"Why book? If you fancy boutiques over big brand hotels, this sexy stunner in Dallas’s Harwood District is an absolute must for its great pool, creative cuisine, and sophisticated weekend tea. Set the scene Step into this super sleek, modern build by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. A simple and unassuming check in gives way to the cozy lobby bar where you’re likely to find chic fashionista sipping martinis. Drop your bags in your unique (each one different) suite and then head up to the rooftop pool for a drink at Pomelo in your sassiest swimsuit. The sunsets and people watching at this hotel are both 10 out of 10. The backstory Hotel Swexan is the first hotel for the Harwood Hospitality group and is an obvious collaboration between the sophistication of a European hotel and the classic charms of Texas. While the group is typically known around town for its restaurants, this family-owned company has knocked it out of the park putting all the luxurious amenities of their own worldly travels into Texas-attainable amenities. Food and drink This hotel is dripping in dining options, and I would say that it’s the food and beverage program that makes this hotel the most exciting in town. From Stillwell’s that cooks Harwood’s own branded beef to Babou’s that is the chicest nightclub in town, it’s hard for someone checking in to not find a food option that they don’t vibe with. And while steak is nice and after dinner drinks are fun, it’s the afternoon tea service that gives me all the feels. Think cucumber and smoked salmon sandwiches, cheddar scallion and marigold scones, and prosciutto and fig crostini with lavender (served with bubbles and optional caviar, but of course). The neighborhood/area The Harwood District is a 19-acre neighborhood that has a collection of great restaurants and is located near both Uptown and Victory Park. Whether you want to walk on the Katy Trail, go to a Dallas Mavericks game, or visit the Dallas Arts District, you are a stone’s throw from it all. The service This hotel rolls out the red carpet for all their guests offering complimentary fitness classes, personal shopping, and a gem car for getting around the Harwood District in style. For families This is a hotel that’s ideal for a romantic weekend away or a girl’s trip. Kids are allowed, of course, but it wouldn’t be my pick for a family-focused hotel stay. Accessibility yes Anything left to mention? Don’t let the fact that this hotel has no spa trick you into thinking that the wellness options are lacking. In fact, this property has one of the most outstanding hotel gyms in town. With the latest equipment, wet and dry sauna, and a cold plunge post sweat, this is the type of facility that actually makes you want to work out." - Diana Oates
