Best Phoenix Breakfast Restaurants | Eater Phoenix

"This neighborhood breakfast-only restaurant combines influences from the U.S., Europe, and Mexico, not to mention a thoughtful coffee program with options such as Japanese cold brew and pour-over flights. Many of the breakfasts lean rich, such as biscuits and gravy, johnnycakes, or the pork chop, waffle, egg, and Portuguese doughnut combo. Don’t miss the eggs Benedict here, which comes with chorizo on sopes." - Jamie Phillis

The Maine's Favorite Restaurants In Phoenix

"“My first thought of the day after arriving home from tour is: where can I get something for brunch? Vovomeena is a staple. They use some of the best ingredients around, including the local Schreiner’s sausage in one of my favorite dishes, the Bangin Pocket. Eggs, gouda cheese, and sausage in a fresh pita. Like Ricky said, ‘She bangs, she bangs …oh baby, when she moves she moves.’ Good vibes fill the room and the same staff that were running the place ten years ago when I started going there are still around to greet you with smiles at the door. And for coffee drinkers, they have an incredible in-house cold brew. The mocha cappuccino is the perfect amount of chocolate to sweeten up your day. It’s a consistently great place and I routinely find something new to enjoy about this gem in Phoenix.” - Kennedy Brock" - jess basser sanders

Best Brunch Restaurants in Phoenix, Arizona | Eater Phoenix

"Vovomeena, initially unassuming and nestled behind an array of large chain restaurants off of McDowell, is a charming counter-service establishment that has earned its place as a local favorite, and it’s easy to see why. If they can’t create something on-site, they source it locally. Vovomeena features an impressive coffee selection, partnering with the local Roastery of Cave Creek and showcasing a Japanese cold-brewed coffee technique. This method involves allowing cold water to slowly drip, one by one, over the coffee grounds, resulting in a stronger and less acidic flavor. Be prepared for parking challenges, and there is often a long line (though it moves quickly), so plan for some extra time." - McConnell Quinn

Google
My wife found this place for our anniversary breakfast. It’s a nice cafe with a cool vibe. We had the waffle plate with eggs and chicken sausage, the sausage / egg sandwich with potatoes, and the coffee cake. The waffle and eggs were a solid choice. The waffle was soft inside and lightly crispy outside. The breakfast sandwich was especially good due to the soft bread. The coffee “cake” was just that… a slice of cake. A large portion and unexpectedly unique. We took this home and we found it to be a bit bland (but could’ve been because it sat for a while in the take out box). The food was good. It’s a tad pricey but isn’t everything these days. The location is a bit far from us but if we’re in that area it will be a consideration for us to return.

Great food, great service, great atmosphere! My husband and I came here 7 years ago and it was delicious. We don't eat out for breakfast much but came back today for breakfast after my son's graduation and it was just as delicious as it was years ago. You can taste the freshness in every meal. We had waffles, bacon, biscuits and gravy, potatoes, johnnycakes, chorizo and eggs.. it was all very good. The restaurant is clean and the service was great. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a fresh, authentic, good breakfast spot.

Google
A great experience. We started with an amazingly efficient experience upon entering. The menu is very interesting. I had the Banging Pocket, she had the Savory Crepes. The flavors were amazing, the construction great. The Banging Pocket was a really cool take on bangers and mash for breakfast. The service was friendly, and quick. If you are looking for a great breakfast experience, this is it.

The setup is semi self-service as they are a bit understaffed: you order at the counter, they bring the food to your table, but you have to pick up your drinks yourself. I think this would be different on the days when they are expecting more customers! As for the food--it was fine but the atmosphere has added a few points to it. Portions are generous, but the chicken burger was a bit under-seasoned to me. The blueberry pancake was what you’d expect from standard pancakes, fluffy and soaks up all the syrup. Overall, great spot for a relaxing brunch!

Google
Cute little breakfast place! The savory crepes with chicken were pretty good, although they could definitely use more seasoning. My wife’s omelette was good too, but the side of seasoned potatoes were especially a standout and I definitely stole some off her plate! My latte was fine, nothing spectacular, but perfectly serviceable. Overall, I could see coming back here in the future to try out their more unique items such as the johnnycakes.

