Hotel Yountville

"Why did this hotel catch your attention? What's the vibe? Hotel Yountville is a Napa Valley establishment. In an area of the region where Michelin stars flow freely and bucolic, luxe lodging is everywhere, Yountville stands out for its rustic charm, built from Napa river rocks, local timber, and copper accents, and dedication to wellness. (There's a truly impressive spa on-site.) What's the backstory? An independent property, Hotel Yountville feels more like your aunt's charming B&B. Tell us all about the accommodations. Any tips on what to book? Rooms resemble a country home with luxurious and modern touches. Expect exposed wooden beams, stone fireplaces, and four-poster beds in many rooms, all dressed in a neat, neutral color palette. In the bathroom, there are deep soaking tubs perfect for luxuriating after a long day of tasting Cabernet. Is there a charge for Wi-Fi? Wi-Fi is free. Drinking and dining—what are we looking at? The on-site restaurant, Heritage Oak, is among the best in Napa Valley—which is saying something. The kitchen serves a farm-to-table menu for three meals a day. On the go? They'll also pack a picnic lunch of tasty sandwiches to take with you during your explorations. And the service? Service is charming and helpful. What type of travelers will you find here? As you might expect, this is a largely "grown-up" resort. Expect to see baby boomers in golf shirts and sandals, and younger couples on honeymoons or weekend getaways from San Francisco. What about the neighborhood? Does the hotel fit in, make itself part of the scene? The hotel is within walking distance from other top spots in Yountville, including Thomas Keller's Ad Hoc, Bouchon Bistro, and the French Laundry. The hotel has complimentary bicycles, too. Is there anything you'd change? A $40 per night, per room, "destination fee" seems like a stingy money-grab when you're already dropping upwards of six Benjamins a day. Bottom line: Worth it? Why? Marrying the best of Tuscany, Provence, and Napa, Yountville is an ideal wine country getaway." - Laura Ratliff
