Best Vegetarian Restaurants in Charleston | Eater Carolinas

"Three Girls on Spring is a plant-based delicatessen offering vegan Italian fare and sandwiches. Think vegan meatballs, a vegan BLT, and a vegan sausage and broccoli rabe sandwich." - Erin Perkins

Wow. If we could give Three Girls on Spring more than five stars we would. We had an outstanding lunch. To begin, the owner was so friendly, outgoing, and inviting. Her homemade food was excellent … actually, beyond excellent. The owner graciously allowed us to sample and we went for the Crispy Eggplant, the Porchetta and Provolone, and the cheesecake. The food kept getting better and better with each bite. If you’re in the Charleston area, you should definitely try this 100% plant based restaurant. You will not be disappointed. To our surprise the owner (along with her daughters) own Three Girls Vegan in Guilford, CT which we’ll visit on our trip through New England. We cannot wait for this visit. We are also already thinking about placing an order for shipment when we’re with family for the holidays.

While visiting Charleston, this was my number one wish list place to eat and let me tell you...it did not disappoint! Due to getting into town late in the afternoon on a weekday, we ordered through UberEats and had the food delivered. We had the Caesar salad with "cutlet", Bellisimo, and Crab Cake sandwich. For dessert we got the Cannoli dip. I honestly refer to this as the BEST meal I've ever eaten. Everything is made from scratch and incredible! The next day we ordered again and got the Buffalo chicken sandwich which again was a great choice. I can't wait to go back to Charleston (mind you this is a 600 mile drive) just to eat here!

Google
Had the absolute and total pleasure of finding this all vegan Italian deli on a day trip to Charleston. Super cute space with few small tables to dine at. The gentleman working the counter was beyond helpful as we decided on our order (two Belissimo sandwiches!) Both my husband and I agreed this may just be the best sandwich we have ever had the pleasure of eating😭🙏🏻 Homemade focaccia, with homemade cheese, an amazing cutlet, pesto, and red pepper. It was so obviously made with love and care. Unreal! Thank you! We look forward to coming back to Charleston soon! JUST for this wonderful meal💘💘💘

This is the best original plant based jernt we've found in SC. We drive 90 mins just to grub on their amazing food. Three Girls on Springs focus is solely on the food, not the atmosphere. There are 2 tables out front if you wanna stick around, but its really a grab and go. We take ours to a local park and nosh. We love the Belissimo-cutlet and the eggplant parm sammy. Both are so flavorful and hearty❤️ Don't forget to grab any of their vegan sweet treat options! It's hard to find them out here in the wilds of SC. You will fall in love with TGOS💞 ENJOY!!

Ok this spot was so yummy. Someone in our friend group is vegan so we tried it and as an omnivore I was pleasantly surprised. I got the eggplant parm sando. Friends liked the “crab” cake and “tuna”’sando too. The staff was exceedingly friendly to us. We sat on their outside table and enjoyed- grateful it was nice weather, as we hadn’t realized it was primarily a takeout spot.

Google
All I can say is wow! This is easily my favorite vegan restaurant I’ve tried. They make everything from scratch and serve truly authentic Italian cuisine. The food is incredible. Make sure to order the Belissimo and grab a pizza to go. It was honestly the best vegan pizza I’ve ever had! The owners are wonderful people with great hearts. I’m sad I’m not a local, but I’ll be planning future trips to Charleston just to come back here.

Google
This place is the best vegan spot in town! Run here ! Even carnivores will be satisfied. Tracy, the owner took care of my pup when she overheated. We were able to sample many things. Highly recommend the lasagna with “meatball”, & “bacon” “egg” Sammie! The cannoli dip is also on point! I can’t wait to go back. Amazing service and great people! Adorable spot and easy to walk to!

Google
Amazing food!!! The owner was so sweet and we got to try a free sample of vegan lasagna. The sandwich was amazing, it was a spin off of porchetta, they serve it on focaccia but I got mine on gluten free bread! It’s mostly a grab and go place but we were able to eat at a small bistro table there.

Yelp
Delighted to find a vegan place in Charleston and it did not disappoint. We tried the porchetta on focaccia and the buffalo chicken sandwich; both were amazing. They had free samples of different dips you could try (recommend the nacho one!) and the woman working was really friendly. There's only one table inside and two outside, so be ready for that if you plan to eat there vs getting take out, but definitely go! We will be back next time we're in town.

Yelp
The focaccia is to die for! It's fluffy and delicious. I had the special of the day and my cousin had the mac and cheese. We also shared a cinnamon roll focaccia. Everything was flavorful and the service was top notch! Don't miss this wonderful vegan eatery!

Yelp
Food was fine but the service was abhorrent. We ordered take out and were told it would be ready at 1:55 pm. Arrived at 1:55pm. Food wasn't ready until 2:30, no apologies. Poorly run business.

