Unco Frank’s - Review - Richmond - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"The options for Hawaiian food in SF were slim until this pop-up arrived on the scene. Has your body ever woken you up in the middle of the night with an inexplicable craving for macaroni salad, perfectly fried mochiko chicken, and mini fried cod sandwiches? Unco Frank's to the rescue. The pop-up is currently in charge of the food menu at the Richmond wine bar, High Treason, so get into their fried, grilled, and panko-crusted dishes while drinking some wine and listening to records." - Julia Chen

The Best New Bay Area Pop-Ups - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"“Say the words ‘macaroni salad’ to me and I will [REDACTED] in order to get some. Luckily, Unco Frank’s exists, and makes a fantastic version. Their menu changes, but if you see the plate lunch with salt and pepper karaage, kalua pork, and their excellent macaroni salad, order it immediately. It’s a behemoth, filled with all sorts of crunchy, creamy textures in every bite. The menu might also include things like loaded furikake fries topped with kalua pork, kimchi, garlic butter, and lemon aioli, or a fish sandwich with panko-crusted mahi-mahi. Unco Frank’s is at The Devil’s Acre’s parklet from Thursday to Sunday, or at Pagan Idol from Tuesday to Saturday.” - JC" - Julia Chen 1, Lani Conway

Infatuation Staff Writer Julia Chen's 5 Favorite Pop-Ups In SF & The East Bay - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"This fantastic Hawaiian pop-up is, well, popping up, at The Devil’s Acre’s outdoor dining setup from Tuesday to Sunday. The menu changes, but you can expect to see things like a panko-crusted cod sandwich or furikake fries on the menu. On my most recent visit, I ordered their plate lunch, which was loaded with furikake rice, crunchy, perfectly-fried salt and pepper karaage, smoky kalua pork, and a creamy mac salad that was by far the best I’ve had in recent memory. How to order: Unco Frank’s is currently in charge of the food menu at The Devil’s Acre in North Beach. Keep an eye on their Instagram for updates." - Julia Chen 1

nestled within the high treason wine bar, unco franks is a great date spot serving delicious hawaiian cuisine. mochiko chicken: must try! perfectly crispy and the batter is packed with flavor mac salad: solid side dish, pairs well with the fried chicken shrimp: a little too salty but well cooked

Google
Loud wine bar but fun atmosphere with a group of friends. Multiple beverage options for everyone including sake and non alcoholic. Food was great and in decent portions. Pupu plater was great for the group. I loved the mochiko chicken and the kalua pork sliders were also a hit. Coconut shrimp also great. The mac salad creaminess and white pepper stood out. The short ribs were cooked well. Could pass on the chicken teriyaki tho the portion size was good.

Google
Restaurant pop-up in the wine bar The Bitter End (a little confusing to figure out what was going on as the service was a bit awkward). Small but varied menu of Hawaiian dishes. We got the PuPu platter with rice and Mac salad to get a taste of everything. Food was great but very salty. Fries were the highlight with a savory, spicy sauce. Fried chicken was okay. Looked like a lot of food came from the freezer, doesn't matter much when it's all fried anyway. Very nice vibe in the wine bar, sort of a hipster approach with vinyls all over the place.

Google
super solid ‘bar food’. everything came out hot and fresh, coconut shrimp was definitely our favorite. we loved the space and the staff are awesome!

Google
High Treason is the entrance and Unko Frank's is Hawaiian food is served. The service is quick everyone is attentive and food has a slight twist on Hawaiian classics and is delicious! Mid- Upper tier wine and sake is offered but where else can you have wine, listen to vinyl and eat Hawaiian? Definitely great for 1st, 2nd or any date night!

Google
Mochiko chicken is delicious, kalbi was good, and mac salad was unfortunately just not it. It was super mayo and citrus (like lemon, not apple cider vinegar) heavy and didn’t hit the spot for us when we were craving authentic mac salad.

Jerry

Google
Mochiko Chicken - Pretty decent. Lightly fried chunks with a soft crispy batter. Glazed slightly sweet and savory. Different than how typically done in Hawaii. Mac salad was light on mayo and flavor, quite peppery, had carrots. Would've preferred soft white rice. The greens were nice.

