"Established in 1942, this dim sum institution is on the touristy side, but it’s an experience you’d be remiss to skip. Go for the roast goose—it’s world-famous for a reason. Other signature dishes include sauteed frog's leg with bamboo shoots, steamed live fish in soya sauce, and charcoal-grilled barbecue meats prepared with longstanding family recipes: all in all, an elevated adventure in classic Cantonese cuisine."

Strings Owner Brings Hong Kong Cart Noodles to a Chinatown Favorite - Eater Chicago

"A Chinatown fixture has been revitalized with new ownership who’s brought back favorites such as Hong Kong cart noodles. For the last 24 years, diners have visited Ken Kee and ordered off a massive menu of favorites. The restaurant has occupied space at Chinatown Square since 1997. Over the years, the menu selections have dwindled as ownership grew closer to retirement." - Ashok Selvam

Roasted goose is crispy skin and juicy inside without odour. The fats is transparent golden colour which indicate the roast is well handled. I would usually prefer roasted meat plum/honey sauce but my favourite for this roasted goose is the peanut sauce which bring out the savoury taste of roasted goose. Braised soy bean at side is complement the dish. Rice noodle with scrambled eggs is surprised by firm and tender texture of scrambled eggs, wok hey and savoury taste without black sauce. We ordered century eggs followed reviews, and like it with the moist york and fermented ginger. Asked for chili padi and be awarded its HKD25. Service is good and waiters are polite, friendly and 热情~

We had a great dinner here! The whole goose was perfectly cooked crispy skin and flavorful meat. The chicken was also fantastic, juicy and well-seasoned. We ordered noodles and vegetables too, and everything was delicious and well executed. The Yang Chow fried rice was a bit on the dry side for my taste, but still tasty and paired well with the rest of the dishes. Overall, we really enjoyed the meal. Great flavors, good portions, and a solid dining experience. Definitely coming back!

Google
What an excellent recommendation by my friends living in Hong Kong. Easy to find, this restaurant is on Wellington Street, a short walk from the Mandarin Oriental in Central or IFC Mall. We dined as a group of four and had such a feast. Every dish was excellent including the famous roasted goose & pigeon as well as kid-friendly dishes like sweet & sour meat, char siew and eefu noodles. My favourites were the fish with fungus & vegetables, braised beancurd with egg white & crabmeat, and a fried snack with spices. Will certainly return with family.

Google
The duck was nice but not as good as compared to the other one down the street. Still worth the calories and comfortable environment unlike those squeezing michelin restaurant. The century egg is superb!

Ummm.. It was the best roasted goose in Hong Kong a couple years ago. Now I got not crispy skin, lots of bones and lots of fat. The service was still stellar as before. Nice ambiance. The quality of roasted goose a lot lower now... Sad

Felt like some Cantonese when I was in Central recently, so ended up at Yung Kee. Tried their Stir-fried Fresh Milk and Egg White with Pine Nut – it was delicate and done just right. Also had the Sauteed Garoupa Fillet with Ginkgo and Black Fungus, which was pretty decent, fish tasted fresh. Still a solid option if you're after classic Cantonese in that part of town.

Google
Best Roasted Goose in my life. The peanuts sauce was very good with this Goose. Century egg was very clean and duck sausage also key item here.

Google
The reputation of this restaurant is not like what it used to be. It's still a convenient restaurant with very nice ambiance to dine in Central. The roast goose and duck is good. I think their century eggs this time is a let down as the yolk is not runny. They also serve dim sum here. The atmosphere on the 1st floor is much better than the ground floor but I think a reservation is needed.

Yelp
Famous Roasted Goose 1/2 with its juicy sauce is always a good presentation and tasty delicious dish for Yung Kee restaurant located at Central HOng Kong!!! Mixture with all different vegetables will neutralise the grease of tasting too strong from the goose meats!! Sweetly soups from red bean n black sesame will be the perfection finishing the end of meal!!! Don't forget the beginning of red Ginger n duck egg will start the delicious meal!!! I think Yung Kee has been restructuring several times in their shop during a few decades and passing different generations of management... nowadays they have a very modern steps of services!!! FOH is very professional and servicing closely to each tables!!! You don't need to raise your hand for any requests, the servers will be there to fulfill teas, ices, clean tables, serving desserts...etc. Great service overall and deserves a top rating!!! The atmosphere is so cleaning and width design with a higher ceiling classic Chinese modern restaurant!! You will feel like so comfortable to enjoy your meal in a fine dining!!

