend at least $750 on bottles, then we could come in. That was a straight no for me and I stood there as they let many nonblack people in, who were not checked for on a guest list or buying tables. I asked the bouncer why he let these two white women in that were not questioned and he had the audacity to tell a flat lie and say they paid $3000 for a table. I hate establishments like this. Super unprofessional and doesn’t deserve to be in business!

This was horrible, we came after 12am and I’m not one to pull the race card but it felt genuinely racist, these were “black” bouncers and they told us it was “1,000 for guys to get in bc they have to get a table” we said hell nah, but then as we’re waiting for a friend to come to the door, we see that they’re letting college or young guys in for $40 who were non-black on a consistent basis. So we asked the other security guards “why can’t we get in, we’ll pay $40 like everyone else” and he goes “sorry my bouncer said no” so they would rather lose $40, knowing that we’re not going to pay $1,000 than to let us in. I could tell from the people and security this is not an exclusive club but they’re trying to come off as one. I’m writing a review because this was a huge inconvenience and a disrespectful staff. We could and should sue because they’re actively discriminating. Don’t go here save your time.

Some of the best memories of my times going out in Chicago were had here. Great times, people drinks and of course amazing music. It was a magical place and I can understand why pricing makes people mad - something’s in life are priceless. I’ll tell ya right now I don’t remember how much anything was. But I do remember the lights, the people and the music forever.

Terrible experience, not a business I will like to spend my money in ever.... The moment I walked up to get inside of this club, I noticed the bouncers picking selective people, it was no line. It was just a crowd of us standing around two. Bouncers, I stood there for maybe 15 minutes before I even asked a question, I left the bouncer know I knew the birthday girl and her name and he immediately said it's No one on his list with their name, this is very strange as I just saw her sister say the same name and asked was I coming in and what was taking so long, I told her they never asked me anything and she told me sometimes you just have to tap them and they will tell you who party are you coming for.... As we were talking he asked her to walk in. He looks right at me and denies me and said no one's on this list has that name, keep in mind this young lady is Caucasian and I am African American women... So I stayed outside for maybe 30 40 minutes just to see how this was going, I saw another group of young Caucasian women say the same exact name and got in the club, I see other people getting in saying they party names they get in. All of these people are Caucasian... I know this. It's a group of young black people, including myself not able to get in, now. We all dress appropriately and will well manner, so at this point I see it as a race issue with this establishment.... I was told by another black individual that I know that they pick and choose who they want to come inside. They club, and they are definitely not choosing black. Not to say they do not have black individuals in a club, just say they are black individuals in a club either throwing a party or they bringing a party (insider)...

Bottle service and champagne wild night club or chill out room super nice vibes service was amazing great night for sure. Definitely check it out if u wanna dance and have a great time

This review is long overdue, from a Saturday in 2018. We had table service at a swanky rooftop lounge for my bachelorette party, but we still wanted to dance after closing. The DJ suggested The Underground, and I will be FOREVER thankful. When we arrived, the line was horrendous. But we got lucky and didn't have to wait long. Music was great, club was packed, and venue was spacious! Would definitely go back again.

I'm not at all surprised seeing such low rating for this place. Drinks are very overpriced, the music sucked big time. People weren't even dancing to bad music. Even the bartender is super slow. The place kinda stinks too. Chicago has so many better options. I will not be visiting ever again!

I came from los angeles ca. Felt discriminated because first wearing a cap bit also a white t shirt nowhere in their attire it says anything about those situations. Also securities are so rude and unprofessional. Definitely wouldn't come back here at all.

Felt like high school homecoming.. super weird vibes overpriced and the music was AWFUL omfg you would think for the price to get in they would at least have decent music. Absolutely not. Also I thought you had to be hot and skinny to be a bottle girl?!?!? Especially for the price you pay to get it. Yikes!! I'm a small ass white girl and I got in for free while my boyfriend and his friend had to pay $40 each for a "cover fee" the fuck? Obviously sexist/racist. Who is letting this place stay open fr fr?

I asked a bartender to give me 3 shots of tequila, and he didn't tell me the price before charging me. The price ended up being $130 for 3 shots of casamigos. I tried asking for a refund before taking the shots and he just made up some excuse and was rude about it too. Never coming back and yall shouldn't either.