Google
Unco Frank catered our company holiday party of over 70 people! He was patient with our growing guest list right up to the last day. The pricing was affordable for the group and it included gratuity and delivery. The food.... was amazing. Not one person out of 75 had anything but wonderful things to say! The portions were large enough that we had unexpected added guests and there were still a ton of left overs to share with those that remained until the end. I can't wait to go back on my own and try other items. Frank also worked with our Vegan and Vegatarian guests. Easy to commmunicate with and expectations were exceeded! Thank You Frank for making our best holiday party THE BEST!

Yelp
Pupu platter is definitely a must try. The Pupu platter at Unco Frank's was delicious. It came with kalua pork sliders, spam fries, and fried chicken. The highlight of the dish was definitely the fried chicken. It was really juicy and crispy! The flavor the fried chicken came with was similar to honey butter almost. The Pupu platter derives from the Hawaiian word pu-pu which means appetizers. Essentially, it's a tray of appetizers! Our friends also order other assortments such as the edamame, macaroni salad, and coconut shrimps! They also said they really enjoyed it! Overall, great experience, staff was super friendly, and it wasn't too busy as well. We were able to grab a seat immediately.

Yelp
Spur of the moment early dinner at Unco Frank's! When we arrived, the restaurant was quiet with just a few people having cocktails. We sat in the back with the only table that seats 4. Their menu is limited and they were out of Teri Chicken. And looking at reviews, I noticed their menu seemed to have shrunk having fewer choices. So we only ordered 3 dishes. ***OUR PICKS*** GRILLED KALBI ~ small platter of kalbi without any rice, salad or anything. I thought this came with sides and was a complete meal. Flavor was on point and meat was good, but the value wasn't there and it felt like we got an incomplete dish. 2/5 PUPU PLATTER ~ this is like a sampler platter that was perfect as a taster, since there was 4 of us. I enjoyed the mochiko chicken best. Fries were crispy, though nothing out of this world with the addition of spam and kimchi. Just made it salty. And the pork sliders were ok. The main portion of this dish was the fries. We got 3 pieces of chicken and 2 small sliders. 3.5/5 MAC SALAD ~ You have to order this separately though I should be included with the entrees. Although this Mac salad was creamy, I only tasted black pepper. Pretty one note. And it was grey in color which isn't appetizing. 2/5 When you order kalbi at any restaurant, you get sides and do not have to order them separately. It should have been a meal especially if we didn't have the pupu platter. That was so disappointing. I guess it's more of a bar and Hawaiian tapas kind of spot. Can't say I'll be back when there are plenty of other Hawaiian restaurants to choose from that give better portions and food.

Yelp
We had Unco Frank's cater a baby shower and had a fantastic experience! The food was so delicious and portions were very generous. The Mochiko chicken was flavorful, crispy yet moist. Everyone was raving about the food(particularly the mochiko chicken and the pork) and kept asking me where the food was from. Frank was very patient, kind and responsive. He was great about making the menu to feed our large group and staying within our proposed budget. He delivered the food on time and was communicative throughout the entire process. Overall, we loved working with Unco Frank's and highly recommend it for events!

Yelp
May 2025 - This place is such a hidden gem! Really hard to find, but the food was good and I've had it twice now! If you're craving Hawaiian food, this is a great spot!

