Originally went on opening day but it was so busy that I had to leave a come back another day. I’m glad I did! This warabimochi was delicious! If you’re familiar with warabimochi from Japan- this is slightly softer than when made during the spring in Japan but it still has that classic pull and chew that then melts in your mouth. The matcha was definitely food grade but till went well with the warabimochi. The kinako was good as well. I personally liked the strawberry mochi drink as it was better balanced in terms of the sweetness vs the tart. The hojicha was too sweet for me personally. I look forward to when they have their yuzu drink! I would definitely come back here again when craving warbimochi.

This was my first time to try a beverage like this. This is so much better than boba! The mochi in the drink is a jelly-like texture that is transparent, chewy, and settles on the bottom. I got a sweet matcha latte and my little one got a strawberry milk. We were both so happy to try this place. The drinks are on the expensive side, but they are so worth it!

I didn't understand the hype about these viral mochis straight from Japan until I tried them for myself. This is Warabimochi Kamakura's first location in the US with the yummiest freshmade mochis right in the heart of the Shops at Santa Anita. They're soft and pillowy, and sooo stretchy, with kinako, which is roasted soybean, and deep matcha powder. Drizzle on some of their pure Okinawan brown sugar syrup to give it an intensity of flavor. And paired with any of their specialty mochi drinks is the ultimate combo. The mochi topping in the drinks really works! Lines were wrapped around when I visited and I could definitely see why! Thanks for reading! ^-^

Google
Good strawberry mochi milk drink. I’ve never tried something like this before. It was basically small flat pieces of mochi that were slippery and a bit chewy, with strawberry puree, milk, and whipped cream on top. It tasted great and service was extremely quick. Only downside is that it was nearly $7 including tax for a tiny small sized drink. Nice to try a new authentic Japanese dessert place, but definitely not worth the price.

Google
1st time here to try the hype. Got the mochi stuff and was not impressed. It’s ultra chewy and gooey. So if you a person that minds funky texture I would not eat this. I got the coffee drink and it was good. I would get that again and they put that mochi stuff in it which combines well. Both are not as sweet which I like. It’s lightly sweet. Try them out and see what you think.

Google
This place is delicious. My favorite was the warabi mochi. Its flavor is good like a nutty flavor, reminds me of mazapan. I tried the straberry matcha but The hojicha drink is my favorite .I really hope the drinks would have more mochi in them. I like thatvthe drinks arw mot so sweet because of that u can enjoy the taste of the drink.

I went on a Wednesday right before closing (2pm). No line and very friendly service. They weren’t selling the 10pc, not sure why. I got the Hojicha mochi latte and both types of mochi. The Hojicha drink was pretty good, you can tell the tea quality is good and it wasn’t too sweet: the mochi in the drink was where the sweetness came from. However, I will say the mochi is not the best texture to be in a drink. It was hard to get a mix of both the liquid and the mochi in one sip — I usually just got a big mouthful of mochi. And the texture was hard to drink and chew at the same time. The mochi itself was a good texture, very chewy and the dusting of sugar/matcha paired very well. I couldn’t eat more than 3 individual mochis in one sitting though since it was pretty sweet and the individual mochi are pretty big. I gave 4 stars because I don’t really think it’s worth the price point but I would say it’s nice as an occasional treat or to gift to someone. :)

Today was the first day of regular pricing. I arrived at 11:18, and by 11:28, I had my mochi—so fast! The mochi was perfectly balanced, not too sweet, with just the right flavor. The strawberry milk drink was also amazing, with bits of mochi inside—so good! The matcha was excellent too.

Yelp
Warabimochi Kamakura, a well known mochi dessert shop from Japan, opened its first U.S. spot at the Shops at Santa Anita in Arcadia, and it was chaos with crowds at first. We returned after the hype settled, and with shorter lines, I finally tasted what the fuss was about--freshly made mochis that are soft, stretchy, and downright delicious, sprinkled with kinako (roasted soybean) and deep matcha powder. The experience gets even better with their Okinawan brown sugar syrup, which adds a bold sweetness that's hard to resist. We also paired the mochi with one of their specialty mochi drinks, where the mochi topping totally awesome, and this combo that truly lives up to the viral fame. A few months ago, during the grand opening, lines stretched forever, but it's clear this place is here to stay!

Cassidy I.

Yelp
The consistency and flavor of the matcha mochi was terrible. Like eating a bland, dirty jellyfish! There was none of the nice grassy flavor matcha usually has, it was like doing a matcha version of the cinnamon challenge. This is in a mall food court. There is a lot of seating, but it's usually full or the tables are dirty. Expect to wait in line, especially if you are ordering a drink. The mochi itself comes out quickly.

Astrud A.

Yelp
This is my Go-To matcha spot in Arcadia! I was so excited when they opened! You might find a line when you go, and might take some time, but I tell you, it's worth it! It's right in the middle/side of the food court (1st level) in Westfield Santa Anita Mall. I always get the Matcha or the Hojicha Latte with Mochi. The flavor and quality of the mochi in the drink is so good! You might wanna go for seconds. Definitely recommend 10/10!

