"Can you tell us a little about this place? Although it's a working train station, Atocha is known for much more than its resident mode of transit. In the spectacular atrium, the original part of the station, a botanical garden features more than 5,000 plants spanning 400 different species. Surrounding the gardens are dozens of shops and dining outlets, making this a hub of activity—even if you don't plan on actually leaving Madrid. Does it warrant a long visit? It's more of an add on. The gardens are worth a look if you're nearby; Atocha Station is at the end of Paseo del Prado, and Caixa Forum and the Prado are both pretty close. Why would you recommend a visit here, and who for? If you don't have time to stroll through Retiro Park , take a quick breather here. The station is easy to navigate, although you may have to dodge luggage-toting travelers.
