Best Filipino Restaurants in Austin | Eater Austin

"Nestled in Round Rock, Texas, over 8,400 miles east of Manila and 2,000 miles west of San Juan, Puerto Rico, is a food truck that offers an eclectic mix of the two island cuisines. Yammy’s Filipino Letchon blends Filipino and Puerto Rican fare, offering beef- or pork-filled empanadas,; Yammy’s take on a Spanish-style lechon, a slow-cooked, crispy-skinned suckling pig served with rice, and lumpia, or Filipino-style egg rolls. Like many slow-roasted meats, the lechon, Yammy’s pork barbecue skewers, and grilled chicken inasal are comforting and taste like home, even if it’s your first time trying them. With a shaded wooden deck, diners can savor smoked meat without the long lines typically associated with Texas barbecue." - Clara Wang

Every time my parents visit, we try to find authentic Filipino food somewhere. I'm glad to finally have found it so near to my home. We went for our first time, and it was super super hot. My mother was having a tough time. They were super nice, pointing out a small bench where my mom could take a seat in the shade and even gave my mom a cold buko juice while we waited for our order. Sobrang bait naman yung mga tao dito. And when I mentioned we wanted to change our order to to go because my mom was having too hard a time with the heat, she even walked my mom and I to the car to make sure she was okay. Everyone was just so warm and welcoming. It was a short drive home. The portions are generous, the right ratio of rice to main (ulam). We ordered #1 combo, lechon combo, pakbet, lumpiang shanghai, empanadas, and halo-halo. Each combo comes with rice and 3 pieces of lumpiang shanghai. The #1 combo is 4 bbq skewers (choice of chicken or pork). I chose the pork bbq. The sauce was good and it tasted authentic to me (Fil-Am US born and raised), but I did find a few pieces to be kind of tough. Overall, though it was super good. Lechon combo: my dad ordered this and he felt that it was also authentic but that he wished the skin had been crispier. Not sure if it was because we had the take out boxes closed up while we drove back, so ymmv if you eat it there. Pakbet: this was not a combo and did not come with rice, but my mom really liked it. She did wish there was a little more sauce, but other than that, again, everything was authentic and delicious. The halo halo was good, but also melted by the time we got home because of the extreme heat. The empanadas I saved for last because they were explicitly Puerto Rican style empanadas instead of Filipino style, so they had a completely different flavor profile, which I was warned about when I ordered. I ate them and the special sauce with them and thought they were delicious. Very savory, reminded me a bit of tacos and a spicier, fuller bodied thousand island sauce. Overall, I will definitely come back again. Thank you very much, Yammy's!

I was really looking forward to trying this Filipino food truck after seeing how active and popular they are on Facebook. Since we were in the area, I checked their page for opening hours and we came early, waiting until 1:30 PM. A lot of people were arriving too, which made me even more excited to finally try it. I ordered quite a bit based on my cravings—Combo Menu #8 (Chicken Inasal with pancit), 5 Pork BBQ sticks, and 1 lb. of Pork Letchon. Unfortunately, the food didn’t quite meet our expectations. The Chicken Inasal tasted a bit bland and dry, and the Letchon was more fat than meat, tough to bite into, and not crispy like we had hoped. I also felt a little confused by the receipt it wasn’t very clear, especially considering the amount we spent. It just left me wishing for more transparency. I really wanted to love this place because I can see the passion they have and the support they get from the community. Maybe it was just an off day, but sadly, our experience didn’t quite live up to the hype. I hope they continue to improve, and I’d still be open to trying them again in the future.

I absolutely love Yammy’s Filipino Letchon! Even though we live in Temple, we always make the drive whenever I’m craving authentic Filipino food—it’s that good. The owner is incredibly friendly and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. The photos doesn’t give justice to how the food tasted.

The egg rolls/lumpia is really good. My kids and I think it’s the best in the area. Doesn’t have that sour taste like some places. I got this pork hock/feet stew I don’t know what it’s called but it’s so good and melts in your mouth. Has lemongrass and just a hint of spice. The rice I agree is over cooked otherwise this meal would have been perfect. I will definitely come back for more egg rolls and try some other specials.