Yelp
They hype has FINALLY died down for this place. I remembered the debacle that was the grand opening and for a period of time, they were only open until 3 PM and now it's open at the regular hours of the mall. I guess the line fluctuates here and there since I came here on a Saturday, had no wait, and less than 2 minutes later, my order was ready. When I went back through the food court later on, a line of at least 5-6 parties have already formed. They do make it a note that they will only call your name TWICE and can't guarantee that they will make your order again, as well as a list of other warnings (choking hazard, ingredients, potential allergens, etc.). I will admit that the packaging is very nice and aesthetic. And it's the first time I'm having a more "authentic" warabimochi that's not from a grocery store or from Kura (lol). I got the: 1) Hojicha Mochi Latte (small): -Comes with some whipped cream on top. -Very small cup size, this is definitely the size that you get overseas though, since I feel like this drink is more a nice dessert you steadily sip on throughout the day instead of inhaling all at once like most of us Americans. -Pleasant sweet hojicha with the brown sugar taste of the mochi below. I think I prefer the texture of the mochi when it's more "broken" apart and with a liquid to accompany it. 2) Chocolate Warabi Mochi: -This is their seasonal limited release that I believe is made with Ghiradelli chocolate and is a dark chocolate mochi with a strawberry sauce drizzle. -It was a very strong dark, bitter chocolate with a very sour strawberry sauce. -Not the best mix to replicate chocolate dipped strawberries. My brother really, really did not like this one. -If you're a fan of the 2 flavors I mentioned above, then get it, but I am going to skip this in the future. 3) Mixed Set (This comes with their original warabi mochi and matcha): -This comes with a simple syrup to add on top of the mochi. -I preferred the matcha as it was not as "powdery" as the original. Not too bitter either. -The original came with a good amount of kinako and had a nice toasty sesame taste to it because of that. However, I accidentally inhaled before chewing and ended up coughing and coughing even more from the goopeyness (think a 2 pronged cinnamon challenge attack). -This is probably the best to get if you want to try more of their items. All in all, flavors were fine, might be more of a texture thing for me and I traditionally am not the biggest fan of the super slorpy chewy long gooey texture, regardless of the food. Nobody in my family was either, so this was a miss for us. I'm sure if you're a super big mochi fan, this might be a hit for you!

Yelp
Finally got to try Japanese warabi mochi here at the Santa Anita Mall and waooo SO IMPRESSED ! I came when the hype died down a bit & did not wait in like on a Sunday afternoon. I ordered the matcha + kinako warabi mochi set. I have a sweet tooth and absolutely loved how yummy this was. The texture was so fun -- soft and squishy & coated with kinako/matcha. I love how stretchy it is -- the softer the better imo hehehe This is a nice addition to the Arcadia mall and I'm so glad to see this mall offering more Japanese options. Warabimochi Kamakura also offers drinks other than their infamous mochi.

Karl K.

Yelp
Mehh. Not sure what the hype is. Bought a 12 piece and three mochi drinks for almost $50 The mochi was extensively dusted with flour / matcha, and was the consistency of children's slime toys. Taste was meh. Overrated. I prefer my mochi to be firmer consistency.

Diana T.

Yelp
Mochi was just as described, the texture is soft and chewy which is hard to accomplish. Maybe I'm used to other Asian mochi, I did not like the texture as much. The cashier was alright with her recommendations. She just suggested we try the original if it was our first time. Their decorations were nice, they keep it clean and simple.

Arnold T.

Yelp
My friend brought me here to try the warabimochi after having lunch at Red Rock, which I thought was delicious, but this place made the entire lunch experience exponentially better. I ordered the "Mix" so I could try both the original and the matcha. The texture was so soft and heavenly, each bite better than the last. The matcha flavor was a bit on the lighter side but I enjoyed it. We both also ordered the Matcha Latte with the mochi. The beverage was refreshing but be sure to stir/mix well so you get the mochi, which has a moderate sweetness to it, as you consume the latte. Service was quick and friendly and thankfully there wasn't any line when we stopped by. This shop is located in the foot court so it can get pretty loud when it gets busy. An awesome dessert place and a must try. Will return!

Tiffany C.

Yelp
This is my first time trying this type of mochi and wow I'm impressed since this is so different than the typical mochi. Eat it fresh and don't wait! My friend and I got the 12 pieces and honestly you can share it between 3-4 people and it's more than enough per person.

Yelp
The absolute best traditional Japanese warabi mochi I've found in SoCal! I was ecstatic when I heard they were opening a location in the Santa Anita Mall, but the hype was so crazy when they first opened! The lines were unbelievable and they would run out of product, so I decided to wait until the buzz calmed down a bit. Once I felt it did, I headed over to the food court and found it! The service here is great and everyone was Japanese the day I went, which will help if you're bringing someone who only speaks Japanese. The packaging here is beautiful and there are two main choices- matcha, kinako, or a combination of both. If you aren't a fan of these flavors, this won't be a good choice for you. There are plenty of drink options to try, like their strawberry matcha latte which was delish! But there is a generous coating of flavored powder and also get a small dropper of sauce to top the mochi with. If you've had this before and like it, you will LOVE this one! It's super soft, the powders are of high quality, and it's very traditional in taste and texture! Most people who aren't familiar with warabi are going to expect something like the Mochi you get with Mochi ice cream or as a topping at a yogurt shop. That is NOT what warabi is- it's meant to be really, really pillowy soft with a bit of stretch with the flavors being delicate and subdued. But WK is the absolute best! I've picked it up for gifts and for just a treat for my family and it's consistently delicious!

