Seattle’s New Restaurant Openings - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Three Sacks Full is a former dinner pop-up series that now has a permanent sit-down space in Roosevelt. The menu here is seasonal, and mostly features vegetable- and grain-based dishes—think celery root and sorrel soup, kiwi kohlrabi salad, and buckwheat honey cake. And during the day, this spot doubles as a wine shop where you can pop in to buy a bottle. We recently checked out Three Sacks Full. Read our first thoughts here. " - Kayla Sager Riley

Three Sacks Full Review - Ravenna/Roosevelt - Seattle - The Infatuation

"This former pop-up dinner series opened up a Ravenna spot that features fancy grains and local produce. Unfortunately, the dishes are so far a bit void of life. Bland and cold slices of potato and leek frittata are passed off as a “snack,” wild mushrooms suspended in corn spoonbread are aggressively seasoned with black pepper, and grilled albacore is so overcooked that even brothy mayocoba beans can’t save it. The dining room feels just as lackluster, with inconsistent gaps between courses. So what’s the silver lining? Is there a silver lining? Yes, their crusty homemade bread—made from freshly milled flour—is an outstanding specimen of chewy char and pillowy dough. But that’s not quite enough to warrant spending $80 per person yet. We’ll be back to try more soon." - Aimee Rizzo

I’m not doing myself any favors by adding to the chorus of people singing the praises of this restaurant, but it’s been discovered already, and it deserves the praise. We have been looking for a “replacement” for Pair in Ravenna/Bryant since Covid shut it down and then the owner died. Three Sacks Full (TSF), is exactly the sort of neighborhood gem that we’ve been looking for. Once a popup, it’s now in permanent space about a block west of the whole foods grocery. The ingredients are sourced from Washington and Oregon, and rotate based on what’s available. Yet the creativity of the menu elevates everything, even when winter squash is the most plentiful thing around. TSF preparations are interesting and thoughtful, but not fussy or pretentious. It’s the sort of restaurant that inspires me want to try some new foods at home. It also reminds me that we are so lucky to live where we do, with amazing food options year round. Most dishes are vegetables and grains, but there are a couple of meat and seafood options, too. Crepes w Beechers cheddar and pickled serranos? I would not have thought to put those together. And I would happily devour enough to make a meal. Grilled radish salad? I never thought of grilling radishes, but doing that took the astringency out of them. Delicious. The grilled steak was perfect. The olive oil cake is exactly the right amount of sweetness. Our server was great; she knew how to make sure we were taken care of without being over-involved. And she knew the menu and wine list well. Speaking of wine; how nice to get a chardonnay that’s not an icy oak bomb! And it was served chilled but not ice cold, which seems far too common. I don’t care what “American tastes” are, it’s nice to get a glass of wine that’s as thoughtfully served as everything else on the menu. TSF is not cheap, but prices seem aligned with comparable restaurants, and less expensive than some chains. We shared three plates and dessert, and had three drinks, and the tab was $125 before tip. We don’t spend that much on a whim. But the good news is I don’t regret it at all. It can be tough to get a seat. This is a small space. But it’s absolutely worth it. I can’t wait to go back.

Cozy spot that feels like your very talented chef friend has invited you to their house for dinner. My friend and I went several months ago and loved the place. My husband has several dietary restrictions and I quietly check their menu periodically to see if it looks like there are dishes he can eat with few mods. As luck would have it, my my parents offered a last minute date night. I texted at 3 pm (see? It feels like visiting a friend) and they were able to squeeze us in at the bar. Here's where sourcing from local farms and knowing them ourselves comes in handy - I already knew my browsing the menu that the Olsen Farms pork chop would be fine for my husband and the Samish Bay yogurt would not (kudos to TSF for listing the farms - in this case it really helped me!). The menu is vegetable forward but with SO much flavor. We shared the best bread and olive oil, a salad with beets, mustard seeds and pickled kohlrabi, a wonderful vegan pumpkin soup and a juicy pork chop with grated horseradish, Brussels sprouts and a grilled potato. There are half a dozen or more non-alcoholic options with lots of flavor profiles. It's unusual to find more than one or two at most restaurants, let alone options that aren't just juice blends or cans. I had an Autumn mocktail with a lovely bitter and herbal finish that I'd drink again with pleasure. The service is outstanding - I overheard Michael chatting with other guests about wine in the way only someone who loves it can, and he made us feel at ease with dietary restrictions since he clearly knew the food inside and out. 10/10 recommend and will be back whenever the menu allows!