Yelp
Service is extremely bad. One of the waitress is very judgmental. Price is very expensive. It was late at night and we didn't want to spend 80 on water or having tea at night, so we just got one cup of water melon juice. The waitress immediately commented that we didn't order water or tea, it is none of the waitress' business that we didn't order tea or water. Avoid this place at all cost! Expensive and rude service.

Yelp
Haven't been to Yung Lee in awhile and the overall quality has gone down. Service is average. Better places for dim sum. Roasted good was good but not amazing

Yelp
Always an excellent dining experience at Yung Jee! Excellent food; excellent service. We came for dinner tonight and opted for their whole goose... so good! Another highlight was their "Old Fire Soup".. meaning, the soup has been long broiled for hours to extract out the essence and supreme flavors of ingredients... and tonight's supreme soup is Herbs & Fish supreme soup. It is sooo good and is definitely an unexpected & very pleasant highlight of the meal. Another significant find is Yung Kee's award winning appetizer dish: Tofu Skin Roll w Fish Roe. Sophisticated flavors with perfectly flavored fish roe with a taste of a touch of the sea... it is very flavorful and refreshing at the same time. Excellent dish. Overall excellent service and nice ambience at the restaurant. Try to opt for the 2nd floor if you can - it has the old HK classic look of the 80s... old color combo, the dragon and phoenix columns that you don't see much these days anymore. Always an awesome experience dining at Yung Kee!

Yelp
Excellent service with fine food. Very beautiful restaurant. Had the roast goose that was wonderful as was the chicken feet. Everyone also loved the fried rice.

Yelp
Unfortunately, we visited during a Signal Number 8 typhoon but Yung Kee was still open for business! I'm not sure if they're normally this empty but we were seated immediately on the second floor. The service is so attentive to the customers...they would walk us to the elevators and bathrooms. I've read that Yung Kee is most known for their roast goose and be warned, this is a fancier restaurant so you'll be paying a premium compared to some local BBQ shops. Premium Barbequed Pork Belly: This is just a completely different dish compared to char siu at local eateries. The quality of the pork belly is really good. It is really fatty and the top layer is so caramelized to the point where it gets stuck in your teeth. But it's so good and because of how fatty it is, I'd have to eat it in portions or with rice to balance it out. Regular Signature Charcoal Roasted Goose: Regular size is a decent portion for two people, especially if you're ordering other things. The skin is super crispy and the meat was really juicy. Some parts were a little chewy but overall, very high quality goose meat. They pour a peanut sauce over it so make sure you tell them if you're allergic. A very delicious, but expensive meal. You can definitely get lower quality meat for cheaper and it'll taste amazing too so it's up to you if you have the budget. Credit cards accepted and the workers understand Mandarin and English!

Yelp
Quick service, easy, simple and the food is great. Perfect for late night eats before or after drinks and it's delicious. It's like an American diner but Chinese.

Yelp
The mainland tourist are back with a vengeance. I waited exactly and hour for a table. Make a reservation if you're coming as a group. This place has been here for as long as i can remember. The food is great. Depending on what you order, you can get out for HK$150 a head or HK$2,000 a head. Its up to you. They won't treat you any differently. But at the very lease, have the goose. Its their signature dish and it comes lots of different ways. A whole bird, 1/2 bird, on rice, etc. Just be prepared to wait.

Yelp
Excellent roast goose at this classic HK staple - plus the service is excellent and space is plenty! Hard to describe how great goose is - like duck but more savory and more lean, with a slightly smoky flavor with their preparation. The presentation is great too, with the whole goose laid out anatomically! Kids love it too. Plus after you eat you can enjoy the rest of the night out in Lan Kwai Fong.