Went on a Thursday 1st time place is trash for the amount the drinks cost $25 Jack and coke $32 Tequila sunrise which idk what was in that bs and the bartender kept on asking me if the change was for her like wtf really and wanted me to buy her a drink too I'm like no hunny I dont even know you lmfao this other kid ended up paying over $50 for a redbull vodka place is nuts I told one of the bar tenders to give me half ice and he was like no everyone gets ice thats how it is never going back here again its a dump also charge u over $10 for water lol

The worst time I've ever had in Chicago so I made it short lived. Racist, rude , ridiculously overpriced . One shot of resposado was 25.00 When I told the bartender there was no way and I wasn't drinking it she was incredibly rude . Rolled her eyes and commented how i must not be from around here . And she was going to need to me to pay RIGHT NOW. My boyfriend ordered a corona , which was 7.00- okay no problem ! Went to the other bar for his second beer and was charged double for the same drink and wasn't able to be given an explanation why . The bartenders are ignorant , have zero people skills and the only people they like at this club are blonde white girls . Terrible vibes , was pretty dead , the layout sucked and then as soon as we tried to grab a seat to sit -- which was plenty , someone came out and threw a reserved sign on it . Clearly they didn't like people who stood up for themselves and also don't care for latin groups either . Just don't go here.

These bouncers were rude, hostile and racist. I showed them my ID and they called me racial slurs. They took my girlfriend's real ID and refused to cooperate. We just left because I didn't want to escalate anything. Do not come here. Do not give them business!

We got bottle service and the bottles were definitely watered down. We spent north of 1000 dollars and every 20 minutes we got harassed for more money or to "bring some more girls". Dj was terrible and the vibes were even worse. Go to Celeste right up the street way better. Place is small, prices are just too much for what you get. Just go somewhere else and thank me later.

This establishment is absolutely racist. Me and a friend came tonight (both black working professional males 30+) because Google reviews showed it as the late night option. Got there stood in line behind 3 white males after a reasonable wait, when our turn came up they starting letting people in from a separate line for about 20 minutes before one guy came up to us and said "sorry fellas wristbands only". We overhead a south East Asian gentleman that looked to be the manger tell the guys don't let anyone in you don't like. The fact that we were well dressed out of towners who have never experienced this should should show that its a racist establishment.

The place had good music and crowd. However they added tip and gratuity on my bill? I thought it was either or? 2 shots of reposado came to $75. I Never seen a bar rip people off the way they do in my life.

This Is all based on a sober one time visit. The best description for this place is a bar area with a dance floor. Excellent to go out and take pictures, great scenery and aesthetic for those who like to go and create picture memories. Beverage services were quick from what I observed from those who were drinking. The bathrooms were in rough condition and are in a very inconvenient area in the establishment. As a dance club I do not recommend this place. The dance floor is a traffic area for those going to the bathroom, establishment workers, and bottle girls walking out. Many drinks are spilled on the floor so it is sticky, and sometimes slippery. Come here to drink, talk, take pics, not really the best dance experience compared to other establishments.

WORST CLUB IN CHICAGO !!! Got a section, had a bouncer come up to us twice - asked about an upgrade to the section we payed for. We said no, and they abused and assaulted my Arabic friend in the section. Anyone out of state; DO NOT COME. We will be perusing litigation. As soon as my friend raised the issues, they choked him and dragged him down the stairs. It is on camera - they knew and apologized but it does not undo the actions they committed. It is unfair to my Arabic friend, especially since we had a section. For them to drag him down the stairs was uncalled for. Nothing gave them to incentive to this action. As stated, DO NOT COME HERE

GIRLS STAY AWAY FROM HERE! My group came here and instead of the security guards looking out for women they were buying and putting roofies in mine and my friends drinks . One security guard after he roofied my friend was following her all over and getting handsy. One bouncer was sexual harassing me the entire night after I repeatedly denied him and said multiple times I have a boyfriend he still proceeded to get handsy and not take no for an answer. At one point the security guards weren't letting our boyfriends dance with or near us, like they were trying to keep us separate. It's not a safe place I do not recommend it! Trust all these bad reviews you're seeing it's nothing but the truth. The club itself is fun but the workers there are absolute predators .

Brie our hostess had the best customer service I've seen in a long time! We came in for a bachelorette at 1am and had a reservation for a tiny corner table. The second she saw we were a bachelorette, she upgraded us and gave us the best service all night! Candles, signs, shots, everything! She was the best and we will always come here for special occasions!! The host bri was very attentive and our servers Gabi, nay, and Madison we're more than amazing! They were so fast and attentive. We will be back!!