Jessica N.

Yelp
I've had their warabi mochi in Kyoto and it's very similar. I would only say the Kyoto version had more powder but otherwise, pretty close. No line on a Saturday afternoon and the staff was very nice and fast. I had both the matcha and original. I'd say the original was better because the matcha was a little weak. The hojicha mochi drink was not too sweet and the mochi texture was closer to jelly. It had a strong tea flavor and wasn't watered down at all. Located in the food court as a standalone booth. I'd recommend it for anyone in the area since it's hard to get decent warabi mochi in California. (The warabi mochi in Mitsuwa and Tokyo Central are not good.)

Danny N.

Yelp
I was very excited to learn this place was in the LA area! I wanted to try the mochi. It was chewy and had lots of mochi on it! The coffee milk was really good! Glad that it's here and the wait wasn't too long.

Diana L.

Yelp
I guess the hype is over now. I went on a Saturday afternoon and there was no line. We ordered the matcha warabimochi (5 pieces) along with their coffee milk tea & strawberry matcha latte. The matcha warabiomochi was very interesting. If you love matcha they definitely cake it with matcha powder. The texture was as expected super chewy. They give you a small tiny bottle of syrup to drizzle over the mochi with as well. After one piece I was okay with it. It's not on the sweet side which was perfect. The coffee milk tea was definitely on the strong side and had a kick to it. My partner also liked his strawberry matcha latte. We both agreed that for the price that we paid and the size of the drink it was definitely on the pricey side. Overwall my experience was kinda meh.

Linda L.

Yelp
This is a nice sweet treat in the Santa Anita mall. This is in the middle of the food court area in the mall. There's lots of seating available in this bright mall area. The service was pretty quick, we got our drinks and mochi within 5-10 minutes. It's pretty expensive in my opinion but it's high quality and freshly made. The drinks are pretty sweet. I got Yuzu Lemonade with mochi. The mochi actually made this really interesting to drink. I loved the matcha warabimochi, it's not as sweet and helps to cut the sweetness from the drinks.

Jessy Z.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this for a while now since I heard that a location opened in the US. It's located at the food court in the Santa Anita mall and right across from Churnt Creamery. The location is a small stand but it is located near some tables, allowing some down time for people who want to snack and relax. Service was relative quick and efficient. I didn't have to wait long for my order at all. I ordered the warabimochi and that's its basic mochi. It's covered in a soy powder that gives it a nutty flavor and it's paired with a sweet syrup in a small bottle. The texture of the mochi is a bit different from the typical expectation as it has a more of a jelly like texture. However, it still has that chewiness and bite from a typical mochi. I also got the unsweetened hojicha just to test out their basic tea and it's honestly pretty solid. Overall, I thought everything I got was pretty good. I would definitely come back here again to purchase warabimochi from them again while chilling at the mall.

Les L.

Yelp
Several months after its grand opening, I made my way to Warabimochi Kamakura for mochi. It is located in the food court at the The Shops at Santa Anita and, thankfully, the unreasonably long lines are gone. I was able to walk up to the counter around dinner time and order two boxes of mochi with no wait whatsoever. The mochi is 5 pieces to a box and I ordered both flavors, original with kinako powder and matcha. Five pieces sounds like very little, but the soft, gelatinous mochis are really quite large. Each mochi is more like two bites. The warabi mochi is made of bracken starch and it is very delicate and light compared to regular rice mochi. The texture is almost silky. Both flavors come with squeeze bottles of brown sugar syrup and my family loved this style of mochi. It is less heavy and filling and if you like puddings and mochis, the texture will wow you. We preferred the original kinako coating to the matcha, because we are not big matcha fans. The shop also makes a variety of mochi drinks and I think they would be so drinkable in a refreshing beverage.

Christiana T.

Yelp
MUST TRY! If you love mochi and want a unique tasting experience. Fun fact: Traditional mochi is made from glutinous rice and warabimochi is made from bracken starch. Warabimochi is soft, chewy and has a jelly-like texture. It is generously covered in your choice of Kinako (roasted soy bean) or Matcha powder. It comes with a small bottle of Okinawan brown sugar, which has a deep earthy flavor and not too sweet. The bottle of brown sugar syrup is decently sized and more than enough. Most likely because the syrup does not really coat the warabimochi and slips off. They will be offering seasonal flavor warabimochi in chocolate with raspberry sauce. The warabimochi are sold in boxes of 5 piece (choice of one flavor) and 12 piece (two flavors - Kinako and Matcha). One box is good for 1-2 people. Both flavors are good, but if I had to pick then Kinako wins in my book. The Matcha tastes better with the brown sugar syrup to balance the bitterness. Drinks Matcha latte w/ mochi Strawberry Yogurt w/ mochi I thought the drinks were just okay. The matcha had some red bean which was a nice touch. The strawberry puree in the yogurt drink was tart. The warabimochi in the drinks were lovely. The drinks are pricey for the size and the whip cream melted away pretty quickly. Kamakura is located near the walkway between the stores and the food court at the Santa Anita mall. I have been there twice and both times there were little to no line. The mochi boxes are prepacked, so service was fast and friendly. All I had to wait for were the drinks, but even those came out fairly quickly.

