"Chamo is a family-owned restaurant that specializes in Venezuelan comfort foods like empanadas, tequeños, and soft, freshly griddled arepas with over a dozen fillings to choose from. A few arepas here easily make a meal, so prioritize the one inspired by Venezuela’s national dish, pabellón criollo, stuffed with black beans, fried plantains, white cheese, and a choice of shredded chicken or beef. We also love the carne mechada arepa, filled with a big amount of shredded beef stewed in a savory tomato-based sauce that’s worth potentially ruining a white t-shirt." - brant cox, sylvio martins, andrew ryce

"This family-owned Pasadena restaurant specializes in Venezuelan comfort foods like empanadas, tequeños, and, of course, soft arepas with over a dozen fillings to choose from. Here you can try Venezuela’s national dish, pabellón criollo, in the form of an arepa, which is a very tasty and far more portable alternative to the usual rice and beans plate. The freshly grilled dough gets stuffed with black beans, fried plantain, your choice of shredded chicken or beef, and a big handful of shredded white cheese that softly melts as it mingles with all the warm fillings. We also love the carne mechada arepa that comes with a big serving of shredded beef cooked in a savory tomato-based sauce that’s worth potentially ruining a white t-shirt for." - sylvio martins

We also love the carne mechada arepa that comes with a big serving of shredded beef cooked in a savory tomato-based sauce that’s worth potentially ruining a white t-shirt for. Food Rundown Pabellon Arepa Besides somehow stuffing every major food group (rice, beans, and shredded meat) into one fluffy masa pocket, the stewed beef filling comes in a tasty tomato-onion sauce that pairs well with the plantains and shredded white cheese. The whole thing is sweet, savory, creamy, and probably best enjoyed sitting down rather than on the go – at least for your shirt’s sake. Reina Arepa A creamy chicken salad, when done right, just hits different, and this arepa certainly delivers. The filling is a mayo, avocado, and cilantro mixture that gets folded into tender shredded chicken. Not only is it tangy and decadent, but it has a peppery cilantro flavor that balances out the generous amount of mayo. Carne Mechada Empanada This shredded beef and tomato sauce filling is warm and super saucy without just being a wet blob of pulled meat. The fried corn empanada itself is golden brown and crispy on the outside, but still maintains its softness on the inside, which we’re big fans of. Just know these can definitely be on the oilier side, so prepare accordingly. Cachapa Cachapa is a must-try item at Chamo’s–a simple dish that reminds us of how beautiful corn and cheese are as a couple. These thick corn pancakes are naturally sweet, nicely charred on a griddle, and have just enough bend to fold over a wedge of queso de mano, which is super mild and melts wonderfully like fresh mozzarella." - Sylvio Martins

"Chamo Venezuelan Cuisine knows a thing or two about masa and makes some of the city’s best South American comfort foods like warm arepas and, of course, empanadas. The corn-based empanadas are not the hand pies you find elsewhere, but instead come in the size of a small calzone. The Carne Mechada empanada comes loaded with succulent shredded beef cooked in a “red sauce” that’s very reminiscent of the classic tomato, onion, and bell pepper sofrito." - Sylvio Martins

We really enjoyed our meal here. The atmosphere is bright and fun, the people working there were all friendly and welcoming, and the food is great. We had the fried yucca (with some great sauces), a chicken empanada, and an arepa. The chicken in the empanada has such great flavor. The arepa was much lighter and less greasy than some we've had in the past (in a good way) but not to say it wasn't huge and absolutely filling. We got the one with the fried pork, avocado and tomato and it was absolutely smothered in garlic sauce, which we loved.

This place is fantastic. The chicha alone makes it worth coming here. Probably one of the best chicha drinks I've had in my life. I highly recommend the tequeños, empanadas and their pabellón criollo. There's street parking in the area. The decor is fantastic too and the staff is nice and friendly. The food does take a bit to come out but it comes out fresh and it's worth the wait. The prices are reasonable for what it is, and the fried plantains in the pabellón were cooked to perfection.

Very quaint restaurant! Beautiful, vibrant colors and decor. The food was tasty, and fresh. Venezuelan food has a unique overall selection; with some shared elements with other central/South American cuisines. The staff here is very nice, and attentive. Food was freshly made, and very fast. Each dish had a great taste profile. There is a parking lot for customers south of the restaurant/street front. Plenty of spot there! The chicken breast dish was tasty, and simple (in a good way!). The yucca fries were different and nice! Overall everyone enjoyed their dishes! I would not say the fusible has a very strong/rich taste (like Thai/Indian food might…but it is still nice!). Plenty of seating indoors, and a few outdoor spots under a covered tarp. Wishing this place well!

If you haven't been here, then come. Most definitely worth it. Edit: ordered today 7/14/24 and they got my to-go order wrong. Hope they can refund me since I ordered 4 pabellones.. but only had beef and nothing else

First time here and will not be the last. Everything was made fresh to order. I have never had food like this being and aussie and I am so glad I came. Will be brining aussie family here when they arrive. The restaurant itself is beautifully clean and well presented. It is a small business and it shows in the way they deal with their customers. Very friendly helpful. Excited to also enjoy it again with my leftovers!!! Go! You will not regret it

We chose this Venezuelan restaurant for his high rate. We didn’t feel it was amazing. Food was definitely fresh and made upon order. They offer some vegan/vegetarian options. Arepas don’t have much flavors even though they gave us some sauces. We tried two kinds. Drinks are not homemade but with powder. The lady was not great because my friend talked to her in Spanish and answered her in English. I think it was not respectful at all. Locals eat there as we could have seen. Definitely not our place but maybe yours. Price is a bit high for the food and drinks served.

Unbelievable!!! Little hole in the wall without the dust, but rather bright and chill atmosphere. Reminds me of my mom's house growing up: Traditional, vibrant, full if life and love!!! First time having Venezuelan cuisine and it won't be the last!!! 5/5 great experience!