Yelp
OMG! OMG! OMG! Talk about going above & beyond! We got "dished" by our door dash driver (a whole other review for that). Called to reorder and they not only offered to deliver to us at hotel but didn't want me to pay for redo when not their fault. Once got food, very delicious!!! If in Charleston area, highly recommend this restaurant even if not vegan! World class service & great food!!!

Yelp
The only thing stopping me from a perfect score are they ran out of food and the wonky hours. They closed on a day that they had listened online as open, but had ran out of inventory. There is one woman who makes all of the food and lives out of state makes the food and then didn't make enough for demand. The chicken parm was so so good though. The bread was fresh and the chicken was so good and flavorful. You got a massive sandwich and two people were able to split it. The staff was so friendly and even followed up with us if they had more inventory and things changed. I don't know if anyone else would do that or give us recommendations on where to go. It is a cute little place that is great to sit outside when it's sunny, but I think takeaway might be the best way to go here.

The Lasagne is fantastic!! Service is even better! Please support this wonderful vegan option In Charleston!!

Yelp
This place is in a corner brick building and is a pure takeout with only a couple of tables in front; no table service and no restrooms. However, even in that limited capacity they were quite busy and struggling to keep up with demand. They offer totally vegan cuisine that is largely Italian in style, with some gluten-free options as well. Normally hard to get Italian without wheat and dairy, so they are really going for it here. And you know what? I was impressed. The free garlic knot I sampled during my long-ish wait was presumably doused in olive oil or cashew butter or something, but it was as fresh and delicious as could be. They were tearing off fresh dill to put on some other dishes, and while I considered the Buffalo sandwich, their core option was also delicious, a sandwich with some kind of flaxseed based pattie, cashew cheese, and an abundance of flavor. They also had a freezer with some of their creations to go. Hopefully they'll become more efficient at service as this is a new place, but for Charleston, particularly given the loss of the nearby Gnome Cafe, this is a new standard-bearer for totally plant-based cuisine.

Yelp
Had high expectations for this place. They were not met. We came during their last hour of business, so they were out of several things. The crab cakes said they had a gluten free option, which I pointed out to the guy who told me the only GF option, the tuna salad was sold out. My observation seemed to confuse him as he studied the menu and told me the "option" would just be to get it without any bread, not even gluten free bread. Whatever, I wanted to eat. We waited outside for him to prep the meal to go, it seemed like an eternity, which seemed odd, since the food is already made and all he had to do was (maybe) heat it up and package it. My crab cakes were underwhelming. And dry. And chewy. Also, within an hour, they'd wrecked havoc on my intestines. I'll spare you the details. Being generous with three stars, mainly because it's an entirely plant based restaurant, which I like to encourage. Would I return? No. PS - "everything" isn't made from scratch as evidenced by their breakfast sandwich made with "just egg". "Just" sayin'

Yelp
What a hospitable owner!! I'm not a vegetarian but I loved everything we ate! Go visit her!!

Yelp
Delicious Italian style Vegan. Everything I have had here is amazing. The sandwiches, lasagna, cheese- the CANNOLI dip!!! Omg it's like heaven !!!

Yelp
The food was outstanding and the owner was very friendly. I got to test a new sausage bread item (AMAZING) that I begged her to sell me but she just gave to me. You won't be disappointed with the food here!

Yelp
I stopped in here for lunch on a Thursday as soon as they opened for the week. The hours are very odd which makes it a little difficult to catch them if you're from out of town. I had seen the posts from last week on the Charleston Vegans page on FB and really wanted to try the Tiramisu but I missed it since the specials change every week. I figured I'd give the Strawberry Ice Box Cake a try instead. It was alright, pretty much a tub of CocoWhip for $12 lol. I was a little taken back by the prices, as 3 items rang up to a $50 total. When I made that comment in the group, I got a bunch of backlash about how this is a small business and rent is high. Maybe it would behoove profits to have more operational hours? Just a thought. Then it could lower prices and make it more available for more people to buy because at that price, even if I lived in town, I probably wouldn't be back. The food was good and I like that apparently it's all made from scratch, but I didn't find my sandwich worth $17, especially when it just came with Ruffles lol. It's definitely worth a try but I wish I would have made better choices so I could be as impressed as the rest of the people in the group.

Yelp
the food is amazing but the service was even better! the owner is the nicest and so friendly i had the best experience!

Yelp
Tiny little vegan gem of a restaurant! EVERYTHING is vegan and made from scratch. No processed or packaged fake meats or cheeses... they make all of their own vegan cheeses and proteins and breads. Delicious! No tables inside and it took a little while for the food because it was made to order, it's to-go only but definitely worth it! I'm coming here again for sure. Really nice fella cooking up a storm inside.

