"The thing that really stands out about The Wigmore—the handsome hotel pub-restaurant attached to The Langham—is how comfortable it is. Velvet sofas are so plush and deep that attempting to change positions can mean losing your hand in fabric for a few panic-stricken seconds. The hearty British classics—lamb pies, XXL toasties, and curry scotch eggs—range from inoffensive to tasty, and make sense in this racing green panelled room full of gilet-wearers schmoozing clients. Meetings with anglophiles aside, we like this classy Marylebone spot best for big group meet-ups. The kind where well-stuffed armchairs and champagne put everyone in a good mood, and the proximity to Oxford Circus lessens the chance for arguments about geographical favouritism. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Pause Unmute Food Rundown Wigmore’s XXL Stovetop Toastie 3 Cheese And Mustard If you go to The Wigmore, getting this child’s cricket bat-sized toastie for the table is a non-negotiable. It arrives with a pan lid pressing it down and there’s a good amount of tangy cheddar oozing out of the sides. It’s simple, but it’s so satisfying. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Masala Spiced Scotch Egg, Dahl Relish Breadcrumbs are swapped for crispy straws of potato here, which we really like. The dahl relish— warming and creamy—is also very tasty. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Fat Chips, Bloody Mary Salt The slight tingle of the bloody mary salt makes us want to keep picking at these fat, fluffy chips. We’d be happy with these, a toastie, a scotch egg, and a pint. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Spring Lamb Pie, Mash, Mint Sauce This is a pretty good pie but we just wish the gravy was thicker. It dribbles out as soon as you cut into it. So the rest of your time is spent chasing it around the plate with pastry. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna Roast Heritage Carrot And Quinoa Salad, Hazelnut, Caper Dressing If you order this as your main (it’s in the mains section), you will be disappointed. As far as quinoa salad goes, it’s OK. But it’s a side dish to pick at while eating other bits, at best. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna Strawberry And Almond Tart, Vanilla Anglaise An underwhelming dessert, with a tart case that’s a bit underbaked and strawberries that should be more ripe. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna" - Sinéad Cranna
"The Wigmore, located at Langham Place, is perfect for a shopping trip or a visit to Regent’s Park. The beers and cask ales are excellent, and the food stays true to pub expectations, with the toastie being epic." - The MICHELIN Guide UK Editorial Team
"The impressively high ceiling can only mean one thing – this was once a bank. Booths, high tables, a sizeable bar and bold emerald green tones lend a clubby feel to this addendum to The Langham. Classic, hearty British dishes are given an update." - Michelin Inspector
"The Wigmore is attached to The Langham so it’s no surprise this is a posh pub. But that’s no bad thing when snacks include fat chips with bloody mary salt, masala-spiced scotch egg and a three-cheese toastie which is worth every penny of its £14 price tag. Come for a pint or a glass of pinot noir, or stay for three courses. There’s pie or gammon and egg … But really, get that toastie." - Daisy Meager
"This pie is a beautiful, fully-formed thing — as much a “pub pie” as this swish establishment is a “pub”. It’s got a thick, rich pastry outer (not just a lid), and the richest, most delicious filling laden with chicken and sweet, buttery leeks. It’s served with possibly the smoothest mash on this list, and a personal pot of mustard." - Laura Goodman