I am so happy to find authentic Filipino food that tastes just like the way my friend’s mom used to cook it!! Although I’m not Filipino, I can always taste the love and time that goes into the cooking. Definitely makes me miss my friends back in Florida more. Anyway the food was delicious!! I can’t wait to come back :)

It had been a while since I last enjoyed an authentic traditional Filipino meal, and this one did not disappoint! The Maís con Yelo was absolutely delightful—refreshing and perfect for a warm, sunny afternoon. The Monggo with Malunggong truly hit the spot, bringing back memories of comforting home-cooked meals. We also indulged in Palabok, Lechon Kawali, and Tapsilog—classic favorites that reminded me of my go-to dishes back in college. From the excellent service to the cozy ambiance and exceptional food quality, the entire experience was a solid 10/10. Next time I will come early so I won't miss out on their Fresh Lumpia and Halo-halo!

It’s always refreshing to find a Filipino food spot in Austin and this very well may be the best! It truly tastes like home. We got a lechon combo and a pork bbq combo and we both agree that both items were perfect. The skin of the lechon is so crispy, but not too hard. The meat was tender and perfectly seasoned. The bbq pork was so tasty with a nice char and sweetness to it. The lumpia tasted like my mom’s. And the rice was cooked perfectly. It’s pretty far for me, but I’d definitely make the drive again. There was a bit of a wait so please be patient as the food is fresh and very much worth it.

Recently tried this place out and did not know how close they were to my house! When we got there we were greeted right away and owner was very friendly. First off, we ordered Chicken Inasal with pancit and lumpia (filipino eggrolls). IT WAS SO GOOD. The marinade tastes exactly like it would in the philippines especially with the chicken oil. We also tried their Chicken empanadas which was great again. Of course you have to get the Halo-Halo! We were very impressed with the generous amount of stuff they put on there. Unlike other places. We also love how affordable it is. We’d definitely be back and have already told friends about this place!!

Yelp
Had the Filipino egg rolls and they were good. Ordered two servings and they come with sweet and sour sauce. Their grilled meats smell delicious, will get next time.

Yelp
Lechon tasted delicious, I can tell it's cooked the traditional way. Pancit palabok is good too, there's so much in one serving. Halo-halo crushed ice can be improved (it was big chunk) but it tasted good. Friendly staff. Definitely will come back.

Yelp
We ventured out to RR/pflugerville from southwest Austin to visit Yammy's. They are quite good and prices are affordable for the portion and details for each dish! My partner is Filipino and craves these classic dishes frequently. Yammys is a small food truck in this park area. They have a covered seating area and seem to have some Puerto Rican influence, there was both a Filipino flag and PR flag on their truck. Seems like They were offer a variety of different items each day and open between 12:30pm and 1:30pm. The sisig was good and garlicky! There was a lot of pig ear pieces. I like the crunchy texture combined with very soft rice. 3 lumpia Shanghai comes with the combo. I will order these as an appetizer next time! They are very good. The lechon was sold in a whole solid piece at $15/pound. It was cut up so we couldn't eat it until we got home. My take on this item is It's very fatty, considering it is pork belly. lol I wasn't a huge fan of it but you can taste all the herbs that went into the marinade and seasoning process. This was well prepared and roasted. I just prefer lechon kawali (deep fried) over liempo. Overall we liked them! And will return if we're close by! Sarap!

Yelp
I arrived after work and had to wait about 20-30 minutes for our food. Honestly, I would be willing to wait even longer because this is some of the best Filipino food I've had, especially in the Austin area. The lechon is thick and meaty, while the pork BBQ is delicious, featuring a sauce that's slightly sweet. The pork lumpia that comes with every meal is amazing and very crispy. There is also outdoor seating, mostly covered. I will definitely be coming back, and I highly recommend this place.
