Where To Eat When You’re Visiting Tokyo - Tokyo - The Infatuation

"If you’re visiting Tokyo, Udatsu Sushi in Naka-meguro is the omakase to prioritize. You’ll eat things like flash-fried nori cushioning hot vinegared rice with heaping mounds of Hokkaido uni that taste like a quick dip in a cool ocean. Marinated mackerel is stuffed, rolled in that crisp nori, and cut into slices resembling kaleidoscopes before being served on a frosted plate with an equally intricate design. Each piece of fish is explained in English and appears more bejeweled than the last, and by the end of the meal, you’re full and happy. There are four main omakase options (including a vegetarian course), but lunch is our favorite time to go. At 14,520 yen ($105), it’s a steal for this kind of quality." - kiera wright ruiz

UDATSU SUSHI

"Hisashi Udatsu offers ‘tradition and evolution in sushi’, weaving together by-the-book sushi preparation and creative toppings. The Herb Maki, fish and herbs wrapped in nori, and the Veggie Roll, a cone-shaped roll of vegetables and vinegared rice, are only offered here. To modulate his menu, Udatsu uses vegetables in season. Art from Japan and overseas can be found throughout, using the interior to depict the evolution of sushi restaurants." - Michelin Inspector

The 23 Best Sushi Restaurants in Tokyo, from Michelin Star Omakase to Conveyer Belt Bars | Condé Nast Traveler

"Hisahi Udatsu is well versed in the classics but adds touches of creativity in bites like the hay-scented tuna, presented under a glass dome of smoke; a verdant and refreshing roll filled with fresh herbs and vegetables from a local farm; and richly marbled wagyu, charcoal-seared and served as nigiri. Vegetarian menus are available upon request at the time of booking. Popular with local and international creatives, this is where Kanye West and Dave Chappelle eat when they come to Tokyo." - Melinda Joe

21 Best Bars in Tokyo, from Hotel Lounges to a Tequila Speakeasy | Condé Nast Traveler

"There’s no sign for this luxe tequila den, hidden behind a sliding wooden door beside Udatsu Sushi in Nakameguro. But if you know, you know. This is a treasure trove of top-shelf tequila–including vintage numbers from Ferri’s personal collection–and artisanal mezcal. Limited-edition ceramic bottles of Clase Azul tequila stand like a colorful sentry on the vermillion backlit bar shelves. Start with a Clase Azul highball and move on to a seasonal-fruit margarita. More than mere bar snacks, the menu shows off the creativity of Peruvian chef Ivalu Acurio, who whips up delectable plates of hamaguri clam ceviche, handmade corn empanadas and spicy pulled-pork sandwiches with shiso and mint in a shoebox-sized kitchen. Tasting menus, paired with tequila and featuring wagyu steak from Kagoshima, can be booked in advance for up to 10 guests." - Melinda Joe