Yelp
When I heard there was Hawaiian food to be devoured on Clement, I just figured it would look like a plate lunch joint like on Oahu but maybe with atmospheric touches like retro tiki wallpaper, murals of pipeline surfers, and twangy ukulele music coming out of the speakers. I must be living in an Elvis 'Blue Hawaii' fever dream because it's nothing like that here. Instead it's a darkly stylish wine bar that happens to have a Hawaiian food menu. Surprisingly it all goes well together. For instance, I started with a $16 specialty cocktail called Death in the Afternoon which mixed champagne and absinthe cordial into an effervescent libation (photo: https://yelp.to/ROPW68ABxm). You might be surprised to find out champagne is compatible with... Auntie Rob's Fried Rice for $16. It was a classic rendition with Spam, ginger, scallions, mushrooms, and a sunnyside up egg (photo: https://yelp.to/BSXmNY3xHC). I was quite satisfied, and it was encouraging to see plenty of other local grindz on their menu like mochiko chicken, kalua pig sliders, and coconut shrimp. I think everyone deserves a little champagne with their fried rice, don't you? FOOD - 4 stars...local grindz done pretty well COCKTAIL - 4.5 stars...a bubbly delight AMBIANCE - 4 stars...modern and not too crowded in the afternoon SERVICE - 4 stars...friendly bartender who handles the food orders TOTAL - 4 stars...a different way to have Hawaiian RELATED - Exploring the Richmond? Yelp
Only because I was looking for Richmond District food and drinks on a Monday evening did I stumble upon Unco Frank's, a purveyor of Hawaiian "grindz" operating inside a Clement Street wine bar (High Treason). It's a mash-up that sounds unworkable as I've never once craved Hawaiian fare alongside my Cabernet but remarkably, it does work, quite well. I waffled between Furikake Fries ($11) and "Da Works Fries" ($17) before looking at another table and seeing the size of the latter. As much as I love fries - all fries - this was dinner and I wanted something a little more varied. The Pupu Platter ($28) over-serves two, and includes Da Works Fries, 2 Kalua Pig Sliders, and a few delicious pieces of Mochiko Chicken. I think it's the perfect thing to order here, allowing you to sample a few different things without tiring of any of them. It was a delicious combination. If you're still put off by the idea of grindz with wine do know that High Treason's menu, despite it being a wine bar, includes beer and other drinks, some featuring no alcohol at all. Unco Frank's is a delightfully tasty discovery that one would likely have to know of to unearth. And now you do.

Yelp
The restaurant reminds me of a speakeasy because the whole time you question if you're in the right spot haha. I was not expecting a wine bar collab, but the atmosphere felt chic and elegant. I think people come for the wine and less for the Hawaiian food, but you'd be missing out! The pupu platter is scrumptious! The mini sandos literally melt in your mouth and I could eat five of them in a row. You know it's good because I don't prefer pickles on my sandwiches, but I left it in anyway! The coconut shrimp was not juicy or flavorful enough, so I'd pass on that. A great place to spend an evening alone or with friends. I saw several soloists, one was reading at the bar, and that was cool to see!

Steven V.

Yelp
What can I say, this food was amazing. The chicken and the coconut shrimp were cooked perfectly. Thank you Unco Frank!
google avatar

Melody L.

Yelp
Unco Franks got the ono grindz! I really dig this permanent food pop up inside High Treason, especially since there's not much Hawaiian food in the city. Pupu platter was a great way to get a taste of the appetizers, and even better to wash it down with a nice glass of wine in a hip wine bar. I've frequently walked by this place on Clement St, so it was awesome to finally go in and enjoy the casual atmosphere and delicious food.

Yelp
Ok... Was looking for a place for the fam to eat since we're not in this area too often. Saw this place on Yelp and was craving some Hawaiian food. Now, keep in mind, after seeing some reviews, I was expecting a Noelani's type vibe (San Carlos). Boy was we all wrong. We park and keep missing the front door. The sign to the place is real small - almost like a secret hidden spot. Walk in, and the ambiance is dark, and there is some funk/pop rock music playing in the background. This is weird I tell the mrs. So we grab some menus and sit towards the front, galley seating style. Ordered furikake fries, fried rice, mochiko chicken, mac salad, and some fish sandos. Fries-these were pretty good. You can taste the butter and olive oil and furikake thats doused in the fries. Might have been heavy handed on the sauce, but otherwise, these were good. Fried rice-probably the best dish and most in line with "traditional" fried rice when you're talking Hawaiian food. Spam, onions, garlic, and some umami taste I can't figure out. Oh and a sunny side egg. Pretty decent, but again, heavy handed on the oil. Mochiko chicken-was most excited for this one. But it's really a fusion dish. It's crispy boneless chicken, but waaaay too much sauce poured on it. The bottom was literally all yellowish sweet sauce. Dunno what it is, but this dish would have been awesome if not for the sauce. Mac salad - was okay. Similar in flavor and texture to local style. Fish - hard pass, no bueno. They do a brisk take-out business, which is weird. And it looks like full plates with rice and ish. TLDR - this place is bar first, then pupu style restaurant far second. Patrons younger and having a good time, but most were just drinking and picking on some fries. Don't expect any type of Hawaiian vibe at all.

