OASIS Immersion — Museum Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"So, what’s this place about? There's a deep history of and passion for design and technology in Montreal , and this immersive exhibit held at the Palais des Congres is the largest of its kind in Canada. It's a partnership between Ecorecreo (a Montreal-based tourism company) and the municipal and provincial governments, and makes makes a compelling case for all visitors to pencil in some time at the convention center. It's open to the public with timed, ticketed admissions. How’s the space? OASIS uses 105 lasers and 119 surround-sound speakers to project immersive projections on the walls and floors, turning over 21,000 square feet of convention centre space into a technicolor dreamscape. The current show, RECHARGER/Unwind, is a celebration of various artists from Montreal and abroad, and is spread out over three distinct rooms. Because you need to book tickets in advance, the exhibit never gets too crowded, so you'll be able to keep your distance from others and experience the magic without feeling cramped. The art’s the main thing, of course. How is it? The show itself is a stunning display of natural landscapes, videos of artists performing and creating, poetry that floats across the screen, and psychedelic designs that transport the audience. Expect to hear lots of "oohs" and "ahs." Did you meet anyone on staff? Did they make an impression? There are limited staff at the transition points between rooms, and they are there to help guide visitors who might have a hard time seeing in the dark or need to exit for a bathroom break. At the end of the day, what—or who—is this place best for? Tech nerds will be totally in awe of the production quality, and the substance of the show itself appeals to adults and children alike. The convention center sits on the fringes of Old Montreal, so it's a great 90-minute (total) diversion before or after any excursions or dinner plans in that neighborhood." - Todd Plummer
