The 22 Best Restaurants & Bars In Bernal Heights - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"This bottle shop is so small that it feels like a basement cellar—and one that sells mostly Italian wines. It also doubles as a bar and is one of our favorite spots in the neighborhood to go for quick dates or any time we want to drink a glass of wine alone at the counter overlooking the street. Order a charcuterie or cheese board and don't look back. " - Lani Conway, Will Kamensky, Julia Chen 1, Ricky Rodriguez

"This quaint neighborhood enoteca in Bernal Heights has an tightly curated list of small production wines and a focus on obscure native grape varieties. It also serves exceptional bar bites like grilled mushrooms topped with burrata, personal pie pizzette, artisanal Italian cheeses like truffle-flecked aged sheep’s milk or triple cream robiola, and top-notch Italian affettati (cured meats). The best deal happens on Sunday evenings when all bottles are half-price." - Coral Sisk

Google
I wanted to like this place. Cute atmosphere, good wine. Unfortunately the food was very disappointing. $18 for gnocchi of the day, with olives and a tomato sauce that tasted like it came straight out of a can. The pizzetta prosciutto was also really bland and on a thin, processed bread. Two entrees and two glasses of wine, plus tax + tip = $80+. Not worth it.

Google
Every time. The ingredients are always fresh, wine recommendations broad and high end, service is kind and attentive, ambiance is casual and classy. Perfect for long layovers at SFO or casual drop ins. Truly a favorite of mine for years. So good, yet small, that I almost don't want to honestly rate and share but such incredible Italian that they deserve the credit.

Google
Nice little wine bar with good food and live music a few nights a month

Google
Jesse was incredibly knowledgeable about wine and suggested a great Italian red wine that was perfect. Definitely a great place to sit on a comfortable parklet with my dog and people watch with a good glass of wine.

Meg Beckley

Google
One of my favorite places to relax and grab a glass of wine. Try the lasagna! ... but honestly I've enjoyed it all.

Google
Wine, food, and service were all fantastic. Really nice relaxing atmosphere. Found parking easily and didn’t need a reservation.

Google
We really loved this place! Good wine and food and fair prices. Andres was so nice and sweet!!! Definitely one of our favorite wine bars in the city.

Google
Cramped dining area but the neighborhood is full of similarly small restaurants. Service was excellent as was the wine list. Small plates are well made (vegan pizza was A+++). Excellent red sparkling wine!

Yelp
Wish I came here sooner. This place is nice and cozy. While it is a small space, you can come in with a small group or go solo. The staff are friendly and nice and give good suggestions when asked. I love the food-small plates that can be shared. Everything from the cheese plates, lasagna, and arugala salad are amazing. Come in for a cozy glass of wine and eat till your heart's content. A nic little gem in the Bernal neighborhood.

Yelp
Great spot for wine, antipasto and charcuterie. Had their entrees and pastas years ago which I remember being solid, but haven't tried them recently. Wine selection is excellent and reasonably priced. The server gave us a few great suggestions. It has a charming parklet which is lovely on a warmer evening or a happy-hour glass of wine. We went on a Friday night when they had a DJ spinning, which made it extra lively and inviting.

Yelp
Nice ambience, friendly people, small and cozy quarter, delicious wine and cheese offerings. We came in on a cold rainy night for a double date and enjoyed it so much!

Yelp
One evening I was trying to go the Thai restaurant next door and the line was long so we decided to grab a glass of wine next door. Well nothing was a better idea! This cute bar has great wines (I'm Italian so love some good Italian selection) and great salads, cheese, polenta... well as you could have guessed, we totally skipped the Thai place and stayed and enjoyed it here!

Yelp
This is always a nice place for happy hours and small bites. The wine is good, the service fine but the space itself is not terribly welcoming, feels more like a storage room than wine bar. Regardless, it's a nice happy hour and the server gives good recommendations.

