"Opening the door to this wood-paneled Phoenicia treehouse after a slow, somewhat treacherous reverse down the driveway made me audibly ooh and aah; the wraparound living-room windows immediately pulled me in, connecting the large open-plan living room and kitchen with an equally spacious back deck and offering a rare sense of space and proximity to nature for a Manhattanite. The well-decorated two-bedroom home fits up to four comfortably: one bedroom has a king bed, an en suite bathroom with a standalone tub, and a wall of windows overlooking the surrounding woods, making it worth a friendly fight; there’s a fully equipped kitchen and a washer and dryer in the second bathroom. I found the chaise tucked into the living-room corner perfect for working and reading while gazing at the tall trees and the slow-moving creek below (the cool, curved couch is fine for sitting but less comfortable), and note there’s no TV—bring a laptop or tablet if you want to watch shows. The back deck is filled with places to eat and lounge—there are roughly half a dozen seating options, from a hammock strung between two tall trees to cushy loungers, camp chairs in front of a second firepit, a table for grilling, and spots to make s’mores—and a few classic board games sit on a living-room shelf; the cabin would make a lovely spot for a reading retreat or a couple’s weekend. The listing showed a starting price of $531 on Airbnb." - Madison Flager