Yelp
And again....Unco Frank absolutely kills it! Two years in a row he's prepared food for our daughter's large birthday party. The food was simply outstanding and the service was first rate. My wife and I (and all the guests) couldn't think more highly of Unco Frank. I give my highest recommendation! A+, 10/10, Blue Ribbon, Gold Star
google avatar

Wilson J.

Yelp
Great customer service! The vibe of the venue was very mellow... food presentation must I say it really looks good. It's pretty populated around evening times.

Kira K.

Yelp
This is my second time trying Unco Frank's , and I'm really impressed. The teriyaki chicken was tender and full of flavor. The furikake fries were also fantastic--a unique and delicious flavor combination. Highly recommend and friendly owner:)
google avatar

Yelp
Everything, you must try everything! Nestled within a wine bar is Unco Frank's, a fresh, modern take on Hawaiian food. And boy, everything single dish had me saying "Oh my god!" If you want a taste of all their classics, get the Pupu Platter -- it's perfect to share with two people. The coconut shrimp is hot, crispy and tender! The Mac salad has a peppery kick! All in all, a solid place for a quick bite and a glass of wine/beer. The service was stellar as well -- friendly and fast. I definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a casual place with solid bites and drinks.

Yelp
My friend and I ordered to go. Apparently there is a separate togo menu that offers different things. If you order to go, the sliders come with fries. The pupu plater is not offered for togo orders. The food was amazing, however I might only grab the carb options again, as 17 for three tiny sliders didn't feel great. I would have just gone for the fries on their own and the mac salad. While we didn't eat there, we waited in the dining room. Everyone working there was super kind in helping explain the differences between togo and dine in orders. The location itself looked beautiful and newly opened. The place had a San Diego feel to it. It had a chill vibe early in the evening when the dinner rush hadn't set in.

Yelp
I should have read the yelp reviews before ordering the mac salad. I was thrown off by the not traditional Hawaiian mac salad taste. You better LOVE black pepper to get this. I honestly thought they messed up by adding soooooo much pepper! I had to ask our waiter is this normal or a mistake? Haha We got the pupu platter to try it all, Michiko chicken good! Spam kimchi fries delicious! Now the fish in the fish sliders, hmmm was super fishy and dry kinda tasted like frozen fish. If I went back, fries and chicken for sure.
google avatar

Matthew T.

Yelp
Unco Frank's is located inside High Treason. There's a sign outside, but we had to ask to make sure we were in the right place. We ordered furikake fries, mochiko chicken, and grilled kalbi. The mochiko chicken was really crispy and flavorful, but a little overcooked. I really liked the kalbi here, it's not too salty compared to the ones I've had at KBBQ. Note that the entrees don't come with rice and mac salad so we had to order them on the side. They did mention the takeout menu being a bit different so we'll definitely be coming back for takeout!

Yelp
After going to Hawaii a few times, I am always on the look out for good Hawaiian food back here in the mainland and Unco Frank's hits the spot when you're craving good Hawaiian food! Everything is super flavorful, I couldn't stop eating even after I was full. Unco Frank's was located inside of High Treason Wine Bar (look for the bright Unco Frank's sign in front!) - a cute and intimate wine bar, perfect for date night or a quick bite. My husband and I got a few plates to share - mochiko chicken, Auntie Rob's fried rice, Hawaiian Mac salad and the grilled kalbi. Everything was honestly so good. I liked that you get that island flavor but with their own twist. My favorite has to be the mochiko chicken - it was crispy and saucy and had just the right texture. Service was amazing and I'll definitely be back when I visit SF!

Yelp
soo yummy! it was hard to find the entrance at first since i believe there was only a small sign outside of their door but the interior has a lot of unique wines. we got the pupu platter which was perfect as we got to try three items, all of which were hits and at a good price! the service was good too. would def recommend