Ralph S.

Yelp
Last week I walked by Warabimochi and I couldn't take my eyes of it. So a little digging and I couldn't wait to try it. I came by this Sunday afternoon and there was virtually no line! Food: I ordered the Mixed Warabimochi which came with 12 pieces and 2 flavors (Kinako and Matcha) along with Kuromitsu Syrup to top it off, I ordered their seasonal Strawberry Chocolate Mochi Drink. There is a few places where I would gush about a drink, but this certainly hit that sweet tooth right on the head. The chocolate and strawberries is always a solid combo and this didn't disappoint. Adding the mochi added that bit of extra texture. I wouldn't say it blew my mind out of the water, but the star of the show was absolutely the warabi mochi. As advertised, its incredibly soft and gooey. Dusted in that matcha and kinako, you can taste the flavors with every single piece. The syrup enhances the experience quite a bit, however, a negative point is the bottle that they give it to you in. I would suggest a bottle that has a nozzle so that you drizzle a little more finely onto the mochi, as mine decided to dump all over it. Located in the food court, I highly recommending picking it up for desert and walking over and grabbing a seat outside in the courtyard area if able. It is best enjoyed the day you buy it.

Yelp
Warabimochi Kamakura in ARCADIA KAMAKURA "Blended rare Japanese bracken starch with a secret recipe from Kamakura in Japan, unique, chewy texture and a melt-in-your-mouth smoothness that are typically difficult to combine." Personally I found this taste of the mochi to be a lot less sweet and dense as the mochi from Japan I am used to in LITTLE TOKYO LA. It's clear color inside and super light flavor but interesting texture more jelly like imo. I think it tastes more refreshing and less filling than heavier mochi that is usually sweeter. I give this place 8/10 worth trying for sure Long wait but worth the hype. Good service. Follow me for more foodie adventures -LIVING WITH LUCI

Yelp
I've been seeing this spot pop up all over socials, so I decided to check it out. Came around 7 PM, and luckily there was no line. Went with the original warabimochi since it seemed like the classic choice. The mochi was handed to me immediately, so I'm guessing it's pre-made and pre-boxed. Texture-wise, the mochi was soft but not as chewy as I expected. The sesame powder was light flavorful, and they included a brown sugar syrup you can drizzle on for extra sweetness. It was decent, but I found it a bit pricey--almost $10 for 5 pieces. While I wouldn't mind having it again, it's not something I'd get often. For that price, there are other treats I'd rather spend on, to be honest.

Ashley H.

Yelp
We visited Warabimochi Kamasutra as a group and tried their famous warabi mochi. The mochi was incredibly soft, tender, and had a delightful, nuanced flavor that felt both indulgent and nutritious. We also tried the milk and strawberry mochi drink, which was absolutely amazing--sweet, creamy, and refreshing! It's worth noting that we went during theirgrand opening, so everything was 50% off. However, the wait time was nearly 1.5 hours, which was quite long. While we thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the food, I'm not sure we'd wait that long again. If you can visit during a quieter time, it's definitely worth trying!

Moriah L.

Yelp
Found this cute little booth in the Santa Anita mall, close to the food court! I ordered the strawberry matcha latte and it was sooo good, the drink comes with whipped cream and the mochi topping! I was so impressed by the mochi toppings, it's a unique and flavorful additional that I've never tried before! The portion sizes are pretty small, I ordered the medium, but the flavor is soo good. The perfect amount of sweetness(: Definitely will come back again!

Tracy T.

Yelp
I got the regular 5 piece warabimochi and the matcha mochi drink and the total was a bit over $20 after tip I think. I heard about this place when it opened but I don't go to the mall that often so it slipped my mind until I went recently. There was no line at all and the items were received quickly. The mochi is quite soft and well made. I don't know if it's worth the price in my opinion, but I'm sure it must be expensive to staff and have a location in the mall. The matcha seemed pretty good quality and not too sweet.

Dianna H.

Yelp
So happy there's a spot in LA for warabimochi! It tastes just like Japan, but it is quite pricy so I'm only giving 4 stars. I've been obsessed with warabimochi ever since I discovered it a couple years ago on a trip to Japan. Ever since then, I get it in Japan every chance every time I go. Needless to say, I was super excited when I heard there was a spot opening up at the Shops at Santa Anita that would be making and serving it. Warabimochi Kamakura is located in the food court of the mall, not along the walls but in the middle. Google maps did a pretty job of guiding me to the stall. I stopped by Sunday evening around 7 pm and luckily both the original (with kinako / soy bean powder) and the matcha were available. I got a box of each, which comes with 5 pieces. The original goes for $8 a box, while the matcha goes for $9. The staff recommends eating them within 2 days, so it's definitely not something you should keep around for too long. They offer a variety of drinks as well, but I skipped those as I was here purely for the warabimochi. We took them home and ate them the next day. Both flavors were so good and tasted exactly like what I had in Japan. Super soft and chewy!! I preferred the matcha one more, but I just like matcha more than kinako so it comes down to personal preference. Each box comes with a small bottle of sweetener syrup, but we didn't use these at all as we felt the warabimochi was sweet enough on its own. Will be back next time I get warabimochi cravings :)

Stephanie C.

