"This unmarked tasting menu restaurant uses relatively simple and seasonal ingredients as the base of phenomenal dishes, like bok choy sprinkled with furikake, or Japanese sweet potato on top of kimchi and creamy hazelnut-soy milk. Although servers might place plates on the table in one synchronized movement, it’s not stuffy— there’s lively music, the staff is friendly, and you can eat here without a suit jacket. If there aren’t any reservations available for the five-course tasting menu, the bar accepts walk-in seating. "Tomo truly excels in coaxing intense flavor out of fresh produce and dairy. We’re talking about plates like barley porridge with eggplant and dill pollen that tastes like a meatless Reuben soup, candy-like charred squash in a puddle of tangy cream with polka dots of dandelion and chilhuacle oils, and sunchokes roasted to the point of sticky caramelization with persimmon. Mushrooms become meaty, gigante beans become a bowl of cacio e pepe, and sea lettuce becomes royalty. Access exclusive reservations with your sapphire reserve card" - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley

"White Center restaurant Tomo was highly anticipated when it opened in fall 2021 in a former adult video store. It’s serious food but done in a fun, approachable style. There is a tasting menu for $105, which is a slightly lower price point than many fine dining restaurants — but you may be tempted by a la carte options anyway, which in the recent past have included honey and yuzu pork ribs and salt and vinegar fried chicken." - Harry Cheadle

"The name Tomo means “friend” in Japanese and pays homage to Tomoko Ishiwata Bristol, the grandmother of former Canlis chef Brady Williams. Book a seat inside the lauded chef’s intimate White Center restaurant for dinners of hyper-seasonal Pacific Northwest cuisine like pork collar with squash, fermented radish chawanmushi, and sweet potato with miso caramel." - Eater Staff

"Kakigori sits on the menu at this fancy White Center restaurant like a tease: an “optional” add-on for $20. The price is a bit steep for an add-on, but it’s not really optional. You absolutely must get the heaping mound of Japanese shaved ice that quite literally melts in your mouth. The toppings change often, but you’ll often poke around and find seasonal fruit such as rhubarb or apple chunks hiding within the kakigori’s slopes, which seems as if they should have little figurines skiing on them. Go ahead and share, if you must—but a skirmish may break out over one last bite.  " - kayla sager riley, aimee rizzo, gabe guarente