If Vovomeena were a person, I’d have proposed by now. Hands down one of the best breakfast spots in downtown Phoenix, and I’m not just saying that because I’ve had dreams about their coffee. This place has been my go-to for years, and not once have they let me down. The atmosphere is pure eclectic charm—like your artsy aunt’s living room met a Southwest gallery and they decided to raise succulents together. Think: bold navy walls, vintage landscape paintings, sunburst wall décor, and enough throw pillows to make your inner maximalist squeal. Even the outdoor patio is a vibe—blue umbrellas, desert greenery, and that kind of effortless Arizona cool that makes you want to sit there all day and contemplate buying a wide-brim hat. Inside, the space has that hip, industrial-loft-meets-local-cafe feel. Exposed ductwork, cozy lighting, a wall of vintage album covers, and a coffee setup that looks like it belongs in a mad scientist’s lab (in the best way possible). Every detail feels thoughtful without trying too hard—and the same goes for the food. Speaking of food—dear sweet syrupy heavens—the food is phenomenal. Everything on the menu hits. The flavor, the presentation, the portion size—it’s like they asked, “What if we made breakfast a love language?” and then followed through with gusto. Whether you’re a savory bruncher or sweet-tooth enthusiast, you’re going to find your perfect dish here. And the service? Genuinely lovely. Everyone is friendly, fast, and somehow manages to make you feel like a regular even if it’s your first time. It’s that rare balance of attentive without being overbearing. Long story short: Vovomeena is everything you want in a breakfast spot and more. It’s the kind of place you tell all your friends about… and then secretly hope they don’t go too often so you can still get a table.

First time here, had driven by this area several times, didn't know it was here, definitely a hidden gem. The food was delicious, coffee was Devine. Had an iced lavender latte and orchard French toast, bery filling. Will definitely be back !

Google
I went there last year, and did not do a review at the time. But this one’s deserves one, I loved to have brunch there, I’m sure when I go back to Phoenix, I will stop by

Yelp
This place is really nice and cozy, I definitely love the vibes and it's nicely decorated with plants. I ordered the biscuits and gravy with freshly squeezed orange juice and it was delicious! Btw the coffee is really good too!Lady at the counter was really nice and helpful. If you don't come here, you're sleeping on this place.

Yelp
The food, service and atmosphere was great. I had a struggles with deciding on what to order and then remembered I can always go back. I am excited to have found a new go to breakfast spot. This place really delivered!

Yelp
I came here with some coworkers on a Friday morning around 11am. I love the ambiance and decor of this place. The service was decent and the staff were friendly. My scramble was pretty good. It came with a waffle which was really good as well. I didn't get a picture because it smelled SO good when it came out that I started eating it immediately! The chicken sandwich looked amazing and my coworker said that it tasted the same. I'm not a big French toast person but if I were, I'm sure I'd love the ones my other coworker had. I will definitely be back because I have to get the chicken sandwich!

Yelp
Great spot serving hearty and delicious breakfast plates! You can tell that they care about the food they serve. The ambiance is nice and cozy. Service was good too.

Yelp
Service was great and food was too!! Super busy but got seated quickly for two. Coffee flight was worth getting.

Yelp
Vovomeena gets a 10/10 for food, service, and ambiance! From their cold brew flights to the eclectic brunch menu, everything hits the mark. I've been coming here for over 12 years, and the food and hospitality remain just as amazing as day one. It truly feels like an extension of my own home--they always make me feel welcome. Highly recommend! My all-time favorite? The Johnny Cakes. An absolute must-try.

Yelp
This is my favorite breakfast spot in the valley! I had the Blackstone scramble with a portuguese donut this time but can also vouch for the Tortilla Española and the Pain Perdu. The interior feels quite cozy, but larger parties may find it difficult to sit together as you have to grab a table after you order.

Joslyn R.

Yelp
Stopped by for breakfast and I was pleasantly surprised with how amazing this place is! I will definitely be back to try other items on the menu as everything we got was delicious! Everything about this place is great from the friendly staff to the clean & beautiful environment! I 100% recommend this place for anyone looking to have a nice brunch!

Yelp
First stop after picking up the car at the airport. Vovomeena was the perfect spot to refuel for our trek to Sedona. Not at all busy late morning on a Thursday. Order at the counter then grab a table and they'll deliver your food to you. My friend and I shared the veggie omelette with spuds. It was pretty substantial so glad we decided to go that route even though a couple other vegetarian options sounded good too. Staff was super friendly, and the ambiance was inviting. Very pleased with this find!

