"How did it strike you on arrival?There are only seven rooms within this low-slung gray structure, built into a hill on a quiet residential street. The dramatic slope of the lot is as striking as the property's Modernist design. Nice. What’s the crowd like?Nearly all couples, from empty-nesters to millennial newlyweds. They appreciate the design, but most of all, the quiet solitude that the hotel affords. The good stuff: Tell us about your room.There are no room keys or room numbers—there isn't even a lobby or a check-in desk. Instead, you'll create your own four-digit code upon booking to unlock the front door. Upon entering, you'll find an inviting multi-level courtyard; each of the five rooms looks out on to the courtyard with floor-to-ceiling windows. Art is a key component of the hotel's design: Each room has a whimsical painting of bunny rabbits and even the white ceiling fan has an architectural feel. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?Much has been said about the organic latex beds, which are extremely comfortable and topped with Sferra sheets. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase?There is no mini bar. But the plush white terrycloth robes would fit even a basketball player. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down.Glass doors on the free-standing showers make the bathrooms feel spacious. Malin + Goetz shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion come in full-size bottles. Makeup-removing facial wipes are available along with ear plugs, which you'd never need. The rooms are exceptionally quiet. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word?Complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. Room service: Worth it?There is no room service because the common room, which is open 24/7, has limitless complimentary bottled beer (local to Austin) and wine, along with organic yogurt, fresh juice, snacks, and fruit. Breakfast is also complimentary; the granola, bread, and farm-fresh eggs are brought in from a local bakery. Staff: If you could award one a trophy, who gets it, and why?This keyless, self-check-in property is designed so you could stay an entire week without ever laying eyes on the staff. You will, however, receive text messages from the managers, who are on-site even if you don't see them. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you.Families, take note: Kids under 15 are not allowed to stay here. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay?The central courtyard is the focal point of the property and, in a word, tranquil. Built into the natural landscape, it has several seating areas at various heights, a waterfall feature, and hammocks interestingly woven from the seat belts of Jaguar cars. Bottom line: worth it, and why?The hotel is only one block from South Congress' ultra-hip restaurants and bars, but that distance shields guests from the bustle and noise of the nightlife." - Allison Bagley