Yelp
My last experience here killed all desire to spend any money at this place despite living just a couple blocks away. a desperate moment of hunger and a sudden urge to give this place another chance after 3 years. But quickly discovered it was a huge mistake to try. Once again encountered that jerk of a server from a few years ago. I think his name is Noah. I had nearly forgotten the previous experience...clearly he had been harboring hatred all along. an honest review left an impression on this guy so deep that he's been waiting for the day he could finally retaliate. He was practically shaking when he saw me. when I tried to ask to be seated...he told my friend and I that I was 86'd for a lifetime because he felt I was abominable (kinda like the snowman?) the last time around. Hey Noah...get a clue...there are a ton of other restaurants here on Bernal and in the Mission that wouldn't mind taking my money. I am shocked that after these many years, my experience of you and the honest review I gave, continues to haunt you till this day. I'm glad my words were heard. Wish you had fixed the attitude instead. I feel sad for you...that you've been holding on to these emotions for so long. It makes me wonder what must be going through your head every time you see me walking by. This server must be related to the owner because despite many terrible reviews about his attitude, he continues to work there. Then again where else would he go? this ugly attitude is not isolated and seems to me, ethnically targeted.

Yelp
This little gem is located in Bernal Heights. This neighborhood is full of some many wonderful restaurants and small cozy bars. I have only been here for wine and cheese and have dined in. I really want to come back because the staff has been nothing but wonderful and the food last time had the most wonderful aroma. We had two full bottles, one was a a Rosé and one was a distilled one. Any cheese charcuterie board you do is amazing. They always add extra bread and that is a plus just ask for more. Can't wait to be back, thank you again for making this experience awesome for myself and my friends.

Yelp
Such a nice gem with so many wine selections. We got a bottle of the white wine which was really good! We also got some burrata along with it which was good quality and delicious. The ambience is great as well, nice quaint vibes. The service was a little slow but we didn't mind it as we were in no rush. Could see ourselves being regulars here

Yelp
One of our neighborhood favorites. Great selection of wine. Appetizers are amazing. Plus, the service is excellent. Andres remembers our "usuals."

Yelp
Best eggplant parmesan in the city and that is saying a lot. Trust me, I've tried them all and Vino Rosso's is the best.

Yelp
Love to have a few drinks here. Beautiful parklet on a great street. Awesome selection of wines. Staff is very helpful and courteous. Take a moment, take a seat and savor the moment with a nice glass of vino

Yelp
Food is good and well priced for individual servings. Service is fine and nice outdoor seating. Happy hour brings the wine prices down to earth.

Yelp
Came in here with high hopes for wine and menu. Customer service was horrible. Wish I enjoyed the wine and food but that was also a disappointment. Do not recommend coming here!!

Yelp
Small cozy intimate wine bar hidden in one of the most underrated parts of San Francisco. They have a great selection of wines and pairings! The staff is friendly and this is a great place to hang out without breaking a bank!

Yelp
I 100% will not be coming back to this restaurant. I actually just went tonight and my server was the brother of the owner. After paying with card, he immediately asked if our plan was to give a tip in cash to which my friend responded yes. After he took the cash tip, he said "Please don't come back, for the amount the bill was, your tip is insulting." First of all, the tip was not small, however, my friend felt so bad that she gave him more cash, which we now regret because that was so rude, especially coming from the brother of the owner. If anyone deserved the tip, it should've been the cook who did all the work. I understand that servers rely on tips, however, this is no way to speak to your customers. If I could give this place 0 stars I would solely because of their customer service.

Yelp
My favorite little wine bar to live by - great selection of wines, as well as delicious assortment of meats and cheeses. If you're more in the mood for a real meal, they also have great dishes and tapas to share. The pastas are particularly good. I love the little outdoor area (for daytime and warm evenings) as well as the more romantic inside ambiance. Also enjoy the Sunday deals. Looking forward to covid-19 ending so we can get back to this place!

Yelp
My favorite Italian in SF. Wine selection is quite special -especially love those deep, complex reds, mmm... Food is top notch, spring pea ravioli, mushroom gnocchi, make my eyes roll back. Quaint, easy atmosphere, convenient location, and adorable staff make it perfection.