Yelp
Talk about a hidden gem! We took a spontaneous trip up to SF, without a plan for food (very unlike us). We intended to go to Burma superstar, but because the wait there was long I asked my husband to pick a place nearby. He stumbled upon this on yelp, and I was quite skeptical at first given the limited reviews. I was like "sure, I'm hungry and Hawaiian food is good" so I wasn't trying to be picky this time. We walked over to it and it was a bit hard to find since it was a pop up at a bar called High Treason (they had a sign outside for Unco Frank's). It was well designed, had real records playing for music, and had a very nice ambiance! Good for a happy hour or casual date night. We ordered their pupu platter (serves 2), mac salad, and coconut shrimp. Pupu platter and Mac salad came out right away, and it was all so uniquely flavored and delicious! The Mac salad wasn't too creamy or mayo based, and had a peppery kick to it which I loved. The pork sliders were flavorful, with super tender pork. husband loved it. Fries were crisp, fresh, and lots of flavor from the sauces and the seared pieces of sausage. The best part was the mochiko chicken. First bites were so juicy and flavorful, and I wanted to order more right away. Tasted like a more sweet version of chicken karaage. The best part here was the service and care. As soon as we arrived, our server seated us and took our orders. He even offered to make a side salad for me that I requested from seeing on the reviews. Furthermore, he forgot that we ordered the coconut shrimp and even offered it on the house for us. It was a sweet gesture given we came with our little one and were in a slight rush for our meal. It was a wonderful and delightful surprise after a day in the city, and so glad we stumbled upon it! I gave mad props to my husband that day that I need to trust him more with dinner decisions hehe.

Yelp
The food is really good and delicious, but I wouldn't completely claim it as Hawaiian food because it feels more like a fusion. My friend and I had shared this sider combination dish and it was super filling! Unco Frank's was also located inside a bar? It was pretty confusing to find, which the staff acknowledged when we entered with confused faces. The overall vibe was moreso suited for the bar rather than the Hawaiian place, but it was still nice. I ended up just ordering a beer from the bar anyway.

Yelp
Two words - mochiko. chicken!!!! I got Unco Frank's mochiko chicken plate which had the mac salad (very peppery), regular salad, and pieces of mochiko chicken. The chicken was so delicious - it had a crunch and flavor unlike american fried chicken and the sesame sauce it was coated in was the perfect flavor! My friend got Da Works fries - also delicious and complements any of the plates! Friends told me Frank's coconut shrimp or galbi plate is a must-get as well. Looks like I have to come back!

Yelp
Unco franks catered some food for an event at my work and I have been craving it ever since! It's delicious and I really really wish they were open for lunch orders!! The highlight for me was the mac salad - it's a perfect hawaiian style mac salad punched up with a ton of black pepper, which I loved. I also thought the fried tofu dish was delicious, and everyone else was loving it too. Unfortunately it seems like this vegetarian option is not on available to order on the regular menu, though... Overall, everyone really loved this food! I will def be ordering some take out from them soon.

Yelp
First of all, placing an order for pickup is NOT EASY. Unco Frank's does not have a direct web presence. You need to place your order through: https://www.hightreasonsf.com/ Even getting to the website there is no easy link to order food from Unco Frank's. You need to type in "Unco Frank's" in the search bar on the website OK now for the food: The Chicken Teri Plate is really good, large chunks of juicy and tender chicken. The Mochiko Chicken Plate is even better than the the Teri Chicken. Crispy fried chicken. Juicy and tender; full of flavor. I cannot believe that its Mochi Flour. Da Works Fries - a bit spicy. Love Crinkle fries. The Spam and fries really work well together. The Kalbi plate is decent. Full of flavor; a bit chewy, but that is expected from Kalbi. Now all the meals came with 2 large scoops of white rice. A small side of green salad comes with a sweet creamy dressing. The mac salad is slightly creamy, but pretty peppery . I would have given 5 stars, but due to the difficulty of placing the order knocked them down a star. The food itself is 4.5 stars.

Yelp
A great hawaiian location with very unique foods! - food recs - We got the Appetizer Platter, Coconut Shrimp, and Chicken Teriyaki. The appetizer platter was so fun because it's a great way to try all of the different foods. I was a HUGE fan of the chicken and the kimchi fries on the platter. The chicken was was crispy and coated in honey - I'll definitely be getting those next time that I go. The kimchi fries were great too because I love kimchi and I love fries, so putting them together is great. The only thing is that I think the menu said that it came with meat on the fries too, but I didn't see it. The Coconut Shrimp tasted great as well. So crispy and not greasy at all- it actually was kind of refreshing because of the coconut taste. The only thing was that the portion was a bit small, so you'll prob need to order something else on top of it. The Chicken Teriyaki was good as well, but I think that the appetizer platter and coconut shrimp outshine it! Neither the Coconut Shrimp nor the Chicken Teriyaki comes with sides when you order in person at the restaurant. So, if you want rice or mac and cheese, it'll be an extra charge. I wish that it was more clearly expressed because we were expecting one side to come with it. That's the only reason for the 4 instead of 5 stars. (However, if you order through somewhere like Doordash, it will come with sides. I think that this difference is a bit strange in my opinion.) - wait time - Our party of 3 was seated right away around 7pm on a Saturday night! - service - The waitress was so kind and made sure that we were always set. - atmosphere - I really loved the atmosphere- they have really interesting decorations (they have tiger paintings on one side of the wall and empty wine baskets lining the other side of the wall). The walls are painted black so it gives a kind of mysterious, bar-like vibe. I also love the architecture of the outside- there's a big window in front where you can also sit and look outside.