Yelp
We visited Three Girls on Spring as part of our trip to Charleston, and I gotta give this place props--their "crab cake" sandwich was amazing. No complaints there, and my husband also enjoyed the buffalo "chicken" sandwich. With that being said, this place seemed a little pricy for the portions that we received. As a vegan, I understand that pricing will be a bit higher, but idk...even though what we got was good, it would've been nice to get a little more bang for our buck. The service was nice though--I think the owner walked in while we were waiting for our sandwiches and she was very kind and personable!

Yelp
I ordered a Reuben and an 8oz of the tuna salad. It was absolutely delicious! Definitely give this place a try!

Yelp
One of the best restaurants in all of Charleston. Whether you're vegan or not, you will love their food!! Such high quality and the flavors are out of this world. Not only are the owners amazing but so is the chef! Great vibes the second you walk in and you leave beyond satisfied from eating their food. It's not a sit down spot so I love ordering their food and taking it to the nearby park. Even my family and friends who aren't vegan, are obsessed!

Yelp
Reading one bad review was one too many. This place is the absolute best. If I was forced to eat one thing for the rest of my life it would be the bellismo. All their food is insanely fresh. They do prepare the food before the day starts meaning they may close early if they sell out or might have limited options if u go towards close but that's what comes with great homemade food from a very small business. The woman does not live out of state. The guy who works the counter is extremely friendly and remembered me after not being in town for 7 months. Truly some of the freshest and most delicious food in Charleston weather your vegan or not

Yelp
Stopped in today for lunch and everything was awesome! Had the crab cake sandwich and the buffalo chicken sandwich, highly recommend both. Finished with the tiramisu which was fluffy and delicious. Highly recommend checking out this new restaurant, will be back!

Yelp
The young man added hot sauce for my sandwich. Excellent food. This is a hole in the wall kind of a restaurant with a very pleasant interaction, very tasty food. Most folks did the carry out and went home. We were lucky that it was Sunday so we could sit at tables across the street. Yes we will go back again.

Yelp
We stopped in yesterday to check out this new plant-based restaurant. We were fortunate enough to meet the friendly owner Tracy, and we had a great conversation about her shop. All the cheeses are made in house using her own recipes, as are many of her items. Nothing processed here! We sampled the mozzarella and chipotle cheddar and WOW! my husband loved the creamy mozzarella and I loved the cheddar! She sells some of the cheeses so you can experiment with using them in your own dishes. Both flavors were super yummy and I look forward to trying them on pizza or even crackers! We chose the Bellissimo sandwich and the gluten-free lasagna for lunch. As it was a chilly gray day, the lasagna hit the spot. It tasted like mom's home cooking, comforting and delicious. It has corn based noodles and was undetectably gluten-free. The 'meat' sauce on top was savory and delicious, as was the vegan Parmesan. The sandwich did not disappoint! The pesto, cheese and patty combination was like a chicken Parmesan flavor and the bread was toasted to perfection. We watched as they fresh roasted the red peppers and couldn't wait to dig in! The crab cake and sauce were also divine! The crab cake is made with artichokes and had a great texture and the dill aioli was a yummy pairing. We also sampled the cinnamon roll with a strawberry on top. The cream cheese frosting had good flavor and texture, and the cinnamon roll was so good and rich. The strawberry juices gave the frosting a nice berry flavor too. The location is a small with a couple cute little tables out front. We chose to take it to go and had a nice little picnic at home. We were pleasantly surprised by the comfort food that was both nourishing and tasty. Charleston has limited vegan options, and this place is a wonderfully unique addition to the scene.

Yelp
The delicious aroma of what waits inside will pull you in from the street. I wanted to try everything on the menu, and there were a few sample sauces with chips on the counter to whet your appetite while you peruse the menu. One of the owners (the Mom - what a hoot! I instantly wanted to be friends!) came in and also gave me a sample of their lasagna which was heavenly on a chilly afternoon. I opted for the Bellisimo - a cross between a chicken Parmesan & a caprese sandwich. The cutlet was a sausage flavor/texture fried with a delicate crumb coating. The pesto was fresh and bright, the vegan mozzarella was light and creamy, and the roasted red peppers were a nice sweet accompaniment to the savory filling. The fried dough bread is a pillowy, flaky cloud of indulgence. The portion was very generous and could have made two meals easily, but couldn't stop myself from eating it all. I purchased a trio of fermented cheeses and a cinnamon roll pastry for later. I was just passing through town and so glad I sought them out - if I ever return to Charleston I will try more lovely items on the menu. They might just be the reason I go back!

Yelp
AMAZING I was visiting charleston and I always love looking for new vegan places and I was not disappointed. Everything is made from scratch and amazing flavor. Definitely worth a visit

Paul G.

Yelp
The vegan food was excellent. The owner, Tracy, was enthusiastic and friendly. I'd definitely would go back.

Carrie P.

Yelp
Fantastic food. The lasagna and the "burger" were great! Only seating is a couple seats on the sidewalk outside so plan to get it to go!

Jimmy T.

Yelp
Amazing food, great service. One of my favorite vegan spots in the area and always satisfied.