Yelp
UPDATE: I recently had a baby and was excited to learn about Vino Rosso's "Wine & Whiner Wednesday" baby friendly happy hour! I went yesterday and had a great time. It was lovely to meet other new parents, and the service was great. I posted about this happy hour on a new moms group on Facebook, and there's a lot of interest! I'm hoping to make this a weekly outing. ORIGINAL REVIEW We popped in for a drink and snack on a Monday night and loved this spot! Good food and wine, good service, and a lovely setting. I had a glass of the Balletto Chardonnay, which I liked, and my husband had a glass of the Carmignana, which he enjoyed. We shared a three salumi plate with bresaola, salami, and coppa - it was delicious! The service was friendly and reasonably fast. We loved the setting - it's cozy, classy, modern, and elegant. Great spot - we recently moved to the neighborhood, and will definitely be back!

Yelp
The men who served me were exceptional. The food was fantastic and i will definitely be back! The gnocchi was so delicious I wish I would have ordered two plates of it. Will definitely be back if I'm ever in SF again!

Yelp
We walked into a bright dining room with high ceilings. Bottles of wine were proudly displayed on the walls. We were greeted promptly and seated in the mostly empty room. We redeemed the free Prosecco check-in offer--it is my favorite to date at a $8 value and a delicious way to start to our evening. The portions are tapas sized--perfect for a selection shared family style. We ordered prosciutto wrapped artichoke hearts with goat cheese--our favorite item on the menu. There was something synergistic about the smoky, salty, creamy tanginess that delighted the palette and enhanced the wine we quaffed. Next up were the Lasagne and Eggplant Parmagiana. The Lasagna noodles were al dente--awesome, but there was no ricotta cheese within, and the sauce was on the thin side. Eggplant parmagiana had an ooey gooey cheese cap. Good, but not our favorite. We were still a bit hungry, so we added an order of crab cakes. Full of real crab and served crispy crumbed outside and fluffy moist inside, they were delicious if a bit pricey. In all, a very chillax place to hang out and nosh.

Yelp
They claim they close at 10 pm. Came at 9:30 and 9:15 within a few weeks and got turned around while they had people eating and drinking inside. Unacceptable. Change your hours maybe

Yelp
This review was about our experience tonight especially with our waiter named Noah. We used to come to Vinorosso regularly with and without kids and this was our first time since the pandemic on a date night. The summation - this was the single worst experience we have had an a restaurant or bar in 12 years in San Francisco and I WILL NEVER BE GOING BACK TO VINOROSSO. We got seated. I asked about a few of the wines we were considering ordering. Noah told me the ones we were considering were tanic, acidic, horrible to drink, and left all customers angry. Weird comments on a wine they were serving... We ordered some others along with a 3 cheese platter. We received some old, stale, super dry poorly cut bread along with the cheese. My wife made a comment mentioning the dryness of the bread and this is where everything turned sour. Noah basically got into an argument with us for binging this up and the service got even worse from there. He kept bringing up the bread complaint the rest of the night arguing with us about why we said something as paying customers. He did bring a replacement that was much better. Vinorosso website mentions 10 PM closure as do the signs on the frontdoor. Noah started closing everything at 9PM. Without asking, he brought me a bill while I was just starting to drink a beer. Considering the horrendous service we had so far, I considered not even tipping but tipped a conventional 14-15% on 2 glasses of wine, a beer, and cheese with stale bread. 10 minutes later at 930PM and half my beer left, Noah says we have to leave and are being kicked out. I asked why and he said its because I only tipped 13%. Then he said his dad is sick so we had to leave so he could help him??? Are you kidding me???? WOW! What a horrendous experience from start to finish. We live in Bernal and are Cortland regulars. We will never be going back to Vinorosso again. While our experience is mostly reflective of the service we received today from Noah, if this is the way this place operates, I would encourage everyone to avoid this place like the plague until they learn even the most simple basics of customer service. Horrendous!