We had a great time! No issues with the bouncers, and the music was amazing. The drinks were good and the vibe was perfect! The drinks were expensive but it's a Chicago club and if you're expecting and different you're being dumb. Would def recommend!

My friends and I made a bottle service reservation in January for APRIL! Months in advance. I communicated with their staff member Rosie quite a few times in those months leading up to the reservation. We traveled from out of state and had a group of 10. We booked a hotel right next to the club. Last night we get to the club and the bouncers let us know that there was a private event booked and all reservations were cancelled. I didn't receive a single text or phone call. I wasn't the only one that happened to. No one was told about this. We planned our trip around this. So disappointing. Horrible service and communication.

Not to bad Here for a natural hair event hosted by Creme of Nature since it was an event we didn't have to deal with the security which is much mentioned on the Yelp in a negative way so if I am to come to this venue and will probably be a host of the event and not to just come to the venue itself I don't want to deal with anything in the negative capacity I just come to have a great time no drama and go home on tonight this place is not a very large venue DJ was awesome but it probably was a DJ that was hired through the event wait staff was pretty decent drinks not that strong at all I think my drink retailed for about $13 and $14 I would definitely like to feel the impact of the drink bathrooms pretty clean

The service was bad couldn't get in the club unless your on a list or a white skinny women . Then the bouncers are Trash the way talk to people ridiculous. If you from outta town it's point less ! 1/10 it gives discriminating . Funny how this made me love my city way more .

A group of my girl friends got in no problem on a slow Thursday night; however, the security/bouncer decided that they were going to charge a cover fee for the two of my queer friends with no explanation. All six of us women decided to leave, and we watched several other straight presenting women walk in without being on any list or paying the cover charge while waiting for our uber. Not that it should matter, but we are all in our early twenties and were dressed as to be expected for club attendance. It all seemed very unprofessional, and not the experience that we've had with other clubs in the area.

Horrible service. We were with a group of eight girls and multiple people in our group asked for a glass of tap water to drink between alcoholic beverages. We were told the only water we could get was $10 for a mini bottle. We told the bartender that establishments with a liquor license are required to provide free tap water upon request. The bartender responded "only if you're, like, really fucked up." Yet another way for a club to blatantly disregard the safety of their patrons, especially women.

Me and my friends had a good time. Don't know what everyone is talking about here. Bouncers we're straight forward and did their job. Drinks were a bit expensive but you're downtown so expect it. Danced my a** off.

Racist. Worst experience ever. It seems the bouncers and people admitting at the door have orders not to let anyone in who is not white. I saw countless black, Hispanic, an Indian couple and two visiting Korean tourists being turned away for no reason and in an extremely rude manner. When an African American customer complained why one of the bouncers told his girlfriend "get the f*** out of here b***, he was pushed to the ground and police had to be called. When they came, it seems they also work with this racist establishment since instead of chastising the bouncer, they told the couple not to show their faces there never again or they'll be arrested. What for he complained and he was pushed against the wall and threatened to go to jail that moment if he didn't leave. Worst, most racist place I've seen anywhere in the world!!!!!

The manager a complete asshole for no reason their hours are wrong online and they don't give a fuck about their customer. Don't go here there are much better clubs around the corner.

When I walked into the Underground I expected my night to be magical, cheerful, life changing. it was indeed not that. i dropped $55 on two shots. BULLSHIT! bartenders were extremely rude and have a nasty case of stink eye. hoes mad she got no tip bc her service sucked. bye ur life. gn.

After you read this scroll down to the "unrecommended reviews" section of this page and see what has gotten filtered out by an "algorithm." It's horrid. If Yelp included those ratings the business would have negative stars. Here's a fun game for the owners and managers of this club: Do do a word search for the terms "race" and "racism" and "ignorance" and "ignorant" on this yelp page and have a good long think. On Friday after my friends were let into The Underground Chicago I was last in line and stopped to have my ID further reviewed (a door man's prerogative). The door man said said "this isn't you, this is a black girl" to my darker complexion in the picture. I explained "I'm half black, sometimes I look lighter in the winter than in the summer and the DMV won't let me get a new photo." I smiled big to show him how I have the same exact smile in my photo. He handed it to another door guy for a second opinion. That man laughed out loud and handed it to a third man who handed it to another door guy and they all laughed in unison and said they would confiscate my ID. I stood in disbelief and insult and embarrassment at all the people watching. "I'm 30 years old and biracial" I protested standing outside in the 4 degree wind. I showed two credit cards with my name on it, offered to pull up my Facebook account, whatever they wanted. I was pushed outside of the line. I asked another door man to please check my ID with an authentication machine. He did and said "it's real, I believe this is you but you can't go in because "they" (being his laughing buddies) said no." Asked for a manager and was told to go home.