Yelp
My partner and I ate at Vovomeena for the first time a couple weeks ago. We went on a Sunday around 9:30am and while it was busy, there were still plenty of tables inside and outside available. The restaurant is counter-service so after you order you find a table and they bring the food out for you. We ordered the Tortilla Espanola and the Chorizo & Eggs. I also got a side of spuds. I thought the tortilla espanola was very good; definitely a unique menu item. The spuds were tasty as well. They weren't overly greasy like some breakfast potatoes are. My partner wasn't the biggest fan of his Chorizo & Eggs. He said the main selling point of the dish was the Schreiner's chorizo, but there was so little meat he didn't feel like it was worth it. Also, the tortilla on the side was cold. A warm tortilla would have been a better option. All-in-all it was a decent first experience and I would try them again at some point.

Yelp
Amazing place to eat and hang out. This is a walk up and order at the counter and get a number type of restaurant. Everything was delicious the coffee was full of flavor and the food was great. We enjoyed our meal and will come back and visit again. Cheers!
google avatar

Yelp
Great little breakfast/brunch spot with a little coffee bar in the back. The portion sizes are huge and all the food is very delicious. I tried my first portuguese donut here which is what it is known for. I personally would have passed on it but it might be just my personal taste. They have a good outdoor seating area which is pet friendly as well. I got the banging pocket and wished I had the stomach to try some other things as well. When the plate hit the table my jaw dropped at how big it was!
google avatar

Kaylin W.

Yelp
I have had this place saved for while and finally was able to give it a try! I had the savory crepes and they were just lacking a flavor aspect, I think the sauce on them could have more depth and spice. I also added on a donut and it wasn't warm and not super sweet. I tried my friend's Johnny Cakes and it was very interesting, i haven't tasted pancakes like that. The corn gave it a totally different flavor profile. Another member of my group got the black stone scramble and while he liked it he wasn't blown away. The interior was nice and clean. All the staff we interacted with were friendly. I just don't think it would be a place I would return to.

Yelp
My husband and I have been going to this place numerous times and even taken are families here. It's a great place with good food. First things first you can't just hold a table for your party you have to order first before you can find a place to sit. They will then provide a number so they can bring the food to your table once it's ready. As for drink orders like lattes you can pick it up by their coffee bar area. Our favorite is always the b.m.o.c, The chorizo & Eggs, Savory Crepes! Overall, great spot with good food.

Yelp
I had heard good things about this breakfast place, and clearly others had, too. At 9:30, the place was completely full inside and the patio was just about full, too. Great, inviting decor had several tables and chairs and a few high tops with stools. There's also patio seating, surrounded by lots of plants. You order at the counter, and your food is delivered to your table. Our food came out relatively quickly. We had the Pain Perdu, which is a banana bread pudding French toast topped with sliced bananas and whiskey caramel, and served with your choice of meat. We chose the bacon. We also had the Pawtucket West, with scrambled eggs, a waffle, and two sausages. It was a pretty big breakfast - - I've never sure why two eggs look so much smaller when I make them at home. We also bought the Japanese coffee flight. They are much different than American Coffee. My son really loved them. I like the way they use local products, like Hickman's eggs and Schreiner's sausage. The service was friendly enough, the decor very inviting, and the food was good.

Yelp
Stopped by for brunch around 10 am and the line wasn't bad however fast forward 1-2 hrs later and it was packed. You order at the counter, pay and get a number so they bring your food to the table. Coffee and drinks are picked inside. I got the 3 sister omelette with bacon. It had corn, beans, zucchini and feta cheese. It was good, but nothing really stood out in terms of flavor. If I wasn't watching my carb intake I would have definitely gone with a dish that had pancakes because they looked pretty good. I was a little turned off by the lack of alternative milks, they only had oat milk so I had to skip coffee since I was hoping I could get a latte with almond milk. Service was fast. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Finding parking wasn't hard which is always a plus when going out. Overall I feel I'm not going to be rushing back.

Yelp
Amazing food, biscuits and gravy highly recommended, the guy in the front was very but very nice and his humor amazing!!!!
google avatar

Shaun M.