Yelp
Food - 3.5 stars Service - 4 stars Atmosphere = 3.5 stars Yung Kee is an original restaurant that had been serving its signature charcoal goose for century and is well known in HK. It is a must try tourist attraction. Service is impeccable, food - somewhat overhyped and pricey. 1/2 goose is $50 USD. The goose - the server came out with the famous dish and toss the dressing over the goose. Wished they would have asked if we prefer the goose with gravy or on the side. skin could have been more crispier if the the gravy is set on the side. The skin is lightly crunchy and lean, as you chew into the goose, the texture is firm and meaty, a bit gamey to my palate, its tasted like a duck with less fat. The remaining orders were typical. Not sure if I would return, but would like to try the local goose for comparison.

Yelp
You think you want Chinese roast duck? No. It's roast goose you want. Have the concierge at your hotel make you a weekday lunch reservation, because it's packed with locals. A tiny lift will take you to one of 3 dining floors. Roast goose, 1000 year old egg, and sautés watercress are must items. The house fried rice is simple, but nothing like you have in the States.
google avatar

Manfred S.

Yelp
The goose is a must, but you'd better get some digestives. It is more greasy than Weihnachtsgans. We added a number of other dishes, ong choi, some root vegetable (don't remember the name), scallops, noddles and lots of beer. Everyone seemed happy, but digestion took a while. Given a choice, I still think that roasted duck wins over goose.

Yelp
This used to be my all time fave and must have whenever I'm in Hong Kong. Especially the roast goose, pigeon and egg tarts. Not sure what happened but the standards have dropped significantly. Probably won't come back again.

Yelp
Not sure if my taste bud changed or they changed chef? Other than the roast goose, nothing tasted as good as I remember. We usually come here for the wintermelon soup, it wasn't as tasty as I remember. Wonder if their ingredients r different this time around. The fish, beef, and veggies were either not good or standard. They do give u tons of desserts the end of the meal, I didn't really like any of them either .

Yelp
Oh how the mighty have fallen. I used to relish coming here for roast goose when I visited HK. My last trip, however, on Christmas was anything but a gift. It was definitely not worth the wait. The menu is quite extensive, ranging from their famous roast goose, to dim sum, to "vegan specialties". Who the heck comes here for "vegan specialties"? It's like someone ordering just a garden salad at Morton's. The roast goose was flavorful and had a nice layer of fat but the meat was too cold for my preference. Dim sum was okay...when it actually came. We waited at least 30 mins between the goose and when someone on wait staff finally realized that we were expecting more food. Service was dreadful; as if the wait staff is waiting for the final day and is just going through with the motions. We were there for a couple of hours, when it should've been a lot less. The dim sum wasn't too bad but nothing special. The har gao was pretty large and delicate. I couldn't bash on it too much. Probably the best offering was their beef tripe, as it was spicy and savory. Service brought this review down heavily. Prices don't justify the experience. The goose only kept it out of the 1-star range.

Yelp
Everyone who is looking at this review should really go to this classic Chinese Restaurant who specialises in BBQ Goose. They are closing their doors because the original owner passed on his legacy to his sons who just couldn't manage the restaurant together. Their food used to be amazing but ever since the family have been fighting, it hasn't been as good but still pretty good. As mentioned earlier, their bbq goose is amazingly good but you have to preorder when you make a booking. The skin is super crispy and quite thing and not too much fat. The preserved egg also makes for a nice start to any meal. Service is better than average and the location obviously is central to Hong Kong Island.

Yelp
Food: 4.0/5.0 Service: 3.0/5.0 Value: 2.0/5.0 Decor: 3.5/5.0 Overall: 3.5/5.0 The prices are high and the food is good but not that good. I don't have a burning desire to come back.

Yelp
arrived into hong kong after a delayed flight late in the evening. after dropping off our luggage at a nearby hotel, this was to be our last dinner in hong kong through high recommendation of a friend. i was looking forward to the roasted goose / bbq pork combo. but alas, when we arrived at yung kee around 10:30pm on a sunday night, we were informed that they were out of any pork. there was almost a miscommunication that they were out of the goose too, but luckily the floor manager was able to straighten that out. be aware that staff english was a bit limited, albeit attentive. in lieu of the pork, my friend and i tried the live grouper, which cost a pretty penny (according to the math probably around $100 USD). the grouper was moist and heavy with green onions (i had a hard time speaking with people afterwards), but nothing that really stood out. we also ordered the morning glory sauteed in garlic, and it was a good complement to the meat we tried at yung kee. overall, bummed we couldn't try the pork, but a decent, clean cantonese restaurant. get there early for the pork