Yelp
DO NOT GO. My husband and I went for a rare date night from our 3 kids here on a Monday evening. We used to go here when they first opened and before the pandemic and remember the lovely and warm welcome we got from the owners who, like us, had small children. But tonight was terrible solely because of the server, who said his name is Noah. We ordered 2 glasses of wine and a 3-cheese plate. When we asked for wine recommendations, he talked crap about one of the wines which gave us pause and made us wonder why a server would say that a wine was so tanic that it made you angry when theyre selling the wine. Why say a wine is terrible if it's on the list? Then, the bread came out looking a bit awkward and he explained it away that it probably looks crumbly like that b/c he popped it in the oven. After a few trials with the cheese, it felt like the bread was a bit too crumbly and way too dry for the cheeses that we ordered, so I thought I'd casually mention it and ask for crackers instead. Well, that was a mistake. As soon as I mentioned it, Noah's face dropped and he looked visibly annoyed with me. His tone changed and he rolled his eyes and he said he'd bring some crackers and when he couldnt find them, he brought some bread that didn't go in the oven, which worked fine. But, when he brought it over, there was still a tone and I tried to overcompensate with saying it's ok and it's all good, thinking maybe he baked the bread himself and I offended him. But, I'm the customer--why am.I wrong for telling him the bread is falling apart and not holding this expensive cheese that we are paying for? He walked away saying, with an attitude, that he just wants people to have a good time and I said I'm having a great time and I'm sorry that I offended him so much about the bread. He said he wasn't offended and stomped away, with annoyance all over his face. It was all very confusing and I regretted saying anything about the bread b/c clearly it ruined the rest of the night for us. We finished our wine and since we still had over 45 mins before they closed at 10pm, we ordered a beer to share so we could enjoy the little time left of our date night. While still not finished with our beer or cheese, he asked abruptly, "you want anything else to drink?" We said no thank you and he came back holding the credit card machine and just spat out the total number to us--not even a sentence--just a number barked at us. We didn't ask for the bill and it would have been nice to see the charges. My husband paid the bill and when the tip screen came on, Noah suddenly started talking to me, still looking annoyed, about how he wasn't offended about the bread and I told him it was all good, still sensing his attitude and the awkwardness of this whole bread situation. Then we continued to drink our beer and at closer to 9:30pm, over thirty minutes before they closed, he came out from the back and yelled at us and said "ok it's time for you to go". WTF happened?! Our beer wasn't finished. Yes, the place was empty, but we are literally still drinking and it's not close to closing time. My husband, confused, asked "Are you kicking us out?" And Noah said "Yes, I am. It's time for you to leave" and then he went on a rant about the tip!!!!!! He was pissed about the tip we left and came back and KICKED US OUT b/c of it. WTF!!!! He went on a rant about how we're taking too long when the place is closed (it wasn't). So, literally, we paid the bill and he went to the back, saw our bill, came back out and yelled at us and kicked us out. We asked him his name at that point, and he was growing angrier and told us it's Noah and then we told him how this is ridiculous that we're not done with our beer and he's kicking us out before they close and he said that it was ridiculous that we were not tipping him highly. We were SHOCKED. He challenged us with an angry voice to talk to the owners. From the beginning, this server was off. It was such a confusing evening. We were disrespected by this server. We most definitely will NEVER return here and will make sure that our large community of Bernal friends and family know how poor customer service truly is. I'm speechless. If you dig into Yelp reviews, this isn't the first time it's been mentioned. Why is he still employed? Why hasn't there been any action taken from the owners? I emailed and left a voicemail too. No response days later. Will update if they respond.

Yelp
This space has been such a beautiful respite for me. I was looking for a place with wifi and wine and discovered this place this summer. The service is lovely and warm. I did a quick stopover my first time and enjoyed a glass of wine and took a delicious lasagna to go. This time, I was able to stay longer! I ordered a lovely glass of Pinot (which ended up with two glasses), and got two cheeses and a salumi with recommendations from one of the hosts. I got work done and joined an online workshop! I finished all of my order and can't wait to go again - solo and with others! Thank you for the lovely experiences VinoRosso team You are so appreciated

Yelp
The wine is good and the ambiance is better. I love the outdoor seating setup and the lights they have up. I really like just chatting with a friend over some wine. The service is also really nice! The waiter was really helpful with recommendations. A great neighborhood find!

Yelp
Vino Rosso is a much loved wine bar in our Bernal community. We have been there countless times since they opened, and have always enjoyed the service, ambience, small plates, and wonderful selection of wine. We particularly appreciate the knowledgeable, kind and honest advice of the severs when we are making a wine selection. We have often changed our first choice based on their feedback. We look forward to our next visit.

Yelp
We've been regulars since they first opened. Never had a single bad experience. The staff (Jesse, Andres, Noah) has been consistently friendly and professional. The wine selection is outstanding and the small plates are great.

