One Bunk Tijuana

"What will we notice off the bat?The micro-hotel is housed in a slate gray building on busy Avenida Revolución in the former Hotel Lafayette (the neon sign remains). In all, it's a cool, artsy oasis on an otherwise hectic street. One Bunk combines the ease and independence of Airbnb, where you'll book your stay, with a staffed front desk, daily complimentary housekeeping, and other hotel perks. What’s the crowd like? It's mainly stylish 20- and 30-something travelers who don't let Tijuana's seedy reputation keep them from exploring the vibrant and newly evolving city. They share a love of craft coffee and beer, travel, and clean design. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. There are nine rooms total, some with double beds, some with queens, and some with loft or bunk beds. Rooms are sparsely decorated with wood- or metal-frame beds, bare concrete walls, exposed pipes, and a shot of color via zarape fabric pillows. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?The beds are as comfy as they are stylish. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that worth a mention? The room comes with two free water bottles at the start of your stay (you'll have to pay for subsequent bottles though) and the audio systems are Tivoli. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down.Bathrooms are small—on par with what you'd find in a Manhattan apartment. But what they lack in size and amenities—no fluffy robes or bath slippers here—they make up for in style, with Technicolor-splashed walls and minimalist One Bunk–branded bath products. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word? It's free. Anything stand out about other services and features?Hotel lobbies aren't always a worthwhile hangout spot. Not so at One Bunk Tijuana, where "El Lobby" is decked out with contemporary art, a light fixture made of vintage tennis rackets, and midcentury-modern furniture. There's a one-chair barbershop on the ground floor, and a location of Object, an upscale decor and clothing boutique, on the second floor. There's also a rooftop bar that hosts yoga sessions. Anything you'd chang?Rooms are comfortable, but given the busy area, you're bound to hear some noise—something the hotel is up front about. Also, the hotel is not ADA accessible; you'll be climbing stairs to get to your room. Bottom line: Why should we choose One Bunk?Tijuana's food, art, and cultural scene is thriving—this is a place perfect those who want to experience it." - Archana Ram