Yelp
My relatives have been coming here for years, but when I went this time again during my visit back to Hong Kong, it's mediocre. We got the roast goose of course, and then I wanted wonton noodle soup but they ran out of wontons (it was about 7:30PM) so I got dumplings noodle soup instead. Got thousand year old egg, and a stir-fried beef noodle with gravy. We also got red bean soup for dessert, as well as cookie-like sweets and the crispy flour with honey. The goose was quite flavorless and a bit dry. The dumplings noodle soup was quite average, and the stir-fried beef noodle was difficult to separate as the noodles stuck together. The thousand year old egg was good though. It's also super expensive because of its Michelin star and awards, but honestly, this food can be found basically on the streets of Hong Kong for cheaper and about the same quality.

Yelp
In A Nutshell: -Located in the Central District & close to LKF, is the world-famous Yung Kee Restaurant. -Known for their Cantonese cuisine & roast duck, this restaurant is super-busy. -You still should be able to walk in & get seated in decent time. -My wife & I ordered 6 dishes: 1) Roast Duck Leg, 2) Century Egg w/ Ginger, 3) Crispy Roast Chicken, 4) Crab & Corn Soup, 5) Jellyfish Salad & 6) Crab Claw. -The food tasted very good, but nothing I felt should have made this place world-famous + I just wish the portions were bigger. -Wash it all down w/ Tsingtao Beer. Overall, the best Roast Duck I've ever had was in New York City's "Peking Duck House" the one located on Mott Street.

Yelp
Goose is what it's famous for. Tender. Chashu. Yums. Yums. Yums. Sticky rice. No go. Pork belly. Yeeeeeees. Chicken. Juicy. Sesame filled with black sesame ball. Nowhere else do they have this. Tastes so good. Just say yes.
google avatar

Yelp
Great local food. Must visit when you in Hong Kong. You will not disappoint. Especially the appetizer. BBQ roast pork. Goose. Omg. It's the best.
google avatar

Natalie K.

Yelp
The roast goose here is great. The BBQ pork is solid too. And the thousand year old eggs are amazing and possibly the best I've had. The problem with this restaurant though is that it is crazy overpriced for what you get. Yung Kee is supposed to be an institution in HK with families coming here for generations. We got a recommendation for this place from someone we met at a wedding there who's local. His family has been coming here for years and highly recommended it. We expected to pay good money for the roast goose, which we did. However, everything else is super expensive. The little vegetable dish we got was over $40USD and there was nothing special in it. The service is average at best. I recommend that you save your money and go somewhere that's more hole-in-the-wall.

Yelp
Finally got to vacation in Hong Kong and was so excited about the food here. I have heard lot about the concept of roasted goose and how Peking duck was so last year. So we ordered here being that it was their speciality. We initially we only going to order a 1/4 of the duck but the waiter insisted on us ordering half. WHAT. A. TOTAL. MISTAKE. The goose was really dry and the skin wasn't even crispy. It was served with his weird mung bean thing and the sauce probably was the best park of the meal. So we asked the manager if this is how the goose is supposed to take and he said that it is supposed to be tough. And then I asked why do you serve this to our guest and then he just responded with sorry sorry and offered us this wack ass dessert which was deep fried wonton skins with honey on top. I honestly wouldn't have been so angry with the restaurant if they didn't specifically recommend me to get half of the duck with more than 3/4 being tough and inedible. If you do really want to try this goose just get a quarter which jus includes the leg and try and get the left leg because apparently it's more juicy since the goose uses that leg less. I have no idea that works. We also got some stir fry veges which were decent and some tofu fish hotpot which was also decent. But I am so appalled at the goose entree. We barely touched it and the wait staff could tell that there was something wrong, but the manager didn't care. This place is overall way too over priced for the food. I don't think I have felt more cheated and I have spent at least a quarter million in student debt. But if you do have an inkling for goose there are way better places than this one. Would definitely avoid. I never thought I would write another one star review but damn this place deserves it for quality, price, and service. So many better options that HK has to offer.