Yelp
was confused walking in because there was a small sign indicating Unco Frank's but the inside was set up like a bar. we had to ask to make sure we were in the right place. it felt weird because it seems like people mostly go here for the wine bar and we were the only people getting food. after getting seated and ordering, the food came out fairly quickly. the mochiko chicken was crispy but needed a little more sauce as some parts of the chicken were still dry. the mac salad was my favorite, had similar taste to local style. overall, i would order from here again but just for togo as the ambience doesn't really match.

Will D.

Yelp
Been looking for a good Hawaiian restaurant in SF and this is it. The Mochiko chicken is a must try. Note - the dine in and takeout menus are different

Yelp
It's decent. I have nothing bad to say. But it wasn't anything special. I think I need to try other things on their menu to really say if I'd order again.

Yelp
I heard of Uncle Frank's by word of mouth so far and received a small flyer for their new Hawaiian joint on Clement inside High Treason. Their website showcases mouth watering meals and having came back from Maui not long ago, Im definitely craving Hawaiian food! Unfortunately their online link doesn't work for ordering as well as their hours aren't accurate. For example, yesterday was Tuesday and only shows they are opened for lunch from 11-3pm. I submitted a contact form to ask for ordering dinner on Wed 3/16 and someone texted me, (I assume the owner) that they are opened today at 4pm. I asked how do I order? He sent me a link to order from hightreasonsf.com. I ordered the Mochiko Chicken Plate which comes with 5 large pieces of marinated fried chicken with mochiko flour and sesame sauce. The meal also comes with white rice, mac salad and side salad. Lots of food for $20 and I was definitely stuffed. Every bite was delicious. I am excited for this place and think it has so much potential if it can work out a few small kinks. Looking forward to trying their coconut shrimp plate and fish sandos. The menu is small but love the food so far!

Karen L.

Yelp
The Hawaiian food here is the best I've ever had! I came here for lunch and ordered the Kalbi and it was fatty and delicious. It came with a side salad, mac salad, and rice. If I lived in the neighborhood, I would be a regular.

Yelp
Cute wine bar called High Treason with their collab with Unco Franks. Came here before a comedy show. Started off with Riesling Wine it was really good. The place is nice with high ceilings, cool wall decor. Ordered the spam fries and sliders. I didn't expect to have so much fries. They were both very good.

Yelp
A very unassuming pop-up restaurant located inside a wine/beer shop. What I loved: The cozy intimate vibes. The music. The PuPu Platter dish (especially the mochiko chicken). The unique beers that they offer. My other thoughts: It would've been nice if there were more beer on tap. The fried rice dish was decent. I thought the dish was served with spam, but it was actually Portuguese sausage. I think the dish would've been amazing if the bits and pieces of sausages were pan-fried just a liiiiiittle bit longer, and if the rice had a liiiiiittle bit more seasoning.

Yelp
I follow Fleetwood, a cute boutique store, on Instagram, and they kept showcasing food from Unco Frank's on their stories. I had to go to the Richmond District one weekend, and so I took this as an opportunity to check them out. I believe they're currently a pop up, using the kitchen and space at High Treason bar. So it's not so Hawaiian themed in the decor, but the food speaks for itself. It's so delicious! So far I've had the fried rice and the mochiko chicken plate. The fried rice comes with lots of flavor with the furikake seasoning, Portuguese sausage, and fried eggs. I ate the whole thing, even though I was full half way through. This dish was so comforting, especially on a cold day. I recently visited with a friend, and I ordered the mochiko chicken. I like that it wasn't heavily breaded. You still get that chewy mochiko feel without having it be too chewy. It came with a slightly sweet, slightly savory sauce. The mac salad was peppery, which I thought was a good taste contrast to the chicken. And the salad made me feel healthy lol. They do have cocktails available, as well as the canned Hawaiian sodas. It can be cold inside, so bundle up. Also, only a few tables are open, and the rest of the seating is either bar, or in front of the restaurant where the speaker is, which plays really good music btw. So even though you see chairs stacked on the tables, they are open. The menu is small, but like I said, it could be a pop up. I want to come back to try their fish sandos and coconut shrimp plate.