Yelp
Yum! I love sooooooft mochi. It was even soft the next day! There wasn't a line when we went. Small menu. Not a lot, so easy to order. Got the original mochi and yuzu lemonade. The cashier was so nice and she noticed my Japan Disney Tokyo sweatshirt and had a nice conversation. My mom used to make this mochi and had the powder too. Nice touch for the sweet sauce to be in a small, cute bottle! Located in the good court.

Fanny Z.

Yelp
I just came back from my recent trip to Japan and I was excited to see this type of mochi in America. Mostly I wanted to try and compare since I just came back and it was fresh in my memory. Obviously, it won't be as good as Japan but I would be happy to have something to satisfy my craving! Came during Saturday afternoon, right before closing, and the line was not too bad. It did get longer after we ordered. The only thing sold out was the matcha warabimochi so will need to come back to try. Got the 5 piece original warabimochi and the hojicha mochi drinks. The warabimochi itself was pretty good. You can taste how fresh it was and I love kinako so I like that there were a lot. The only thing I wished was it was in smaller pieces. The pieces were a bit too big for my liking as the ratio of mochi to kinako coverage was off. Too much mochi, not enough kinako so I cut them into smaller pieces and smothered them in the powder. I also did not like the syrup. There was no need in my opinion as it's perfect the way it is. The one thing I was surprised and liked the most was the mochi drink. It had good hojicha flavor and I loved the soft mochi in the drink. It was similar to drinking pudding in my boba but the warabimochi is way better than pudding. I'm happy there is something I can come to if I miss Japanese mochi !

Mickey H.

Yelp
First off, I'm shook I was able to order something this time. During my last two visits while shopping, I had no idea inventory was an issue nor did I realize you had to come early or else you won't get anything. Third time was a charm. I came on a Saturday afternoon around 11:30am and there was already a small line but it moved fairly quickly. The menu was updated to reflect only 5 pieces max for each flavor - original and matcha. You can double up on your order if you want more pieces but of course, that's a hefty price tag. I noticed from other's who uploaded photos in the past seems to show larger pieces and now they seem smaller, likely to manage inventory. After trying both flavors - original and mochi, they seem similar. Of course, the matcha one is more bitter but all and all they tasted the same. It came with extra liquid sugar that you can drizzle on top to make it sweeter. I like how the mochi is light and thin, not overly heavy compared to the korean versions. Now, does this taste like the ones I tried from Kyoto? Nopes, I prefer the actual mochis in Japan. The drinks though was really good. I would come back just for the Matcha mochi drink. It's a lot better than boba in my opinion. It's jelly-like consistency was easy to sip, and the unsweetened matcha flavor was perfect. It's soft and basically the same thing as getting the dried warabimochi but inserted in liquid form. It's a solid place to try once!

Connie K.

Yelp
The mochi is light (unlike the regular mochi that made with rice) the matcha flavor is a little bitter but two drops of liquid sugar will make it taste much better. I personally like the original flavor more! It is a little pricey cost you $19.99 for a small box. Worth to take a try!

J J.

Yelp
Was in the area & was intrigued. Tried the original 5 piece. Ok - looks ok - I know mochi! Taste it - NOOOOO I don't know ‍ mochi. Wow! the simplicity. How is this soooo good. Super soft. Right now I'm savoring last bite . Pricey but .

Thuy Dan T.

Yelp
Finally was able to try this spot in Santa Anita Mall and after the hype has died down, there was no line! We got the original flavor and a matcha latte. The matcha latte was pretty standard but I can see what other reviews expressed that the cup is quite small and has ic, a 5 sipper and the drink is gone. The mochi was very soft, but I think I actually prefer a little firmer texture after trying this version.

Andrea C.

Yelp
If you're in the mall, you HAVE to stop by this little desserts stand! It's located in the food court with plenty of seats around. The gals working at the stand were so nice. The warabimochi here is delicious with the perfect texture, soft and chewy. It's not too sweet, and they provide a separate pack of syrup on the side so you can add however much for your liking. I devoured the entire box and enjoyed it so much that I bought another box to bring home. My friend also tried their warabimochi with vanilla ice cream, and she was equally impressed. Come here and treat yourself--I'm definitely returning!

Yelp
Warabimochi Kamakura is a charming new addition to the Shops at Santa Anita Mall, located in the food court area across from Shoe Palace. Specializing in warabimochi, a traditional Japanese dessert, the stand offers a delightful cultural experience with a modern touch. Warabimochi, made from bracken starch, water, and sugar, has a soft texture. The stand offers a variety of options, with their original warabimochi priced at $8 for five pieces. While this might seem steep for mochi, the portions are generously sized. Each piece is coated in roasted soybean powder (kinako), giving it a nutty flavor that may not appeal to everyone. While I found the soybean powder overpowering, the mochi itself was a standout--delicately sweet, smooth, and chewy. For those who prefer more sweetness, the dessert is accompanied by a small bottle of syrup to drizzle over the mochi. The presentation is impressive, with the mochi packed neatly in a sleek box, complete with a convenient to-go bag. The packaging design is thoughtful--the detachable lid can double as an extra serving plate for sharing. However, the experience can get a bit sticky, so it's wise to request napkins, as they weren't provided by default when I was there. In addition to their mochi offerings, they also serve drinks, though I didn't get the chance to try them. The stand itself exudes a minimalist Japanese aesthetic, with clean wood details that evoke the feel of a traditional Japanese dessert shop. Its polished appearance and warm ambiance make it stand out in the bustling food court. Overall, while the price might be a bit high, Warabimochi Kamakura offers a unique and flavorful treat. It's a great spot for those wanting to try authentic Japanese desserts, especially if you're already exploring the mall.