Yelp
Went to Yung Kee on the recommendation of Hong Kong locals and was not disappointed by the food there. My friend and I ordered: The Roasted Goose, BBQ Pork, Eggplant with Crab Roe, and Fried Rice. (All of the dishes were extremely flavorful and tasty. And 4 dishes was more than enough food for the two of us.) Fear not travelers who have not exchanged their own currency for the HKD, the restaurant accepts Visas and Mastercards. They also have menus in English. Be prepared to wait for a table if you go during popular eating times; they also eventually run out of the popular dishes.

Yelp
Occasion: afternoon meat snack Food ordered: Roast goose and BBQ pork combo (HK$250) Review: Both goose and pork was of superb quality. Roast goose was well marinated and retains the perfect balance of meat and fat. The plum dipping sauce goes really well with the meat and elevated it to the next level! Roast BBQ pork was probly some of the best I've had! I have no other words than you must try it when you come here! One star off for the price! Yeah the portion was not big for HK$250! I guess you pay the extra for the nice decor too.

Yelp
This is my 2nd time at this airport and I didn't want the fast greasy food. Of course my stomach was ordering for me but this is what I think of Chinese food. Ok ok you are paying for the ambience and service but the food was ample. Try this place when at airport. Expensive in US dollars 56.00 for 2 dishes and a pot of tea. But hey as long as its not an everday occurance its all good.

Yelp
Famous for their goose/duck... we haaad to order it. The staple in all the travel shows and constant buzz. Also, it is very pricey compared to HK standards. So upon sitting, they give these dishes like peanuts, and some apps - you think it is free. They will not tell you. So of course, we ate it. So before you eat anything they hand to you without you ordering, ask BEFOREHAND. We found out when the bill arrived! So why do they do that.. who knows - maybe it is cultural? So just be forewarned... dont blame them because it could be something they're used to. So instead of being upset, just go with the flow. But godforbid they do that here in the US, hell would freeze. As for the goose - very yummy in flavor. Similar to roast duck but with more meat. Sort of like foie gras type of goose/duck, haha. Ordered other dishes, and they were fine. But again, the main event was the duck/goose, so be sure to order that! The bathrooms and entire restaurant was very clean, good service... it is just a higher end restaurant (but not the highest class) and it is fine either way. I give it 5 stars and definitely would be BACK.

Yelp
Great ambience, very good service. Perfect place to impress guests. Century egg 8/10. Not as good as I remembered. Roast goose 9/10. Almost perfect. Char Siu 6/10. Should not order again. Kai lan 7/10. Passable. Verdict: will return, mainly because it's impossible to entertain business clients at Kam's or Yat Lok. Must remember to book.

Yelp
It was all over the news in Singapore few months ago on this Iconic Roast Goose Restaurant of Hong Kong about the family feud that may set the company to closure if their descendants failed to reach an agreement. For those who are unaware of what was happening. The passing of the founder in 2004 had left his restaurant to the hands of his two sons, kinsen and Ronald. With Kinsen holding 45 per cent of the shares and Ronald holding 55 per cent, the former soon complained to the court that he was being blocked from running the business. With all the bitter wars going on, consumers who love the crisp juicy roast goose were all shaken by the news that Yung Kee may be gone for good. Sounded loud, impatient and aggressive in their culture by nature, the well dressed auntie in black asked us what we wanted as we were at their take away counter. We took a while to decide as it did not have option with just only roasted goose but goose with rice and in the end we ordered half a goose. The upscale restaurant was modernly decorated with staff smartly dressed up looking professional. Interior was beautifully furnished and looked grand. There were slight hiccups during the transaction as we were accused of not paying for the take away and it upset us with their hostile tones. Thereafter, they realized it was their mistake and toned down. We did not feel any comfort in the service and the thought of the news of the war between the siblings had surfaced in our minds. Take away portion was pretty well done with a microwavable container covered and wrapped with a paper printed with Yung Kee's Business Name. Honey roasted sesame and sweet prune sauce were given for the takeaway. The award winning goose that the world is raving about is in front of our eyes. Half a Roasted Goose costs 300 HKD (about $60 SGD). It's alluring fragrance and its blistering skin was our soft spot! With all the given condiments added, the 5 of us enjoyed the flavourful roasted goose in its crackling crispy skin holding the soft and tender flesh that once you have your teeth sink in, the juice starts oozing out. As we were finishing the roasted goose, there were braised soya beans revealed beneath. They were good stuff as those beans soaked up all the essential and flavours from the roasted goose Half Goose - 300 HKD Yung Kee's roasted goose has definitely live up to its name sake and it would be a loss if Yung Kee's business is sealed due to family feud. And it would be worst if the building was sold off as this Yung Kee's building has a hidden treasure that define their Famous Roasted Goose - a charcoal fired oven on Hong Kong Island. It would be lost even if they were to move into another place as their government no longer issues permits for such equipment. No doubt that Yung Kee has been there for a long time, it does not mean having their service standards compromised. Our visit would have better if staff have shown more professionalism.

