"Foxes, owls, rabbits, dogs, cats, and even penguins—Tokyo’s animal cafes offer the chance to get up close and personal with all kinds of creature company. Not all species fare well in cramped quarters, however, meaning the less reputable of these joints can be depressing affairs. Luckily, hedgehogs don’t need much room to roam. At ChikuChikuCAFE, the little guys seem perfectly content to snooze in their glass-encased pens. The clean, cheery place makes for a welcome respite from the mayhem of nearby Takeshita Street. This is something of a goofy, guilty pleasure. Nevertheless, younger children will get a kick of out the roly-poly critters. After a few hours of sightseeing, give the culture-fest a break and let your kids indulge in some animal therapy." - Diana Hubbell