Google
Had a delightful meal here! Loved the atmosphere. Brought our own bottle of wine and they only charged $20 Ordered several small plates per the server’s suggestion and all were delicious. Loved all of it.

My wife and I had a great meal tonite - imaginative and creative dishes that we are still talking about hours after our meal - beet/leeks, carrots in smoky yoghurt and kale (our favorite), eggs and anchovies , bread (I’m a baker, and bread was Excellent ), giant fried smelt and beef shoulder. We brought bottle of wine but they have a great wine list. I wish I could have had a martini, but they have a great non-spirit cocktail list. If you love Off Alley, you’ll love this place.

Google
This restaurant is ridiculously good. Every dish has an amazing combination of flavors. Menu changes regularly. It’s a bit confusing to me the restaurant isn’t booked out every night of the week. This place could easily win awards. The dishes are creative, the ingredients fresh and well prepared, and the service is lovely. The staff is knowledgeable about wine, but not at all pretentious. I think perhaps the vegetable-forward menu scares off meat lovers, but everyone will be pleased regardless of your dietary preferences !

Google
Great food, outstanding service, friendly staff. WARNING: Business will close early if slow - check with the restaurant if coming later so you don't waste a trip. Menu was vegetarian forward (but not all vegetarian) plus they have a good selection of non-alcoholic cocktails.

Google
A few business notes: -They're open for wine sales 4-10pm but the hours above are 5-9 to reflect the kitchen hours. -They don't sell liquor but offer aperitif or amaro or wine based cocktails as well as lots of neat sounding non alcoholic mocktails. - recommend reservations through the number on their website, they got busy on a Saturday night at least Now onto the corny adoration: My partner described our dining saying, "it's like you're at the symphony with the composer in the audience," which I just loved. It felt like we were there for such a special experience of artistic creation. I can't find any room for improvement; what a wonderful experience! The morels were perhaps my favorite with their richness and meatiness fabulously featured, but the rhubarb dessert was also mild and lovely. The food was so thoughtfully prepared with such delicious local ingredients and the beverages were exquisite and wonderfully recommended for pairing. Thank you for a perfect evening.

Google
Super cozy atmosphere and really delicious food! The house-made bread is terrific; the other dishes were great too but the menu changes often enough that it’s hard to specifically recommend something. Regardless of what’s on the menu, there will be plenty of vegetable and grain focused items that use local, seasonal ingredients!

Yelp
Such a cute and whimsical restaurant! Service was lovely and they had some great recommendations. I was mainly interested due to the extensive NA options. I got a rosemary and elderflower mocktail. It was very refreshing a perfect finisher for a night. I shared a dessert with a friend and the clafoutis was perfect. Perfectly sweet cherries in a flan like cake with a side of sweetened whipped cream was a perfect combo. We got to sit at the outdoor area and the night was perfect with the slight breeze. I'll definitely be back to try the food! The menu also changes a lot but looks pretty seasonal!

Yelp
Rotating menu, we nearly tried everything family style with our party - every dish was delicious and had some unique take on the dish. Reasonable prices overall, including their drink menu as well. Service was friendly, gave great recommendations - and very intimate but casual atmosphere, not great for super large parties IMO (+10 might feel tight) but seemed like a great spot for date night or get together with a small group of friends. Will be coming back! And parking surprisingly not that bad, but would plan a few extra minutes to find parking.

Yelp
If I could give six stars I would!!! I love this place so much. This restaurant was literally made for me. It is dreamy. It's a small restaurant inside a wine shop. It is homey and simple, yet elevated. Perfect for a little celebration or date night. Excellent service with great people working here and they give stellar recommendations. The amazing food though is why this place gets my stars. The menu had lots of delicious and elevated vegetarian dishes that were all so flavorful and downright delicious. For those who want to indulge but are also trying to be more plant-based and health/environmentally conscious, look no further (they also have seafood and meat options for you carnivores out there!). You leave here feeling full and happy, not gross. Super awesome too because all the ingredients are locally sourced and seasonal, which also explains their weekly rotating menu. Wine and drinks were also solid. Highly recommend sharing a bunch of different small plates when you come here. Just make sure you text to make a reservation in advance as it's small and the place fills up quickly (and for good reason!)