Yelp
I come to VinoRosso at least once a week - sometimes with my kids, sometimes with my husband or friends and it's always a wonderful experience. The staff is kind, knowledgeable, and attentive. Their wines are great and we always order the salumi and cheese plate. VinoRosso is such a great neighborhood spot though I would be a regular too even if I didn't live in Bernal!

Yelp
I wanted to treat my friend to a nice bday dinner and since I know the owner, we decided on this place. I'm a working mom of a toddler and had saved up for this dinner. When the server (brother of the owner) came up and ran my card, he asked if I was leaving cash for tip since he didn't see me adding it. I said yes. I only brought a certain amount of cash because I didn't think it would be as expensive, however, it was still a little more than 10% of the bill. As we were leaving he goes "don't ever come back, this tip is insulting." I decided to give him a little more bc I live nearby and his sister who is the owner has been nothing but nice to me and my son when she sees me. But trust me, I won't be going back and that goes for the other two places they own (Vega Pizza and Bernal Star) as well. This is not ok, they don't know people's financial situation. I wonder if he would be saying the same if I were a man.

We came here spontaneously on a Saturday night and couldn't have been happier. Terrific service, incredible food. We will be back!!!

Yelp
Tasty. I'm a bit behind in my reviews, so I am trying to catch up and hit 500! These pictures are bringing back that memory of visiting VinoRosso in Bernal Heights. I purchased a restaurant.com gift certificate because I wanted to check out a few new local spots and got the chance to visit this little spot. My friend Rosy and I went for an early dinner. We both love Green Castelvetrano Olives and ordered glasses of Persecco. Everything sounded great, but we went with two main courses instead of appetizers or salads to start. We both picked two items to split. The Involtini di pollo con prosciutto e mozzarella (stuffed chicken breast) was very good, a large dinner sized portion served with mixed greens with a light dressing. The Capesante alla griglia (scallops wrapped in pancetta w/ leek & shallot puree) was the BEST. So savory, the combination of the scallop's texture with the leek puree and the pancetta for flavor. I would order this again and maybe as an appetizer for the table. Very good, cute little restaurant / wine bar. The food was excellent, another great restaurant.com find.

Yelp
Stopped in on a whim. Ambience is pretty good. Prices for the portion size definitely not worth it. $15 for a small personal size pizza -- the size of what you'd get from the personal pies in the grocery store frozen section. Lasagna was also $15 and about 6 big bites. For a wine bar, would have also expected nice stemware but wine was served in pretty thick glasses. Overall overpriced and just okay. Would not come back for any food. Perhaps would come back for a glass of wine while waiting to eat nearby.

Yelp
Humbleness is a virtue. Isn't it? Well...it should be, anyway. And, there's elegance in simplicity. That one is fact. VinoRosso is both humble & simple. Walking in, I was surprised. Surprised at how small it is. Surprised at how bare bones it is. It is warm & positive. It's also charming, from the white lights strewn on the trees out front, to the candles on the tables. I just wasn't aware of how positively rustic it is. I took this theme to the top by sitting at the tiny, private, table in the back "room." I'm using quotes w "room" because it isn't actually a room. It's actually a tiny space w a closet, that you have to walk through to get to an equally tiny hall that leads to the restroom. That description perhaps doesn't convey the best picture; I should have taken one. Let me just say, that if my life suddenly turned into a scene from The Godfather, or Goodfellas, or Donnie Brasco, in that I had to have a "meeting" over lunch or dinner, I would want to have that meeting here at this table. There's only room for 2. The whole thing feels so clandestine. The clean canvas aspect of the space is the perfect juxtaposition for the food that is served here. Any excitement you're not getting from the aesthetic is made up for in spades by the food that they prepare. The lasagna was outstanding. I mean...outstandingly outstanding. The sauce tasted like nonna's actually here stirring it herself, the pasta had just the right bite. And the pizzetta (meant for one) was basically perfect, they (husband & wife team, who were also the servers) nailed the crust. Everything was so authentic, & everything is made in house. Pastas, sauces, pizza dough, even the olive oil...everything. Panna Cotta is my favorite Italian dessert & a bar of measure (among others) that I use to decipher whether or not an Italian restaurant knows what it's doing. VinnoRosso, as tiny & almost painfully unassuming as it is, knows what it's doing. Wine tastings, & you can come in just to buy wine to take home. Great spot. 4 & 1/2 stars.