Yelp
Mochiko Chicken: Nice crunchy outside into a juicy and tender chicken inside. Flavoring is delicious as well. Sweet at first with a very very mild hint of spice afterwards. Chicken was just perfect. Macaroni salad was great. Not overly powered by mayo/sauce and with some added pepper just gave it that missing ingredient that I will now add to any Mac salad! Salad was a nice refresher add as well. Normally don't see it in Hawaiian rice plates here in the city. Not sure if its just having another option besides chicken katsu plates but definitely the best Hawaiian spot I've had in the city. It is more on the pricy side however but well worth it for an above average Hawaiian experience. I will be back for them coconut shrimps!

Yelp
Came here at night with my friends for dinner. You seat yourself and scan the QR code on the table to see the menu. This place is more bar-vibe than restaurant vibe at night. Staff is nice and will take your order. Fries are bomb and delicious! Portion is sizeable and we had to get a to go box. Kalbi was juicy and tender and goes well with the white rice. Next favorite was coco shrimp; the sauce is unique and flavorful. Least favorite was edamame - not sure about the cheese and edamame combo. It was good, but not my pallete.

Yelp
I've been told this place is a pop up using High Treason's kitchen. Everything on the menu looked delicious and I wanted to try it all if I could. We ordered the mochiko chicken, fries, and fried rice. My favorite was the mochiko chicken - great flavor and texture! The fried rice wasn't anything spectacular to me but still good none the less. And of course you can never go wrong with fries, it was also a pretty big serving of fries. We also got a glass of wine from the very knowledgable sommelier there. I'd love to go back and try other things from the menu!

Yelp
Fantastic spot for Hawaiian food in an unsuspecting location. We shared the kalbi, mochiko chicken, and furikake fries. Kalbi: Good amount of meat and fat to keep each bite tender. The dish had a nice char to it as well. Mochiko Chicken: The true star of the shoe! Boneless, tender, and packed with flavor! The chicken is covered in a sweet savory sauce and there is a side sesame citrus sauce that helped cut through the fattiness. Furikake Fries: Think garlic fries and furikake? Perfectly crispy and each fries had a good amount of flavor. Came with a nice lemon aioli for some contrast. Their dinner entrees don't include rice or mac salad so make sure to add it if you are interested!

Yelp
this place is,, interesting..? imma give 'em at 3.5 if i could, cus this place is a hit or miss for me. hawaiian is hard to come by and unco franks was always on my hit list. so i've tried their stuff on multiple occasions and i have some thoughts. service is ok ! i usually order online+pickup and the wait time is around 20-30 mins which is on the longer side but that's fine since i try to time it right. pickup was seamless but the food is where it's a hit or miss. -mochiko chicken i'm not sure if it's just me or that order, but the mochiko chicken was so dry. their seasoning is good! but again the chicken being dry kinda ruined the dish. -coconut shrimp it's really salty with or without the sauce it comes with ! but very crunchy and pairs very nicely with the mac salad and rice. probably my favorite plate with all the rice and salad but the shrimp on its own (or with the very lemony sauce) again. very salty. -fish sandos ok THEir TARTAR IS WEIRD to me and my companion who tried it. it's too sour/bitter and pickle-y and the sweet salty mayo flavor is just nowhere to be found. and the slaw were also a little too salty. my least favorite plate. -furikake fries OK ITS REALLY GOOD. ask for more sauce but the seasoning itself on the fries is so delicious. the sauce definitely help enhances the fries. -mac salad i really love their mac salads. perfectly salty without the mayo overpowering the flavor. their flavor is a balance between mayo and lemon so it's really great. it can get heavy really fast so pace yourself. i still wanna try their fried rice, work fries, kalbi (and maybe pupu platter just to give mochiko chicken another chance) . so we will see. we will see. i'll update y'all.