Yelp
I was in Seattle for a conference, and I was so fortunate to be included in a group going out to dinner with a local who recommended this restaurant. This was simply a fantastic dining experience. Three Sacks Full was a quiet and cozy environment and I felt like I was in somebody's home. It was quiet and easy to have conversation, and we had absolutely amazing service. Items on the menu are sourced from local places and the menu items reportedly change frequently. There were so many amazing options and combinations, and it was definitely a very easy place to eat for a vegetarian. There were five of us, and we just decided to share a variety of items on the menu. Some of the highlights for us included the incredible homemade country sourdough bread, that came with the most delicious butter and olive oil. We couldn't get enough of this bread and ended up ordering three servings! We especially loved the puntarelle salad with roasted beets. The horseradish in this salad was simply the best. The leeks vinaigrette salad with pear, shaved fennel and pickled serranos was such a delicious and unique combination. Another highlight was the cornmeal spoon bread, which we all felt was the perfect comfort food. We decided to share the grilled pork chop that were accompanied by a perfectly spiced red lentil side dish. We paired all of these foods with a local Oregon wine. Matthew, who I think was the owner, opened the wine for us and told us the backstory of where it was from. We ended with all three desserts from the menu and we especially loved the quince torte with whipped cream. This was the most perfect place to have an amazing intimate meal with friends with locally sourced delicious and unique food combinations. This was hands-down my best meal in Seattle.

Yelp
A small, cozy local restaurant with a seasonal menu, innovative flavors, and an extensive wine list. This is a great spot for a date night, or just a nice place for dinner if you want to try fun dishes and chat over wine. We enjoyed most of our dishes, but giving this a 4/5 because some were misses. My favorite was the fritters. But I'm definitely eager to come back and try more items, as the ever-changing menu is exciting and the restaurant is so cute.

Yelp
Wow wow wow, haven't been treated to a meal like this in a while! This unassuming little spot in Ravenna is easy to overlook, but very quaint and cute inside. My book club decided to meet here for dinner and discussion and we were all so impressed! Our server was hilarious and so great, joining in on some of our book discussion and always quick to check on us. The food was incredible. We ordered practically the entire menu because everything looked delicious. Do not sleep on the bread, or the fritters, or the desserts. We had a the rhubarb sorbet and olive oil cake, and both were complex and delicious. I will definitely be back again soon!

Yelp
My husband and I dined at Three Sacks Full for the first time for the 4-course NYE Dinner, and felt it was the perfect occasion to do so! We both had the non-vegetarian option and were very happy with the courses, and felt it was very reasonably priced for the high quality of food. My personal favorite course was the 2nd--fried local oysters with carrot-lentil salad, mashed beets and garlicky yogurt. It was texturally perfect all around, and I absolutely love when fried food tastes light! I also loved the amuse, the smoked steelhead trout mousse with cara cara oranges and capers on blini. Service was attentive and timely, although there was a bit of an awkward interaction during dessert when my drink was taken away from the table without my input when I still had about 25% left. Regardless, the environment was cozy, and we're so happy to have Three Sacks Full in the neighborhood!

Yelp
I love coming to this charming restaurant ! It's small and intimate, perfect for any occasion. The owner and chef take such care and pride in their menu. I like to pop in and sit at the bar, have a glass of wine and try an interesting dish. I don't think I've ever had the same thing twice. Their menu changes often and is part of their charm. The dishes are so unique and always delicious! I would recommend a reservation if you plan to go at a peak time. I popped in around 4:30pm and got in easily. I overheard they were fully booked that night starting at 6pm. Highly recommend this place for a romantic night out for a date, friend or treating yourself! It's a fun experience and reminds me of being in Europe.

Yelp
Whoa! What a find! One of the best restaurants I've had anywhere, let alone Seattle. So nice, excellent unique dishes. If you're a foodie, the service and food will make you feel at home.

Yelp
Fabulous small local place - great food and wine and friendly service. Feel fortunate to have found it on the internet!