Yelp
Came here during the first week of grand opening where they had the 50% off special. On a weekday I had waited about 1hr 15 mins so if it was the weekend I'm sure the wait was a lot longer. Most items were already sold out, so when I got there it was only the 5 pc original flavor left and I also ordered the hojicha latte with mochi. The mochi was really good even I couldn't finish so saved it for the next day and it was still very soft and fresh. The hojicha latte was delicious as well expect I think I didn't stir or mix the mochi enough so it clogged up my straw so it was very difficult to drink it. Overall it's very delicious and I'd want to try the matcha mochi next time, but without the 50% discount it is a hefty price indeed

Yelp
Really enjoyed what we got! It definitely lived up to the expectation and hype. First off, I want to say if you haven't been to Tokyo or Japan yet you may not quite grasp why people like this or might be willing to pay for this but it is due to the quality and texture of the mochi. I really enjoyed the Vanilla Ice Cream Mochi and strawberry milk drink and am really eager to try the matcha and hojicha drink with mochi next!

Yelp
My sibling took me here after they heard about the place. I'm not the biggest fan to be honest esp with the yelp ratings that I saw. We ordered the matcha warabimochi and matcha mochi drink. The mochi is good. Soft, not sweet. You can add the syrup on top of you'd like. The only down side is it's pretty expensive since it's $10 with tax. The matcha drink is good. It's quite sweet of you drink the mochi part. The size of it is small though. Overall rating: 3.5/5 The place is located at the food court. I guess if I'm really craving for sweets, I might consider going back.

Yelp
When I saw the word Mochi, I had to stop and try it out. I grew up eating mochigashi. I frequent Japanese grocery stores just to buy daifuku (mochi filled with red bean paste). Before I ordered, I checked out the Yelp reviews. Based upon the numerous reviews regarding the Warabimochi being sold out, I had to try it out. I was fortunate that the line was not very long. I asked if I could have whatever it was on the a frame sign. She went out to take a look at what I was talking about, and it was the Warabimochi with kuromitsu syrup (Okinawan brown sugar syrup). She was very nice in explaining that the Kinako is roasted soybean flour. I should have taken a picture of my Warabimochi as soon as I received it, because when I got home they weren't as pretty. They tasted much better than they looked. I can't understand the negative reviews regarding the Warabimochi. It is the best mochi that I have ever had. It deliciusly melted in my mouth. I tried it without the brown sugar syrup, and It really didn't need the syrup. I took a small teaspoon full with a drop of brown sugar, and it gave a nice hint of brown sugar to the Warabimochi. Then I tried it with numerous drops of the brown sugar syrup, and it reminded me of the brown sugar boba ice cream bars but much better. I'm looking forward to ordering one of their drinks with Warabimochi.

Yelp
Really glad to have a new Asian desert spot at the mall - I really love the flavor and the texture of the Warabi mochi, but I think that the price is on the higher end for what it is. I also wish that there was an option to get smaller portions to try both flavors, as when I went, there were only options to get a large box of each flavor. Overall, I think it's worth a try, but I don't know if I will be getting this dessert often. Food: 4.5/5 Price: 3.5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: N/A - mall food court

Yelp
Though the warabimochi was as good as what we'd find in Japan, the line definitely wasn't worth it. We waited over an hour and 45 mins during their grand opening. A very limited menu and restriction of just 5 pieces per person. Also ordered the matcha and hojicha mochi drinks which tasted very watered down. Sweetness came from the mochi and once you finished that, the drink was pretty much flavor less. May come back to try the matcha warabimochi which wasn't offered the first week but only if there isn't a line.

Yelp
3 stars As well-known as warabimochi is in Japan, I hazard a guess that this little shop is the 1st of it's kind in this part of town. Sure, we have mochi, ice cream mochi, & even hakka mochi, but warabimochi isn't one I've seen in Arcadia, yet. So, during grand opening week, I stopped by and was horrified to find a 2-hr line waiting for us...so I ended up skipping it because they were out of the mochi already. Frankly, a lot was crossed out on the menu, so I waited until today to purchase. I bought the 5-pc. Original Warabimochi for $8. It came in a small, white box with a minimalistic design. Upon opening, you see 5 blobs dusted in sawdust-colored powder. I tried a piece before drizzling on the brown sugar syrup. And, I do think 5 pieces is more than enough for 2 people because of it's sweetness. The sweetness definitely grows with every bite, but the texture is something I'd have to get to used to. It's not a bad experience, but I can't recommend this to anyone who isn't already a fan of mochi. If you're a texture-person, this may or may not be for you as it is more slime-like. The bean powder dusted on top will definitely dry your mouth...just try not to inhale it cause it's uncomfortable. I think I'll stick to the drinks in the future.

