The Sanctuary Beach Resort

"What's arrival like here? This classic, though renovated, resort sits atop the windswept sand dunes of Monterey Bay’s coastline, and it neighbor is the National Marine Sanctuary. It feels timeless, and a million miles away, though it's a quick drive to downtown Monterey. What’s the crowd like?Expect families with packs of little kids, but also couple—it can as intimate and romantic as you please. The good stuff: Tell us about the rooms. The beach bungalows offer panoramic views of the Pacific and salty ocean air drifting right into your room. You can’t get any closer to sleeping on the beach than this. Request one of the few second-story rooms with a terrace, for a lighthouse-like point of view of the coastline. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?Harbor Linen’s soft Monocle Collection tops the beds, making it even easier to fall asleep to the sounds of the waves crashing outside the window. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase? If we could steal the view, we would. Instead, Instagramming it will just have to do. Watching the sunset, and keeping an eye out for migrating whales, while inside next to a fireplace is definitely something to write home about. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down. The bathrooms are basic, but perks like L'Occitane products and plush Harbor Linen bathrobes give them a boost. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word?Wi-Fi is complimentary for guests, and decent throughout the resort. What should we look forward to as far as food goes?Do not miss the morning breakfast basket, packed with homemade quiche, cereal, fresh juice, pastries, and coffee (request mimosas for an additional price). The best way to enjoy it? In bed—or on the beach. Staff: If you could award one a trophy, who gets it, and why?The golf cart valet for tirelessly shuttling guests around the resort. Anything stand out about other services and features? The beach is the centerpiece of the resort. Go at sunset, and relax by the fire pits. The restaurant, Salt Wood Kitchen and Oysterette, is one of the best in all of Monterey. What was most memorable about your stay?Watching the sunrise and sunset at the beach—without crowds! Bottom line: Why are we choosing Sanctuary Beach?Because the reasonably priced rooms will score you million-dollar views." - Jenna Scatena
