"Set on the corner of Hope Street and Rochambeau Avenue near Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, this Puerto Rican–inspired all-day café (opened in 2020 by Milena Pagán) evokes a Santurce coffee-shop vibe with ocean-blue walls, tin ceilings, tile floors, and abundant live greenery. Its mission is to fill a gap in a traditionally white area and provide a taste of the Caribbean in the city, and the menu emphasizes ultra-fresh, bright preparations—standouts include ceviche with pineapple, cucumber, and leche de tigre; tostones topped with duck confit; and roasted cauliflower with Romesco. Pastries are a particular draw: house-made quesitos with puff pastry filled with sweet cream cheese and guava or banana, a French-toast-style baked brioche served with berries and dulce de leche, empanadas in several sweet and savory varieties that often sell out, and petite cakes (the passion fruit raspberry cake and a raved-about raspberry tart among favorites). The café also serves mallorcas, coffee, toast with papaya-lime-ginger jam, gandule-based hummus with plantain chips, and seasonal paletas, and it cultivates a neighborhood community feel with backyard events, oyster happy hours, and Instagram flash sales—becoming a valued cultural and culinary gathering spot for Providence’s Latino and Puerto Rican communities." - ByRobin Catalano