Yelp
The food and service is great. Came here first time on a business trip. Their roast goose signature dish is tasty. Pair with Chinese water crest to balance the fatty goose; a great combination. The waiter was friendly and makes you feel at home.

Yelp
My family's go-to for a Chinese meal. The restaurant is known for its roast goose, a popular Cantonese dish that's relatively uncommon outside HK. We enjoyed the goose, which was tender and juicy but my personal favorites is actually the BBQ pork, which is the right balance of sweet and juicy here. Other dishes are what you would expect from a mid-upscale Chinese restaurant - solid veggies, tofu and seafood dishes.

Yelp
I've eaten in Yung Kee a few times, all of which I made reservations prior to coming. It's a very popular place and not exactly cheap or like the hole in the walls you can eat in. The servers can understand a bit of English. For this trip we ordered 1 whole goose, stir fried vegetables with minced salted egg fish, century egg and roasted pork belly. We we're with locals so we knew what to order. I really enjoyed the goose as it was juicy and cooked well. What I truly enjoyed were the veggies which had such a unique tastes and he roasted pork belly which was melt in your mouth! It was a treat to try the century egg with ginger that was a bit sweet and salty, great combination! Yung Kee never fails to provide the kind of Chinese food I am looking for. I would highly suggest trying this restaurant but make sure to set a side a budget for it.

Yelp
Food portion is not that big in relative to the price. They charge you extra per each ktaabox and for plastic bag if you get it for to go. Food was ok not great for an expensive meal
google avatar

Yelp
I usually go here every year to satisfy my roast goose craving. Their 干炒牛河 is also really good as well. Last December, I dropped by for lunch and ordered 伊麵 with roast goose. It was really juicy and crispy. I liked the side of plum sauce that comes with it too. Prices are a bit expensive.

Yelp
Not very good. Every other Hong Kong roast goose place I've tried is better. They served me a roast goose that was cold with rubbery, fat skin. The thousand year old egg and pickled pager ginger was good. They make it in house and the ingredients are sourced from their own farms, I was told. However, I was also told that the walk in diners eating on the ground floor is served the bad stuff while the good stuff is served to the VIPs dining on the upper floors. This is unacceptable. They should serve the exact same high quality stuff to all their diners or not serve anything at all. This is very unprofessional behavior. However, this explains why some reviewers give this place 5 stars while others give this place one or two stars. The restaurant was decorated tastefully and was very clean. Average Hong Kong waiter service, very quick and to the point. I would not recommend that you come here. Maxim's, Kam's roasted goose, and Victoria Harbour Roasted Goose Seafood Restaurant are all better than Yung Kee. I would recommend that you go to Kam's Roasted Goose (甘牌燒鵝 ) Instead. Kam's serves the same high quality roasted goose to everybody, every time. I went there 3 times in one week!

Yelp
Starting from a modest cooked food stall, Yung Kee Restaurant is now developed into a renowned Chinese restaurant served Guangdong cuisine. For that, Yung Kee's Roast Goose is nicknamed "Flying Roast Goose". Follow me for more awesome post of Hong Kong & welcome everybody to ask me questions about Hong Kong.

Yelp
This place is a really fancy and expensive place. It would have been 3 stars, but for that roast geese wow it gets another star. That was an excellent dish and definitely deserving of the hype. It definitely tasted close to duck, but had it's own differences and a great light sauce provided with it. Too expensive in my opinion, but that roast geese really makes me question that a bit...Service was ok...
google avatar

Brooke T.

Yelp
This restaurant is quite expensive, but the food is delicious, the service is good, and the restaurant is quite clean. I really enjoyed the grouper and vegetables. The noodles with crab meat were also very good, and my family thought the roast goose was excellent (although I didn't try that one myself). Overall, this seems like a very good choice for a special dinner.