Yelp
If you're looking for a delicious farm to table meal, look no further! Matthew and his Team are making delectable creations with locally sourced ingredients. The ambience is warm and thoughtful, just like the greeting we received upon our arrival. We enjoyed a few dishes, one of which Matthew suggested. Portions were generous and filling, each bite filled with thoughtful savory flavors.. Such a yummy experience, we will most definitely be back for more.

Yelp
Second time visiting here, it was much busier than the first time I went - and for good reason. For me, the highlight of Three Sacks Full is the rotating and highly creative vegetable-leaning menu. The first time I went, I tried nettles for the first time. This time around, they had maple blossom fritters on the menu, also a first. And I had already ordered too much, but was intrigued to try the fiddlehead ferns in a salad. All of the food has been creative, exceptionally tasty, and presented well. The ambiance keeps up, with it being a small space yet never feeling too crowded. If you are into wine, they have a well curated selection available at reasonable prices, and it seems they also do tastings on a monthly (perhaps more often?) basis. Overall, a wonderful place to have open up in the Roosevelt neighborhood.

Laura S.

Yelp
What a gem. I have rarely walked into a restaurant and wanted to order everything on the menu. I ended up choosing the roast chicken and maybe it's just me that will appreciate this so thoroughly but they aren't using onion and garlic as a crutch to develop rich complex flavor. They're using fermentation and amazing unique ingredients like celeriac. So if you're onion and garlic challenged like I am, you can thoroughly enjoy a meal out and drive home without popping half a bottle of tums. Amience also very suitable for conversation. Great date place.

Robert W.

Yelp
While their menu is vegetable and grains-forward there's something here for everyone, with something new every week. The sommelier here and the chef both are just beyond amazing. The service is comfortable, warm, and impeccable. For Seattle, this is five-star dining at three-star prices. Inventive, local, and thoughtfully prepared dishes with wines local, domestic, and international. If you've been looking for something that will rekindle your love of simple, exquisitely prepared food, this is it!

Yelp
I had dinner at Three Sacks Full last night with a friend. It was a wonderful experience and I recommend it highly. We shared several of the vegetarian plates. All were inventive and delicious. The silken egg custard with black trumpet mushrooms was a dish I had never eaten. It was creamy and laced with leeks, celeriac and local seaweed. What a marvelous discovery. Yum! The wine list here is extensive and you can buy and take wine home as well as drinking it in the restaurant. Lots of great wine here to enjoy. Matthew and Michael have created a warm, intimate and cozy neighborhood restaurant. The service is friendly and attentive. Can't wait to eat here again!

Yelp
This is one of our favorite restaurants in Seattle, if not the favorite. We had been doing their twice-a-month popups since before the pandemic, and it's exciting to see the proprietors, Michael (chef) and Matthew (front of house), get their own restaurant space finally. The food is consistently amazing. Always local, always seasonal, and always fresh. Simple ingredients prepared elegantly. The menu rotates weekly, so even if you're a regular, there's something new all the time. While not identified on the menu, there are always vegan options, and many dishes can also be made vegan. My wife and I are vegan, and TSF is one of the few non-vegan restaurants where we have a surfeit of options to choose from every time we dine. Also, for those who do not drink, TSF has some great non-alcoholic options. There's a handful of mocktails, and always a NA beer and a NA wine on the menu. Vibe-wise, the space is cozy. They've done their best to add sound-reducing features (sound-absorbing panels, fabric seat backs, etc.), but at peak times it can be a little loud. Service is also wonderful. Matthew greets and seats you, and is never not charming. Service is handled on a team basis, with Matthew, the lone waiter (whose name I cannot recall), and the sous chef (whose name I also cannot recall) tag teaming -- at times, Michael will come out of the kitchen and also deliver a dish. TSF is a hidden gem in Seattle. You owe it to yourself to go!

Yelp
Fantastic new restaurant in the former Souper Bol, Three Sacks Full started off as a pop up and now has a permanent location. Their focus is on carefully sourced vegetables and grains, although they do have a couple of fish and pork dishes. I had one of my favorite meals in 2023 and it was largely vegetarian! The starter was probably the most animal-laden dish which was a soft boiled with a small sliver of anchovy. It was a perfect starter. Next up was a celery and sorrel soup. I haven't had sorrel soup in years, and my last attempt in making one ended in utter failure. But the version here was exemplary and the celery was a perfect match. We then tried a yacon and mashed beet salad which was spectacular. Never had yacon before and it reminded me of jicama, and the beets which were roasted before were so good that even people who don't like beets will like it. Finally, we had spoon bread with leeks and whatcom blue cheese, which reminded me of grits. It was a comforting dish and perfect for the fall weather. There is an interesting selection of wines, and they also operate as a wine shop. But I really enjoyed their non-wine options such as a nice dry sherry cocktail, a shot of amaro from Faccia Brutus, and a great fortified wine - pineau des Charentes. we sat at the bar and service was solid and informative. Love the cozy space and hopsitality. Will definitely come back again!

