The structural integrity of lavash gets tested with every one of these tahini-lathered roll-ups stuffed with onions, tomato, thinly shaved slices of chicken, lamb, or fried orbs of chickpeas. Our favorite is the Deluxe, which comes with all the fixings plus potatoes and chunks of eggplant that have been bathing in meat drippings. For a lavash-less deconstructed version, try the plates (only slightly less messy to eat). Seating is limited with a few indoor stools and a couple outdoor tables. "Truly Mediterranean, owner Walid Zeidan’s 'Mediterranean Delicatessen with a Special Touch,' has a second location to add to the 16th Street original he’s operated since 1992. The new shop is also on 16th, but way down in Mission Bay, at 900 16th St (between 7th and Mississippi). There, its menu of wraps, combo plates, and falafel appears the same, though the atmosphere is sleeker in a shiny new building." - Caleb Pershan