Last night I went there intending to get bottle service with a family member in town and our partners. When we got to the front the bouncer said, "party and bottles only" which was fine so we agreed. A few minutes later he said, "If you aren't Serbian you can't get in", which was another way to tell us they weren't letting people of color in. While waiting for an Uber, we watched them deny multiple groups of POC while proceeding to let every non-POC inside, even some wearing muddy cloth sneakers. I used to like this place but I can't see myself having fun here again in the future.

It's been a good five years since I've last visited Underground.....probably because I'm getting old and my joints can't handle it anymore (*tear*). I used to prefer clubs over bars/lounges back then, but my old lady self prefers bars/lounges over clubs now. Since this was for a friend's birthday, I made an exception. We came on a Saturday night a few minutes before 11:00 p.m. because it was free cover until then. Why is it free? Because it's so early that 10% of the club is occupied and as a result, you better believe eyes are on you if you're dancing! But hey, free is free. Here are the pros and cons of this club: PROS - Friendly staff (we got entry cards for a free guest for next time AND an employee even came up to us when we were standing by the dance floor and said we could sit down at one of the unreserved tables next to the DJ booth until it sold - value $1000+) - Decor and color scheme is nice (white tables and seats in a dark purple/blue lighting scheme) - Free cover before 11:00 p.m. - Two separate rooms depending on your mood (the other area is a little smaller, has a bar, different music playing and brighter lighting) CONS - As time progressed, I noticed the club had about 90% girls! Talk about uneven ratio of girls and guys. - Top 40's music with downtime, so it's not a consistent flow of good beats - Not a big area for dancing because the center of the main room is filled with tables and seats, and not many people dancing in the small dance area Overall, I think I'll stick to my bars and lounges.

Always a fun place, great music and service at bars is really good Ezell is the best, always so welcoming and such a nice guy, so hospitable and makes everyone feel great when they enter

I have to say normally I hate going to clubs because I hate waiting outside. It was a bit of a wait but because it was raining the staff did a good job of getting me in quickly. The bartenders were awesome especially on a busy Friday night they still made sure we had everything we needed and we were just drinking at the bar. I met a few managers while at the bar and I think they do a great job making sure everything goes smoothly. The Dj was awesome. I would definitely return and I would definitely recommend to friends.

This spot was soooo much fun. Went in with a group and danced all night. The DJ played fun music. At one point they pulled out hot fresh chocolate chip cookies. Would definitely go back!

I always have an amazing time at Underground. Great people and atmosphere! The staff always goes out of there way to make sure you have an experience that you won't forget. I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for a good time in Downtown Chicago!

Celeb sightings are always a plus, especially on a first visit (though it was after lolla, so I can't speak for every night). Although the Underground is small, cramped and crowded, it still feels exclusive. There aren't too many creepy guys or fat/ugly girls dressed like hookers inside (so be mindful of who you go with if you want to get in). Plus the guys are friendly without getting uninvitedly physical, which should be a given, but really this place has a classier crowd. The music is eclectic and always danceable, ranging from top-40s to old school hip-hop. Also, the illuminated maps on the wall make a cool decoration, fitting for the club's theme of wartime/world domination. The drinks are pricy ($10 for well drinks), but if you make nice with the bartenders, they will hook you up. Coat check is $3. There isn't anywhere to sit (except tables which are a 2 bottle minimum). But overall, the attractive and exciting personages is what gives this place its edge.

Once again The Underground coming in clutch! We didn't expect to have this much fun on a Wednesday night after the Ariana grande concert .. whoever was spinnin that night was amazing ! My girls and I spent the ENTIRE night dancing away .. service there was truly impressive... Jeremy , Raul and Omar were so great, catering to our needs .. the bottle girls were incredible at accommodating and taking care of us .. not to mention gorgeous! I highly recommend The underground to anyone looking to have a fun and memorable night out in Chicago ... thank you again for being the highlight of my trip!! I'll definitely be back

Racist. The head of security told me I couldn't get in because I was Mexican. When I asked if he cared he was being racist he said no, and to get my "b!tch" and leave the line referring to my girlfriend.

I know there's a lot of negative reviews, but my group of friends booked bottles last St. Patties Weekend and it was phenomenal. We booked with Martin who was easy and effortless. The servers took care of us. The music was a vibe. Never dealt with randoms coming into our booths. A blast and will be back.