Yelp
Refined, delicious, locally sourced, unstuffy, with many nods to French cuisine (and yes I said "unstuffy," oui merde c'est possible!). I loved the diversity of grains represented in the bread, cookies, and other dishes. I knew it would be a good meal right from the opening snack of three-grain sourdough with local butter. That bread was chewy and crusty in all the right ways. The kiwi-kohlrabi-beet salad was colorful, juicy, and well balanced. Everything felt creative and cared for, but not precious. My dinner companion doesn't drink alcohol, so I had a glass of the Poggio white wine cocktail, which felt festive without making me sad about drinking alone. Despite my best efforts I didn't have room for dessert, so I'll have to go back because all three options are tempting.

Yelp
Went here on a whim and now it will be a regular go to! Each dish was delicious and creative. Service was lovely and attentive.

Yelp
We went for a tasting menu night. All the produce and meat was local and seasonal. They had a wine wall with descriptions at very approachable price points that was fun to look through. The service was also fantastic.

Yelp
This review is long overdue as we came several weeks ago for their opening weekend. The space is small and inviting, and service, while on the slower side, was attentive, welcoming, and accommodating. The menu is plant-forward and changes regularly, so what we had will likely differ from the current menu. On the one hand, it's a shame because everything we had was very delicious and I'd love the opportunity to try it all again. But on the other hand, I can't wait to see what's in store on my next visit. Most plates are designed for sharing which is what the six of us did. That allowed us to sample a good portion of the menu. Standouts were the black-eyed pea fritters with tahini and the lobster mushroom cabbage rolls. Those were my personal favorites, but again, everything was really great. They had a nice wine list and a few wine-based house cocktails, as well as some interesting NA options (I'm looking at you, yuzu soda). Looking forward to returning!

Bill C.

Yelp
Excellent! Enjoy visiting with Matthew. Wish to go back again. I want to ask Matthew how they made that great sauce for the black cod. It's fantastic.

Doug I.

Yelp
This may be the best restaurant in Seattle now. The food was simply amazing and the service a perfect balance of informative and friendly without being superficial and overdone. All the dishes we had were delicious and so fresh it seemed like they had been picked or caught that morning. We will be going back for sure very soon.

Yelp
The food here is absolutely deliciously. Highly recommend. If you are into farm to table this is the spot.

Kelly C.

Yelp
What a great farm-to-table, neighborhood restaurant. The service was wonderful. The owner and staff were very helpful with food and wine selection. My husband and I shared 4 dishes and they were all delicious. We will be returning soon!

L H.

Yelp
Best meal of the year! Their plates are so well thought out. They take a perfectly prepared dish and add something extra (like seeds or a prepared sauce) that makes it exceptional. The snap pea salad is a highlight, as was the smoked plum mocktail.

Tilly M.

Yelp
Superb farm to table food. Beautifully and creatively prepared. Excellent servers. Fair pricing. Great date night restaurant. Tables are close together.

Honor R.

Yelp
I echo the previous 5 star reviewers: delicious, seasonal, special food served with ease and warmth. Every bite and sip is perfection! Such a gift to the neighborhood - I want to be a regular!

Lois B.

Yelp
Wonderful new restaurant (and retail wine store and prepared take out fridge) with warm, welcoming and knowledgeable owner and staff. Food is delicious; I've been twice in a week and the menu had some same and some different offerings from my previous visit. Dynamic chef who uses locally sourced ingredients. It's a small venue, so wise to make a reservation, although they do have counter space. Fantastic addition to the neighborhood.

Alexander H.

Yelp
The most inspiring use of vegetables in the city. A hyper seasonal menu in an adorable location makes dining here feel truly special. Prompt service rounds out the experience to make it one truly worth trying.