Yelp
We were really excited to try this place finally! While I don't think the texture of warabimochi is for everyone, we really liked it! The mochi is super soft and delicately sweet. The flavored powders complemented well. We liked the matcha one more than the regular because of the added bitterness that offset the sweetness of the mochi better. We did try both with the brown sugar syrup, but we preferred it without it. As for the mochi drinks, I'm glad I tried them, but I felt the mochi was too sweet. I'd probably skip the mochi type drink next time and just get the regular or go elsewhere for the drink (they sell hojicha and matcha lattes at Churnt next door). The tea flavor itself is good though. Also to note, we got here at 1pm and the 10 piece boxes were already sold out, they're more affordable per piece, but I do think 10 pieces is a lot for 2 people if we had gotten two boxes of them. 2 of the 5 piece boxes was the perfect amount for a small snack in the mall. Also be warned the box has a separate, not connected, lid! I'd definitely get this again if I had a craving. It's nice Santa Anita mall has a unique offering like this. Nice place to stop by while you're shopping. Parking is always easy.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this brand in Japan and it was very memorable, so naturally I was so excited to see that they opened a spot in LA!! Since I tried the strawberry yogurt the last round, I opted for the strawberry matcha latte mochi drink...and needless to say, I was so disappointed :( Taste: Make sure to give it a good mix, but the mochi and strawberry syrup were WAY TOO sweet. I had to resort to watering it down because it was to the point where I felt it was inedible; and because I added water, the watery drink became even more thin. It definitely has SO MUCH potential if they just make this specific drink like 50%-75% less sweet. Prices: $8 for this large drink is a pretty sweet deal these days, especially when boba is so expensive. Overall, hope they will incorporate some feedback and have the option for less sweet (and maybe they do but they just didn't ask me). Might opt for the yogurt drink next time with less strawberry puree for less sweetness.

Yelp
Just got back from Japan and spotted a new Japanese dessert booth at Arcadia Mall, so I had to give it a try! Just a disclaimer that I am a big fan of desserts, but Warabimochi didn't quite do it for me. [Food: 1/5] I ordered the 5-piece Warabimochi and a matcha latte with mochi. The mochi's texture was nice, but it was way too sweet for my taste. There was also an overwhelming amount of sesame powder, which made it dry. Adding the syrup only made it sweeter, and I couldn't finish it. The matcha latte itself was unsweetened and tasted good, but the mochi at the bottom made it difficult to enjoy the drink fully. [Service: 5/5] There was surprisingly no line when I went. And the staff were super friendly. They took the time to explain the menu to me and recommended me what to get since it was my first time. [Ambiance: 3/5] It's a small booth located in the food court, right in front of Zumiez and Hollister. It might be helpful to offer different sweetness levels for the syrup or powder. This could make the dessert more customizable for people who prefer a lighter sweetness or less sesame powder. Overall, I can see this being a hit with people who have a sweet tooth, but it wasn't for me.

Yelp
This Warabimochi Kamakura location is the first to open in the US, opened towards the end of October, and is located on the first floor of the Arcadia Mall (The Shops at Santa Anita), by the food court, in front of Daniel's Jewelers. For those that are not aware, warabi mochi is a chewy, jelly like mochi that is traditionally coated with nutty roasted soybean flour and drizzled with kuromitsu syrup (a browm sugar syrup that is similar in color to molasses but thinner and not as sweet. My husband and I decided to come out the week after their opening. We came on a Tuesday and got in line around 10:05 am (yes there were already people ahead of us waiting in line). Total we waited about 80 minutes in line (although we only waited 18 minutes to order once they opened at 11 am and then another 5 minutes for our order to be ready). Why were people waiting in line so early? This new business was giving 50% off. Anyways, when it was our turn to order, we ended up getting: Warabimochi, 5 pieces, $8 prior to tax- I ordered 2 of the 5 piece sets. It was dusted with roasted soybean flour. We were given a small bottle of kuromitsu syrup in a small plastic bottle (two since I had two orders). My husband and I decided to share one box, as we sat at a small table nearby. I really loved the soft chew of the mochi and found the flavoring to be the right sweetness, even without the kuromitsu syrup. But the syrup is also a nice added touch, that doesn't over power the mochi and does not make it too sweet either. The pieces were also pretty large, even though we got an order of 5 pieces (but have read in recent Yelp reviews that it seems that the pieces are smaller now). My mom also liked the mochi (the second box I purchased was for her). But I do want to mention that you should be careful not to choke as the soybean flour may get in your throat. Warabimochi Hojicha, Large, $7.24 prior to tax- We both decided to order this drink. I really loved the flavor of this drink. For those that may not be familiar with hojicha, they are roasted green tea leaves that has an earthy and mild taste, much different from regular green tea (in which traditionally tea leaves are typically steamed). It was nice to try something different with warabimochi in my drink instead of mochi, but did remind me of the similar texture of boba. I really like this combination. But my husband had a piece of tin foil in his drink. Another Yelp member had also mentioned the same (on the same day we had visited). I think the mochi made most likely was wrapped in tin foil that as the employees were peeling away the tin foil, they may have missed a few small shards/ pieces of it sticking to the mochi. This is definitely a choking hazard and am at least glad my husband was able to detect the tin foil and not swallow it (if it was my mom, I feel she may have just swallowed the piece, as she as not as careful and observant). Because of this, I had to lower my rating of our experience. ---------------------------- (Total= $16.80 after tax + 50% opening special) Price point I think is pretty fair, even at full price (but of course it was nice that I was able to take advantage of the 50% discount special). I do like the warabi mochi but I am not sure if I will be back. I think I would be reminded of the tin foil incident and may be better off just making warabi mochi at home on my own (which honestly is not that hard to do).