Yelp
Been on a roast goose kick as of late ever since a friend took me to a place in Sham Tsang that specialized in roast goose and thought I'd give Yung Kee another try. I used to work not far from here and have had several meals here. Frankly I don't know what the big deal is. The roasting was decent but the meat was tough. I recalled not being happy with the individual portion in the past (all skin & bones) so I ordered a half a goose with the the expectation that there would be good pieces. I was quite disappointed. The breast meat was tough, even sinewy. The rest of the goose was also mediocre. No way can it compare to the roast goose I had in Sham Tseng. This place may have been good in the past, but I think they're just resting on their laurels now. Google Roast Duck SCMP and you'll find an article that details the top 5 roast goose restaurants in Hong Kong. I'd give the others a try but no way will I be going back to Yung Kee.

Yelp
Been here a few times and have never left unhappy. Usually order the roast goose, suckling pig and usually a few other items: greens, noodles etc. To me this is the quintessential Chinese restaurant atmosphere. Big, multiple floors, tons of employees , lots of commotion etc. I really enjoy coming here.

Yelp
We always go to have the goose when we arrived in Hong Kong. It is a good place to eat with a good price. If the service is consistent that will be a five stars restaurant. Try the goose and hope you have a smile with your meal.

Yelp
Heads up from the locals. This place offers tiered experiences. If you're not considered important, they offer you mediocre preparations. Heard it can get pretty bad.

Yelp
Apparently this place is known for being one of the only places that still roasts their goose with charcoal, and let me tell you, the skin of their goose tastes phenomenal. Unfortunately, the skin is basically all I got to taste as my piece of goose was 80% bone. The bbq pork I was forced to accompany my goose with (they were out of every other meat at 9pm on a Friday, I had tried ordering suckling pig) was totally dry. I was also talked into some very mediocre steamed vegetables with garlic that pushed my one person bill of a beer, tea, said veggies, the roasted meats, and a small bowl of rice to 464 HKD or 60 USD. Was my meal worth that? 150% no. And I'm not afraid to spend good amounts of money on good food. This place seems to cater to wealthy Hong Kong families/tourists (the tables around me clearly had "the help" sitting with them, were wealthy business men from overseas, or were with their sugar daddy that had a watch worth more than I'll probably ever make in a year). Basically what I mean by that, is that certain people automatically think price = quality, and that's the client this restaurant draws and thrives off. The most expensive restaurant has to be the best... right?!?! That being said, the service wasn't fantastic and was kind of a BS front (a food runner brings your food to the table covered by a plastic tray to keep in the heat, which your server over dramatically unveils and sets on your table). Also, they are very well versed in essentially demanding westerners into what they think they should order, and not giving options to their true and full menu which is actually super extensive. I watched the table next to me be forced into only goose (by that time they didn't even have pork) and again some dumb vegetable that's extremely overpriced for what it is. Meanwhile, a nearby table of young Hong Kongers enjoyed multiple courses of delicious looking items I nor any of the western tables around me were suggested. So, if you want an overhyped, way way way too expensive meal, come here. If you want actually good food, and the best roast pork and bbq pork, and roast goose with actual meat on it (you won't miss the charcoal) walk a few blocks and go to Yat Lok. The pork is moist and delicious, and you can have a better meal for less than 120 HKD or 15 USD. I won't be back.

Yelp
A craving for goose led me to this branch in a food court at the hidden end of HK airport. The roast goose is good, but is it worth eating in a pretty sad corner of the airport and enduring the grumpy service?

Yelp
Wonderful roast goose. There are restaurants in Hong Kong where the roast goose is cheaper, and some places where it may be as good, but there is no place that is better.

Yelp
I visited Yung Kee a few years back when we visited HK , food was very tasty although it was a bit overpriced, but I didn't mind it since I really enjoyed the roasted goose here. We just came back to Hong Kong for Chinese New Year so we came back to Yung Kee, but this time we were a bit disappointed . Their service has gone down hill. They weren't very attentive , given they charge you a lot ... I ordered a small plate of roasted goose and they gave me a plate of very little meat and the rest was all bones. I am not sure if I will come back here again.