We came here after Bottled Blonde because it was fairly close. We had a group of 5 girls and were automatically let in after the jerk of a bouncer told my friend that she had to take off her Blackhawks jersey.... This was a Saturday night after the hawks won a playoffs game. Once we filled out cards with out e-mails and name, we were let in for free. The place was absolutely packed and it seemed like they overbooked the amount of VIP tables because there was literally no where to dance. The music and vibe were good but the drinks were so expensive, $12 for a small vodka water.

THIS IS THE WORST BAR IN THE WORLD - if you are looking for a good time, don't not come here! My group came here and one of our friends got randomly kicked out for no reason. Legit just pulled out of the bar. If you want a fun time with friends don't come here bc you will probably not get regular service. We called the police because it was so ridiculous. Please spend your night somewhere else.

Don't waste your time - if you don't fit the credit card bearing folks walking in spending 300+ in order to get a table to sit and do nothing at a club... do yourself a favor as well if you're not fitting their standards.. they will turn you away or try to price you out. Bad club, bad service, rude staff.

Quite possibly the worst club in Chicago. My friends and I tried to go for a special event, which did not require an RSVP or any type of registration. In fact, the email they sent out said that an RSVP specifically did not reserve your spot. We arrived around 10PM and were turned away because we did not RSVP. I tried to talk to the bouncers who proceeded to talk to me in an extremely rude manner. They then said they have the right to turn away any patrons for whatever reason they would like and we did not fit their standards, even though we stuck to the strict dress code. Don't waste your time going here. Staff is rude, club is overpriced, you might as well go to any of the other clubs in the area.

The Underground was one of the first-night venues I checked out in Chicago. After hearing about prior visitors like Chance the Rapper, ChaseB, and more check out this location, I knew I would like it. Staff and bouncers were very hospitable as well. I plan to visit again, hopefully, this time being the one performing!

If ONLY I could give a NEGATIVE 5 Stars! So, a group of 3 friends and I tried to enter the club this past Sunday with another group we met at a bar within walking distance. The person at the front rope ( I wouldn't call him security, he wore a white t-shirt and a messy ponytail, while the actual security was in all black suits), was really RUDE! Once we approached the rope maybe 40 seconds after our group and was denied entry. He stated that we needed reservations. It's funny he said that because the group that was with us did not have a reservation and was allowed entry. To add insult to injury, while waiting for our car service, we witness at LEAST 6 people walk up, show their ID and enter. NOT ONCE DID the person check for a reservation. This leads me to BELIEVE This establishment is RACIST! This place is a horrible representation of what night life should be. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE! EVER!

I loved being there however I noticed that the security watches everything, I was taking a snap chat and the security guard told Me I was not able to snap chat the place I was at for security purposes, so I didn't like that, however I loved the music, and the ambiance of the place!

One of my favorite places in Chicago for a night out. Also great for double dates! I visit whenever I'm near by. The outside line is usually a brief trip with the most friendly bouncers I've ever met! They will crack jokes and strike up a casual conversation. Very fun people! The dance floor is usually a mix of fun girls and cool guys co-mingling. Plenty of spots to sit and chat with a group--they keep the music at a level that allows for a conversation, while also making the dance floor lively. The bathrooms are always clean and they have the quickest staff in the city--seriously, I'm not sure how they manage to service drink orders so quickly. Half the reason this place is so great is the amazing staff and the other half is the awesome people that come, as I've made about 4 different connections to people I've met here. I strongly suggest you stop by for a fun night out.

Ran into this place unexpectedly on a Saturday night and had an absolute blast! Drinks are average priced for downtown Chicago and the atmosphere was top notch. We had room for a large group of friends to find a corner and enjoy the night.

Went there on Saturday for the first AND last time! If I could give this place zero stars I would. We were out for the night celebrating a bachelorette party and know for a fact that we had made contact with their event coordinator about coming here! As soon as we walked up to the door we were turned away by the bouncer who said, "Anyone let in after 10 PM needs to have a table reservation and bottle service." We had to argue our way in, explaining to them that our group had already made contact with one of their event coordinators and were told that this would not be a problem! After what seemed like 10 minutes of poor customer service, we were FINALLY let in. The one saving grace about this place was their bartender, Levi and the Bathroom Attendant! Levi made sure we were taken care of the entire night and provided our group with excellent service! He then asked their VIP coordinator to hear our story out...and unfortunately he was unable to do anything about the poor customer service we received!
