"I learned that the Prospect Street outpost of Better Buzz Coffee Roasters in downtown La Jolla — the company's tenth location — opens Saturday, August 31 and will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. The industrious company, which runs a roastery in Vista, is known for its eminently photographable cafes and this outpost is no exception: a pink-and-teal color scheme, folding glass doors that open onto a coffee bar running the width of the space, and two outdoor patios that provide most of the seating. Better Buzz's popular specialty beverages include Mexican mochas, mint-infused iced coffee, and a golden latte made with tumeric, warm spices, and honey, though it also offers a “purist bar” for classic coffee drinks and pour-overs and plans to roll out more single-origin options. The all-day menu features breakfast snacks, toasts, sandwiches, and award-winning soft-serve ice cream, plus a new grains-and-greens bowl made with organic produce and topped with vegan green goddess dressing; a weekend-only shareable brioche French toast flavored with almond butter, banana, and bacon will also be available. The brand also has a drive-thru cafe scheduled to open in Escondido by the end of the year and, according to Capital Real Estate Ventures’ Justin Earley, is pursuing “aggressive expansion plans” — especially for drive-thru locations." - Candice Woo
