"You’d be forgiven for hesitating as you pull up to Falconara, off a main highway and not far from the industrial eyesore of Gela. Once you’re inside the gates, however, things look up considerably. The hotel’s backdrop is a medieval castle and a private beach with pristine coves—a rarity on Sicily’s overbuilt coastline. Of the 65 rooms, the 39 in the Club House are done in a spartan yet chic style, with four-poster beds and rattan chaise longues. Oversized furniture is scattered throughout, and there’s a lovely pool. The restaurant is both inexpensive and good, and staff are welcoming. This is a spot for beach lovers rather than those on an extensive sightseeing schedule."