Yelp
On a weekday afternoon there was no line. I felt like for the pricing the drinks looked small but it is a hailed brand from Japan right?! I ended up getting what they are known for their OG Mochi. It's a box of 5 pieces of mochi dusted in nut flour for 8 dollars. Whew! A hefty price. It comes with a small bottle of syrup which I thought was necessary otherwise the mochi could feel too dry. The mochi is very smooth, slightly chewy and the powder very very fine around it. There is finesse but for the price it fell short to me. I don't know what more I can expect though. The staff was friendly and said they put the same mochi in their drinks. Maybe i should try a matcha or Hojicha tea with the mochi next time. Seating is at the mall food court. Not the most ambiance but ok, it works.

Yelp
It wasn't anything wowwing. Im more used to the ice cream mochi texture in Little Tokyo. This tasted bland and gelatinous. I am not sure if l "missed" something. The staff however was nice.

Cydia N.

Yelp
Okay! I like the mochi but I LOVED their drinks even more. I ordered hojicha latte with a regular warabimochi and it was delicious. The taste of the latte was rich. I highly recommend getting their drinks

Yelp
I did not know that Santa Anita mall had a new Matcha place! We were walking around this place caught my eye! I'm a sucker for visually appealing stalls LOL so i love vibe this place was giving me. We came on a Friday night, not to busy so my order came out pretty quick. I ordered the Matcha Latte and WOW. I was NOT expecting mochi in my drink! I thought it was only the matcha latte! So this was a pleasant surprise for me! The sweetness level was perfect! I normally have to adjust the sweetness level but with this I didn't need to! BECAREFUL when you order this drink! The mochi is so soft that if you drink this to fast, YOU CAN CHOKE. I almost did a few times. The mochi has a soft and slippery consistency so it's just gonna go down your throat but since it's a little screechy (think cheese pull) that it's going down your throat but a part of it is still in your straw! So be sure to use your lips or teeth to break it part as your drinking this so you don't waste this drink! This drink is a bit pricy, I got the medium which was about $7ish and the sizing is pretty small (compared to other boba shop sizes) There were a lot of employee behind the register so I'm thinking this is to help combat the lines when they get long - I haven't been here enough to see how long it gets but I can see it being a fan favorite!

Yelp
I didn't even consider coming here for the 50% grand opening promo knowing how crazy the lines would be. I value my time more than waiting in line 2-3 hours for a few bucks off. So I came on a regular Saturday morning at 10:30am. Tag teaming with my husband the hour went by quickly as we took turn having brunch around the food court. Hey team work right? At 11:30am we finally were able to purchase 2 boxes for each person along with 2 Hojicha lattes. Our order was ready about 10 minutes later. The mochi is super soft, almost jelly like, and absolutely delicious. I enjoyed both the regular and the matcha mochi. Be careful as they do overly put the kinako powder, do not inhale the same time as you eat or else there's a chance of choking. (Real experience from a family member). The mochis in the latte were a nice touch and better than any boba drink I've had. We shared our extra boxes with family and friends and everyone gave thumbs up. Note the mochi were still fresh and soft one day later. TBH, glad I got to tried it, but I probably won't come back til the hype dies down and the line is more manageable -maybe around 10 minutes.

Yelp
The first location in the US has opened, and yes, lines are crazy long - think amusement park attraction lines. Arrived around 10:30am on Sunday before they opened and there was already quite a line, but it got even longer. Once they opened at 11am, it took us about 45 minutes to get to the front of the line and order. Currently, there is a grand opening promotion of 50% off until 11/6 but there is a limited menu, with one 5pc box limit per person for the warabi mochi. Staff was patient and courteous despite managing the hoard of people, and the wait to get your items once you order wasn't as bad. The entire wait time ended being around 1.5-2 hours. Our group of 3 ordered 3 5pc boxes, a small hojicha mochi drink, and a small matcha mochi drink. There are tables off to the side to eat at as part of the food court but most take it to-go. The packaging is simple but sleek, and the warabi mochi was really good (although I don't think I'd wait more than half an hour for it again). I found the mochi sweet enough by itself, but it does come with a cute brown sugar syrup bottle to add to your preference. The hojicha wasn't the best I've had, but the drinkable mochi was good and added some sweetness to the drink. Overall, the warabi mochi definitely shines and is worth a try, although I'd wait for the lines to die down a bit. They've been selling out before their closing hour so if you are willing to brave the line, be sure to arrive early! Would love to try their matcha warabi mochi once they have their full menu!