Yelp
Super cute spot with comfy outdoor seating. The staff was friendly and helpful. I consider myself to be a pancake connoisseur but unfortunately as food quality has changed it's more difficult to find quality pancakes. Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture but the blueberry pancakes were good. I don't eat pork so I had the chicken sausage which was decent for chicken sausage. I would definitely comeback again.
google avatar

Cathy V.

Yelp
Great spot. Very fresh, homemade quality. Lots of wonderful unique choices. Only critique is, like most restaurants, no organic options are offered. I'd go more often if there was pasture raised eggs, nitrite nitrate free bacon, etc. wish restaurants would wake up to the health issues of food. MAHA
google avatar

Ananya M.

Yelp
This place is okay. I like the concept with like Mexican fusion brunch, but I do think it is a bit overrated. The orchard French toast was a standout, the apples were very fresh, the Mexican Benedict tho were pretty greasy with a lot of oil from the chorizo and the potatoes were a bit undercooked. I'd say this place is slightly above average. Service was good, but it's a little chaotic with the system of having to order at the counter. Overall decent brunch place but probably wouldnt come again.
google avatar

Victoria C.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday morning and it wasn't too busy but once we finished eating and looked around the place was packed. So make sure you come early there isn't a lot of seating for big groups and can feel a bit crowded inside. The tortilla española is very tasty the sauce it comes with has a bit of a kick to it which I loved. It would be nice if they added some dressing to the greens but honestly it worked as a great palette cleanser. Definitely try their cold brew and chai tea latte it was our favorite!!!!
google avatar

cm g.

Yelp
First time and it was a great experience. Brunch time, with pancakes and biscuits and gravy. I was intrigued by the prickly pear syrup, so asked to try that with regulate pancakes. Everything made in-house and quick. Separate coffee station which is helpful so that the main ordering line doesn't get congested by people waiting for their coffee orders. Love the creative decor and comfortable vibe. Staff were accommodating and friendly. Good food, great place located in a courtyard entrance and some parking in the lot. Can see that parking is an issue at times.
google avatar

Patrick P.

Yelp
Food was fantastic overall. Really good Chorizo on the Mexican Benedict and the idea of the use of Sope as the "muffin" was perfect. Down sides: no alcohol, counter order service. But overall worth a try.
google avatar

Dennys J.

Yelp
This place is amazing and very cute! Food was great and plenty!! We were so full and even had leftovers for the next day haha. The line moves really quick but the place is not super big so I would say the earlier you get there the better so you can be seated faster. Its very close to our place so we will be def coming back soon
google avatar

Yelp
Went on a Sunday morning, wasn't overly busy. Was able to walk right up to the counter and order our food, got one of many open tables on the patio. The person I went with ordered a chai, but there was absolutely nothing special about it. Watched them mix Tazo concentrate with milk, exactly as I could have made at home. The chorizo and eggs down was fine, again nothing special. Felt mostly like eggs with just BARELY enough chorizo to give it a red color but not much flavor. The potatoes were bland as could be and DRY! I had to take a drink after each bite of potato just to wash them down. Decent spot if you're in the area for a quick breakfast , just don't expect to be wowed.
google avatar

Kim S.

Yelp
The iced chai latte was delish- perfect sweetness and spice. The Spanish tortilla reminded me of Spain - great side salad and sauce. The atmosphere is great but small tables hard for a bigger group.
google avatar

Yesenia C.

Yelp
New spot for my boyfriend and I and it was such a cute little brunch spot. The food was soo good. We ordered the johnnycakes which were alright. They're savory pancakes served with prickly pear syrup and arroz con leche, it was the chile season in the pancakes that threw me off. My boyfriend ordered the orchard French toast and he enjoyed it quite a bit. Service was nice, the workers were kind.
google avatar

Stephanie O.

Yelp
Had takeout for breakfast and tried the Mexican benedict. The presentation was pretty great even in a box! The eggs were poached well and the chorizo and hollandaise were delicious. I didn't like the sopes as much, I thought they were a bit tough to eat. Looking forward to try other items on their menu!

Jimmy P.

Yelp
Good coffee with generally good food. Service is great and the interior is clean. I would give it 5/5 stars but the breakfast potatoes lack crisp and flavor.
google avatar

David P.

