Thompson Nashville

"How did it strike you on arrival?A far cry from the mid-level chains that once dominated Nashville, Thompson is chic in every way. What’s the crowd like?Trendsetters—the hotel feels more L.A. than it does Tennessee. Tell us about the rooms. The average room size is 331 square feet, a bit small, though each is outfitted with floor-to-ceiling windows, giving the illusion of more space. The design is thoughtful and contemporary, like pretty wooden headboards, striking patterned rugs, and plush robes and slippers. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?You'll want to steal the sheets off the bed. How about the little things, like minibar, or shower goodies. Any of that worth a mention? There’s an honor bar full of alcohol and snacks, but most notably, guests can purchase seven-inch vinyls from Third Man Records, Jack White’s Nashville-based label. How's the bathroom? The bathrooms will have you asking for a referral for the hotel's interior designer: Graphic floor tile, white tile walls, and a hand-selected sculpture are supremely chic. The suites each have a claw foot tub, strategically placed next to expansive windows. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word?Wi-Fi is free and fast. Room service: Worth it?The Thompson has a few different restaurants—from the seriously upscale Marsh House to the more casual Killebrew coffee shop—so you likely won't want to dine in your room. Staff: If you could award one a trophy, who gets it, and why?Since the hotel's opening, guests far and wide have praised the impeccably trained staff, from the valet team to the front desk squad to the concierge who texts prior to your arrival and asks if you need help setting up any reservations. There's no single staff member worthy of a trophy, because they're all top-notch. Anything else we didn't ask about? The Thompson has one of the best rooftop lounges in Nashville, the LA Jackson, which is frequented by locals, particularly stylish millennials who inhabit the Gulch’s neighboring high-rises. Warning, though: Get there early if you want a seat; this is one of the area's most happening late-night spots. It also gets very loud in colder months when it's too chilly to open the doors to the patio. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay?In a real Nashville move, the Thompson offers guitar lessons taught from the pros at neighboring Carter Vintage Guitars. Already know how to strike a chord? The hotel has guitars available for guest use. Bottom line: worth it?For those wanting the ultimate boutique hotel experience, the Thompson is it. And while it's not cheap, neither are the rest of Nashville's downtown hotels." - Kristin Luna