Yelp
Whoa. Thought I'd give this place another chance, so went in to pick up my togo order, and just got berated by the owner!?! He showed me on his ipad how he was stalking me online (creepy in any right, but how did he know it was me ordering over the phone??) and he said he wouldn't expect an Ayn Rand lover to be against monopolies. He knew WAY too much about me. He accused me of eating half my beet salad before taking the picture I uploaded to yelp (nope not true). While I do appreciate an owner giving his kitchen staff the benefit of the doubt, especially considering I know a few of his staff and they don't think highly of him, nope sorry dude, that's how they sent that dish out, I got no reason to really lie about that... He continued to berate me in front of his customers, and I finally had to ask if he was ok, did he have a rough day??? He said "What does it seem like?" I laughed him off, paid for my food, and left. Poor dude, but man, don't let your shitty day roll this downhill! Food review, since you asked for it buddy: burrata was nearly tasteless, a shame cause the last burrata beet salad was tasty! So seems their quality has gone down?? Meatballs were salty, polenta was dry, and the bread was, probably intentionally, burnt. The food overall isn't bad, just not really worth more than a couple bucks or getting majorly creeped and bitched out over. Dude.....

Yelp
First I want to thank our host. My wife and I had some time to kill before a dinner reservation nearby and stopped in for a glass of wine. It was packed but the young Italian host went out of his way to accommodate us. We made it clear that we just wanted a quick drink and didn't want to disrupt anything. Nevertheless he graciously dismissed our concerns and wrangled us seat. While enjoying our wine we were taken with the buzz and cool vibe. Patrons were having fun and the food looked and smelled delicious. We immediately made a note to return and have a meal. Very small. Very cool. Two highly energetic Italian hosts (seemed like owners). Great wine selections. Can't wait to try the food.

Yelp
Cute interior and nice warm vibe. Good wine selection. I had a polenta dish with tomato sauce & meatballs which was good but a little smaller than I expected, and also surprised it didn't come with pasta. (In hindsight it makes sense since the polenta replaced the pasta, but I was surprised at the time.) Took some time for us to be acknowledged and to get water etc, overall the service could have been better. Overall an ok spot but I wasn't blown away.

Marisa A.

Yelp
My friends and I had were treated very rudely by the waiter. We made a mistake on the tip not realizing we had already been charged an automatic service charge. When I asked for it to be changed he became very defensive and told us we weren't welcomed back. We were all really shocked and of course will not go back. We did receive the credit but were treated very disrespectful by him.

Yelp
If any single man ever happens to stumble upon this review, I have a secret for you about dating. Seriously, it's simple, but it makes all the difference: Plan the date. That's right. Ask a girl out. In person, over the phone, even (if she's more tolerant) by e-mail, but not by text. Set a firm day and time. No, not "let me know when you happen to be in town from your town a few miles away" or even worse, but not unheard of in San Francisco, "let me know when you're in my neighborhood so I don't actually have to drive or figure out alternative transportation." Also, that day and time shouldn't be "today" or "in an hour." Trust me, you'll do a lot better with a little built-up expectation. With a date set, you're ready for the next step. CHOOSE A DAMN PLACE. Don't make her do the research. Make reservations yourself. So maybe you don't buy into all this traditional "real" man stuff, but you do expect her to buy into some of this traditional woman stuff, don't you? You're going to be pretty turned off if she arrives without makeup and wearing overalls. You might even feel a little funny if she began holding doors for you and ordered for you. So drop the fake-feminist excuses and show some manners. If you get that far, you couldn't do much better than Vino Rosso. This is a great place for a date. It's small, warm, cozy, and unhyped. It will make you look like someone who knows quality when he sees it. And it has a great wine list. They even offer a taste portion, which is great for those of us who can barely drink. The sparkling red is amazing. Vino Rosso is mostly a wine bar, but they do serve food. A small menu lets them concentrate on a few very good items. The portions are small (although the salads are generous), which allows for extremely reasonable prices ($11 for homemade lasagna). I enjoyed warm green olives, and an arugula salad with almonds and parmigiano. The vegetable lasagna was just okay. There is something to be said for the non date planner. He does make us appreciate the well-mannered men out there (like my boyfriend). But for the millions of fed-up single women out there, pass this secret on.