Yelp
I didn't get why this is such a popular, well-reviewed restaurant. My wife and I grabbed breakfast there before visiting the Heard Museum. We entered, grabbed a couple of menus, then went to the counter/kitchen to order. I ordered the Mexican Benedict, my wife ordered the 3 Sisters Omelet (with potatoes), and we each had a coffee. There was plenty of food, but just not that great. My Benedict had very spicy chorizo (I like that!) that was overly greasy. The large side of grilled potatoes had little seasoning and nothing much to recommend them. My wife's omelet was quite large, nearly like a frittata, and she enjoyed it. I had a few bites and it was fine, yet rather plain. The coffee really needs to be upgraded, and it seemed a bit pricey for self-serve. Actually, the whole meal seemed a bit pricey for what we had. Show less
google avatar

Russell B.

Yelp
Awesome breakfast. Cool little spot. Seems small and crowded when you walk in, but had no problem finding a spot to eat. Not much to say. Food was excellent. I had the chorizo and eggs and my wife had the Mexican Benedict. Both were delicious. They advertise that everything is made from scratch and you can really taste it. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
I've driven by this place so many times and have wanted to check it out for awhile! I'm glad I finally stopped in with a friend to grab brunch. It's very cool that you can see the kitchen as you're standing in line to order. I ordered the huevos rancheros and while it was good I feel like it lacked flavor and I was surprised by that I'm impressed with the service and the extensive menu so I will be back to try more!
google avatar

Jim C.

Yelp
Just left the VNSA book sale (score!) and headed to Vovo's for brunch. YUM. I had the blueberry pancakes. Mainly cause I haven't had blueberry pancakes since, like, 7th grade. YUM. (egg whites and turkey sausage came with it. yum!) My sister had the Three Sisters omelette. YUM! Great atmosphere. Super friendly wait staff. Every plate around me looked yum!

Yelp
Yelp brought us to Vovomeena and we're glad it did. When you walk in, there's a sign that walks you through the process. Walk inside, take a menu, order when you're ready, and then find a table. Once we ordered, our food was ready within ten minutes. The French toast with the honey mascarpone was very good (and sweet!). My daughter loved her pancakes and my wife really enjoyed the biscuits and gravy. We left content. They have bottomless coffee and free ice water in the back.
google avatar

Tarren P.

Yelp
Stopped in for breakfast and it did not disappoint! Good service, good quality, tasty food and lots of options! We sat on the patio but I wish we sat inside since it's super cute decor! Will definitely be back next time I'm on that side of town hungry
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
The food was really well portioned, and filling. Couldn't have asked for a better brunch spot. Service was amazing since I have severe food allergies and handled my dairy allergen very well. I also loved the ambiance with great natural lighting and beautiful interior decor.

Yelp
Vovomeena has been on my brunch list for quite a while but I never found the right time to go until today! Vovomeena is situated in a courtyard with a couple of other stores and has both in-door and outdoor seating. It's unique in that you order and pay first before being seated by a manager or staff member. I'm not too much of a sweets girly so I opted for the Willo Chicken Sandwich off of the lunch menu. This is a fire grilled seasoned chicken breast with crisp bacon, swiss, spicy mayo, sliced tomato, and lettuce on a grilled roll served with a side of crisp home fries. The home fries had a nice crispy shell and were pillow-y soft on the inside. They're basically a wedge fry which was a bit different from the thin potato chip fries I was expecting as house fries (haha). The fries were a bit over-salted in my opinion but I love potatoes so can't complain too much! I ordered the sandwich with spicy mayo on the side since I can't really take spice with my IBS. The sandwich is more like a burger and its size definitely dominates the plate. The chicken breast was quite large and had grill marks on both sides. The bacon was wonderfully crispy with little oil bits that were still bubbling upon arrival. The bun is squishy yet keeps its shape and lends well to the overall flavor profile of the sammich. After my first bite, I felt the sandwich itself had great flavor and was seasoned well but came off a bit dry. I definitely recommend dolloping on some mayo (I asked for regular mayo too!). It's a very big portion and I would recommend sharing with your partner or friend unless you're super hungry! They also had orange juice which was so SO sweet and seemed like it was freshly squeezed. Overall, 5.5/10. Vovomeena has decent breakfast options! The interior can get quite loud when its busy so I would try to sit out on the patio if it isn't too sunny. They also don't automatically offer water so make sure you ask at the counter! **please follow @leafynoms on instagram for more content and reviews!**
google avatar

Paul L.

