"Zoom out. What’s this place all about? An intimate space set behind Mariano Draghi's workshop in a traditional Areco home, this museum showcases his father's silversmith work. Juan José was one of Argentina's most notable craftsmen, and here, his family keep his spirit, work, and history alive. Ye shall know them by their permanent collection: How was it? This small private collection shows off silverware dating back to the 19th-century, as well as contemporary work by the Draghi family. The focus is on objects used in the countryside, from silver daggers carried by gauchos to spurs, belts, bridles, and mate gourds. Leather and textiles make an appearance, too. But also by their new shoes. How were the exhibits? After checking out the permanent exhibits of silver and leather in this calming and well-thought out space, pop into the overflowing workshop to catch the artisans at work. What did you make of the crowd? Visitors need to email ahead to book a time. But if you happen to be in the town, it's worth ringing the bell and seeing if anyone is home (just not during siesta time). Any guided tours worth trying? The guided visit costs 100 pesos, and is worth it to see these stunning objects, as well as the interior and architecture of a beautiful Areco home. Gift shop: obligatory, inspiring—or skip it? There are plenty of well-priced handmade silver trinkets to take home; a mate gourd is emblematic, though perhaps not the most practical souvenir." - Sorrel Moseley-Williams