Yelp
VinoRosso is a real nice spot to have a little bit of wine, a little bit of food, and a whole lot of dessert - come on, who skimps on dessert? It's especially nice after a long work day when you're in need of a quite place to chill before heading home. When considering the generous pours for their wine tastings coupled with a nice selection of cheeses and homemade desserts, it should be no surprise how often the wife and I frequent this neighborhood place. All that being said, if you should ever find yourself in these neck of the woods, consider stopping by for a quick respite from the hustle and bustle of it all and relax with a glass of Pinot Noir.

Yelp
Italian beer great, and the food & Service no complaints. I would say the place is small, but the location in Bernal Heights is perfect. This place is a Go!

Yelp
I thought that good service, and great food in one location were a thing of the past. You can image how pleased I was to discover both qualities happily co-existing at VinoRosso (one word, capital R). The owners are incredible. Vega & Giuseppe moved here from Rome, lucky for San Francisco! On Wednesdays from 4:30-7pm they have Wine & Whiners Wednesday, I'm sure this will become a new family tradition for many people with children. Apparently there is some hater on here who only gave them one star because of Wine and Whiners Wednesday. If you don't like kids --- don't go early on Wednesdays, duh! Sure, there might be the occasional child there once in a while. If you want to ensure there are no children at all when you attend --- go later. VinoRosso is an adorable and cozy place in a great location in Bernal Heights. If you've never made it to the southern edge of the Mission, now you have a great reason to come with your friends. I'm a huge fan, and I'm sure you will be a convert as well, once you step foot into this wonderful San Francisco establishment. Updated 6/10/07: I'm now officially addicted to the chocolate decadence cake that Vega makes - it is amazing. Yum, yum and yum!!

Yelp
VinoRosso is our neighborhood date night spot. We haven't been able to go in months, but found out they were open just in time for our anniversary! The owners are so wonderful. If you want yummy wine bar food and delicious wine, this is your spot. We had our go to wine and cheese date night delivered and couldn't be happier! We can't wait to see you all in person again VinoRosso, but until then thanks for a little romance delivered to our door!

Yelp
Vino. Vino. Vino. This cute & cozy Italian restaurant is located in the lovely Bernal Heights neighborhood. I absolutely adore Bernal Heights! A girlfriend & I hooked up for an early dinner and walked into Vino Rosso. Perfect timing because we made it in time for their happy hour specials. HH is from 4-7pm. Daily Specials: -$4 Prosecco & Lambrusco -$3 Beers -$6 Homemade Lasagna & Eggplant Parmigiana (both VERY good) Wednesday "Family Friendly" Special: Yep, you can bring the kiddos during HH, order pizza, & have a glass of wine. Whoa, it's possible. Quarterly Specials: Italian wine tasting classes As for the food, the cheese platters ($10-$15) are a must! Not only was it amazing, but it was completely satisfying. We opted for the following DELICIOUS cheeses: -Pecorino Romano DOP-hard, aged sheep's milk cheese -Tronchetto di capra- soft goat's milk cheese w/ honey &walnuts -Parmigiano Reggiano DOP- hard, aged cow's milk cheese Bottom line: wine shop, wine bar, & great Italian eats. You can't go wrong with that. Yep, I'm coming back.

Yelp
After failing to get a response from either of the two staff members as we stood inside the door, we slowly made our way to the closest of many empty tables. Before sitting down, a second look behind the bar (countered by a blank stare from a staff member,) reassured me that I was my own guide in this place. We sat ... and sat ... and sat for over 5 minutes until the waitress came over with menus (still no communication.) The staff to customer ratio was 1:2, unfortunately, there were only 4 people in the place; one was drinking water and not eating. The couple next to us ordered before we arrived, but still hadn't received their wine. VinoRosso serves a lot of Italian wines that aren't found elsewhere and charge anywhere between $9-$22 for a healthy pour; that's a bit on the high side. The service, atmosphere, and prices were enough to quickly erase any good feeling about the place. bottom line: Have a glass of wine on your way to dinner elsewhere. $$$ = 2 glasses of wine. We didn't eat.