Yelp
When I arrived, the place was crowded but I snagged a seat in the back. I was lucky because by the time I left, there was a line out the door. Fresh orange juice, a latte, and hefty omelet was the perfect and filling start to the day.

Yelp
Came here on a whim for brunch before going to hike the Superstition Mountains, and it was a pretty good choice! It's located near the intersection of McDowell and 7th Ave with 2 parking lots nearby that provide free parking. There's also indoor and outdoor seating with ample coverage from the burning sun, so I know his place gets packed during patio season. It's an order at the front type of restaurant, so make sure you kinda know what you want before lining up. There's also a self-serve area for you to get your water and coffee. I had ordered the chorizo & eggs with potatoes, while my boyfriend got the Encanto garden scramble I believe. Loved the chorizo and eggs! The flavor was there, and the amount of food was def enough to fill me up. I tried some of the scramble and thought it was pretty good as well. Additionally, I ordered the chai latte, and it was just the thing to give me a little pep to my step. The only reason why I took off a star was because of the price. While the food was good, it seemed a little steep imo for the order style of the place. Not much service other than them putting in your orders at the counter and then dropping off the plates when it's ready, but I digress
google avatar

Steve L.

Yelp
Stopped by Vovomeena around 8:30AM on a weekend and was able to secure a table relatively quickly. There is seating both indoors and outdoors. After ordering at the counter, you can select your table and the food will be brought out to you. Bottomless drip coffee is available and self-served, which I actually prefer. It is much easier than flagging down an employee to refill it for you. I really enjoyed the Orchard French Toast with a side of chicken sausage links and liked the contrast of sweet and savory in the Johnnycakes although my partner did not like it as much. I would definitely revisit and try other dishes on their menu.

Deb K.

Yelp
I was looking forward to the three sisters omelette and my crispy bacon. The Omelette was flavorless and dry. And the bacon was burnt . Not going to be a return customer.
google avatar

Akul M.

Yelp
I got the pancakes which were very average but the Mexican Benedict was pretty good as was the orchid French toast.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing restaurant. Great service & excellent food. Loved the atmosphere. Went on a Sunday morning after staying in Glendale for a concert. Staff is very friendly. I'm in the area at least once a month - looking forward to coming back. The Mexican Benedict was delicious.

Yelp
I've been coming to this place for about 10 years now. First time was my freshman year while attending GCU. This is long overdue and I'm so happy to write this review. I now drive from Chandler to bring my wife and kids here. That commitment speaks to the consistency of this establishment. Food, service, and cleanliness is always top notch. This is the place I always recommend when friends or family visit or when anyone asked for a good break/brunch spot. Over the years some of my go-to's have become the Pain Perdu, Orchard French toast... I am a huge French toast fan and this is some of the best you will find in the Phoenix Metro area. The Mexican Benedict and biscuits and gravy are both amazing as well. For the sides.. They use smoked Gouda in their scrambled eggs which is sooo good, it inspired me to make them that way at home. The OJ is freshly squeezed. Last and certainly not least is a special S/O to Kai and team! Thank you for always being kind, thank you for all of the hard work you do to keep the place clean, and although an issue is very rare, thank you for always handling it with care. See you next time!

Yelp
The place was busy, but not too busy we had to wait. The Mexican Benedict was good, but a bit on the greasy side from the chorizo. But it was good I ate it all. Loved the decor. The barista spot was different having to wait for my beverage before seating myself.

Yelp
What a beautiful spot. Highly recommend! You enter through the courtyard which has outside/patio seating. Inside is very cozy and bright. You grab a menu, get in line, order your food and then they bring it to you. Excellent and friendly service. Great pastries. Tasty Japanese cold brew. I got the Mexican Benedict which had chorizo, poached eggs, and hollandaise on sopes. Delicious! Their pancakes and bacon are super tasty too. Smaller party friendly as the tables seat 2-4 and it's fairly tight. Plenty of parking to the south and to the east. Keep in mind they share space with a lot of other businesses.
