"Yammy’s Letchon is one of the few places in the Austin area where you can get real lechon, cooked the low-and-slow way. Judging by the crowds that gather here each weekend, that fact is no secret. This small, family-run spot near the Round Rock/Hutto border is only open four days a week, which means you’ll either have to plan your visit around their limited hours or spend a Saturday standing in line behind a dozen other people also seeking roasted pork. The outdoor picnic tables fill up fast, and an order can easily require an hour wait during peak lunch hours. But that Styrofoam box packed full of tender meat is worth it. The rest of the menu reads like a greatest hits of Filipino comfort food—pancit, lumpia, and chicken inasal that all tastes like it’s come from someone’s home kitchen. But you’re here for lechon first and foremost. The skin is crispy, the meat is juicy, and the portions are big enough that you’ll likely have enough left over for a snack later. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary Food Rundown Pork BBQ Skewers They’re tender, smoky, and glazed in a sweet barbecue sauce that caramelizes beautifully around the edges. Don’t skip these. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary Lechon This is why you’re here. You can order just the pork belly (lechon kawali) or go for the full roasted pig, which is what we recommend. The meat is soft and flavorful, and the skin is thick, crunchy, and deeply satisfying. It’s hard to find better. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary Chicken Inasal The chicken is crispy and well seasoned, but a little bit dry. If it’s your first visit or you’re flying solo, skip this in favor of more pork. But if you’re ordering a spread for a group, it’s a solid addition. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary" - Nicolai McCrary
