"An intimate six-tent, unfenced canvas camp on the Mara River in the Lamai Wedge of northern Serengeti National Park, offering a remote Serengeti experience with only a wisp of canvas separating guests from the savanna. Tents feature shaded river-view decks, king-size beds with mosquito netting, outdoor showers and bathtubs, large fans (no AC) and handy touches like a portable minibar and cooler box; double-family suites consist of two tents joined by an outdoor deck, and the property permits no children under 10. Activities center on wildlife—twice-daily game drives, easy access to famed Mara River crossings (including “crossing point zero”) during migration and intense predator action—balanced with restorative options such as in-tent massages, yoga, wine tastings and communal meals around a fire. The food is unfussy and seasonal, sourced from nearby farms supported by camp seed funding, with highlights including a spicy Swahili feast drawing on African, Indian and Arab influences. The all-Tanzanian team, many of whom have worked there since 2012, run a smooth, slightly reserved service in a very private setting. Sustainability is integral: solar power runs refrigeration, pumps and fans; a deep borehole supplies pH-balanced water served in recycled glass bottles; extensive zero-carbon/zero-waste measures are in place and guests pay a carbon-offset levy that supports Carbon Tanzania’s Yaeda Valley project.