Yelp
Hawaiian food pop-up inside the High Treason wine bar that serves delicious teriyaki chicken, kalbi plate, and some of the yummiest Mac salad that I have had in a while. Pairs well with some really delicious wines. Friendly and efficient service. 4 stars because we haven't tried everything yet. May update again in the near future.

Yelp
We had Unco Frank's cater our baby shower and he absolutely nailed it. Super easy to communicate with and was really great in the planning process, contacting our venue directly for some details. He threw down, food was bomb and everyone loved the whole menu. We had the Mochiko chicken, Kalua pork, Mac salad, and salad with sesame dressing, and everything was delicious. Super excited to work with him again for future events!

Yelp
Nicer ambiance than I was expecting. Definitely a dresssier/fancier dinner and drinks spot. Usually with Hawaiian food I expect just take out/fast food style. Our server was so attentive and even allowed us a couples samples of wine before we settled on a bottle. He checked on us very often to make sure we were doing fine and even engaged in some conversations with us- funny guy. The food... I actually quite enjoyed it. Everything was made fresh and those fish sliders were probabaly my favorite! Fish is so crispy and went well with whatever slaw they had with it. Id also recommend the mochiko chicken cause that was sooo tasty. I wanna be back again for specifically those sliders and chicken, if I'm craving Hawaiian food in a fancier setting.

Yelp
Ever wish you had delicious Hawaiian cuisine that was more upscale and scrumptious? Then try Unco Frank's. This place is what you would get if you took L and L BBQ and let a Michelin star chef redo the menu. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
I bet you if I asked you guys where I should eat in Honolulu, you guys will give me a great list that would include: Side St. Inn, Helenas, Koko Head Cafe, Senia..., In Maui: Tin Roof, Tasty Crust, Mamas Fish House.... Ok. Let's bring it a little bit closer to home here in the Bay Area. Where can I go for some Hawaiian food???? No to L&L and Hawaiian Drive Inn! Someplace I can go to on a weekly basis and not Liholiho Yacht Club? Well, I just had this "da plate" from the pop-up: Unco Frank's and it "broke da mouth"! https://www.facebook.com/uncofranks/ DM @uncofranks to preorder

Yelp
Ordered the grilled Teri chicken, mochiko chicken, grilled kalbi, coconut shrimp, mini fish sandos, auntie rob's fried rice, and Mac salad for takeout. The grilled Teri chicken was tender. The Mochiko chicken was crispy. The grilled kalbi had a good flavor but didn't have much meat. The coconut shrimp was crispy. I tasted the sweetness of the coconut chips encrusted on the outside of the shrimp. The mini fish sandos were okay-not much flavor. The fries were crispy and krinkle cut which reminded me of the fries you get in a school lunch. The fried rice was okay. It was greasy. What gave it most of the flavor was the sausage. The Mac salad was peppery. Overall, the food was okay. There was a lot of rice and Mac salad so you don't have to order the fried rice or side of Mac salad.

Yelp
I've walked by several times and have been meaning to try their food. I saw that they had mochiko chicken on their menu so I thought I would give it a try. Mochiko chicken seems to be a popular menu trend in CA lately. The meal comes with chicken, white rice with a sprinkle of furikake, a cup of macaroni salad and a small side of greens. I was glad to see that they didn't pour a lot of sweet sauce over the chicken. It had a slight spicy taste which was enough to keep your mouth entertained. The pieces of chicken were a perfect size as most places give you these small pieces that are a bit bigger than a popcorn. This preparation allows you to also taste the chicken versus the batter. There was something still missing from this recipe that is different from how I make it however this is still tasty and I would order it again if I'm craving fried chicken :-) I'll return back to try their other Hawaiian menu items. Give it a try.

Yelp
Had it delivered-Teriyaki chicken hit the spot-mac salad and rice were delicious and exactly the taste I craved. No frills, nothing blew me away but it was solid comfort food at a fair price and ordering was a breeze.

Yelp
Sorta hidden and a gem so it's a hidden gem? I thought this was a restaurant upstairs but it's the menu they serve at the wine bar. Food pretty good but the best part about this place is the beer selection. I've never had some of the ones they serve and I can only assume they rotate them often. Good food, good beer, can't ask for more!
